They've taken clear shortcuts: not caramelizing the onions enough, using croutons instead of French bread, and sticking a slice of cheese on top and microwaving instead of baking the dish in the over. There is an artificial sweetness that has been added rather than coming naturally from the caramelized onions. So I would not recommend ordering the French onion soup.
