The inside of the establishment is nice- mixes brick with cliche New York vibe(subway style lettering, lights,etc) The tables are very close together. As I was there eating my food an ice agent walks in checks the tables looks out the windows then walks out. This happened last night 8/26/25 it felt super uncomfortable having someone walk in and out like that. Can you imagine if he grabbed someone and asked for their identification while eating! Scary. Fantastic service, delicious food, interesting Layout. We stopped in for a Late dinner after a show and we were seated at a high top. Star was our server and she is Exceptional!!! The Onion Rings arrived 4 minutes after we ordered them ( hot and fresh ) and the entrees arrived out 15 minutes later ( fast, fresh, exactly as Ordered ). They have a full bar, coke products ( I had iced Tea ). I was going to order the Cabbage Roll entree ( comes with two huge rolls and side ) before Star and I visited. If I lived in Houston, I would have because it would have been a great lunch later on. The single cabbage roll was Perfect! I ordered the creamed spinach ( it's more cream than spinach, topped with toasted melty cheese ) which was Awesome ( not healthy ). My friend ordered the Nashville Chicken sandwich with chips. He said it was spicier than when we were in Nashville and it was fantastic. Star ordered exactly like we wanted, no mayo, add tomatoe and lettuce ( I think it was a slight upcharge, not that we cared ). Wonderful atmosphere just drank, but the bartender was quite rude. I sit at the bar, waiting for my companions. "Joseph" the bartender, came to me and asked me for my order saying something like "what will it be, 'boss?'" I am a close to 60 year-old man; I don't need to be called "boss" or "dude" or "Homie" or "man" or anything like that. Plus, no matter how well meaning some people may be, it has been my experience that boss is something usually reserved when certain people see African-Americans (like me). I have frequently been in situations where someone has helped me and used that "boss" moniker, where nearby a Caucasian person is never addressed that way; It's always "Mr. or sir." In any event, I ignored it the first time, but upon the bartender repeating it two additional times I stopped him and said "what is boss? What does that mean?" He cheerfully responded that he "calls everyone that" -- as if I had asked does he or does he not call everyone that? Or, if he was addressing me that way for a particular reason? I simply asked him what it meant! I told him that "Mr. would do just fine" for me. Having made my objection known, he nevertheless chose to ignore that, continuing to call me "boss" until I left the bar. My leaving in coincided with him addressing a party that was sitting behind me at some tables behind the bar; those non-minority gentlemen got addressed as "sir." In this day and age, when people are particular about how they're addressed/their pronouns etc., I was quite offended by the fact that he continued to use "boss," sometimes seemingly with a smirk on his face, as if to make a special point of it just for me. read more

I've seen a thousand local commercials on tv about this place, now I've finally gotten to experience it! Free parking lot is directly across the street from restaurant. It's a bit small so not sure where you park if it's full, perhaps on the street. I was there late night 11:30pm on Sunday night & there was a decent crowd but the food still came out super fast. Our server was knowledgeable & gave suggestions on food items. Food was really tasty. I swear one of the best reuben sandwich's I've ever had. I was worried the pastrami meat might be dry but not at all. The meat was super moist & flavorful. Loaded french fries had a hint of spiciness. Small size was smaller than I expected but was ok since I had other food & there was just 2 of us. Otherwise, I suggest the larger fry order. Loved the pico on the fries. My dining mate had the country fried chicken which she says was delicious and the creamed spinach which she said was seasoned well but was more like a cheese dip than a side of spinach. Following an acceptable experience a couple of weeks ago, I made another order through Uber. I re-ordered the street tacos, and tried a hamburger along with the meatballs and 8 potato pancakes. The experience was immensely disappointing. I am frankly livid with the decline in the quality between 2 weeks ago and tonight. Dinner this evening was ruined. The potato pancakes are deep-fried. This is not OK! The meatballs are on cole slaw. Who does this? The hamburger is entirely missing (I got the fries). I don't know whose fault that was, or if my Uber driver is enjoying my burger right now. But of course all Uber will do for you is refund you the item price. Forget about actually getting the missing item. But that's an Uber problem, I suppose, not a Katz's problem. Still - I do not know if Katz's even properly packed everything so it might well have been the restaurant's fault. Like I said, the fries were included which suggests it might have been the restaurant at fault. Finally, the street tacos are greasy and devoid of any quality. They are missing many ingredients such as what I had 2 weeks ago. Mere meat and onions, with a very heavy coating of grease, like everything else. We decided to stop by Katz's for a late night snack, and surprisingly at 11 pm there was a 25 min wait. I guess that's a good sign, though. To begin with, or server Damont was FANTASTIC! He was so attentive and helpful. Katz's definitely has a gem there! The menu is large, so everyone is bound to find something they want. We started with the nosh basket, and everything was tasty in there. I ordered the matzo ball soup and two eggs with a side of brisket and potato pancakes. My only qualm is that I asked for my potato pancakes to be cooked light, which I know was a bit difficult because there are precooked, but mine came out almost black. It was a bit disappointing because the potato pancake bites in the nosh basket were so good, but it's okay. I still had a good experience and this is definitely a great choice for after hours food. read more

Katz's! "We never close." After my Katz's experience yesterday (12/20/25) I can only hope the place goes tits up. Worst dining experience possible. Table service was nonexistent: my wife and I sat, seemingly unseen, by the idle bevy of servers and managers. After we were seated in what was apparently an area where diners were rendered invisible, we waited for twenty minutes, hoping that someone would appear to take our order. Didn't happen. Nada. Bupkiss. We finally gave up and walked out, noticing clusters of Katz's employees enjoying private convos while we sat unnoticed. This was the most egregious example of a business caring not a single fig about customer service. My wife brought the issue to the attention of a management person who responded with a deeply sarcastic reaction. This is not acceptable. The guy is too skinny to talk to people like that. Anyhow, upon leaving I was fortunate enough to miss a step on their tank trap of a sidewalk, went all the way down and enjoyed some painful, thankfully minor, injuries. I should have sued them since they maintain an obviously dangerous sidewalk. Anyhow, I will NEVER patronize Katz's in Montrose and strongly discourage anyone from darkening Katz's Montrose location. I came on a Friday night, around 12:30 a.m. for a late night meal with my boyfriend. I love that this place has a full bar. It's especially helpful when there is a bit of wait. We ordered two margaritas at the bar and our table was ready in no time. We ordered the spinach dip (it was just ok, not a lot of flavor). I did like the bagel chips that came with for dipping, though. We also ordered chicken tenders and meatloaf with mac n cheese (it comes with mashed potatoes).
