She is a very nice lady and did wonderful job on my dress! She was done with it super fast too!

Elvia has now tailored about a dozen clothing items for me, everything from jackets to pants to dresses. She's done a great job on all of them. She works out of her garage, and her low overhead allows her to pass her savings onto the customer, charging very reasonable prices for her alterations. She is professional and friendly, and I highly recommend her services. read more

I loved working with Elvia for my wedding dress alterations!! I changed my wedding dress only a couple weeks before my destination elopement and got a dress that was sold off the rack. Elvia was the only one willing to do alterations on my dress in a time crunch and without quoting me a crazy amount of money. I got the bust and waist taken in and had the dress hemmed. She even added a wristlet for me to carry the train and fixed it so the corset wires were not poking under my arms. She is so sweet and had so many good suggestions on how we could make any changes. The dress turned out perfect and I truly cannot thank her enough!!I will definitely be back if I need alterations done in the future and 1000000% recommend her. read more

Elvia is PHENOMENAL! In September of 2023, Elvia did alterations on my bridesmaid dress for my sister's wedding. After she did my bridesmaid dress, she did alterations on my wedding dress for my wedding in December of 2023. Elvia was an absolute pleasure to work with! She completed both alterations in a timely manner, she was professional in all of her interactions, and she is extremely trustworthy. There were numerous ways as to how she could do alterations on the front of my wedding dress and she presented me with all options with a variety of price ranges so that I could make the decision I was most comfortable with. She is an absolute rock star and she is truly talented at what she does! I was extremely pleased with the alterations she did on both of my dresses and I would recommend her to anyone looking for alterations for quality work at a fair price. Thank you, Elvia! :) read more

Elvia was so sweet and friendly! She actually cared about me and what I wanted. Her hands are skilled and she sews every stitch with such care. I am very petite and when I first bought my wedding dress I felt like I was drowning in it. Elvia sized it down perfectly for me and my body shape/size, and for once I felt like a beautiful and elegant adult! The bustle she made was easy to use and it was so cute! She altered my wedding dress and seven of my bridesmaids dresses. She made sure everyone's needs were met, and we all felt like princesses when our dresses fit perfectly! Thank you so much Elvia! Elvia did an amazing job at altering my bridesmaid dress. It fits perfectly, she did beautiful work and the absolute best price. She's not at this location anymore but she does the tailoring from home, just gotta drop it off. She didn't have to measure me, I just put pins on where I wanted it taken in! I had to get the waist and hips taken in and length hemmed. I got quotes from other shops and it was soooo expensive, but Elvia charged over 3X less and had quick turnaround time. She's the BEST! Thank you, Elvia!! read more

Elvira is a gem! I had a wedding on short notice due to personal reasons- I bought a beautiful dress from BHLDN 3 months before our date, had it overnight shipped to my house and then began my search for a tailor. I called and left messages with at least six places in San Diego, and only two actually bothered to call me back. One told me that she could make time for me a month before my wedding, and Elvira who told me she could see me the following week! I was so relieved, although it made me a little nervous that she had so much more availability than everyone else I had called. When I met her she made all my doubts disappear though, she was very thorough in saying what she would take in on my dress, and made me feel very comfortable. It was clear that she knew what she was doing and had lots of experience- she didn't try to sell me on building my bra into the dress because with the way she was taking it in she said it wouldn't show! I came for three different fittings, my first to try things on, a second to take things down a full size and the third to try it all again before deciding how much length to take off. In the end the dress looked absolutely perfect, and I cannot say enough how happy I was with her work. Her shop is located in her garage, but don't let that stop you. She is very professional while still being very warm, and my dress fit perfectly when she was done. Prices here are also more than fair- it was only $90 to have the dress taken in and have the length adjusted! I highly recommend Elvira for anyone's tailoring needs, wedding dress or not! read more

Valente's Tailor Shop - Ordered online prom dress, came a bit big and a very long train. Valente's tailor shop not only made it fit to a T. - Sewing & Alterations Near Me

Left a message inquiring about getting my suit tailored and never heard back. No place to stop by and nobody to hear from.

I came to Valente's Tailor Shop on a referral from a very dear friend. And I am so grateful I called. At the time, I had just purchased a dress for my Elopement that was in approximately 2 months. (We married back in January during the massive rain storms). The dress almost fit off the rack but needed a hem, a bustle, and some work with the corsetted back straps. The dress was vintage lace and in a sheath style cut with a train. Very elegant, but also very foxy ;). Perfect for an elopement! Elvia worked some serious magic making the hem perfectly seamless, incorporating the bustle to be perfectly tailored to the style of the dress. The dress had a couple of layers, so the nude underlayer had a bustle as well as the lace overlayer. And the work done on the straps and bust of the dress made the dress fit like a glove. I've never worn anything so fitted perfectly to my body. I felt so beautiful and shmegsyy!! And it only took a few weeks from my initial visit to pickup (during the holidays I might add)! Top quality wedding gown alterations with a quick turnaround. At an excellent price, too! I will be going back for future alteration needs for sure =) Thank you so much, Elvia. You are a true Gem. read more

I was recommended to Valente's by a friend and I'm so glad that I was. So the Marine Corps Ball is coming up and I ordered my dress online. Super ballsy, right? I tried it on and I looked like Violet when she blew up after she ate the gum in the Willy Wonka movie. No joke So I turn to Yelp and found Elvia! I gave her a call and we scheduled an appointment to take a look at the dress. We ended up taking one of the layers out from underneath the dress and taking the tulle out. I appreciated that she understood my concerns with the dress. She didn't try to overcharge me or find little things to do that weren't needed. CALL FIRST*APPOINTMENT ONLY I will def be back should I need to alter anything else! read more

Awesome tailor! I have just taken my second suit back to Elvia. She is super nice and a great tailor. The quality of work she does is far above what she charges. I started getting my clothes tailored by Elvia earlier this year for job interviews. Not only were they finished promptly but the prices are unbeatable! I've gone in five times already since January for different clothes ranging from jackets, cardigans, shirts, and pants. I needed a tailor for a coat that was given to me as a Christmas gift. I needed the arms shortened and because of visiting not-so-great tailors in the past, I was nervous to take my coat anywhere. After reading amazing reviews here on Yelp, I decided on Elvia; she definitely did not disappoint! Elvia is extremely friendly, knowledgable and professional. She was efficient and her prices are very affordable. My coat fits perfectly, I couldn't have asked for a better experience! I will be taking all of my tailoring needs to Elvia and referring everyone I know along the way :-) Thank you, Elvia! read more

Elvia is the best!!! I bought my dress online from a sample sale and the only size they had was a bridal size 12 (I wear a bridal size 8). The dress was so beautiful and a great bargain so I couldn't pass it up. When I first tried it on it was huge on me; I felt like I was wearing a tent! I was worried it wouldn't be able to be taken in because of all the intricate beading and overlays. I started looking for a tailor and I found Elvia! I explained the above story to her and she had me bring the dress in. She was so friendly and professional and knew exactly what to do to make my dress look beautiful. She was going to take it in, add tulle underneath so it could be more full in the skirt, & a bustle. I also told her that I wanted to add a corset but I wasn't sure if that would be possible. She assured me that she could do it and she did. I'll admit, I was a bit apprehensive at first because I knew she worked from home and I had no plan B if my dress did not come out as expected. But the good reviews and her kind demeanor reassured me. Thankfully, I had nothing to worry about! End result: -My dress originally had an invisible zipper and she was able to put in a corset. It looked like it was always a part of the dress and I got tons of compliments on it! -The bustle was difficult to do with my dress but she was able to do it and it still looked nice! -I wanted a fuller skirt but wasn't sure how to do that, she suggested adding more tulle in the skirt and that did the trick. -The dress fit like a glove. -She is extremely reasonably priced. For adding a corset from scratch, taking it in on the sides, bustle, and adding extra layers of tulle to the skirt was only $350! -She was so kind, professional, and responsive to questions and phone calls throughout the whole process. -She also altered my mother in law's dress and my sister in law's bridesmaid dress and those came out beautifully as well. Note: She does work out of her garage but that shouldn't discourage you. Everything is neat and clean and private. She does work by appointment only but she is very accommodating. I will absolutely recommend her!!! (My wedding was on October 15, 2016) read more

Elvia is absolutely incredible! I came to see her last year to have her custom make my wedding dress, and let me tell you that dress is absolute perfection. I had my destination wedding last week and received so many compliments about the dress from random hotel guests and employees. Talk about feeling like a queen! Elvia listen to everything that I wanted, and called me constantly to update me on what was going on with the dress which made me feel great. Elvia is super honest and incredibly easy to work with. She never makes you feel like you have to do anything specific, she lets you design what you want. Not to mention her pricing is so affordable! Totally worth it all! Valente's Tailor Shop - 2 befores and the after! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me

Elvia did a great job accommodating me with complicated wool shirts that needed hemming in every direction possible, haha. They all look and fit great. Plenty has been said about the shop environment, just know that you have to work on an appointment basis, you can't show up whenever you want, but she is very flexible and I'm sure I tested the limits of that and never heard a thing about it from her. For the amount of work I had done, her prices were definitely fair. 20 bucks per shirt to have it hemmed on the waist and sleeves and have the shoulders, sleeves, and torso all brought in. She works conservatively to make sure you are getting what you want as she goes, rather than going whole hog and going too far, that's always a great approach. I will also add that you shouldn't be in a huge hurry, because she is just one person who is undoubtedly very popular. So, for me with my three shirts (with a lot of work and a few returns that were because of my indecision), it took about 2 weeks all told to get them back. But if I had asked for less work to be done and had been more decisive I have no doubt it could have easily been a week or less, so I think the turn-around time is moderate. Also, if I had been in a true hurry I have no doubt she would have been able to squeeze me in as a rush job. That's it! I'm happy! read more

So I bought a sample gown for a great price and I was scared to get it tailored. It needed a lot of love and mayor work. Elvia had previously helped me do a hem on a dress and decided to take my gown to her. Best decision ever! She was super detailed and explained everything my dress needed. The quality of her work is amazing I'm beyond happy. I'm going to leave pictures so you guys can see the type of work she does. Gracias Elvia me salvó 2 veces! read more
