If there was a zero star. It would be here. Used to love this place. Food, service and experience was always above board. Until today. Food was poor. Service was deplorable and management's interest in us having a nice time was even lower than all that. read more

Evan provided us excellent service with great humor. Food was spectacular! Keep up the good work!

I went to Katz's last night for dinner. I ordered my usual Patty Melt.  When the sandwich came out, the presentation was different from how it had always been - this time the sandwich was presented with lettuce and tomato on the sandwich instead of on the side.  This change may not seem like much, but for me, to put a cold wet tomato and lettuce on what is traditionally a hot cheesy grilled sandwich made a huge and negative difference.  When I summoned the waiter Vince to inquire about the food, he proceeded to tell me that I was at Katz not at Whataburger and that's how the sandwich comes.  I was appalled at the insulting condescending statement from a waiter and asked him to remove the food from the table and from my check. The manager on duty Israel came over and inquired what was wrong -  I explained the situation - he apologized and immediately comped the meal.  I appreciate Israel's efforts but was not at all confident that this waiter would be coached and that this incident would not be swept under the rug.  Today I went to the Katz's website and was surprised to find that there is not an avenue to lodge a complaint to the company in writing.  I called the location on Westheimer that I'd patronized and spoke with a male party who identified himself as Brett Pate the manager on duty - he informed me that the restaurant general manager Eric Salinas believes that his store managers are best equipped to deal with customer complaints such as this and he did not entertain such complaints directly from patrons.  Somehow it seems there's a disconnect between ownership, management and the customer base.  I have been dining at Katz's since before they came to Houston - they used to be in Austin downstairs from one of my favorite places, Top of the Mark ... I surely knew where I was last night, maybe Whataburger would have appreciated my patronage more.  I won't be back here again. read more

Food is usually good, although they have their off days. The service here has consistently been terrible

I would give this place 5 stars because I've been a loyal customer for about 3 years now. But recently my absolute favorite menu item (the cream cheese jalapeño peppers) was taken off of the menu. Very very disappointing. The peppers were the reason I ever made a second trip in the first place. (And a wonderful server named Billy) Tonight I was greeted by a very nice manager named Israel. He made me a drink at the bar and it was perfect. Also excellent customer service. Every time I am here. PLEASE get the peppers back in the menu! read more

KATZ'S DELI I would have to rate this restaurant one of the greatest ive ever attended the new york style sandwiches are the bomb and service was amazing.there was this one african american door man that lead us to our seats and also got our drinks for us he was very helpful in getting me to understand the menu before our server even got to us.i tipped him 10$ but he would not take it that's real classy.I WILL BE BACK SOON TO EAT WITH ALL MY FAMILY! Greatest restaurant in houston ...... read more

Please when you come in ask for PATRICK to be you're server you wouldn't regret it. He's an awesome server he would make sure everything in you're order right. read more

My husband and I made our first trip for a late Saturday lunch. Service was excellent! Dallas made sure our tea glasses were always full and checked on us often to make sure everything was good. He even brought us a small sample of the saurkraut to try! It was excellent, by the way. We started with fried pickles. They were steaming hot and delicious. My broccoli and cheese soup was well seasoned, hot, and comforting. We also tried the grilled cheese sandwich and the pot roast sandwich. We had both on sourdough bread. The sandwiches were very tasty. The roast was so tender and the grilled onions were perfectly cooked. The only complaint - we were too full to try cheesecake! But, we will definitely return and already have a plan in mind to try new things and include dessert. Can't wait! read more

Came here for the first time tonight and I was so impressed/surprised. First of all, my waiter Patrick was so wonderful and welcoming! I had the blackened chicken Caesar followed my a chocolate coconut macaroon and BOTH were the best I'd ever had! read more

This was easily the worst dinning experience or lack thereof. I took my girlfriend out to eat and decided to drive 26 miles to this place. We get there, put our name on the wait list and decided to hang out at the bar while waiting for a table assignment. I ordered a drink which after 10 minutes the bartender asks me again what drink I ordered. Keep in mind the bar wasn't crowded at all. This bartender took my drink order, turned around and kept cleaning only to ask me 10 mins later what drink I had ordered. In the meantime our name gets called for a table assignment. Bartender tells me go ahead and sit, I'll bring the drink to your table. We follow the lady to the table. She sits us and leaves without giving us a menus. After about 5-7 minutes the manager (I assume) approaches our table and ask us to go back to the reception to get seated. I explain to him that we waited our turn but reception lady didn't give us a menu. Few seconds later the lady shows up with menus. Doesn't utter a word. Simply puts them on the table and leaves. Well ? I asked! She was gone. In the meantime the drink I ordered 20+ minutes ago is still not there and we are yet to be waited on. After a few minutes we get up to leave. At the door I encounter the "manager", explained the whole situation to him and he looks me in the eye and nonchalantly goes "I apologize" with a shoulder shrug.. ughhhh I wanted to scream but I thought better and simply left. NEVER EVER again will this place get my business. There is no option for a zero so I'll give them 1 star by default. Worst service ever. I've never written a review for anything before but I'm compelled to make this known. read more

Katz's has made me write my first yelp review. JT our server was prompt, answered questions, even gave suggestions. We started the nosh basket which was done perfect. The fried items were fried to perfection and the firedog wedges were so juicy. Main course I had the four meat combo sandwich on French bread. The meats were so flavorful and savory. When you come to Katz's you get a great deli experience with a classic menu that's solid across the board. As a bit of a sandwich enthusiast I'd be hard pressed to find a better sandwich in the city. read more

I used to be addicted to Katz' vegetarian reuban until I noticed my clothes started feeling tighter. So, I've cut back on my visits to this place. It's a great place to treat yourself to, after nights out at a sports event or a club, since it's open 24 hours. Given the generous portions, though, be sure to block off some time for the gym. read more

Late-night dinning in Houston at its best. You see a variety of people and a variety of food. Good sandwiches ... especially the Ruben. Fried pickles w/ ranch ... mmm... good. Service is hit or miss but I guess you pay for the New York attitude with your meal, lol. read more

Food was good but two stars off for the service. The waiter came by during the middle of our meal and asked if he could take any plates away. We said no. Then he brought a to-go box and set it on the table. In not more than another 15 minutes, he came by and just took half of our plates away - with food still on them. I just looked at my boyfriend in disbelief. Was he in a hurry to take off on his shift? Apparently not, because he took his time getting the check?! read more

This place could not be any better! I have the best service, and the food is absolutely unbelievable. Always cooked right and promptly taken to your table. and I love the fact that is Kosher! read more

This was my first return to Katz's in a few years. The last time I was there the runner dumped very hot matza ball soup down my chest and arm. I wasn't hurt badly, but it sure made me lose my desire for soup for a while. I ordered the soup again last night and it was pretty good. The disappointment was the hot corned beef sandwich. The flavor of the meat was good, but there was so little fat in it that it was very dry. For nearly $13, I expected a much better sandwich than that. Also, my server initially acted like I was taking up his precious time, but he sure was more friendly and pleasant when it came time for me to pay the bill. Think I'll stick with Kenny & Ziggys. Much better food and service in my humble opinion. read more

In NYC there is a very famous Deli "Katz's". This place is attempting to work with that reputation, but misses by a mile. Now don't get me wrong... The hot pastrami sandwich was good, but not comparable to the real McCoy in the Big Apple. read more

The food arrived and was barely warm. Server was rude and would not replace my dinner.

I've been wanting to try the food at Katz's deli for years. I stopped in for a late lunch and it was great! Must do a late night visit.

The Reuben is the best anywhere I have ever had it and I get them EVERYWHERE. The skinny size has the best meat to bread proportions and so tastes the best. I get extra Russian and a side of sauerkraut and it is heavenly. I cannot speak for anything else on the menu but as long as you get this you will be in love. Oh and the stawberry cheesecake shake, the best anywhere. Great pickles, terrible coleslaw. read more

The food is decent and value is good. But don't ever expect your soup or salad to come ahead of your entree. All of the food ordered by the table will come all at once. You can try requesting otherwise, but it won't work. read more

Quite possibly the worst "deli" experience I've ever had. This is a sit down restaurant a la Applebees, not a deli. Pastrami sandwich (that came with gross coleslaw and a pickle), a chocolate chip cookie, and a Coke came to $21. The pastrami was only slightly warmer than room temperature, on dry bread. Hell, even the cookie was wrong. It was like it came out of the fridge. I don't know where these guys get off calling themselves a deli, but if you are looking for a deli sandwich or experience, this is NOT the place. Won't be going back or recommending to out of town friends. read more

The cheesecake shake was good, the kugel was OK. My husbands food was cold, and my food was barely warm. My husband and sons drinks weren't refilled, and we had to find our waiter when we needed something, and they were out of latkas. I had been looking forward to going to Katz for about a month after seeing their commercial. If I wasn't already in Houston for other business I would have called it a wasted hour drive. The manager dealt with our problems, but I don't have any desire to go back. Maybe I'll try the woodlands location. read more

food was so good! we had Evan as our server and he was so sweet and friendly! I highly recommend checking this place out!

We had lunch there today food was great! Also had the rice pudding. OMG it is to dye for!!!!!!!!!

Love it every time I go...I order the Reuben on wheat (because I hate rye and pumpernickel breads) and they make the only sauerkraut I will eat......the fried pickles and matzo ball soup is standard fare with me and cannot leave without having...but the real treat is: THEY HAVE DR BROWN SODAS!!! The diet cream soda is my fave... read more

I live and work in the neighbourhood, and it has always been such a pleasure to come eat good food at an hour when most places would be closed for business. We've been coming here for years. My favorite is the matzo ball soup and the bagel and lox. The best part about it is that they are open all day and all night. We often will go after a night out and it's perfect comfort food. read more

Went for a late breakfast this past Saturday and was terribly disappointed in both food and service. I ordered eggs over medium and they came out rock solid. It took about 10-15 minutes to get our waitress' attention to address it. 20 minutes later (FOR EGGS!) she brings me another plate. This time the eggs were not cooked. The part that is supposed to be white was still clear. To make matters worse, the rest of the plate was ice cold. Well, again, it took 10-15 minutes to get our waitress' attention to have the item removed from our bill. At no time did a manager come to our table which I find to be pretty shitty customer service if your kitchen screws up an order twice. Husband had the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and loved it. So eat here if you only want scrambled eggs or you want to wait on over medium eggs for an hour and a half and never get them. The Diet Coke was legit though. (Eyeroll) read more

Sid is great! Food is always excellent and great atmosphere! Cocktails are wonderful and the best macaroons in town!!

The sandwiches were huge, but boring. The waiter was very rude. A know it it all, and just unpleasant, his name was Jeremy. Then when we got the bill, he tried to pull a fast one on us, and hide charges and tried to get double gratuity! Never Again will be we go to Katzs. Its too bad you have waiters like Jeremy who give the whole establishment a bad name. My family use to go there 4-5 times a year when we visit Houston. Never again. Check your bill 3 times before you pay, especially if Jeremy is your waiter. read more

Went there for brunch and had the corned beef hash and eggs. Delicious! The corned beef hash was not canned, it was real corned beef and potatoes and it made the dish. I don't remember a whole lot else as I'd just been to the dentist and was still kind of sedated. Coffee was excellent as well. read more

Went to the Westhiemer location October 19th 5:41 pm. They were out of almost everything we asked for. I had a Manhattan steak which surprisingly they had and it was prepared well, and a good value. My partner''s had Motza ball soup, and chicken in a pot. The matza ball soup was tasty but the matza balls fell apart when disturbed with a spoon. That was the good part of the meal. The chicken in the pot should be boiled chicken with noodles and veggies. In stead of soup they served chicken broth straight from the package a piece of old microwaved roasted barbecqued chicken,no noodles they were out of noodles, and a rotten black potato. Called for the manager (Patrick), he has as much savy as a wet noodle, so I guess they did have noodles they had Patrick. He was insulting and said he would eat the Black potato. Said he would comp the item if we hadn't have eaten some, He is a real A_ _HOLE. Called the phone # 713-589-2611 left a message for Barry Katz the owner. H e didn't respond. He obviously takes this course of action as I have read in other reviews.Watch for the closing of these two restaurants It's coming. The bread was good , the slaw was good the pickles were good THE MANAGEMENT SUCKS.Hey Barry! come see me when you close these eateries, I will help you land a fast food job somewhere. read more

well i used to frequent this place all the time with my wife & kids... never again!!! this place i've learned has 90% of their male servers are sex offenders. ones name is israel escobar. a serious civily commited sex offender plus ask these guys..their last name look them up; martin, shon sims, nick, leihi,evan,james,harlan,alex... plus many more.my kids and wife aren't even safe to go to the bathroom alone because of child rapists and other rapist. this place needs to be investigated and shut down!!! put on the news. Had a great breakfast at Katz. Our server, Shon, was very good . Wonderful way to start the day.

Besides being the very few places that are 24/7, they have great sandwiches, especially the ruben, and some of the unique drinks you can find in Houston. A few being the celery soda and freshly made egg cream soda. Yep you heard me. It is a bit of a drive but a must to visit and come again. read more

This is a removal and update of a negative review that I posted a few days ago. What I am very pleased with is the manner in which my concerns were handled. I spent a few minutes this morning speaking with the OWNER of the restaurant who I find, diligently tried to contact me on Sunday when my issue occurred. So, what did I find out? I didn't realize the restaurant has been in place since 2000. That's a nice run. There is actually a KATZ who owns it, so it's not a concept or chain restaurant. (now I'm sure Mr. Katz doesn't live upstairs like in the old movies, but he certainly has his pulse on the business. During my discussion, Mr. Katz took me behind the scenes of how he manages and monitors the pulse of his establishment. I'm impressed. So, we have bigger things in the world to worry about and now, yes, I will be returning. I'm not happy about what originally occurred on Sunday, but even in negative experiences, positive things emerge. So, the food it great, the graphics are fun and the parking is nice too. Go to Katz's. If there is a problem, fill out the comment card. The are not flushed down the toilet, but actually, read and acted upon by the owner himself. That's what a world class business looks like. Thank you, Mr. Katz, for your time. I'm impressed. read more
