Off-season, it's earmuffs and a blanket and invigorating vitamin sea! Highly recommend their Italian sub, chicken cheesesteak with mushrooms and chicken parmesan sandwiches. All are homemade with love. My husband is vegan, as is the warm and friendly owner, Amy, so he can eat the delicious vegetable soup made by Amy's husband, Chef Joe, or her delectable eggplant meatballs. A very cute little spot with some seating outside to wait or eat if you'd like. The inside has all of your Joe's chips and drinks (Joe's has my heart). The cashier, didn't get to catch her name, was SO friendly and informative. We ordered a long hoagie and let them do their thing. Now, I'm used to the normal on my hoagie (mayo, lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.), but there wasn't any condiments on it or cheese. So make sure you run down your preferred way. Anywho, that bread? Amazing! A lil low on the turkey but not a huge deal. The price, it's up there lol but worth it. Josie's I'll see you soon!

This place is located on the corner and parking appears to be street parking only. I stopped by around 11:30 and was able to be seated immediately. They have bar seating which is first come first serve as well as tables throughout. Bar seating was much quicker. After about 5 mins my waitress came and took my order. Challah French Toast, Homefries and Bacon. 15/20 minutes go by and my food came. The Homefries are a good portion. They are seasoned well. The bacon was warm and crispy as well. The challah French toast was delicious. I enjoyed my meal overall. Overall this is a good place that met my expectations. The food was as expected and the portion size was good as well. It's a cozy space, nothing super fancy, but really that's all you need sometimes in a neighborhood Italian joint. Everyone at my table raved about their food from the pasta Arrabiata, to the veal special to what I had which was the crab pasta. There was so much crab and the sauce was so light. The burgers are great, and the last time I tried their cheesesteak which normally comes with cherry peppers and red onion. I asked for it plain, and it was super delicious. Portion sizes are solid, and prices are reasonable considering the area. We actually ended up here because Pasta Volo -- one of my favorite spots in Asbury Park -- was closed that day. The Speakeatery made for a great backup. You order at the counter, and the service is decent. The space is long and narrow with some stool seating up front and more table and chair seating towards the back. The grill and kitchen are situated in the middle of the restaurant. The place only has indoor seating, which fits the speakeasy vibe nicely. Overall, I'd recommend The Speakeatery for breakfast or lunch when you're visiting Asbury Park for the day.

When I walked into the restaurant, there were 6 people standing ahead of us at the hostess stand. Tables were emptying out but no one even acknowledged our existence for - no exaggeration- 15 minutes. We made conversation with the people around us that it was almost comical that no one even said they'd be with us in a moment. It was odd and we almost left and walked to The Buttered Biscuit down the street, but we stuck it out. Once we were seated we were given a tiny placard to scan the menu with our phones. Service after being seated was surprisingly consistent after our long wait time to be seated with no acknowledgment from staff. I have a gluten allergy and the online menu did not have specific information showing what was GF or GFA. When I asked the sever about it she rattled off some GF options but of course I couldn't remember all of them, having them marked on the menu would be so helpful. I ordered the Birria Omelette but chose to have the tortilla strips on the side since they were in a shared fryer. The dressing for the side salad was light and tangy. The omelette was supposed to be French style but wasn't creamy in the middle. Birria meat was tender and kind of overwhelmed the overall taste of the omelette. I also had an iced decaf mocha latte and it was good, not too sweet and pretty much coffee flavored chocolate milk. My dining companion had the classic French toast, which looked delicious and he really enjoyed it but I didn't taste it because "gluten." Ambiance is really nice, tables are well spaced and the restaurant is well decorated. Not sure if I'll be back but glad I tried it!
