I had a disappointing experience with Lyn nail tech at Inspired Nail Bar today. I had a 12:00 PM…read moreappointment and arrived on time. I let them know I wanted a design and was paired with Lyn. I showed her a photo of an ombré French design. Her shaping and application technique were good, but the design itself didn't turn out well bc the lines were uneven and the ombré looked sloppy. I politely asked if we could remove the design and just go with a simple polish instead. At that point the interaction became very unprofessional and uncomfortable. Lyn began making disrespectful comments, asking where I normally get my nails done, telling me I "didn't like her," and saying next time I should "just go to someone else." When the manager came over, Lyn even said "your nails were ugly and I made them look better." She also told me she didn't want my money and that I could keep it and stormed away. The manager apologized and explained that Lyn is very talented and takes pride in her work, and mentioned there might be a language barrier. However, Lynne had been communicating with me clearly in English throughout the entire appointment. I remained calm and told the manager that I was intentionally trying not to react or escalate the situation, because I didn't want an altercation in the salon. I made it clear I was willing to pay for the service, bc it wasnt about the cost but that I would not accept being spoken to that way. I also had to ask for an apology, which I eventually received, but it was said with an attitude. Another issue is that when Lyn attempted the ombré spray technique, she didn't protect my skin, leaving paint all over my hands and fingers that wasn't properly cleaned. Even after leaving, it has been difficult to remove. What makes this unfortunate is that I actually enjoy this salon and had a great pedicure the day before from Martha, who was wonderful. However, customers should be able to give feedback about a service without being insulted or confronted by the technician. I'm sharing this because I hope management addresses the professionalism and customer service expectations with their staff, so other clients don't have a similar experience.

If I can give a zero I would! The WORST experience at a nail salon and that's coming from someone…read morewho lives in NYC with so many salons at my disposal. No greeting when I walked in. NONE. For 12 minutes. I arrived about 15 minutes earlier to my appointment because I don't know the area that well and it was cold that eventually. Finally I just spoke to the first person who was a tech there and just mentioned I had a an appointment starting in a few minutes and she said yeah I know pick your color, with an attitude as if I was disturbing her with my presence! ‍ Cool. Picked my color. Sat for another 15-20 minutes. No one came by to ask if I needed anything or to acknowledge that the tech was running a little behind. Finally some older lady comes and waves and hand signals to follow her. I could care less if someone can't speak English as we can always figure out how to explain ourselves someway but the tech who was translating to her was the RUDEST passive aggressive person I have yet to meet in an establishment. Not sure if she's the owner but WOW! I asked if they can do an extension on my big toe and she asks if I booked it and I said no because there was no option online for it but that I did call right after I booked it and the lady I spoke to did say the day of the appointment I can request it as an add on service. So she translates and she starts with my pedicure first. Cool. No issues. The older lady was nice but her nail skills were someone learning. Maybe she couldn't see well anymore, I don't know but the two toes I requested were HORRENDOUS. Both lopsided and one was larger with acrylic than the other. ‍ I really exhausted and I didn't want to complain because I wanted to move on to the next service and get back to my hotel room and rest. While I was requesting the add on service I asked if she would be able to also do a lower leg wax since I would be sitting in the chair for a while for my pedicure. She said she wasn't sure and once my hands were done that she might have time. As she turns her she rolls her eyes and shakes her head! This was the translator. I asked and told her if not it was cool too. Well after giving me the spa pedicure treatment she does the wax. Oh boy! She hardly used the wax and only did the front of leg and not the back. Again, I was really exhausted and didn't want to have an argument. Fine, moving on to my hands. LORD! I booked extension with nail polish powder. Umm. Starts right in the nail polish powder. The translator was sitting next to us with a client and when I got her attention I told her I booked an extension. She's like are you sure? And I said no yes I booked it. She checks and confirms and tells me, it early enough for her to restart my nails for the extension. Oh thank you for your generosity! ‍ Mind you I had prepaid for the services when booking. I have NEVER had my hands done and they not been prep my nails like push back my cuticles and trim them. She did nothing but start with buffing on my nail bed and start with the extensions with the glue. She also went under my nails and added the glue which my skin get attached to the nail. Several of my nails were stuck together like this. ‍ Oh boy and the nail shape. I asked oval. Ended with lopsided round. Then lumps in the nail gel powder. ‍ I did mention it and tried to buff a few out which meant she saw them but then those spots looked like mini hills when she dipped again in the nail powder. LORD! ‍ Okay. I know now I will have get my nails redone when I get back home because this was WILD work. So now it's time to pay for the addons ( lower leg wax and the two toes) charges me $40. I pay. Time for gratuity. I put none. I am not one to not tip but that WHOLE experience was TERRIBLE. The tech made eye contact with me when she saw the receipt and the one who first spoke to me about picking a color looked down at the receipt. She didn't ask anything on how the service was so I kept my mouth shut. Even the client who she was taking care of looked at me and could see how unhappy I was. I just walked out. This was a LONG one but honestly there was no exaggeration to what happened there. Sorry to blast the tech but her name was Cathy. My service was on December 23rd. Would NEVER recommend this establishment.

Harbor Nail House is the 2nd nail salon I've tried since I had to flee After Hour Nail Salon in…read moreFed. I liked it because it's conveniently located near my gym and I can walk there...plus they have Sunday appointments, which was a game changer for me. It's nice in there - a converted row home that still has exposed brick, plus comfy seating virtually everywhere. That said, I've been here 2x now. The first visit I received a spa gel pedicure and a gel polish change on my fingernails. Overall, the care I received was good, tho there was a sharp pinch on one of my toes during the cuticle cutting part of my pedicure. I appreciated the gentleness with which the nail tech removed the old gel from my fingernails, and the whole process was fairly quick (aside from the initial wait), which is awesome. One of my nails was super craggy at the bottom after a week though, which was not awesome, but happens sometimes. My second visit, I only did a polish change on my fingernails. Again, the tech was super gentle removing the old gel and she quickly painted my nails. I'm 3 days out from my last appointment and another fingernail has craggy nail polish at the bottom, but I hope it's something I can mention next time I visit. This place is OK with me.
