A+ service and I would definitely use Keep Cool NYC again. Yes you have to provide a lot of information up front, to get a quote, but I had a great experience with Keep Cool NYC. They were familiar with the "new technology" Midea U-shaped A/C I had bought, and were already familiar with my building's requirements. The technician came later than the 3-hour arrival window we had agreed, but he called me first to ensure the timing would still work. Getting an AC installed in the midst of June when it's starting to get hot is a stressful feat and Keep Cool NYC really made it seamless for me. I called Keep Cool NYC after desperate needs for an AC to be installed ASAP. It was super hot in NYC and I had no luck with the technician from another AC installation company showing up. I was so thankful that the owner of Keep Cool responded to me so quickly. I was able to schedule a same day appointment. After a call with Keep Cool, I was told to email them pictures of the AC unit and my window. They responded to my email quickly and confirmed the appointment time. The technician showed up within the time range scheduled. He was super efficient, professional and got the AC up and running in less than 15 minutes. The payment process was also super easy as well. They accept Venmo which makes the process so quick and painless. The technician also cleaned up the AC box after he was done with the installation. I was very impressed by his professionalism. Great service. I contacted Keep Cool NYC via Yelp messaging on a Sunday and David the owner was very responsive in scheduling an installation for Monday (as I was not available for Sunday). Another David (not the owner) showed up on time, one man show, had his tools, lifted and installed a 12K BTU air conditioner all under 10 minutes. Since my building requires a contractor to install the unit, these guys are the way to go. $80 beats the prices of a lot of other guys and these guys are insured too. My entire interaction with Dave was professional and prompt. I requested a quote with several follow up questions and Dave was quick and polite each time. I don't understand all the 5-star reviews saying fast response. I think Dave Messina is the owner and I have been emailing/calling him for the past month (since Aug 23) trying to get my AC replaced. He takes 5-6 days to respond to emails, and would not provide a COI in advance (my building requires pre-authorization) even when explicitly asked. I asked him on Monday to please send the COI by the end of the week. No response, and when I followed up next Monday (for work to be done on Wednesday), they told me they usually provide the COI the day before work. Don't most buildings that require COIs need approval at least a day in advance? How can you be confident that you sent the right format? It's been an extremely frustrating, one-sided process and I obviously have pursued someone else to do the work. Edited to add: Dave finally emailed me after leaving this review, and left a comment below! By the time he got back to me on Monday saying "we will send the COI tomorrow for work to be done the next day", I was pretty fed up with having to wait for his responses. For reference, I first contacted him on Aug 23 and it took until Sept 12 (almost 4 weeks later) to get the appointment scheduled. I emailed him then on Sept 12 saying please send COI by Sept 16 so I can make sure to let the building know. No responses for a full week until I followed up on Sept 19. This was preceded by me emailing multiple times, waiting 2-3 days for a response, then sending a follow-up email to try to get an appointment (which would then be met with another single question, which I would answer to try to schedule the appointment, etc). It may have been a uniquely frustrating experience for me. I'm sure the technicians do great work, but it is exhausting to have to chase down someone for a month for a simple appointment. read more

Update: Over 6 months ago, I (despite being wholly inexperienced in A/C installation and generally averse to fixing things myself) single-handedly repaired the leaky installation that Keep Cool did last summer with some simple materials that I had around the house. Since then, not even ONE drop has leaked into my apartment-- even in the heaviest rain storms. I waited a full 6 months to write this update, just to be sure. Again, read this back-and-forth and note how Keep Cool's principal literally did back-flips to avoid accountability. Note how easy the issue would have been to inspect and fix in the first place-- It was so simple, I was literally able to fix it myself. Case closed. read more

I needed some window AC units installed and this company was incredible! They came on time, did a great job and price was what they said would be. One of my units didn't arrive on time and they were very accommodating in rescheduling. The guy that did the job was Eric, very nice fast professional and got it perfectly done! One of the units was a Midea U inverter, which other companies charged much more or lacked experience installing these new design units. Highly recommend this company. David is a saint and a half. I wanted to get an AC installed after that heat wave a couple of weeks ago. First two places I called were completely booked and not making new appointments because everyone in NYC wants an AC at the same time. I got in contact with David and he put up with my not knowing anything about my building (haha what is a COI??) and never being available (haha what is the sun??) for a week until schedules matched up. Installation itself took 30 minutes and was entirely painless. I'm pretty sure these guys don't have dedicated office personnel so any communication you have with them is between appointments. From other reviews it seems like, if you don't need a certificate of insurance, they're pretty quick with a same-day install. If you do need COI/Workers Comp details, it's $10 extra and takes a little longer, but still definitely worth it. read more

Very pleased with our installation. I'm not sure who the owner is but Dave Messina was the person I communicated with and who came to do the work. 1) We were told by numerous outfits that our installation posed various out-of-the-ordinary problems and would cost anything from $500 to $1100 or maybe more. The job was to remove a 30-year-old window a/c unit that had been adapted to fit a through-the-wall fixture and install a new a/c. Dave must have responded to my initial and subsequent inquiries over ten times to make clear that according to the info I provided there was no issue here and it would cost $300, i.e. a standard fee to install a through-the-wall 14000BTU unit in the old sleeve. This turned out to be the case so I was being (semi) BS'd by some of the people we'd spoken to. Dave was incredibly patient in thinking through the problem and reassuring me. 2) Some outfits wanted a visiting fee. But there was no fee with Dave. he worked out from the info that there was no issue (I don't think there was a visiting fee but he didn't need to visit as it turned out). An experienced guy, in other words. 3) he brought extra insulating and caulking that wasn't necessary most likely but I wanted it. 4) absolutely no fuss from Dave. A gentle person who responded to our requests and worries without airs. 5) You can trust the Terrific reviews on Yelp and Google of which there are many. And rock-bottom prices. 6) the website is the best. It asks you for detailed information describing the job and the specs in an actual form fitting for the internet age (even if the graphics are 1990s). No room for misunderstandings or vagueness. Fantastic job by Mr. Sean! This wasn't a simple install. I have casement windows and I couldn't find another AC of the same size as the old one. I contacted Dave through Yelp and filled out their request form. I like that they ask you to attached pictures, so you are getting a realistic estimate. As a sales manager and small business owner, myself, the follow up and customer service is really poor. Called several times to schedule a residential installation, in Williamsburg, for 2 units. Dave would not commit to an install time, said he'd follow up the day of with a time, and never heard back. Ended up going to my local hardware store, Aurora Hardware, and had a tech show up within 20 minutes. Got both units installed for a little less money too. read more

Easy to setup the appointment and the most reasonable prices of anyone I called. They service the Bronx which is a bonus because many places didn't. Our installer was named Joel, he was friendly, efficient and didn't leave a mess. We had two units installed with plexiglass. The plexiglass is so clean and it's definitely better sealed and way nicer to look at than accordion fan wings. Took a couple of hours to complete, but that was mainly because one unit was new out the box which took longer. After years of struggling with ACs and fearing we would drop one out of a window or on our feet, it was well worth it to have it professionally done and it was pretty awesome to watch someone handle the units like they were feathers. read more

These guys really saved us when our AC went out over the hottest weekend of the summer. A service I'd used previously, who will get their own not-so-positive review here in a moment, came in and wanted SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS to replace our window unit (which sits 12 feet high, so its not quite as easy as it sounds). Knowing that the MOST expensive unit to replace ours would run around $1000, we quickly looked around and found the Keep Cool guys. They picked up the AC the next day, arrived on time, were professional and friendly, and did the work for less than a tenth of what the other vendor wanted. Only criticism was they are not super detail oriented. I found that they'd failed to remove a lot of the styrofoam packaging from the inside of the AC unit, and I climbed a ladder myself and spent 15 minutes digging it all out with a screwdriver. I imagine they would have come back if I'd insisted, but was easier to just do it myself. That criticism aside, if you have a straightforward installation job, these guys will take care of you at a reasonable price, definitely recommended! read more

Very happy with this business! I called around noon, left a message, they returned my call within 15 minutes, and we were on our way. After telling him about the 2 AC units I wanted to install (one window with an existing bracket, one without) he asked me to text him some photos and that they could send someone in the next couple hours. Chris arrived around 3pm with everything needed for the job and was very efficient. I think he was done in like 20 minutes, even with one slight addition (the bracket that was already there needed to be moved to accommodate the larger unit- Little upcharge for this but no problem). I am so glad that I called them and they were able to do this job immediately. Up on the 5th floor I wanted to make sure it was done correctly and safely, and it was. My apartment had a weird window that had a solid sheet metal panel that made it almost impossible to install an AC unit. TL;DR - Excellent service, same day delivery& installation of a new unit for a reasonable price. You can pay via check, Venmo, or credit card. Didn't know an (awesome) experience like this was possible - I sent my first message to David this morning, and one of his employees just walked out of my apartment after installing my window unit! Yay! 10 hours from start to finish, and could have been less if I had been faster to respond/home all day. I am new to NYC, and have never had a window AC unit in my life. After arriving back in the city after an extended trip, I nearly passed out from the (unexpected) 90+ degree heat in my apartment. I couldn't imagine another hot sticky night sans AC! But ... how do people acquire one of these window units?! And how do people install these without accidentally smooshing innocent brunchers beneath their window? I asked my friends, and quickly realized most people just buy the unit from the previous tenant, or they have a handy friend who helps them out. I realized too late that I should have stopped the girl who rented before me, and begged her to leave her unit.... With all that aside (just trying to make NYC newbies feel better) - Keep Cool saved my life today. I sent a generic "request quote" message through Yelp at 8am (on a Saturday!), and got a response from David less than an hour later. He immediately provided his cell phone number, but I chose to continue messaging via Yelp. After a few more messages, I decided to shoot him a text, to which he was very responsive. Between 12-1pm we confirmed a price, my address, and a time for installation. He offered to come by at 230pm, but I wasn't available until 545pm. One of his employees was here at 545pm on the dot (shocking, aren't we in NYC?!) and was done installing by 6pm. I paid $325 for a new Frigidaire unit (with Best Buy receipt), delivery, and same-day installation.
