I'm a fan of Katana! Yummy in my tummy! Great place for sushi at a convenient location. If you live anywhere in Dormont, it's a short walk away. You can't beat the all-you-can-eat sushi special that runs Sunday through Thursday for $23.95. I'm usually eating at least $30 worth of sushi (I've got a huge appetite). The staff is polite and on top of things and the food is prepared quickly. The atmosphere is clean and in the back portion of the restaurant it is fairly quiet. It can get a little rowdy in the front of the restaurant where the hibachi tables are located. Some of the cooks love an audience and put on quite a show for their customers. At times they can be loud but it's never been a problem for me. Give Katana a try when you're craving sushi! read more

The food here is very delicious, HOWEVER I have ordered delivery twice and they were extremely rude to me!! I live 3.1 miles away, which is supposed to be in there delivery range.. The first time I ordered I had tipped $20 on a $55 tab. I placed a second order a month or so later and she had told me they would not come unless I spent $60. I didn't understand why, but I was planning on spending a lot anyways. I also tipped well that time as well. I had tried to place a third order a few months later and was refused. She told me it was too far away.. I insisted it was only 3 miles, a 10 minute drive but it didn't matter. Since then I have not ordered and probably won't ever eat at the actual restaurant. Went here with a friend for the all-you-can-eat (AYCE) sushi menu and it was GREAT! We originally planned on going on Friday night but luckily found out the AYCE menu is only available SUN-THURS before we made the trip out there. A massive plus for this AYCE menu is that is includes sushimi which is the opposite of many AYCE places trying to load you up on rice. The quality of the fish was very good, I usually dont like the tuna, but the one from here was a very deep red/purple color versus the usual pink/red and tasted very good! We used to love the "all you can eat sushi" at Katana (not inexpensive, however, around $25.00 a person before beverage or tip), HOWEVER the last number of times we went we placed an order and they only made and served us a third of the order, no explanation, no apology, no informing us that they had not made all that we had ordered. When we asked the waitress she simply said "they do that sometimes." This did not only happen once, it has now happened three times with no explanation or apology, as if it was simply acceptable? Come on?!?!? The end result is that if you actually want to have all you can eat sushi plan to stay for HOURS to finally get the sushi that you should receive the first time you ordered it. I have always been a huge fan Katana to the point where I ordering from there at least once a week. About 3 weeks ago (around noon ) I placed an order totaling forty some dollars and it took almost 2hrs to be delivered. It was cold and tasted old. I live 3 to 5 mins away from this restaurant. I thought to myself things happens, i use to work in a restaurant. Well last Saturday it happened again! Now I'm starting to get upset because I'm spending close to $50 every time I order, I expect my food to be on time and hot! I ordered online. One order of Hibachi chicken. My estimate for delivery was between 45-60min. After an hour and a half, I call the restaurant to check the status of my order. The woman who answered the phone told me that it was still in the kitchen cooking. One order of hibachi chicken was still cooking 1.5hrs later. But she said that my order would be ready in 10-15min. This is my guess, they never started making my order. After I called they did. I've been there for dinner and if you've ever been to a hibachi restaurant you know that they cook it right in front of you in about 10-15min. They cook dinner for 8 in 10-15min. I ordered around 7pm and got my dinner around 9. I will never order online from there again. And I probably won't go there for dinner either based on the fact that they told me my order was still cooking and I know that was a lie. Katana gets 1 star simply because there is a hibachi chef there that is hilarious. That star is for him. read more

I visiting my friend Kris in Pittsburgh. Kris insisted having dinner at Katana.I was so impressed this place is comfortable. And they have happy hours from Sunday to thrusday, this is a great deal if you like drink you can't missed the happy hour. So we came to this place the sushi rolls really catch my eyes I have been to other places in Pittsburgh, they don't have many special rolls however katana has more choices. The sushi chef recommend their special madai it's kind of fish. Not gonna lie the fish was tasty. I think people should try this new place. I have been here twice last time I came with my parents because they love the seafood combination in katana. Everything is wonderful. Great atmosphere, service and food! I was really surprised how nicely they fixed up the the building. They have hibachi, sushi bar and regular tables. The hibachi was excellent, generous portions, great showman ship and reasonably priced. On Sundays, they offer buy 2 hibachi meals get a kids hibachi free. They also run nice happy hour specials throughout the week. I hope that people start discovering this place before it is too late! read more

The food here is good and I like it. However I ordered delivery on a Wednesday night at 5:40. I was told delivery between 6:40-6:50. At 7:00 I got an alert to my phone the my food was delivered. So I called the restaurant to tell them that no one has delivered my food like the alert said. I was told it wasn't delivered yet and that the driver was on his way now. Walked in and the lady couldn't understand me ...I ordered plain chicken and broccoli-no other vegetables- and white rice...then I wanted to eat there-food came in to go bag- when I asked for a fork she gave me chopsticks... again I asked for a fork and she gave me plastic fork -next I asked for a plate and she acted like it was too much trouble to get me a plate or worse that it was costing her money precious dollars to have to give me a plate which she would have to wash later... worst place I've ever eaten... This is the third time now that we ordered to our business and have been told 45 min, we are lucky if they come in an hour and a half! One time was pushing 2 hours! I gave this place 2 chances. i love japanese food and really wanted to love this place because it is close to home. I was underwhelmed the first time and disgusted the second time. the food was tasteless and not what the menu stated. Soba noodles are not white, they are buckwheat and are beige at the lightest and brown at the darkest. I've been waiting to write a review until I'd eaten here a few times. After eating both in the restaurant and ordering online, I can confidently say that this place has the worst service in Pittsburgh. First, if you order online: expect to wait more than 90 minutes. No matter what day of the week, you will wait an unacceptable length of time. And if you call, you will be greeted by a rude, inconsiderate hostess who tells you "you haven't been waiting that long," even though the app sent you a confirmation email 90 minutes prior. My delivery service tonight topped it off- after waiting TWO HOURS for the food I ordered, I called and was told that my driver had already been there, tried to call me, and left. First, I was here the whole time- there is no way I missed the delivery. Second, they absolutely did not try to call, as I had no missed calls on my phone. What most likely happened is that I ordered online and they didn't see my order or forgot about it, then told me I was lying to try to hide their mistake. The service, attitude of the staff, and delivery quality is miserable. Blaming their customers for their inadequacy is a terrible business model. As for eating in the restaurant, they do not have well-trainer servers who know the menu. Each time I ate there, there was a new employee who told me she'd "just started." It seems as though they cannot keep a reliable staff of servers, for whatever reason. You'll wait a long time and receive, at best, sub par service. Not recommended. My husband and I went here for lunch today (Saturday) and had a really good experience. The place was empty but they had only been open for an hour. We got the beef negimaki and it was awesome! If you're trying to order via Grub Hub or any type of delivery for that matter then please rethink your decision. Last night I tried ordering from Katan on Grubhub. I placed my order at 8:15 pm on a Sunday through the Grub Hub app and expected about an hour delivery time even though I only live a mile away. At 9:45 pm I still had not received my food and when I tried to call the restaurant, they were closed! Apparently they close at 9 pm on Sunday's and decided not to fulfill my order but was ok with keeping the money that I paid for it. This is not the first time either that I've had terrible delivery service with Katana. I wanted to try again though because I figured maybe it was just a bad day for them last time. Nope. Either your food arrives an hour and a half later and is cold, or you don't get it at all. Plus the food isn't that great to begin with. My boyfriend and I went here for all you can eat sushi on Thursday. There were about 4 or 5 tables in the entire restaurant, most of which were doing the all you can eat option. The waitress prefaced our experience with the fact there were only two sushi chefs so there was definitely going to be a wait. We sat down at 7:40 and ordered by 7:55. We received miso soup promptly. We did not get any other food until at least 8:45. Then we waited for the remaining parts of our order which the waitress eventually admitted had been given to another table by mistake. Keep in mind, we only had soup, an order of crab Rangoon, a single roll and two pieces of eel sashimi by 9:15. We asked if we could just pay and leave, we didn't want the rest of the order. The waitress said she felt bad and didn't want us to pay so she had to talk to a manager, which we did not want to pay $50 for less than $50 worth of food. She came back over with the bill and explained that they would let us take the food to go because they were already working on the remaining roll and three pieces of sashimi.. the bill was the full price. We paid and left and will not be back. They cannot support their all you can eat sushi crowd (all of 5 tables) and apparently do not care. The worst dining experience I've ever had. The only reason I give it a star is because the sushi quality wasn't bad and the waitress seemed sincere. read more

I love trying out a new place for sushi but I always check the condition of the fish in the display. It seemed fresh so we gave it a shot. The best...maybe not, but if you need a sushi fix without breaking the bank stop on in.The all-you-can-eat sushi is great! Even if your not a 100% sushi eater you can choose appetizers too and rolls. The knife work on some pieces were okay and some were hacked. Why should I complain the fish was fresh and the price was good. Sushi is meant to be a single bite that melts in your mouth but I noticed most Pittsburgh sushi consumers enjoy the hunk of fish on top. Katana at least made it in the middle. Not too much fish or too much rice. Service could've of been more attentive when it came to drinks. Seems like the servers like to socialize a little too much. I'm not afraid to interrupt their conversation if I need something but at least they were pleasant when I did. read more

Food was great, but with 4 people and a $98 bill they would not accept the groupon the night it was expiring, because one other person got the Sushi special for $23.95. $23.95 is not a cheap special, and with 2 - $10 corking fees on 2 bottles of wine they said they are loosing money. I came to Katana for the first time last Friday, January 2nd. There were 4 people in my party. We made a reservation for the Hibachi. We were seated immediately. Our waitress came over and got our drink orders and came back with them fairly promptly. Next, she took our food orders. I personally don't like hibachi so I wanted to order Basil Noodles. I was informed that those weren't available so I ordered Lo Mein instead. The salads were brought out quickly by another member of your wait staff. This waitress was asked by multiple people for refills and chopsticks since our waitress had disappeared. Our chef, Clint, was AWESOME! Very funny guy. Very talkative. And the 3 other people in my group that got hibachi were very happy with their meals. During the "hibachi show" put on by Clint, our waitress came back to the table to check drinks for 5 of the other patrons at our table and one member of our group but never the 3 remaining. Not once did she try to offer us another beverage or just check to make sure we were ok(and we were the only people at the table having alcoholic beverages)! The hibachi show finished and most people at the table were nearly done with their meals and my lo mein had yet to be seen. Clint was concerned and tried to ask the girl that was at the front counter about it but she offered no assistance. Finally our waitress came over and I had to motion her over to me as she was ignoring me! She said, Oh! Your food will be done soon! And then she go away from us as quick as possible. Did she go check on my food in the kitchen? Nope! To add insult to injury, she went to the hibachi table next to us to check on their drinks. Another 10 minutes go by and everyone is done with their food and mine finally comes out. When she puts the food down and 3 of us asked for more drinks since we finally had her. She came back over with our drinks. I ate BY MYSELF. Then asked for our bill. I HAD TO SAY SOMETHING ABOUT OUR SERVICE. I am NOT one of THOSE people. But, it was just not acceptable. She said, sorry after she listed a bunch of excuses as to why my food took so long. And I said ok, but you never checked on our drinks. She offered to take $5 off the bill. I would have expected a little more than that. Overall, the food was good but the service was seriously disappointing! I would give 4 Stars to the food and the Chef, Clint.
