Grilled cheese and their " house fries???"

Atmosphere was inviting, friendly, definitely a good vibe for a local spot. Great for breakfast and lunch. Prices are good. I ordered their Grilled cheese with whole wheat bread and tomatoes and basil amd pesto sauce, delicious. Service is just OK. My server was not very knowledgeable of menu. I asked what are my side choices, he said fruit, salad, or French fries. When I asked what is on the salad he hesitated, so I just ordered fries. When my plate came out it had roasted potatoes. I told him I ordered fries and he said " oh yea, those ARE the house fries ... sorry " im thinking these are not fries at all. So I ate the sandwich and left the potatoes. To get to bathroom you have to walk thru the small kitchen area. Not very safe. Im glad I tried this spot, cause Im always up for trying new things, but I dont think im coming back

great neighborhood brunch spot! the food took a little longer to come out but it wasn't too bad. the crab's benedict ($20) was decent, although you could tell the crab was canned (a bit dry and flaky). the french toast orgy ($17.50) was good but the orange-spiced flavor in the french toast was completely overwhelmed by the yogurt and granola

Kate's is a neighbourhood gem. The owner and wait staff are always so friendly and welcoming. The food is great breakfast and lunch fare, creative and everything is homemade from smoothies to sausage. My new favorite is the zaatar avocado toast. It comes with 2 eggs any style, home fries and feta and olive crumbles. Delicious and perfect in every way!

Independent little diner in the Lower Haight neighborhood of San Francisco. Warm, homey atmosphere with friendly service and a budget friendly menu.

Dined as a party of 3 for Sunday breakfast recently, but have been going here for years when I lived nearby. It's a quirky restaurant (you'll have to go through the kitchen to use the restroom) with a large mural of the United States. Aside from the printed menu, make sure to check the boards above the counter for seasonal or daily specials. Service was friendly and attentive. If you like sausage, get their house made sausage patty on the side of whatever you order! Yum!

Super cute and the service is amazing! So friendly from the minute we walked in. The food was delicious! They also have a variety of fresh squeezed juices and smoothies.

I love this place so much, we came back with friends. I had the New England Flannel Hash (corned beef hash) again because it was so good last time, and it did not disappoint. My friend had the banana nut pancakes, and they were the size of the plate and did not skimp on bananas or nuts. Another friend had the Shakshuka with chicken and said it was delicious. Service is fast, and the food comes out hot. If you are in need of breakfast, would definitely recommend Kate's Kitchen.

Veggie Scramble

We went here for Sunday brunch, and were seated in less than 10 minutes. The server Melody was super friendly and was prompt at serving us. We ordered strawberry banana and lemon curd pancakes, vegetable scramble, a side of bacon and shakshuka. Everything was delicious and even the coffee was great. Not the water down diner kind!! The place is very homey and cozy. A little tight on space but the food is delicious. The service was also very friendly and we enjoyed the experience. Only small complaint is the bathroom. It could use a little update. This place is a definite gem and we will return.

Is there outside seating, and if there is, is it dog-friendly?

Yes we out side seats and we love dogs

Saturday mornings, do you need to get there really early? Elderly parents coming in to town, looking for an easy place close by to eat.

It gets really busy after 10am

How is their Eggs Benedict? Specifically, the hollandaise sauce.

House made fresh from scratch

Do they have gluten free pancakes?

Yes. Cornmeal and you have to ask for them. Biscuits too. We found them both to be really dry and didn't enjoy them.

Wayfare Tavern was founded by the celebrity chef Tyler Florence, along with other famous restaurant, such as Miller & Lux, Wayfare Tavern is serving authentic American dishes inspired by San Francisco's golden age of dining. Wayfare Tavern recently moved to the current address on Pine Street near Market Street, which is a great location for lunch and dinner options for people working in FiDi and Soma areas. The marble and wooden floor, with glamorous golden wall paper and red velvet sofas and chairs, also the floor to ceiling bar area all transport customers instantly to the splendor of early 1900s. WT Espresso Martini $16 I ordered one of my favorite cocktail, the Espresso Martini. Made with Meili Vodka, and Meletti Coffee Liqueur Espresso. Pearl Coast $11 My friend got the refreshing mocktail option. The Pearl Coast is made with rice water, cinnamon, and cream of coconut. Tasted like a summer drink in Southeast Asia. Clam Chowder $16 One of our favorite dishes was the clam chowder. The clam chowder was served with clam bellies, smoked bacon-jalapeno hushpuppies, and poured with hot and creamy chowder tableside. It was great to dip the popover into it too! Chef's Selection of West Coast Oysters $56 We got a dozen of the oysters for appetizer, came with charred lemon, giardineira mignonette, and house-made hot sauce. Some of the oysters still has tiny pieces of the shell inside. Yuzu Glazed Salmon $34 The glazed salmon was very good with crispy skin. On the side there were dashi braised cabbage, crispy garlic, and seasoned with okonomi sauce, and some sorrel. Burrata Whipped Potatoes $13 For the side, we got the burrata whipped Yukon gold potatoes, mixed with smoked olive oil. Very creamy and fresh. Churro Brûlée $13 For dessert, we chose the churro filled with rice pudding, strawberry jam, brûléed and topped with caramel gelato! This was super rich and sweet. Three people sharing was well enough.

I remember coming to Tommy's many times over the last two decades and trying everything from their oxtail stew to their meatloaf to their lasagna. Everything here is good! On my most recent visit I got to try their lamb shank with boiled potatoes and carrots. The lamb shank perfectly fell off the bone and the fat melted in your mouth. The gravy was very flavorful. The only thing I found underwhelming were the potatoes as they could've cooked a little longer. The service at the counter is always very good and quick! These guys have been working this counter for a long time. The place still feels a little like a dive bar, but that's all part of the charm of this historical eatery.

We sat down and the hostess proceeded to tell my son and I that we would need to take our hats off "in the dining room." Mind you again this is lunch, the restaurant is full of kids and tourists. Take aback a bit my son and I took our hats off to reveal the hair you would expect from 2 people that just came off a boat and a tour of Alcatraz. As she walked away we noticed another gentleman had his has on 2 tables down. We found it odd so I asked the hostess if there was a reason he was allowed to be wearing a hat. She immediately got very indignant with me and remarked "it's a request we make." To which I responded..."ok so we can wear our hats" again very rude and smug and indignant she replied "yes but my son must wear it forward and not backward." Ok so why not just make that request? But again this is tourist central, at lunch time, in a restaurant that's in my mind a marginally upscale BJs. Please get over yourself "Hillstone" We then proceeded to sit and watch a minimum of 3 women all come in with hats on of different sorts. Large brim, beret etc. NONE OF THEM had the same request made of them. Completely absurd. Ok moving on, next issue. I was already annoyed but ordered the omelette. "Cheese and herbs" were the ingredients. Ok no problem I'll ask them to add some meat or bacon to it, they have those things in other menu items, shouldn't be an issue...or so you'd think. So the waiter returns and I order the omelette and say "can you please just add some bacon to it, I see you have bacon in the salads" to which the waiter responds. "No I'm sorry we can't do it. It's a composed recipe we don't like to change, but I'll be happy to give you bacon on the side." Uh what? Your customer just requested bacon and you won't do it because you like the recipe the way it is?!?! So yah maybe they make it some special way? Ok omelette shows up and it's literally a thin rolled egg with goat cheese... bland as can be, and NO I don't want the bacon on the side. Hillstone needs to recognize it's not a high end restaurant... it's in a tourist area, and guess what. A hat is a hat... women's, men's, forward or backward and at lunch you gotta expect people to be dressed casual. You're ok with kids sitting watching cartoons full blast on cellphones, you're ok with women in tennis outfits... but somehow a nice ball cap lowers the level of your clientele? Well not to worry you definitely have one less family now that you have to worry about in your restaurant. Also as a side note... ordering a soda in a restaurant nowadays (especially one with a bar) is pretty standard fare to have refills.... Vs tiny glass bottles and $5 per refill. This place is an epic fail!! Only reason it gets 2 stars is that my son liked his salmon. That's it.
