The two of us ordered breakfast. This placed is WAY overpriced for what you get!! I ordered "CRISPY" bacon with my waffle. What I got was half-cooked bacon that was rolled up on a plate dripping with grease. The waiter offered to send it back and make it crispier. I got it back, but it looked EXACTLY the same way I sent it back! I would NOT recommend this restaurant unless you're a millionaire. We could have gone to McDonald's and got way more food for $40.00. While our hostess was friendly and professional, our waitress was completely incompetent and strange. After bringing our lunch entrees, she returned with several little jam holders in her hands and told us to reach over and hand her the breakfast jelly holder on our table as well as the flavored creamers. She then proceeded to Scoop them up with the containers she already held and spilled little jelly containers on us and our table. She didn't seem to grasp: 1. Leave the diners alone when they started eating. 2. Waitress Cannot carry lots of little containers with only 2 hands. Food was average and portions large. Round the Clock is a nice place to stop in for a quick meal. Their prices are reasonable and their food is good for the price. I had an omelet prepared with egg whites. It was a good size omelet with plenty of potatoes and two pieces of toast. I was surprised to see that even with the extra cost of egg whites, my meal was still only a bit more than $6. Their breakfasts all look good as well as their sandwiches and soups. I wouldn't recommend the roast pork with the sage dressing, but their desserts also look great. Overall, a nice place for an everyday bite. P.S. It's fixed up like a train station inside which is pretty cool. Smaller parties can even eat inside a train car. read more

Food is really great and everything but unfortunately whenever I am asked to sit in their "party room" area I suppose it's called, their service goes downhill fast almost like an afterthought that someone is seated in their section. I'm Always asked if everything is alright and it usually is but my visit today was not. We've seen our server only 3 times which each time felt like an inconvenience. Another table in the same room we were seated I assumed were at the same fate with service as we were. I did not like this place at all!! The employees were nice but the place was dirty! They ran out of the soup of the day and tomatoes for my salad which she didn't mention until she was bringing our food out! I had a skewed idea of what to expect my first time in Laporte Indiana, but dessert and an appetizer from Round The Clock definitely made the experience defineable. I'm not from this state but am visiting the area with my boyfriend who is from Michigan City. His family did not have the most outstanding critiques of Laporte itself, and I wasn't too terribly inspired by it just from driving through. However, two things will always stand out to me now: Saganaki and Cheesecake from Round the Clock. Now, I will admit that I am bias bc I love cheese and the idea of pouring brandy on it and setting it on fire just makes my mouth water like it never has before. So OF COURSE I fell in love with the cheesey creamy goodness of my appetizer. Served with bread and lemon to squeeze on top...there was a perfect balance of citrus, carb, and cheese. As for my dessert, the cheesecake was one of the best if not THE BEST, I have ever tried....and I've had a lot of cheesecakes in my 30 years. It had this soft light fluffy ricotta texture to it which was a pleasant surprise that differed from that more firm texture that is commonly found in less homemade versions of cheesecake. I will say for those that love graham cracker, you might be disappointed bc this cheesecake lacked a strong presence of that crust, but I was perfectly content bc I'm not a big graham fan and I wouldn't have wanted a thick crust to overpower the perfect sweetness and fluffiness of the cake itself. My boyfriend did get some carrot cake as well to go along with the cheesecake (they both looked so good in the desert display up front; he couldn't resist). It could have been made to be slightly more moist but was still good especially bc of the thick and sweet frosting with the nut shavings on top. My only critical feedback would be that the menu was a bit large. So many options which honestly made it difficult to even decide if we wanted a main course. Had my boyfriend and I been hungrier, I'm sure we would have gone that route. But the appetizer was plenty filling along with the dessert. I'll also add that although there was a large menu, I thought there would be more variety in the vegetarian options. Yes, the lemon rice soup and navy bean soup and the salads did sound delicious, but I was hoping to see maybe a veggie burger or falafel on there. But maybe something for them to consider in the future, as I can tell they like to have a big menu :) Overall, I say well done to Round the Clock. The best restaurant in LaPorte, Indiana! Actually, it's the only restaurant we ate in as we passed through the area, but the food was great and the service was friendly. There's a huge display case of cakes and pastries that all looked delicious if we hadn't been so stuffed from our meal. The last itme I was here was several years ago. It was about time for a return visit and I found the place competely remodeled. It was a pleasant suprise as it now has much more of a personality. We went here for breakfast the day after Christmas because the roads were not driveable out of town, so we had some time to kill and I am glad that we killed it here. We came here on a Saturday for a late morning breakfast. I absolutely adored the setup of this place. It was one building, but on the inside, it was made up of partitions setting the whole place up to look like separate rail cars. And yes, there was a smoking section. And that one in particular was set up to look like a subway car, with sliding doors and everything (That had to be a pain in the ass for the waitstaff, though.) The breakfast menu was gigantic, to say the least. I didn't know where to start! Did I want biscuits and gravy, crepes with strawberries, or potato pancakes? Well, I decided, since I had my fill of sausage gravy the day before, to have the strawberry crepes with a side of potato pancakes with applesauce. I was glad I didn't get a full order of potato pancakes. They just were not that good. Maybe I was spoiled all my life by my Mom's homemade ones, but these were sad in comparison. They were square in shape, and almost looked to be deep-fried. But whereas I was let down with the potato pancakes (but the homemade applesauce was delicious) the strawberry crepes were fantastic. First off, they used real strawberries, so there was no ten tons of sugary syrup covering my plate, and the crepe itself was perfect! A good spot for breakfast. But just look out when in the bathroom. It's clean, it works, but never mind the little old lady handing out religious tracts. It's kind of creepy. read more
