Katsu Gin is renowned for its commitment to quality ingredients and the meticulous preparation of traditional Japanese fried cutlets. This was my first visit, discovered while searching for Japanese Katsu/cutlet options, despite it not being close to my location. We arrived during lunchtime, and the restaurant was nearly full. Although the space isn't large, it offers ample seating, including bar-style seating, and features an open kitchen concept. The menu is straightforward yet comprehensive, with a variety of katsu options, including shrimp and veggie, which are typically served as tempura or kakiage at Japanese restaurants. We ordered the Hire Katsu curry-pork tenderloin, veggie and shrimp katsu, and a side order of tonkatsu. You can choose curry , traditional katsu or Katsu Don. The food was prepared quickly. The highlight was the Hire Katsu curry-pork tenderloin, with incredibly tender meat. The curry is yummy and not too overpowering. The veggie and shrimp katsu were also delicious, though I personally prefer them in tempura style. The tonkatsu (pork loin) was good but a bit dry. Overall, it was an enjoyable lunch, and we left with some leftovers, as the portions were quite generous. read more

Gin? Like the alcohol? No--more like Jin from BTS, because this katsu spot is just as memorable (and a little polarizing) as a comeback album. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but luckily there was no wait when we dined in. The staff were quick, efficient, and polite, and once we ordered, the food came out hot and fast--always a great sign. Let's talk about the star: the katsu. It absolutely delivers. The exterior is perfectly crispy and golden, while the inside is juicy, tender, and practically melts in your mouth. It's rich, satisfying, and easily the highlight of the meal. On the other hand, I wouldn't recommend the tamago donburi. I usually love dishes like oyako don, so I had high hopes, but this one just didn't hit the mark. Cooking the katsu in the egg ended up softening the crust and overcooking the meat, which took away everything that made the katsu so good in the first place. Great concept, just not the execution I was hoping for. Portion sizes here are very generous--honestly, one katsu plate could easily be shared between two people. Overall, even though not every dish was a hit for me, the quality of the katsu alone makes this place worth coming back to. Not everything has to be a perfect album to still have a few standout tracks--and this spot definitely has one. read more

There aren't many katsu specialty restaurants and I saw how popular this place was, so I knew I need to come. I came before they were open and was seated right away and it became packed later. Hire Katsu Curry (4/5): This was the pork tenderloin. I thought the breading was great, but the meat was a bit tougher than I hoped. The curry was comforting. I loved how it came with miso soup and picked vegetables. Overall great place to try! read more

Katsu Gin is a welcome addition to Milpitas offering delicious katsu. The restaurant itself is clean and fairly small so expect there to be a wait if you come during prime hours. On a Saturday evening around 6 PM we had to wait roughly 30 minutes before being seated. Once arriving you can scan the QR code to put yourself in the queue. We ordered the fried tofu (appetizer), chicken katsu set, and pork katsu curry. The fried tofu was perfectly crisp without being too oily. A nice appetizer to start the meal. The set comes with cabbage, miso soup, rice, and meat of choice. The chicken was perfectly fried on the outside and tender on the inside. We were anticipated the pork to be tender but found it to be more tough and slightly dry in comparison to the chicken. I would recommend the chicken moving forward. The curry had good flavor and was excellent to eat with the meat. Service was friendly and quick. They frequently monitor the dining area to make sure all needs are being met. The owner of Katsu Gin is really friendly and you can tell he really is passionate about his food and restaurant. Overall, I'd return and recommend! read more

I came her for a group dinner and the staff was super accommodating! We had a toddler and they were very willingly able to seat us where a high chair was convenient, but we ended up not needing one. Service was solid. I got the Tonkatsu set and added fish katsu and I must say that I was very much impressed with the Fish katsu! They give you an assortment of sauces, a side salad, rice, and miso soup. The sauces worked perfectly well with the fry on the katsu and the batter on the katsu was nice and light. Every bite was delicious and felt lie i was eating a clean cut of crispy protein. Absolutely delicious! read more

Food 5/5 - Ordered tonkatsu pork-loin cutlet, which includes miso soup, cabbage salad, pickled veggies, two dipping sauces and a bowl of rice. Miso soup was good and the cabbage salad was refreshing, definitely a bigger portion than I expected once broken apart. The pork-loin cutlet was delicious. The breading was nice and crispy, and the thick-cut cutlet itself was tender and moist. Price $$ - Price is good for the portions that were served. Service 3/5 - Service is average, they made a round to refill our waters. Ambiance 4/5 - Interior is good with Japanese modern-open themed decor. Overall - Had a pleasant experience and would visit again. read more

Finally found a great Japanese katsu joint in the Bay Area. Reminded me of being back in Japan. The sets are great options. I recommend asking for the curry on the side so that your katsu doesn't get all soggy during your meal. Service was also solid as well. Really can't complain honestly. The hire katsu pieces are so thick and juicy. The breading is also just perfect! I guess my only request is for it to come with a knife so we can cut into small pieces haha. read more

I'm so excited there's finally a tonkatsu place in the bay! The pictures i've seen from this place look so good and i decided to try it today. Overall, the flavor is there but the meat is just ever so slightly on the dry side and the bottom is a little bit soggy. The restaurant is pretty small and i came at the end of lunch which i believe was the only reason we were seated so quickly. I can see this place being super packed during busy hours It fulfills my cravings enough for tonkatsu but it could be better read more

Found this place on my way to my hotel and thought the pictures of the food looked spectacular. Overall, it was a little hard to find in the strip mall but there is plenty of parking. The chicken katsu set was a good deal and the chicken was juicy as advertised. The breading could have had more flavor though as it was kind of bland. The curry was pretty good but mine wasn't particularly hot despite me sitting at the bar right in front of the folks making the food. Got the takoyaki and it was also not the hottest. But it didn't seem like they made the takoyaki there. Seems store bought in terms of flavor and in terms of how uniform the balls were imo. But they had decent chunks of octopus in it so it was passable as decently good. The servers were nice but not the most attentive. I got 1 refill of water despite being right next to them. My cup sat about 10 to 15 minutes empty. I didn't want to bug them as they were having some sort of conversation among themselves. Overall, I am not sure if I'll come again but its worth a try if you are in the area. read more

I came on a Saturday a little bit before they opened at 5:30 and there was already a couple people waiting to come it! I'm glad that their business is booming because they truly deserve it! I got to try the Hirekatsu Curry set this time since last time I didn't like that the To katsu was thinner than the first time I went. The hirekatsu was juicy and thick so I think this will be my go to from now on instead of the Tonkatsu just because it's thicker and juicy! I didn't get the Tonkatsu this time so I can't compare it to the last time I had it. I notice they added lots of new menu items such as curry udon and rice bowls for those who enjoys those dishes! Hirekatsu Curry 5/5 I asked for my curry to be on the side this time and it was perfect along with a side of cabbage salad! I didn't not have a soggy katsu after eating! I also noticed they now place the katsu on the rice instead of half and half on the curry and rice which helps a lot with the texture! my boyfriend ordered the set normal and everything was still crispy! Oyster and Shrimp Tempura : 5/5 shrimp was crispy and the oyster was yummy! it also comes with an side of cabbage as well! I think they have gotten the hang of things since they opened! Food comes out at a good pace and the staff are very friendly and attentive! I will definitely be recommending this to those who love a katsu that reminds me of the one I had in Japan and Hawaii! Thick and Juicy with crispy fluffy crust! I believe the main focus of the restaurant is the katsu rather than "katsu curry" which is fine with me because I come here to eat crispy juicy katsu and everything else is just a plus! I really like the way they fry and do their katsu here. for the affordable price you pay, the meal was delicious! read more

Not a good start. We put our name on the waitlist via the QR code but unfortunately it doesn't tell you a time limit of when your table will be ready. It only tells you what place you are in line. After checking several times we were finally seated after waiting for 45 minutes, even though the hostess told us that we only had to wait 15 more minutes. She gave us a menu outside while we were on the benches to look over the menu and stated that we could pre-order, but she never returned to take our order. We were then seated at a table and waited up to five minutes before I asked for someone to take my order; while the three employees were just standing around laughing and talking. The food was okay. We ordered the chicken katsu (8.5/10) , shrimp katsu curry (6/10) and tonkatsu curry udon (7.5/10). We wished they also had the sesame to ground. I think the curry was a little bland to my taste. read more

Was craving some katsu chicken and so I tried this new restaurant in Milpitas after going to the range nearby. The restaurant was on the smaller side, so it was packed after we came in around 6. Order: - Chicken Katsu with curry on the side 7/10: there wasn't anything special about the curry, but the savoriness of the sauce went very well with the rice. The katsu was also perfectly crisp which made it very addicting to eat. Ask for the curry on the side if you don't want it mixed with the katsu and rice. - katsudon: this wasn't as flavorful as we wished it could be and the sauces were very light and sweet. Additionally, the katsu was very soggy so 5/10 for the dish. Overall, the crisp on the chicken katsu was the most outstanding part of the dish. The dishes weren't super special, but it was a decent katsu places. read more

Folks here love their tonkatsu curry! Came on Friday at noon and there was about a 20 min wait for our 5 person group. The restaurant is small with either 2 or 4 person tables, part of the reason why we had to wait for our table. I'd say this place can seat no more than 50 people. The service was great as the restaurant manager tried to seat us as soon as he could given the place was packed. He noted a large table becoming available soon so he went ahead and offered to take our orders first so that the food would be ready by the time we were seated. He was right about that - we don't have to wait long at all before our food came. The menu offering is what you would expect: katsu with or without curry, and katsu don (with rice / egg) as well. Our party ordered pork cutlet, chicken, and fish (rock cod) katsu with curry to try a bit of everything. They were all delicious with the right amount of breading on each. The pork cutlet was juicy and flavorful and is my recommendation if you can't decide what to try. I liked the curry as well, thick with a bit of a kick; I like having something to dip the katsu into. Also, the rice here would cooked so well - carbs are my weakness - and I really appreciate rice that comes out perfectly. This is a hearty meal, generous portion, at $20 a plate. It comes with a side of miso soup and small side of pickled vegetables. Other reviews talk about the meat coming out not as hot as they expect - I imagine that the kitchen staff do let the freshly fried meat cool off a bit but it really didn't take away from the experience and the breading was still very crunchy. Same with the miso soup; I didn't mind that it didn't come out piping hot. It still tasted freshly made. #26-01-01 read more

Love katsu gin! Arrived ~10 min before opening on Saturday and got seated right when they opened. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. The katsu reminded me of the katsu in Japan. Surprisingly, this place wasn't very busy on a Valentine's Saturday. I called about 30 minutes ahead to get on the waitlist, and when we arrived we only waited a few minutes before being seated. By 7:30 p.m., there were open tables with no wait at all. We definitely over-ordered for two adults and two big kids. My 11-year-old barely touched his tonkatsu because he was already full from the sides. The katsu itself was very well done--lightly breaded, crisp, juicy and tender; its very close to what we had in Japan, without being so crunchy that it scratches your palate. Like most Japanese-owned spots, the restaurant is very clean, with good service and solid food quality. I witnessed one of their staff hand drying each silverware. It's a small neighborhood place with only a few tables and a short counter, so it's not ideal for large groups. read more

I decided to give this place another go, and I am so glad I did! Pro tip: skip the curry. While the curry version is good, going without it really allows the natural flavors to shine. The oysters were executed perfectly--shattering crisp on the outside while remaining incredibly tender and juicy on the inside. They arrived at the table piping hot and were served with a generous portion of fresh vegetables that added a nice crunch and balance to the dish. If you are a fan of seafood, this version is a total game-changer. It's fresh, savory, and highly satisfying. Highly recommend!" read more

We visited around lunchtime. It can get pretty busy, but our waits here haven't been too long (approx 20 minutes). We ordered the chicken katsu, pork katsu curry, and a side of the fish katsu. The chicken katsu was incredibly juicy and crispy! This is definitely our return-pick. The pork katsu was okay - it was a little dry. Didn't stop it from being crispy, though. The curry was also just okay - nothing outstanding. The fish katsu was unique, and also our second favorite. It comes with its own dipping sauce, which was a nice compliment. Currently, this takes the crown of our favorite katsu spot in the South Bay area. read more

The parking situations tight so make sure you give yourself some time to find a spot. Located near City Hall, I'm sure a lot of workers are regulars. Came in around 12:20pm and thought it was going to be busy; but it wasn't. It wasn't until I had gotten seated, the place really started getting customers through the door so I'm glad came when I did. I didn't know what the difference was from their regular Katsu and Mira Katsu so I asked the server and she mentioned it was their signature and it's what they're know for since it was a darker cut of the pork. It comes with miso soup, salad and a variety of pickled veggies. Wasn't sure how it was supposed to be eaten but I do know the little onion was my favorite after a bite of katsu. The platter comes with 4 katsu's over a wire rack so that the meat won't get soggy and it could breath. They give you the option to size up your rice but I know that would've filled me up so I stuck to the regular serving and focused on the included salad and it brings a nice crisp and freshness to the already deep fried item. You forsure could come here with a friend or fiancée and share a meal as the portions are HUGE read more

So good I came twice in a week! A little busy even on weekday nights (as they should be!), but food comes out pretty fast so I only had to wait about 15 minutes for a party of 3. Overall - they're super talented with frying, the dishes don't feel oily at all. Call me an old man, but the three types of pickles are also awesome for helping you digest so you can finish all the delicious katsu! One other note, both times I came, the appetizers arrived at the same time as the main dishes. Would prefer if we got the appetizers earlier, but no biggie. Dishes tried: Curry hire katsu - I asked the waiter about the difference between the hire katsu and the regular tonkatsu, and he said the hire katsu comes out thicker and juicier. Breading is thin and super crispy. Not quite as juicy as the best katsu I've ever had in Japan, but dang it's close! Curry is also thick and nicely flavored, perfect proportions to the amount of rice given. This is going to be my go-to dish in the future! Oyster & shrimp katsu appetizer - You get two shrimps and two oysters, I found the oysters very slightly fishy. Shrimp is pretty good, but I think I prefer a tempura style batter rather than the katsu style, so maybe not for me. Fish katsu set - this one comes with its own slightly citrusy shoyu sauce in addition to the normal katsu sauces that come with all the other sets. This shoyu was so good and paired perfectly with the fish - my family even dipped their chicken and pork in it! The fish itself was slightly inconsistent in fillet size, so the thickest piece came out perfectly cooked, but the thinnest piece was a little dry. Overall, still delicious and would reorder if I was in the mood for fish. The cabbage under the katsu sets also come lightly dressed with a sesame sauce - you can ask for more dressing if you want it! Takoyaki - nice and generous on the size of the octopus inside, and comes out hot and crispy. Above average compared to other Takoyaki I've had! read more

Not a particularly large restaurant and it seems pretty popular. I went on a Saturday afternoon and there were a few people waiting in line to dine in. I ordered the Tonkatsu Set. It came with thick chunks of pork katsu, salad, rice, sauce, and miso soup. The pork was wonderfully fried and not dry. While already delicious by itself, the sauce added a tanginess that elevated the flavor. I'd rate this meal an 8/10. Pork was delicious. Salad was fresh and everything paired well together. Miso soup was solid as well and didn't skimp on the tofu like some other places. My total came out to be about $20, which I think is worth it by Bay Area pricing standards. I'd definitely come back again to try other items as well read more

Long wait times. We waited about 45 min for a table on a Sunday night. Customer service was good and our group liked everything we ordered. The breading is light and not too oily! Came with a friend on a Saturday around 1:30pm and Katsu Gin was very busy. They use a QR code waitlist posted by the entrance. Located in a large shopping plaza, parking was easy and we walked around while waiting. We were quoted 30-45 minutes but only waited about 20. Service was efficient and friendly, and food came out within 10-15 minutes after ordering. The space was clean, modern, and I liked the open-kitchen concept. Chicken Katsu Curry: Light, crispy, non-oily batter with tender, juicy chicken. The curry was flavorful without being too salty, and the miso soup and pickled veggies were a nice addition. 5/5 Overall, Katsu Gin delivered a satisfying meal with efficient service, making it a great spot to visit even during peak hours. read more

Came here right when it opened and got seated right away. I recommend to come here early since there aren't a lot of tables. I personally don't love katsu a lot, but I came here since my family loves it! We got the Hire Katsu Curry, Tonkatsu Katsu Curry, and Chicken Katsu Curry. Out of all the katsu we ordered, my favorite was the chicken katsu. It was the juiciest and most tender cut of meat. The hire katsu had thick and big cuts of meat which is great if you want lots of protein. The tonkatsu was more tender and balanced more evenly with breading than the hire. Between the hire and tonkatsu, the only big difference was how thick the meats were. The three katsu meats in general were a little too oily for my taste, but on the bright side, the portions were pretty big. The curry felt a little fatty paired with the fried katsu. However, the pickled onion was great! I loved the acidity of it paired with the fattiness of the dish. Overall, if you like katsu, you will like this place. Next time, I will probably get the regular katsu paired with the katsu sauce instead of the curry! read more

I really enjoyed my first time here. Luckily a few individuals from my party had queued up earlier so I didn't have to wait too long. This place gets busy so try to go near when they open or transition times from lunch to dinner. I'm impressed with the amount of food as well as the cook on the proteins. I definitely felt like I got my money's worth. I ended up getting the fried fish katsu. The batter on the fish was good, but the meat itself was very lightly seasoned. Depends on your take, but I could see how some may perceive it to be a little lack luster. For me, it was deliberately served with 3 sauces. I got to curate my bites and it wasn't monotonous. I also felt better since I was consuming less sodium. You also got a miso soup, cabbage salad, rice, and pickled veggies served in a small sauce dish. I definitely want to try the other proteins out. The wait was a bit long because we went around 6:30pm on a Thursday/holiday and had a larger party. Staff was nice and accommodating. Even my grandparents liked it! That's a compliment if I've ever heard one. Chicken katsu curry: juicy chicken, good crunchy outer texture, savory curry, this was great quality! I like Japanese curry, this one reminds me of the flavor of golden curry. So filling! Fish katsu: loved the tenderness of the fish and also the sauces that came with this, there was a spicy katsu sauce, regular katsu sauce, and a ponzu sauce (I think?). I liked all the sauces but the fish on itself was a little bland so I think hitting it with a little salt after the fry would do wonders! read more

My go-to order at Katsu Gin is their chicken katsu set. I definitely love the cabbage and the way they bread their katsu here. It reminds me of the way they do it in Japan. I also like how the rice is fluffy. Unfortunately, they were out of chicken skin so I had to come back another time. The service here is a 5/5. My friend and I came here before closing and they didn't make us feel rushed. My second time here was with a party of 4 and it was pretty busy on a Sunday night. We waited outside and shout out to one of the staff his hospitality for turning on their patio heater for us! This time I came in the evening and the staff told us they were out of chicken skin, but he recommended these mini fried tofus that weren't on the menu and I have to say, it was good, but we weren't craving it as much as the chicken skin. I did have to wait nearly 10 minutes for my food to come out while my friends were almost done eating. It was a disappointment to find out that the party that sat next to us minutes after we sat, were able to order chicken skin. At this point I felt like they were being selective, but that's just how I felt. They could have informed us that it's back on the menu. Overall, I only come here for the convenience of how close it is from home, but they can improve on consistency of what's available on the menu. I do hope they add desserts on the menu or something unique like Gyukatsu in the future because this restaurant has a lot of potential for growth. I'm not sure if it's cause I've had tried a good amount of curry restaurants, but this one just didn't stick out for me. The katsu itself was larger than most I've had at other places, but maybe because of that, it was a bit on the dry and chewier side. Katsu sets are taking over the world! OVERALL: I don't know if it's because I have had the privilege of trying katsu sets around the world (including Japan) or what, but this place was not great, at all. I gave it 3 stars because: 1) you can tell they try, 2) they present the food super elegant, 3) they provide what you need, 4) the food IS edible, and 5) I didn't quickly run to the bathroom. Plus the location is a major plus. ORDERED: Hire katsu... it's dark meat so it totally freaked out the companion eating with me. Went into a lecture of how pork shouldn't be pink. SIGH. Therefore, if you love your meat fully cooked, don't order this. There's cabbage salad with light dressing. Two types of sauces - salty and "spicy." Same three pickles as that of the curry. Bowl of white rice. Tonkatsu curry... it's white meat so it's totally dry, rock hard and hard to cut with a fork. The curry is probably the worst I have ever had in my life. It tasted stale and out of a can. Watching the chef prep, he kept adding water. Curry only seems to have bits of potato and carrot with it being extra thick. ***Very interesting that they don't offer desserts especially matcha ice cream haha.*** SERVICE: Reading the other reviews, they definitely approved with servers actually pouring water and being attentive *brownie points*. Super patient and kind. Payment and ordering was done through the same tablet. AMBIANCE: Casual dining. Definitely quick in and out. Although there's a waitlist via the QR code, it's quuuuiiiccckkk. Everything's already prepared. Not highly suitable for extra large groups due to multiple 2 seaters (but I'm sure they can put the tables together). We've been wanting to try this place for a while and when we finally did, we were pleasantly surprised. I ordered the chicken katsu set and it was super filling. The salad was super yummy, but the chicken katsu was better than I expected. The flaky panko breadcrumbs were just right and didn't make it to heavy; it was actually light. We were served by a young man who was really helpful and attentive. He did a really good job with giving advice and recommendations. He made sure that we were good with our meal and our water was filled. The ambiance of the restaurant was different. Came by close to opening time on a Friday night around 5:40pm and there was no wait. By the time we left, there were many parties waiting to be seated. The restaurant isn't super big so I'd say to expect a wait during busy hours/days, especially while it's fairly new. I got the hire katsu curry set (pork tenderloin cutlet). The katsu wasn't the best I had but I appreciated the presentation, enjoyed the hot miso soup, loved the sticky rice texture, and liked the pickled veggies on the side. Katsu Gin is located right next door to Noah's Bagels. Parking close by is tight, spots fill up quickly and the lot is small. We arrived 5 minutes before they opened on a Saturday and there were a few people already waiting outside. They were letting people in early, so we got seated right away. They do have a QR code for Wait List at the cashier area. They don't seat you unless your whole party has arrived. We placed our order right away since we knew what we wanted but it took awhile for the food to come out..over 20 minutes. We ordered.. TONKATSU $18 -pork loin cutlet with shredded cabbage salad, steamed rice and miso soup. The cut of the pork loin was pretty thick. Tender and not dry. Not much flavor but it came with two dipping sauces and some japanese pickles. The japanese pickles were okay, I prefer fukujinzuke, and I like them to be a bit sweeter. One sauce tasted like the traditional katsu sauce and the other one kinda tasted like korean gochugang. The rice was moist and sticky, the miso soup was basic. The shredded cabbage came in a big mound but seemed a bit wilted, the shred cuts weren't thin/delicate enough. 3/5* CHICKEN KATSU CURRY $18 -juicy chicken served with rich japanese curry sauce, steamed rice and miso soup. Chicken was thick and tender, I was able to cut it into pieces with a spoon. The curry was simple yet comforting. They drizzled some type of sriracha mayo type sauce over the curry, which I didn't care for. The rice was moist and sticky, the miso soup was basic. I asked for chili powder since I like heat in my curry and they gave me togarashi chili powder. 3/5* Service was friendly and pretty attentive. read more

Came here on a Monday night at 6 PM. There was one party ahead of us. It's about a 20 minute wait. It wasn't too bad. What's nice is that one of the staff had asked us if we wanted to order first, so that way by the time we sat down, we wouldn't have to wait for it to come out. Once we sat down, the food came out five minutes later, which was perfect. I came here with family and 3 of us ordered their chicken katsu curry, my brother got their pork katsu curry. It was super delicious. The breading on the katsu feels airy and it's very soft and crunchy. It's a perfect balance of crunch with softness. It's hard to explain it, but it's so good! The curry is amazing and the chicken is very soft and juicy! Just like on the menu, the juicy chicken katsu, it really is juicy. Highly recommend to try it. I want to come back for the ebi shrimp curry next time. Parking was easy to find. The restaurant is a bit small but great services! read more

We had a fantastic meal at Katsu Gin, a newly opened, modern, and clean spot. We tried the Hire Katsu Pork Tenderloin Cutlet ($21) with an extra side of Tonkatsu Pork Loin ($9) and the Tonkatsu Pork Loin Cutlet ($18). I ended up liking the Hire Katsu more--it's softer, juicier, and melts in your mouth, while the Tonkatsu Pork Loin is thick and hearty. The staff were friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. I'll definitely be returning for more of their perfectly cooked katsu! read more

Delicious and tastes just like Japan! We ordered the hire tonkatsu cutlet set and the hire curry tonkatsu cutlet set. They both come with miso soup and a side of pickled vegetables. I really liked the fresh cabbage salad that came with the non curry set, and would recommend that in case you need more veggies. Service is good but the food does take awhile to come out. The pork cutlet does take awhile to cook through after all. It's a little nicer than your average place, but I think prices are very fair given the amount of food you get. I'll come back again! Also if you come in a party of two, it does go by faster. We waited maybe around 15-20 mins at 12PM on a Sunday. read more

The Katsu Set was amazing! The ordering process is efficient. We put our names on a waitlist via a QR Code. Once completed they took down our order. As soon as we sat our food took no more than 10 mins. The Hirekatsu set was a delight. Pork was tender and crispy. The cabbage salad was a big portion enough to share with the wifey. We could have used a little more miso, we asked for extra with no issue. Service was great! I will go again if I'm in the mood for Katsu! read more

Katsu Gin - Hi r e k a t s u ( por k t e nde r l oi n c ut l e t ) - Japanese Curry Near Me - Milpitas, California

This is the 2nd time coming to try and eat here, but the first time actually getting in! The other time, they had to close for a roof leak. It's a very popular and crowded place. Inside dining with a number of smaller tables and counter seating. Parties of 6+ will have to wait a while. They do have a qr code to add your name to the waitlist. The service is friendly and welcoming. All the servers were polite and hardworking. Both owners work the floor too! Katsu Set: All katsu sets are served with shredded cabbage salad, steamed rice, Japanese pickles, and miso soup. *Hire Katsu - pork tenderloin cutlet. Pronounced "Hee - re". Generous & thicks cuts. The fry was perfect on this. The pickles were delicious as was the cabbage salad which broke up the fried goodness. Curry Katsu Set: golden katsu served with rich Japanese curry sauce, steamed rice, Japanese pickles, and miso soup. *Tonkatsu Katsu Curry - pork loin cutlet. Again, generous and thick cuts in a mildly spicy curry sauce. Heart warming elevated comfort food. FYI. The fish they use is rockfish and the chicken is dark meat only. I'd give this o lace a 4.5. I have been here about 4x since it's soft opening. The katsu is pretty consistent. The pork is perfectly cook and juicy inside. My first time there, I ordered the fish katsu. I felt like the fish Katsu was ok. I like it but I wouldn't order it again. I would stick to the pork. Can't go wrong with either pork! The chicken skin is a must get! Parking can be a challenge. Not recommended for big parties since this place is small read more

Visited Katsu Gin for dinner again and finally got to try the Hokkaido oyster katsu curry. We also ordered Chicken Katsu Curry and Tonkatsu Donburi. The chicken katsu and tonkatsu dishes were great. The chicken was very crispy and the curry was plate scraping good. The tonkatsu was also very crispy. It came with caramelized onions over rice and eggs, and I think we will order it again next time. Last time they ran out of the Hokkaido oyster katsu curry so we were excited to try it this time. It's just ok. A lot more batter than I'd like. This time when we walked in, we were greeted right away and brought to a table pretty quickly. It was pretty busy and lively for a Wednesday night. I think this place may be our local go to for curry now. read more
