Katy's is a staple in IB and the locals love it. Having been to Katy's once or twice before, being in town, I wanted to stop by and order my Pink goddess drink. The staffing has ALWAYS been so welcoming and helpful with any questions or concerns I might have. I ordered my drink and took my walk to the beach, which is literally just out back. As I drank my smoothie I realized it was very watery and not as fruity as I hoped. Nothing drastic but I am usually used to the thicker consistency I would get prior to this visit. No harm though, I will definitely come back ! read more

Who doesn't love a great breakfast sandwich? If its you, then stop reading this review... Katy's Cafe is the quintessential beach cafe in a small beach town. It very much reminds me of traveling abroad and walking into the local hot spot. First, the coffee is DELICIOUS! While eating I watched the woman at the counter hand craft multiple beverages and she paid attention to every single one. My latte was so great, I had two. (Honestly, I could taste colors by mid-morning). But, let's talk breakfast sandwich yummy-ness. When ordering a sandwich on a croissant, the freshness of the croissant is crucial. This was a super fresh croissant and made the whole sandwich. Add some cheese, sausage, and egg and BOOM - heaven. Now I will warn you - I was a little surprised the egg in my sandwich was over easy and I was caught over guard by the runniness. However, it worked and was great. Next time I am in town for businesss (or pleasure) I will be back for sure! read more

Fantastic cappuccinos! Lovely little spot. Was too early for me to eat but hopefully our plans let us come back for breakfast sandwiches. The employees were amazing and kind and genuine. Both gave me helpful tips for vacation plans. read more

Cute little beach town cafe with a mermaid and surfer-girl theme. We got two breakfast sandwiches and a pecan cinnamon roll. The coffee was good, and service was friendly. It extravagant, but friendly and busy like people come in regularly. Local EMTs were there so it must have a good reputation! Sat outside on their picnic benches and then walked 50ft to the Imperial Beach right behind the place. Worth a try if you are looking for some local character instead of a standard fast food breakfast! read more

Came here on a weekday morning, busy, with a steady flow of customers. This place definitely has that laid back, divy, beach vibe. Super casual. There's tables inside with a living room feel, and additional tables in the back and front. Order at the counter and the food is brought out to you. The ladies working were all very friendly. I ordered a breakfast sandwich that included avocado. Except the avocado was more like a mashed consistency, and not necessarily guacamole. The ingredients were straightforward, but it tasted a bit off. I shared a bit of my sandwich with my hubby, and he agreed that it tasted funny. Sigh... But Their acai bowls are delicious!!! You can get a small acai bowl as a side dish, which is what I did, and it's more than filling on its own. The acai bowl included a small scoop of acai, fresh cut fruit, granola, AND yogurt. I really enjoyed it! If ever we come back, I am definitely sticking with the acai bowl. Super casual and laid back.. enjoy all the the random beach theme decoration/trinkets everywhere! Very good Mexican mocha (iced). The mermaid special is okay. I think it's heavy on the banana - so if you're into that, you'll love it. Cinnamon rolls are seriously the best I've ever had. The chipotle sandwich was yummy. A little spicier than I expected. read more

This cafe is so cute and absolutely delicious! The staff was incredibly inviting. The food was SO good and the Nico-Lada smoothie (not sure if that's what it's called, but it was the special smoothie made by the special employee Nico) was absolutely to die for!! The food was spectacular, totally over my expectations is the best coffee tasted ever. Also, I order a frap the flavor and mix was really good definitely I wanna return and try new things. The cashier was very nice it's feel like a very home-loving place. Short walk from our Airbnb and just a skip away from the beach. Katy's Cafe was the perfect place to visit before a morning on the beach. My SO had a bagelwich with cream cheese, tomatoes, avo, and egg. I had the veggie start which was egg, sprouts, veggie patty, tomato, avo, and provolone w/ rye toast. The bagelwich was perfect and delicious just the way it was. The veggie start was also very delicious however I wasn't expecting a full on black bean burger. It was a bit much, but I stayed full till late afternoon so I honestly don't have too many complaints! The coffee...I think could've been better. Tasted a bit burnt and there was no cream/sugar combo that could've saved it. read more

We were staying at a nearby hotel and want to grab a quick breakfast. So after narrow down to 2 locations, either this or the wave cafe, we decide to give this a try based on the review of yelp. Glad we did. Like everyone said, cute little place and cute decor. Surprisingly they have more seating than I anticipated. The price is reasonable and service was nice. The food was good. I wish instead of using smash avacado, they used sliced avacado. It would give a better texture. I try the Vietnamese late, it doesn't taste like Vietnamese coffee at all. It taste like regular coffee late. Definitely would come back if I'm in the area again. read more

Great littles spot for some great coffee and a grab and go breakfast! I got the Al's Cali King and it was amazing! Since you can't currently sit inside, they have some outside seating. They give you the food in a togo box so we walked to the beach to enjoy breakfast. The staff is very friendly as well! I defiantly recommend coming here for a quick and easy breakfast bite. read more

We're on a week vacation and although I'm not a coffee snob by any stretch, the hotel coffee leaves much to be desired. Needed a morning fix and we'd seen this place the night before while on our evening stroll. So glad we popped in to grab a cup. I've had three days of delicious vanilla lattes and one giant, fresh yogurt parfait. So much fruit, yogurt and granola packed into that cup. My husband had a banana and berry smoothie. Forget the name. But I tried it and it was tasty. Something I'd definitely order for a healthy breakfast. Great little place with a beach vibe and friendly staff. Will be going back tomorrow and likely Saturday for my morning caffeine fix. read more

To hell with the chain coffee shops come get a great chai tea latte, or smoothie or Açaí bowl staff is friendly, owner is a cool guy definitely a surf town type shop. Looked for a meeting place between City Heights and San Ysidro to have a meeting to catch up with one of my ministry leaders. As the Director of Women's Ministries at City Heights' campus of The Rock a church, we have and serve communities from the border (and south) to San Marcos and north. I wanted somewhere that was in between our locations and had been to IB (aka Imperial Beach) a few Saturdays ago at the pier. That place was a cute coffee shop/ice cream spot. We needed a luncheon menu snd a place to sit--even outside. I reviewed some locations and chose Katy's. As it turns out, it was a great choice!! The coffee was good even at 115pm and fresh! Thank You!! And they had Almond Milk, even better. My friend ordered the B. L. A. T. (BLT w avocado) I had the Club. Both on sour dough toasted bread. I would always choose Jewish Rye over any other bread but most places don't carry it . Sour dough was great. The bacon was crisp and soft. Not too limp but not so crispy it broke into smithereens!! They were out of ham and the cook asked if he could substitute turkey who h was just fine. The dressing was a very light Mayo based snd mustard. Just as I liked it. If I am in IB again, I'll be back!! Oh...and the staff was cute snd young and there were youngins on skateboards...all ok; it IS the beach, you know. Lol. Enjoy. read more

I have been coming to give the coffee a "second chance" hoping it'll taste better but the iced lattes don't taste like coffee at all. Every time I've gone it just tasted like milk. I'm not the only one that says this apparently and a group of girls tasted their iced coffee while waiting for their food and they said it didn't have the coffee taste either. Not worth it for iced lattes thats almost $6 for a 16 oz. Maybe it's time for a new espresso machine unless they are making it wrong. Also not a welcoming environment for the times I've gone. Staff doesn't greet or smile unless they know you. read more

Today was my 2nd time going to give the iced coffee another chance but it did NOT taste like coffee. They have to be doing something wrong with pressing the espresso or something unless the coffee really just sucks. All you taste is the syrup flavor mixed with milk. I paid for 2 shots of espresso to add into our iced vanilla latte and iced caramel latte and it did NOTHING. Why? Because the girls don't know how to make espresso properly. They should be required to take a class so they can serve good coffee. You're basically paying $6 to drink iced flavored milk. Also got food and the bagel was soggy and I ate it about 3 mins after the lady brought it to our table. The 2 girls working were very awkward, quiet, and talked very slow thats why the line gets long and takes forever. Not once did they smile at any customers until a lady came with her dog and the taller girl grabbed and carried the dog while she was working by the espresso machines.. The other girl who was shorter with blonde-ish hair was just wearing sweats and a sports bra to work like she just got out of bed.. not a very good presentation of the business. I know it's by the beach but at least cover up with a tank top instead of just wearing a bra. The workers who work at other places here don't dress like that and it's to look presentable. The place needs a bit more cleaning specially the tables and the napkins at the counter had coffee all over it. After another horrible experience bad $6+ coffee and bad customer service, we will not be returning to this place. read more

Cute little place right off the beach. Can't quite see the ocean but you can hear it if you sit on the back patio. Stopped in for an acai bowl and latte. Both were excellent. The acai bowl was fairly big...just wish there was a bigger portion of acai in the bowl. $12.85 for bowl and 16oz soy latte. Staff is friendly and food comes out quickly! There's 2 hour parking right out front but I'm sure it gets hard to find parking on the weekend. I came in on a Wednesday so no issues there. read more

Katy's Cafe was established in 2006 by Katy Fallon, an avid surfer and Imperial Beach local. Inspired by her passion for all things beach and surf related and coupled with her experience in the restaurant industry, Katy created an atmosphere that reflected her unique take on Imperial Beach culture. From the menu's many beach-themed items to the massive oceanic murals on the walls and doors, the cafe became a regular destination for locals and tourists alike.

They also have a young man who plays jazz piano there every Sunday, so the ambiance is pretty awesome along with the nice weather. Sometimes it can get windy so bring a sweater, but otherwise, it's usually a really nice day to hang out with friends and family. I also had a matcha ginger thyme latte with oat milk which was just tasty since ginger is a rare flavor in coffee drinks. I loved it, and it was so good that I took an extra one home. The service is amazing, and on busy days you may have to wait a bit, but it's worth it. If you have any questions about a dish, don't hesitate to ask!

We tried the mazapán and Mexican mocha, they were both good. Again, i prefer the stronger coffee flavor so for me it was subtle but still good. The flavor of mazapán was there but again, subtle. They were not overly sweet which I liked. We also tried a s'mores puerquito cookie which was also not overly sweet and good flavor. Not only is the Coffee fantastic with some great original recipes but this bad ass coffee shop is women run out of her apartment "hence the name". Now I get to go sit in less traffic with a smile on my face and a warm cuppa Joe in my hand Of course I had to order two different recipes. I got the cinnamon dolce and the rosemary iced latte. They are both perfectly made with the perfect amount of coffee to sugar ratio. She also had milk alternatives for me, so I got both with oat milk! I started with the banana matcha, which arrived crowned with the cutest little bear ice cube I have ever seen in my life. I'm talking weaponized cute. The flavor? Smooth, balanced, lightly sweet, and comforting in a way that made me feel emotionally supported. I didn't just drink it--I healed. Then came the machaca. Listen. This dish did to me what that scene in Ratatouille did to that critic--except instead of a French childhood flashback, I was spiritually transported to a Mexican tia's kitchen I'm not even sure I've lived in. Deeply savory, perfectly seasoned, rich without being heavy. Every bite whispered, "You've been hungry for this your whole life."
