We are a retired couple who like to dine out on occasion. We went there on a Friday night, we had reservations and were seated promptly we were dining with another couple also. Our server appeared promptly introduced herself (Katie) and asked about drinks or wine, we all ordered libations while we perused the menu. She returned shortly with drinks ( which were well made)and we ordered the octopi as the other couple didn't want an app. Katie then told us about the nightly specials, while she went to place our app order we had a chance to go over the menu and chat. Our app arrived and was presented and prepared great as the octopi was NOT rubbery and quite tasty. We all placed our orders and had a few minutes to savor our drinks and app. Dinners arrived and looked great, 2 of us ordered the twin filets( medium rare) 1 of us had the scallops and 1 had the prime special of the night(medium rare). It was a rough night for the restaurant. Our server said it was training night, but if that's the case, it seemed everyone was training simultaneously and it resulted in several tables sending food back to the kitchen, not just ours. Complimentary bread- Good! Dark rye roll, sesame roll, Parmesan crackers, half melted butter half in package. It's nice to have the variety. The Parmesan cracker was the best, and while I like soft or whipped butter, having half melted butter oozing into a plastic cup with half of it still in foil was a bit awkward. Field greens salad- Basic, and a large portion. Balsamic dressing was tossed in and a few sliced tomatoes, portion is enough for sharing if it's not your entree. French Onion soup- OK. There's a flavor we couldn't quite identify that landed somewhere between the mold of blue cheese and the parsley flakes that were on the top. It does seem to be a true onion soup in a vegetable stock rather than a chicken stock or beef stock soup... but there's an odd flavor that makes me go hmmmm. Maybe it's because of the type of onion used, or that the onions were more fresh and not caramelized? Single Filet Medallions- Good when cooked as requested. This was where our order went a bit off the rails. There are a lot of options for "dressing" your steak aside from just how you'd like it cooked... blue cheese, bacon wrapped, onions, mushrooms... and then there's the choice of sides. This seems like a good thing at first, but this is where the order went wrong. The items (blue cheese & bacon) that were supposed to go on one steak at well done temp, were separated and put on different steaks of different temps- and unfortunately the blue cheese went on the medium steak for the person who couldn't have blue cheese. To T-Bones credit- they did redo the steaks and not just scrape and overcook- but of course that doubled our wait time on dinner, and the when the replacement steaks arrived, they still weren't exactly right- but we ate them anyway. To compensate for the troubles- we were offered a choice of desserts for the issues and extra wait time. We ordered the Apple Galette to go, which took about 15min to bake (not a fast option- but it was a tasty option- but not piled high with apples as is traditional- apples were more of a topping over a pastry covered in a custard) and arrived to stay instead of to go. The plating error was immediately remedied- but we did lose out on the Carmel sauce that was left on the plate. Then when our bill arrived, we had been charged for 4 steaks instead of 2 and needed to have that corrected as well. So- pretty much everything that arrived after the appetizers needed to be sent back or redone in some way- which was frustrating for everyone and definitely doubled the service time on everything. The best thing I can say is that everything arrived hot that needed to be hot, and cold that needed to be cold (except the butter). read more

T-Bones has fantastic food and service. On one visit, we had a T-bone and a filet mignon. Both were outstanding. Do NOT deny yourself the custard potatoes. Yum!!! Drinks and desserts were terrific. okay, my steak was probably the cheapest cut of meat but most importantly it was so salty I simply couldn't eat it. I was very surprised that the waitress (very nice) offered me a dessert (which I declined) and I still paid for my completely uneaten meal. NOT COOL. This place is in a great location, right on the lake. There is a wonderful deck but unfortunately it was too hot that day for us to enjoy it. Not their fault. The service was fine. Our waitress was pleasant and accommodating. The food however was mediocre. We had the grilled walleye and being in the Great Lakes region, we expected better. The fish was a bit undercooked and the only thing they could offer to spice it a little was Tabasco. It was quite bland. Also, the side of mushrooms felt more microwaved than sautéed. Loved this place! We stopped here for an early dinner and everything was great from the welcoming hostess, friendly and attentive server, and helpful busser. We started with wedge salads and I had the pasta with beef tips and my husband had the filets wrapped in bacon. Awesome food. Everything was cooked to perfection. We also had a few cocktails that were delicious. This was my first time in LaPorte, but it will not be my last. Now I want to go back again, stay in the area, and eat dinner at this restaurant again. There are some reviews I don't want to write. The selfish part of me says, "OMG! What a well kept secret for fine dining! You don't want everyone to know! No reviews!" For today, my conscience wins. The world needs to know about this fine dining gem on the lake in LaPorte, Indiana. My wife and I were in town for the weekend to see Notre Dame play in nearby South Bend. We had just driven from Iowa through Chicago to LaPorte for the night. City traffic had us drained. We hoped to be spoiled by good service and food. What we received was far beyond our expectation. The French Onion soup is extraordinary. My wife's NY Strip and my Ribeye were impeccable cuts cooked perfectly as ordered. The garlic mashed potatoes, and sauteed onions were spectacular. To top all this excellence, the defining moment, was the sauteed mushrooms, which were sauteed not cooked, still with a hint of freshness, almost crisp, seasoned with a combination of butter oil and herbs which must surely be a well kept secret. And, yes, we were spoiled by amazing service. Attentive, always politely so, our server took care of us with the greatest of ease. We are grateful beyonds words. Only my sister does that. Escargot.. you like? Well I sure do. Very tender. That bespeaks of quality. Not the cheap chewy stuff here. The butter baste could use some revisiting. But I'm a garlic fiend. Maybe the folks round here prefer a bit more reverence. Now the piece d' la resistance. Grilled asparagus salad. I almost went with a boring old caesar salad. So glad I didn't. The sprouts were tender and not overdone. A few mandarins oranges to compliment the vinegarette, all in all a very happy presentation and light grazing choice. Ambiance is very inviting. Soft music in the main dining room. Waitress took about 5 minutes acknowledge me. It took another waitress to let her know I was waiting. This was not a terrible inconvenience as I had not been waiting very long. The waitress who brought the bread was not very inviting and up into this point I have not felt vet valued as a customer. For dinner Side Caesar Salad. This option does not come with the steak, it's an additional charge. 12 oz filet with whiskey peppercorn sauce, medium well and fries as the potato side. I also had a side of grilled shrimp. The steak itself came medium as ordered but lacked substantial flavor. The whiskey peppercorn sauce did not help the flavor. The grilled shrimp was very tasty but the fries were very burnt. Midway through the meal found a long straight hair. I have short course hair. The waitress was busy with another party and it took 20 minutes for her to come back and ask how I was doing. There were however 5-6 waitresses standing around that did not as why I had been sitting in front of my food so long. When the waitress returned, I showed her the hair and she said "gross". She offered to have them remake it but at this point I was ready to go home. I expected the hostess,owner, manager to come out and apologize, anything. Instead nothing. This is probably the most scenic spot in the area with pretty good food. Located inside the Blue Heron hotel, T-Bones restaurant has an indoor and outdoor seating and a separate bar. They serve full menu, mixed drinks, wine and beer on tap and in bottles. My absolutely favorite were the appetizers: stuffed mushrooms and snails (escargot). When it comes to the entrees, it was a bit short of satisfaction. For example, the shrimp scampi actually has no pasta, which could be good, except it sort of drowns in butter and garlic and feels too heavy on the stomach. The t- bone steak is big but fatty and the filet minion steak has too much bone in it to be worth $35. However, the atmosphere of the restaurant is extremely pleasant, and the view of the sunset is simply stunning! The Amytini (raspberry martinis) were excellent as well. This is definitely a MUST in La Porte. The atmosphere is very old/romantic feeling. The service is wonderful - everyone has a genuine smile on their face and moves with purpose and a sense of calm. Bread bowl included a rye roll, plain roll, and seasoned crackers (YUM) Firecracker shrimp - just a hint of crunch on the outside and drenched in an amazing creamy spicy sauce that I couldn't get enough of Stuffed mushrooms - baby portabella mushrooms with a crab stuffing topped with cheese and baked Ahi tuna app (special) - seared tuna, diced and drenched in an oriental sauce; side of tempura fried seaweed for crackers - this was out of this world and it should be a staple on the menu Penne pasta with salmon - served with a creamy pesto sauce, mushrooms, and spinach. The salmon was woodfired and perfect. I loved this dish Spinach salad with strawberries and candied walnuts topped with a poppyseed dressing (also a special) this could have been dessert because the strawberries were so delicious and sweet. Carrot cake - this slice had to be a pound on it's own. So moist; big chunks of raisins, carrots, and walnuts and a perfect cream cheese frosting made this dessert a total winner. For all of this plus 4 alcoholic beverages our total was $100. I'd say that is a total win. I will definitely go back to try many more of their menu items and go during the day for the awesome view of the lake! read more

Read all the good reviews on Yelp, decided to give it a try. The view from the deck was nice, I should've brought my fishing pole. I had Filet Medallions which had good flavor but too chewy and they were out of the Garlic Mashed Potatoes so I had to get rice that I didn't even eat. My date had Strip steak which he really enjoyed. No Red Bull to pair with my vodka. Overall a steak on the grill at home is a lot cheaper and tastes better. read more

We were driving around for a place to eat, and after reading reviews online d coded to give this restaurant a try. The restaurant is nicely located by he lake. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice. The waitress provided great information about the menu and specials, and was very courteous and professional. She came by a few times to refill our drinks and made sure we didn't need a thing. We had the crab roll, mozzarella sticks, side salads and the soup of the day for appetizers. We were pleasantly surprised by how good they were, and looked forward our main courses. That is where the disappointment came. The Chicken Romano was just horrible. The chicken breast was not seasoned, and it was then overpowered by over cooked peppers, onions and mushrooms. The tomato sauce had way too much oregano. The cheese they melted on top was burnt. I scrapped it off, added salt, and peeled the Italian ham to save it. The green beans accompanying were overcooked. My wife had the fried fish and said it was good. My daughter had the fettuccine alfredo and the pasta was overcooked, and the sauce was over reduced. So much potential, but the back of the house was unable to deliver. read more

As we approached we weren't sure we had the right place. The parking lot and entry were less than we expected. Thankfully we called ahead for reservations as the dining room is small. There is out door seating on a deck over looking parked pontoons, not much of a view of pine lake. It was difficult to have a conversation as the acoustics of the space very reverberant. We were traveling through the area on I-80 and wanted a nice place to eat. This was perfect. Very friendly staff, cozy, well appointed dining room with handsome decor and lake views. Extensive menu with many non meat choices. I had the penne and salmon and it came out piping hot. The baked French onion soup could be a meal in itself. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
