Absolutely great food! Don't let the size or appearance of this restaurant fool you. The fried shrimp poor boy, boiled shrimp and boiled crawfish are great! The best live crawfish I've seen in years. I needed 3 sacks of crawfish and needed to travel 11 hours with them. Mr. Keith was awesome, he helped me with every detail to keep them alive for the trip. Out of 3 sacks their were only about a dz. dead crawfish. They were big and full of fat. He really takes care of his product. Can't wait to go back and try some of his other items. Oh my! The desk clerk where we are staying tried to send us to another eating establishment i.e. chain. SOOO glad we went with our adventuresome spirit. We had a lb of boiled shrimp and a 16 oz gumbo but had to go back in for a second gumbo; it was THAT good. This is a seafood shop to pick up and take home as most people seemed to be doing. They had a few tables inside but we chose to sit on the patio. That was our only mistake of the night. The flies really were annoying. Wish we were staying and not just passing through. This place was very disappointing. I had red beans and rice. The beans were so over cooked I was unable to actually identify any beans. It was just thick red sauce with rice. My husband had fried catfish. It looked great but was mostly breading. Nothing was seasoned. The place was also filthy. The bathroom is so nasty you can't even turn the lights on without getting your hands dirty and there was about a half inch of water across the floor. Don't even want to know the details of that. As with all other yelpers I was also skeptical of the outside. But I trusted the reviews glad I did. Cons: I will say first of all do NOT order corn dogs. I know, I know, not a place to order corn dogs but I had two kids with me and that's what they wanted so I agreed. Horrid little things, the corn dogs not thThey were almost black. Neither child could even get a bite they were so hard. I tried to cut them up and the meat inside was greenish. Ew. We tossed those and the kids ate fries Pros: Everything else. Hubby and I both had the Shrimp platter. It was beautiful and lots of food. We seriously could have split one plate and we are big eaters. The shrimp were hot, fat and salty. Perfect. Nice light batter. The fries were fries. But good and fresh. Cole slaw was good with a bit of tangy. Potato salad was good but hubby was too excited about the shrimp. The buttered rolls were surprisingly yummy. I could have eaten a few of those but I had to share with my kids as they lunch was already in the trash. We got a large gumbo on advice of fellow Yelpers to take home and eat tomorrow. I was say that I am particularly picky about my gumbo. I had some once as a child that I have never been able to duplicate or find again. It seems everywhere I go they are brown flavored water. This however was something special. It had the flavor and texture I have been searching for. It is thick but not overly so. Full of sausage, shrimp and I think chicken. I decided to taste it even though I was already stuffed. It was so amazing. I saw what I thought was a crab claw and sure enough I pulled out a half a crab. Oh how awesome. I sat and picked that thing apart. Nice surprise. I made hubby go back in and get another 32 oz container. I would have purchased a whole stock pot of it had hubby not given me the eye. Hubby also got a meat pie and he really liked it. So all of that to say DON'T get the corn dogs, get shrimp and gumbo. Gets lots of gumbo. read more

I-31-15 I had the pleasure of receiving some bad catfish. I cooked two pieces and ate them and 20 minutes later I became violently sick, My wife called to let Keith's know and the manager/owner told her to return the uncooked fish that was left. When my wife returned the uncooked fish, she waited in the check out line for customers to leave as to not make a scene. She handed him the remaining fish, still in the ziplock back it came in and the manager proceeded to put the remaining fish on the scale to weigh it. She asked him what he was doing and he said he was only going to credit the amount she returned and he needed the credit card used to buy it. She told him that she did not have her husband's card with her and that I was home laying down. My wife said don't worry about the refund, just give me my receipt and get rid of the bad fish. The manager/owner, proceeded to call her a liar because she originally told him that all the fish had been cooked, however, at the time, my wife didn't know that I had only cooked a couple of pieces and the rest was in the refrigerator. The manager/owner proceeded to call my wife a God Damned liar and that his fish was fine. She asked him to smell the fish in the bag and he refused. He said he will not smell it and I was a God Damned liar. My wife said look, I'm not a liar and your fish is bad and needs to be removed from the counter for sale. She took her receipt and as she was leaving the store, the manager/owner proceeded to tell the remaining customers in the store that she was a liar, she was a God Damned liar. My wife would not have driven all the way from Pearl River back to Slidell to return 2-3 pieces of fish had she not been concerned for whoever else they might be selling it to. I really hope the $13 was worth the experience he sold me and I truly hope no one else purchased the fish and became ill. This was the last time I will ever go to this place and I will make sure I let everyone know about what happened. I also plan on letting the department of health over food services for Slidell know about this experience. read more

We stopped at Keith's on the way back to SC based on the reviews here. We shared a foot long soft shell crab po' boy and it was simply amazing. Very fresh tasting and it was fried perfectly with a light batter. The bread complimented the crab and the taste and texture was the best po' boy I've ever had. We'll definitely be back. read more

HUGE PORTIONS. A dive but we were here for food and weren't buying the place. You can pick up prepared food or purchase fresh by the #. Couldn't finish the $10 15 jumbo shrimp with Cajun fries, coleslaw (or potato or green salad). Hubby had $10 12" long fresh catfish Po'boy. We stopped by here after a swamp tour with Cajun Encounters and were beyond impressed with the quality and taste of the food. We had po boys - the roast beef and gravy and the fried shrimp and were not disappointed. You cant beat the price either. Our whole bill including drinks was less than the price of one po boy in the French Quarter. The place is very much a dive but dont let that scare you off! read more

The young girl (the daughter) who works the register at times is very RUDE and rushes everyone with their order. The po boys are NOT on real French bread. They make them on soft hoagie bread instead of the crispy bread New Orleans po boys are known for. But the parents are always nice. Food isn't that bad. Not the best but not bad at all. I drove over to Slidell from MS to get some fabric. I had a lot to do that day so I woke up and went early, skipping breakfast. I was starving. I'm new to the coast so I'm always on the hunt for new (to me) local places to eat. I went to Yelp and searched "seafood near me" and Keith's was the first one on the list. I pulled up, thrilled to see a little shack-style joint. My mom is from MS, and she told me the less fancy the place, the better the food, because that's all they need to draw a crowd. She has consistently been proven right. Everything was fresh and made more or less right in front of me (you can see the kitchen from the line). I got a shrimp Po Boy and a smoked sausage one for my boyfriend. They went right back and breaded the shrimp and fried it right there. The sandwiches were huge and dressed just right and even the veggies were good. The lettuce was crisp and the tomato was nice and red. I drove the 50 minutes home and they were STILL steaming hot and not at all soggy. I ate half as soon as I walked in the door and the other half for dinner. I probably won't drive there just for that (but then again I just might) but I will definitely make sure I go shopping hungry and stop anytime I'm in town. Delicious! read more
