Not to mention there was someone there looking over their work on her dress and she was finding patches of excess fabric and still loose in the waist. The owner says about the excess fabric in the sleeve, "that hard to fix". uh yeah, that's what u do for a living. U attempted it when she brought the dress in so fix it. read more

Prices may be a little steep but she does great work and in great time. I'm a thin guy so I brought in a suit to get tapered and it fit perfectly afterwards for a cost of $125. On my second visit (a couple days later) I brought a dress shirt to get altered. I tried it on and she was very helpful. She sized me up, made adjustments and recommendations, well involved with deciding the best way to go about it. I would've given it a 5 stars but when I came to pick up the shirt, I tried it on and noticed a button was now missing. Talked to Kathy about it and she pretty much gave me the shrug and said "it's not my fault". Ooh that got me riled up. I had to walk away from there ASAP. After checking the customer reviews of many tailoring and alterations stores, I found Kathy's to be the highest rated establishment, so I brought in a couple of old pairs of torn and unusable pants, and Kathy made a pair of usable and functional pants for me, as well as some bonus shorts. My two visits to Karen's Tailoring have been excellent! First, I had sleeves on a sport coat shortened; and secondarily, two pairs of slacks hemmed. On both occasions, Karen's "Attention to Detail" setting the length was spot on. Her husband Tom, is the tailor; his skills are "On Point' Professional Perfection." Went here to get a couple of pants tailored. Kathy is incredibly sweet and asks lots of questions when being fitted to make sure they accomplish what you are looking for. It was a bit pricey for me though. $45 for each of my pants being hemmed to skinny jeans. I asked about taking in my waist in them as well but that would have be $20 more. My husbands pants were $10 each which was an easy charge. Oh also, when it came to my husbands slacks. He didn't come with me because he was working so I brought in an example pair for her to mimic exactly. She was able to recreate the size perfectly without him even being there I assume the prices are rather high because they tailor is short periods of time. As in you get your shit ASAP. I picked up all 4 pants the following week. When some places could take up to 2-3 unless you pay for a faster service. Overall this place does good work very fast, you just have to pay a little extra. read more

I recently took my bridesmaid dress here for my sister's wedding. It was far too long and because of an ankle injury, I can't wear high heels. I needed it much, much shorter and needed a professional to do it. The dress I took in is heavily beaded and also has a layer of toile like fabric at the bottom of the dress. It was very complicated. From the get go, Kathy was extremely helpful and informative. She was upfront with how much it would cost and what she would need to do. She also wanted to make sure the length was exactly right and what I wanted. The dress was ready is less than a week, and although the alterations were expensive (but it was a very complicated tailoring job) she literally did a perfect job. I could not even tell it had been shortened at all and the length was literally perfect with my shoes on. I not only liked the quality, I also loved interacting with Kathy. She is extremely friendly and nice, and when I came back to get the dress she definitely recognized and remembered me! She definitely adds a personal touch to the business. I've gotten pants and dresses hemmed here several times and they do an okay job. Their prices seem to be getting more and more expensive though. The last time I came here, and it will be the LAST time, I came to get a dress hemmed. She asked me what the dress was for and I said it was for a wedding. My mistake. She tried to charge me $80 for the hem. I told her the dress itself was only $15, which it was. She said that the material was fragile and that it was going to take a long time to do. I ended up taking the dress to a relative who finished the hem in 10 minutes and it looked great. I feel like Kathy tried to up-charge me just because she knew it was a bridesmaids dress. read more

Despite the recent negative reviews I decided to give Kathy's Tailoring a try as they are the closest tailor to our house. I needed alternations done to a suit that I had recently purchased. The man in the shop quoted me a jaw dropping $208 to hem the slacks and take in the jacket. I went to two other tailors in the area. The first quoted me $90 for the exact same work but could not make my tight timeline. The second quoted me $80 for the same work and did great job with a quick turn around. Caveat Emptor! read more

PHENOMENAL experience here at Kathy's! I cannot begin to recommend this shop enough. Long story short, my wedding dress came in almost a month later than promised and despite the high-end bridal shop, was a disaster! I received the dress late night on May 26th and brought it in to Kathy on May 27th. She had the dress altered and finished after one visit and to me by June 6th, just 10 days later. The designer cut corners and cut the under slip material too short which resulted in a clear line and made it look as though I was wearing a mini dress underneath the gown. Kathy helped me perfectly match the material and corrected the problem by sewing the fabric on to finish the dress. It was a true miracle and I was so impressed with her work! It was as if that line never existed! Despite the bridal shop taking all my measurements and supposedly making a custom dress made to fit me, I ended up with a bust that was at least 2 sizes too big and out of proportion to my build. I did not lose that much weight so there was no explanation for why it did not fit. Kathy altered everything perfectly and the dress now fits like a glove!!! Additionally, the base fabric of the dress and the two layers of tulle were not properly assembled which led to a puckering look in several areas lof the dress. I admired Kathy's honesty when she told me that it could not be fixed unless we took the entire dress apart, and essentially started over, because it would compromise the integrity of the dress. Fortunately, after taking the dress in, the puckering lessened due to the removal of some material. Next was the hem line. Due to the intricate lace work it was not possible to hem the dress. Kathy and her partner took the time to suggest and help me try on different shoe height options. The bridesmaids dresses were a whole other story. They too were measured by the bridal store yet somehow all 5 of their dresses did not fit in the bust either. My bridal party ranges in age from 13 to early 50's. While some of my ladies lost weight and their bust sizes became slightly smaller, there was no loss in the teenager's measurements, yet all 5 dresses consistently had too much fabric. Additionally, like my dress, the layers of fabric were improperly assembled which resulted in lumpy effect. Kathy came to the rescue yet again and in addition to perfectly hemming each dress, spent time with each bridesmaid to perfectly tailor and fix the fabric in the bust. read more

I took them back and they redid it to lower it, however she returned it to me with creases and said I needed to take it to the dry cleaners to get them out! This of course will pst me more money and time. I am Very dissatisfied with her customer service and will never return there. Needed a pair of bell bottom jeans hemmed up same day. Found Kathy on yelp and gave her a call, she said she'd be able to get it done. I went during my lunch break and explained that I wanted an original hem since the bottom of the jeans had a cute little fray to them which I didn't want to compromise. Kathy did her thing and told me to come back in a few hours. When I picked up my jeans and tried it on, it was PERFECT!! As if it were never altered. Kathy did such an amazing job, both legs were even, the frayed bottoms were legit AND she was able to get it back to me same day!! The price was a bit on the higher side, she quoted me $45 for an original hem but she said she'll do it for me for $35 since I was a new customer. I brought a coat here to have the sleeves shortened, and they did a beautiful job. Kathy's husband pointed out that everybody has one shoulder that's a little higher than the other, so when they pinned up the sleeves the day I brought in, they didn't just pin one and then measure the other to match - they made sure that when we looked in the mirror, the ends of both sleeves fell in the same place on the back of my hands.
