Well, I stopped by for a late lunch and having been a customer previously had a certain expectation. I was greeted promptly with a smile by the hostess who inquired to the size of my party of one, then led to a table when I declined seating at the bar. It was when I was being seated that the first odd thing occurred, the hostess asked the gay couple at the next table if it bothered them if I were seated at the next table. They obviously were gay and a couple since they were kissing passionately and rubbing each others groin areas in public. But nevermind my thoughts of having lunch next to a passionate couple. TBH, this ruined my whole lunch vibe. Things proceeded downhill from there. The server came across as totally unconcerned with me and my experience and only interested in whether or not I wanted to order an appetizer. I ordered an iced tea and it took a full 5 minutes to get my beverage, by which time I was ready to order. Again I was hit up to order an appetizer, which I declined. I ordered the Pastrami and Eggs which when delivered to my table was acceptable, but I could have cut the poor attitude with a knife. My server, Lamar, didn't bother to check in as to how things were or if I needed refills on my tea or water. When he finally did swing by and I declined the offer of desert and requested my check; I heard him tell the hostess that I was his last table. Not something which encourages me to return, regardless of his previous poor service. Come time to pay my bill, Lamar hands me a tablet with a preloaded suggested tip amount which was insulting to me given the poor customer service which I received. I should add that working in the service industry myself, I'm very atune to the difference between good guest service and distain for the customer. Maybe Lamar needs to check his career goals because he doesn't excel in guest service. If my visit today is indicative of the regular service, I can't recommend stopping by. Our server was knowledgeable & gave suggestions on food items. Food was really tasty. I swear one of the best reuben sandwich's I've ever had. I was worried the pastrami meat might be dry but not at all. The meat was super moist & flavorful. Loaded french fries had a hint of spiciness. Small size was smaller than I expected but was ok since I had other food & there was just 2 of us. Otherwise, I suggest the larger fry order. Loved the pico on the fries. My dining mate had the country fried chicken which she says was delicious and the creamed spinach which she said was seasoned well but was more like a cheese dip than a side of spinach. As I was there eating my food an ice agent walks in checks the tables looks out the windows then walks out. Wonderful atmosphere just drank, but the bartender was quite rude. I sit at the bar, waiting for my companions. "Joseph" the bartender, came to me and asked me for my order saying something like "what will it be, 'boss?'" I am a close to 60 year-old man; I don't need to be called "boss" or "dude" or "Homie" or "man" or anything like that. Plus, no matter how well meaning some people may be, it has been my experience that boss is something usually reserved when certain people see African-Americans (like me). I have frequently been in situations where someone has helped me and used that "boss" moniker, where nearby a Caucasian person is never addressed that way; It's always "Mr. or sir." In any event, I ignored it the first time, but upon the bartender repeating it two additional times I stopped him and said "what is boss? What does that mean?" He cheerfully responded that he "calls everyone that" -- as if I had asked does he or does he not call everyone that? Or, if he was addressing me that way for a particular reason? I simply asked him what it meant! I told him that "Mr. would do just fine" for me. Having made my objection known, he nevertheless chose to ignore that, continuing to call me "boss" until I left the bar. My leaving in coincided with him addressing a party that was sitting behind me at some tables behind the bar; those non-minority gentlemen got addressed as "sir." In this day and age, when people are particular about how they're addressed/their pronouns etc., I was quite offended by the fact that he continued to use "boss," sometimes seemingly with a smirk on his face, as if to make a special point of it just for me. read more

Very exciting to eat here!! There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant and I hear there is another across the street. When you walk in, it's super cute and you are greeted by a case full of dessert and a hostess. The menu has so many choices. I finally went with the French dip (middle size), with chips (I'd skip the chips), the matza ball soup was good but a tad salty, the fried pickle spears were really good. I tried my friend's potato salad and it was soft. We were too full for dessert. The manager did stop by our table to see if we were ok. Streaks of residue all over the table and the booth, and the smell was even louder. When you're in a restaurant, what you want to smell is the food. At Katz's, it should've been the smell of French fries, toasted rye, onions on the grill, and coffee. Not sour mop water, dirty rags, mildew, and mold. I am extremely disappointed what this place has become. So after ten to fifteen minutes of waiting for service, we finally got the chance to tell our waiter we were leaving. Upon reading reviews I am glad that we didn't stay long if the common practice for Katz's towing company they contracted with is to steal and bribe their own customers.
