Katz's - Challah French Toast and Cinna-Bundle - Delis Near Me - Houston, Texas

So, I finally made it here and it was absolutely mediocre. If you've ever been to Kenny and Ziggy's, comparisons are inevitable and I have to say Kenny and Ziggy's is light-years ahead of Katz' in every way. I had matzo soup and the stuffed cabbage: these are staples and hard to fumble. Both were just okay. The cabbage roll didn't look or taste fresh. And both were served at nearly room temperature! Hardly appetizing. I'm also not a fan of the metal plates or bowls, which is neither here nor there and simply a personal preference. The ambiance is ok and our server was lovely...glad I finally tried it and put my internal debate to rest: Kenny and Ziggy's for the hands-down win. read more

I've been to This Katz's Deli in the past and it was all a great experience except on a day that really mattered. On Sunday, November 19th, my family and I went in to celebrate my daughter's birthday and had a very sour experience here. We had to wait over an hour to get our food. To make matters worse, our food order was wrong and we were over charged. I personally spoke to The Manager and the only think she did was somewhat apologized. My daughter didn't even get acknowledged on her special day. I don't know that my family and I will go back to this location. read more

This place was convenient but not great. The food lacked seasoning. A nice place to come after drinking with friends. Fairly priced.

Food is good. Service is absolutely horrible. Tonight we decided to give them one last try and they failed miserably. My partner accidentally spilled his entire drink. 2 employees saw and walked away. Our waiter was no where to be found for over 10 minutes. Then the food came and the young man who delivered it did not seem to notice the spilled drink. I pointed it out and asked if he could clean it up. He brought us a roll of paper towels and walked away. We almost got up and left at this point. There is an obvious lack of care about customers and a serious lack of training. Won't go back. Ever. read more

There's only one Katz. For a good reason. Damn good food, when only the best will do.

Got this delivered on the first night of moving in to the new spot. Loved it and will definitely order again! Love the menu, I got the 3 stooges which was really good. Home fries were also great read more

Got the Philly cheesesteak at like 2am while staying at the hospital. It was hot and fresh. I will be back here!!

Just had an excellent chicken sandwich with onion rings on a date with my husband here. Service is great. Even though they're going through restoration, everything went well. Everyone seems to be having an awesome time. read more

As always this place never disappoints. Their sandwiches were amazing their soups are on point and to top it off their milkshakes were to die for. We make it a point to visit Katz's deli whenever we come to town. We had a great server who is very attentive and made recommendations. read more

I am not going to lie. Their was a bit if a wait, but the hostess Emily kept ch eking on us and kept us in the loop of the wait time. I didn't feel the wait because she was Talkative. Then we had E.J as our server, who was funny and attentive. I will recommend this place and will personally come back! read more

Love. This. Place. Open all the time. Huge menu, literally. Some of the best fried pickles I've had so far in Houston. I said it, and what?! Eat them and tell me what you think. Anyways...I recently sent solo and had a Broadway Burger with sweet potato fries. And my life has been blessed with these sweet potato fries people. These fries are something serious. Geez. So crunchy, a little chewy, and sweetness..OMGGGGGGG! My point is...go to Katz and eat right now. read more

Great food, service, and Irish Coffee . Midweek breakfast stop. Huge menu! Will definitely return

This is as authentic NYC deli as you can get! AMAZING food and great price. On top of that they are open 24 hours - so I decided to try this place after leaving the club on a Sat night - they were quite busy as expected I didnt have to deal with parking because I ubered and there was only 2 of us so we didnt have more than a 5 min wait. I ordered the ruben and OMG one of the best I have ever had and this is my favorite sandwich. As a jew stuck in the south, this is as kosher and Jewy as you can find without a flight to NYC lol. I cant wait to go back, I will be visiting again when I am back in Houston read more

Went here for some breakfast on a Sunday morning. My waitress D was so so sweet. The food was very good and the environment and area was great as well! Highly recommend, I ordered the egg white omelet then ended up getting a chocolate cupcake towards the end read more

So. I'm pressed. I'm stressed. I'm still hungry. Katz got rid of the Cinna Bundle. The iconic Cinnamon roll, ham, and Swiss breakfast sandwich. It's still on the website menu. But they decided to no longer carry it in the restaurant? The manager refused to make it off menu. I was "recommended" the 2 egg plate. I left walked out. read more

I'm never one to complain. I've worked in the food industry for 5 years, I know how it can be. But this is literally the 2nd time I've had horrible service. I'm ALL about communication. If the server was busy or was in a jam, I'd understand 100% but we were greeted and then never saw our server again. Had to flag down a food runner to put our order in. AND even after that we waited 20+ mins and still never got our food and still never heard from our server. It's a shame because me and my friends tip good and she literally lost out on a great tip. I wish I could say who she was but also when she greeted us she never gave us her name. This will definitely top the cherry on top of me never coming here again. How you going to charge $12+ and up and still not come up to par with good service? This place is honestly a joke read more

Sadly the prices have risen and the quality and portions have declined. The net result is "skip it". I ordered a pastrami Ruben. Gone is the brisket pastrami replaced with grocery store seasoned top round. Gone is the large crusty bread replaced with small thick slices of somewhat stale rye bread. Gone is the heap of meat replaced with 2 thicker layers of sour kraut intermixed with small layers of imitation pastrami. Served on a smaller plate to make it look bigger and looking lost to boot. My wife ordered the corned beef hash and eggs. Again the authentic meat has been replaced with the cheaper pedestrian grocery store variety. Served in slices and not hashed. Rounded out with 2 scrambled eggs and a cold toasted English muffin. Add that the coffee was weak too, and it was a loser of a meal. And all that for a meat $40 plus tip. read more

Katz's - "Medium Rare" Brooklyn Deli Patty Melt Burger - Delis Near Me - Houston, Texas

Eh. It's open 24hrs which I guess is great but the food is lackluster. The cheesecake is delicious and the only reason I'll go.

Where to begin? We waited 40 minutes for our food that tasted like a 5 year old made in a Barbie oven. $19 for a burger and onion rings???? Um??? Whataburger is 10x better and is 1/3rd that price. And then, to make matters worse, our waitress literally insulted us and said Texas is ghetto. "Texas has more homeless people than California" Sis, have you read a news article? Regardless you don't insult a table of people who are from Texas especially if you're waiting on them and the food that we waited a lifetime for already sucks as is! Poor food. Poor service. Poor wait times. As a Houston foodie who's eaten at 80% of restaurants here, DON'T GO TO KATZ. Biggest disappointment I've ever had at a restaurant in YEARS. read more

Why travel all the way to New York City when a delicious deli is right here in Houston? The generous servings of authentic deli sandwiches will bring back some memories if you visited NYC before. Katz's - Heaping serving of yummyness! - Delis Near Me - Houston, Texas

My wife and I have been going to Katz's on Westheimer for breakfast for the past 2 years. Honestly, the only reason we go there is because they is never a wait. Well, there's good reason why no one is ever in the place for breakfast-- the food and service are horrible. I swear, they must change cooks every couple of weeks, as there's never any consistency in the preparation or quality of the food. Coffee more times than not comes out cold and bitter. The eggs are not eggs - they are eggbeaters (are you kidding me!). Pancakes are paper-thin. Wait staff claims ALL restaurants use eggbeaters. They must think we as consumers are stupid, because that comment is just not true. Order an omelette at Harry's, Avalon, Empire Cafe,Snooze's, etc and you will be served fresh eggs and not eggbeaters. I can only surmise that the owner is too cheap to use real eggs. Katz's recently changed their menu and raised prices. I understand the need to raise prices from time-to-time. But, when we pay 35.00 for breakfast, we expect the food to be of the highest quality and service to match. We will not return, as we have decided it is better to endure a wait at other Houston area restaurants rather than to subject ourselves to bad food and equally lousy service at Katz's. read more

Really good food! Really enjoy going there. Friendly service and people, and it's always pretty quick and relaxed. Great place to take a date. read more

If I could give this zero stars, I would. I was told I would have to wait outside in the 40 degree weather for 15-20 minutes and then was physically intimidated by a security guard twice my size that kept getting closer to me and telling me not to give him attitude and just follow instructions even though all I was doing was asking him why I couldn't wait inside. I'm a small female and it wasn't necessary and a terrible way to treat paying customers. When I walked up to the host to ask if I could give contact information while I waited in the car, the security guard followed me over there and continued to try to intimidate me with his size even though it was him who told me to give the host my contact information. He literally needed a busser who could see how he was behaving to tell him to back off because they were cleaning a table that was just vacated for us. I couldn't wait for that though because I felt all of my instincts telling me to get as far away from him as possible as I didn't feel safe and we left without eating. I will never be coming here again because of this terrible mistreatment and recommend that no one give them their money either. read more

We went for dinner around 8pm tonight. The soups were great (broccoli and cheese & the matzoh ball soup). Two people got pastrami sandwiches which they really enjoyed. My steak (the flat iron steak) was super flavorful but overcooked (asked for medium and it was a tad less than well). But the creamed spinach and gravy made up for that flaw. Service was nothingto write home about. Patrons were not seated in a smart fashion (should have filled the back tables first before the walkway tables, as staff had to keep asking our party guests to scoot so they could get through when seating the nwxt guests or bringing out food). Ended up with 3 different waiters/waitresses so it was a bit confusing with one being asked for something and leaving only to have the next one have to ask what we needed again and then the 3rd, with us still not receiving what we asked for (gravy, to go boxes, etc). We weren't sure how they were going to split the tip. read more

Katz's - The matzoh ball soup was highly suggested by my dinner companions. - Delis Near Me - Houston, Texas

It started out as a mixed review, as illustrated by the touched and untouched glasses. While I thought that our server Morgan was right on point with his outstanding service, the food quality was unfortunately poor. I ordered the Ruben hotdog because it reminded me of when I was a kid growing up in Brooklyn. Judging by the texture, dried and toughened exterior and flavorlessness, I'd say that old dog had quite the history of it's own. Alas, though my appetite had been whet with pleasant reminiscence, after but a few cursive bites, I didn't have the stomach for much of it at all. No worries. Awesome atmosphere along with very considerate managers and a bag full of dessert turns a three star night into a five star one just like this! read more

We were wildly disappointed with our experience. Yes, it was late so idk maybe that had something to do it with it, but advertising you never close should guarantee decent food at the very least. The pot roast sandwich was straight up gross......tasted like a wet old shoe or something. It was a tiny portion but since we couldn't eat it anyways I guess that's not an issue. The margarita flight was also awful, tasted like straight up sugar and nothing else for 15 dollars. Literally not sure if it even had alcohol. My wife has been BEGGING me to try Katz's and this was the worst food either of us have had in a long time. We also tried a chili dog and it was ok, nothing to write home about but certainly the least disgusting thing we put in our mouth that night. Also we witnessed the staff being rude to several other customers. Negative energy and gross food/drinks. No thanks guys. Can't imagine going back. Maybe y'all should close for professional development and menu tasting. Just saying. Oh, this all cost us about 65 bucks. Not worth it. read more

Old time favorite. Some places have their IHOP's and waffle houses. Whenever I'm in Houston and I need a late meal, this is my spot. The food is fresh and after the club it hits the spot. My long time favorite is the fried chicken breast. Fair warning, I've never been here before 2am but if they can stay on point that late at night, the regular hour may. Be better. read more

First time here. Got off to a shaky start. I wanted to call my to-go order in, drove 20 minutes there, and I was still on hold. Once there I could see that they were busy. I saw the manager handling a complaint at the counter, then the old man was Forest Gumping it up the stairs with a large full tray. So I finally get to place my order and showed a different manager my phone, as I was still on hold. She apologized and made it right. The hot pastrami sandwich.. my reason for wanting to try this place, was sizy and delicious! I will definitely be back! read more

My wife and I have been really wanting to try this place. I know the one, the original in New York had really great Sandwiches! I've seen it a couple of times on America's best places to eat!!! Lol! So today we got out of the house, thank goodness I'm off in the middle of the week! So she suggested that since we didn't have anything else planned for lunch we should go try the Katz here in Houston! So we made the trek from League City to just west of downtown Houston by Westheimer, Chenevert, and right off of Montrose. We got there right after 11:00am and found ample parking both behind and across the street!. We got in and seated right away, there was a light crowd but it didn't take too long to start filling up! They have a huge menu of Sandwiches, Soups, and sides to choose from. My target for the day and for awhile had been one of their Rueben Sandwiches!!! They come in three sizes, slim, Klassic, and New York Style! At this point you probably already know I ordered the New York Style! My wife ordered the Klassic and a bowl of some kind of chicken and vegetable soup with a Matza ball in it!!! Not really sure what that is, but I tried some and it was pretty good! I also had a side of New York Style potato chips with mine and they were really good! There was enough that my wife, the grandbaby, and I shared them and brought some home along with the other half of her Rueben!!! We ordered the grandbaby a grilled cheese with a side of Mac and cheese and he loved the grilled cheese!! The have a pretty good selection of beer, and craft beers as well as other drinks. We settled for just plain Cokes to go with our meal! I'll have to say my sandwich was huge, but I was hungry enough to put it away! It was packed with pastrami, sauerkraut and dressing! The only trouble I had was in trying to figure out how I wad going to tackle eating it!!! I finally settled on slicing it off a little at a time! It was great!!! If you want a really good Rueben, I'd say it's worth the drive! I'm sure they're other sandwiches are good as well, but I was homed in on having that Rueben!!! Go try it out and see! read more

We came here after my nephew's graduation and there were a lot of other grads and their families (all large parties). Chewy was rude and dismissive of us the whole time- I didn't get a place on the waitlist until Chelsea stepped up and helped me. Once they took us upstairs, he gave us 3 separate tables and said we could sit separately (One wasn't even next to the other 2) ...and walked away as we stood around trying to figure out where to sit. When we asked if we could at least join the tables, he answered with an attitude that if we could figure it out, we can do whatever. When we said we are one party he said he would ask his manager. This would have been a terrible night BUT we had the best service ever, thanks to Marquee. He is the only reason I'm putting any stars at all. Thanks Marquee for taking such great care of our family!!! read more

Enjoyed an appetizing dinner last night here at this fun establishment. There's never a dull night here. I tried for the first time, their Steamed Cabbage Rolls filled with meat and white rice. It was my sisters suggestion and definitely a great choice! The Yankee Pot Roast was tender to perfection melting in your mouth, creamed spinach popping with flavor, and the potato knish soft and hot. I wanted to be sure to include the superb customer service we received from our server, Patrick. He was attentive, friendly, and funny. We had surrounding tables with interesting people and Patrick helped us close out the night positively to an already amazing night. If you go, make sure that you request him!!! Don't forget to have the famous pickles!!! Yum!!! If I had any room left, I would have ordered the New York Cheesecake Shake!!! Next time, Patrick!!! read more
