I have been a customer at Beef Mart for years. When my son was serving in Iraq I used to make beef jerky and send it to him. My grandson recently left for college and he loves jerky so I thought I'd start making it again. Last week when I went in to Beef Mart and wasn't sure what cut of meat to get but the woman who helped me was very nice and one of the butchers suggested what cut of meat to buy and gladly cut it for me. I was charged $8.99/pound. Today I went in asking for the same thing. The woman at the counter (not the same one as last week) acted like I was a pain. The man who cut the meat was very rude and was obviously put out that I was asking for such a service. (The same thing that I got last week.) Today they charged me $10.99/pound for the exact same product and the same service that I paid $8.99/pound for last week. If you're going to run a business, be friendly and consistent. Consistency was lacking in the attitude of those who helped me and the price that I paid. Is $2.00/pound going to change my life style....no. However, I sure don't need to go spend money at an establishment where I am made to feel like I'm a bother. read more

Everything we've ever gotten from Beef Mary has been excellent. We love picking up fresh steaks to grill, but their frozen meals are fantastic too. They have a great steak seasoning too, and they work very quick and efficient so no matter how crowded it won't take very long. read more

I stopped in today because someone told me they sharpen knives. Sure do! I got 3 knives sharpened for $10. I was super pleased. Staff was great! I walked around looking at all the items they sell. The meat looks so fresh. My freezer is fully loaded, but I'll be back soon to try some beef. Oh by the way, they sell big beef marrow bones. Great for making your own beef broth. read more

Having just moved to Valparaiso, I was looking for a decent meat market. We'd been to Rob's in Dyer, and it was excellent, but it's an hour drive to get there. I found Beef Mart to have very good quality products, good grades of meat, and the grades posted. This isn't always the case. The variety was very good, not exceptional, but for a smaller town I couldn't ask for more. I also found the prices to be very fair, especially the way meat prices are. They also had a lot of frozen product, which I'm not always a fan of. I decided to try the sausage gravy for biscuits, and it was amazing!! They also have Boar's Head products, which are hard to find here, so I was very happy with that as well. The service as also very good. The people behind the counter are very nice, very helpful, and also very knowledgeable. I had some really good rib eyes, pork chops nd some other things from there and they all cooked up beautifully. read more

Picked up an 11lb rib roast for Xmas dinner. Despite being slammed with ppl, the staff were friendly & patient with everyone. The roast was one of the best I've ever prepared for a meal. It wasn't too fatty or too lean. Just perfect! I'll definitely be back again. Salut! read more

Some good cuts of meat & lots of choices here. I just don't like the prices. Much higher than we are use to paying. I agree with another reviewer on a different site. The same thing can be gotten at Lowery's over the boarder for much cheaper. The staff here is super friendly. There are many clerks on staff, so they move their customers through pretty quick. read more

Prices flying up more than housing prices in area. I avoid most meat, so bought dog bone there. Prices have been raised $1 per bag three times during the last year and a few months. One time, they actually crossed out the old price and rewrote the price hike in marker. Class act. Still great people, but we started doing WalMart steaks, and the price break is so great and the quality so minor that we're just opting for the big chain with better prices. The best meat. All from a local source. The chicken is Amish and local. They have small produce for odds and ends you need to grill with. They have a nice selection of gourmet condiments and they have a huge selection of frozen packaged stuff. read more

The people that work the Deli counter are so rude. The only reason we go there is for the Boars Head. Each time we walk out we swear that we won't return. We rather drive 30 to 40 minutes to get our boars head lunch meat. The owners should observe how the deli workers treat thier customers. Also if you hate your job this much, maybe you you find another job. read more

My grandfather was a butcher and my father worked in his grocery store so I know a thing or two about good meat, but I'm no expert. However I don't think it would take an expert to know that this place sells some good meat. My wife and I are huge fans of steak and now when we want to go to a good steak house we just go to beef mart instead and let our grill do the work. They also have amazing baked potato salad, get it every time I go. They also have a catering service I believe and there is a frozen selection if you want to pick something up. The stuffed peppers were really good. I'm telling you, go here. You won't be disappointed. read more

The only place you should be buying your meats in Valparaiso or NWI. The best top-notch service and the best meat in the area. Other reviewers commented on their high quality bratwursts and Italian sausage and they are definitely correct. I do not purchase my meats anywhere else but here. My highest reccomendations are their baby back ribs, Porterhouse steaks, sausages, and even ground round hamburger. Locally owned business and the owner is always present and ensures everything is running smoothly. You'll always find a crowded parking lot prior to a holiday or on Saturdays but they do a great job with the wait times. I've only bought sausage here so maybe I'm not as well versed as others. That being said, I am absolutely floored with what they sell here. All of the sausages are well seasoned and taste fresh. The Bacon jalapeño cheddar brat literally has chunks of bacon in it. Delicious. There's also a great selection if wine, frozen meats and even some already cooked meats for a quick dinner. My goodness, what a fun little store. I'll admit I didn't think much of this place having driven by it numerous times since we've lived in the area. Viewed from the outside you'll understand how I could have so easily written it off. But, upon finally giving it a chance, my expectations were quickly blown away. As far as butcher shops go, Beef Mart is excellent. Every type of meat and cut I've purchased here has been of the highest quality, and their selection is good. They keep me coming back for their bratwurst - the best you can buy in the area. And, the ground beef is wonderful and cheaper per pound than you'll find at Strack. Steaks, stew meat, special cuts - it's all the tops. If it were just about the meats, this place would still be amazing. But, Beef Mart is more than just a butcher. They have a small but delightful array of specialty food items - prepared sides, local products, beer & wine, and an entire BBQ sauce section. Their homemade frozen entrees are especially worth mentioning if you need to pick up a quick evening meal on your way home. Oh my god, Beef Mart, where have you been all my life?!? Meats, sides, rubs, frozen prepared meals, wine, and even fresh produce, Beef Mart has it all. Went there on a Saturday afternoon to grab a few steaks for the grill and left with our entire meal and then some. I love the wine selection and choice of sides. Customer service was excellent. I bought 2 porterhouse steaks, "the biggest I could find" for my husband's Birthday. I grilled them a touch longer than I would have liked but they were still the most tender, flavorful steaks I have had in quite awhile. I went to the Valpo Beef Mart the Friday before Christmas. When I pulled into the parking lot I passed the Tesla and Toyotas to find a space in the back row by the last minuscule pile of snow. When I walked in, I took my place in line to run the gauntlet. During that run I added to my menu of twice bakes and rib eyes with rolls, mushrooms, and pasta salad. To my horror, I found no twice bakes! Not to worry, the guy behind the counter would get me some, and he did. Even with gas over $4.00 gallon - we took a 1 1/2 hour trip to get our holiday smoked ham, polish sausage (can you spell G A R L I C!) and the hot and sweet Italian sausages.
