Well, so far, as we are waiting to be sat, I am definitely not impressed. For all the buzz and hype, not sure why as of yet. Too much time standing here reading not great reviews. Kinda worried.
We've been seated and the menu is impressive. I read good reviews on the Wisconsin cheese crisps, so we ordered them immediately. I suggest ordering ranch at the same time you order the cheese crisps. The marinara it comes with is good, but the thick and delicious ranch dressing they brought was after we asked for it, was a definite step up for these delightful cheese crisps. (Think small mozzarella bites)
My husband ordered the French dip with chips and I took this opportunity to order Holishkes, otherwise known as stuffed cabbage rolls. My fingers are crossed on this item because they aren't a fan favorite at the house, so this will be a treat, if they're good. My son is ordering the katz meow, sounds good.
The food, when being delivered to the table, looked incredible, but... my husband's French dip looked huge and wonderful, but was so skimpy on the meat, I wanted to send it back, but he doesn't like doing that. For a place to call itself a NY style delivered and serve this sandwich, well, its a flat out lie. I have a picture of his cheese sandwich. My cabbage rolls were indeed rolls of cabbage. Large portion of cabbage, and again very little meat under the two quarter cabbage heads. The European sauce needed salt, which you have to ask for because of covid. Dumb everywhere, not just here. I know why this is considered a poor man's meal, emphasis on the large amount of cabbage and small scoop of ground beef/rice mixture. It was tasty, but I wouldn't recommend for the reason I just stated. I ordered a potato knight as my side. Salt and their amazing ranch dressing brought this otherwise bland side to life. My son's sandwich, the katz meow, looks good. We're bringing it home to him and I don't see how this thing could disappoint, as it looks like there is plenty of meat involved.
I hate to talk about the service because with the pandemic issue, there are many excuses for poor service, or perhaps lack of great service. Tbh, I think our guy just IDK, dare I say.. overwhelmed? His badge said he was a trainer, but his attention to detail has me hoping not. We had to ask for everything, nothing was suggested or offered. We had to ask for water refills and the 3 ladies at the table next to us were complaining about their empty tea glasses. I take that back, he did offer up dessert, and I thought my husband was going to cave as he is big on cheesecake, but his disappointment in his sandwich was enough for him to turn it down. Thats something to take note of.
Im struggling between a 2-3 star review, but I think for the money we spent , 3 is not deserved. Look at the pictures of my hubbys sandwich in particular, and you'll see what I mean. Also check out the small portion of beef/rice under the cabbage mound. Sorry katz, but you have no business calling yourself a NY deli styled restaurant. read more
