Kashin, not "Caution", was about a third of a mile away from Regal Stm 20. I gave it 3/5 stars because we were clearly seated before 3 other tables, but their orders were taken and received before we could get our server to our table. I'm really trying to give the server the benefit of the doubt, but in a restaurant that only has 10 tables you can't say you lost track of your tables. I do however, like the ambiance that the restaurant brings and how fast we get our food, but customer service comes first. As far as the food goes, my wife ordered the chicken teriyaki served on the hot skillet, I had the oyako-don (diced chicken with veggies and an egg all over rice) and my daughter had the katsu-don (fried chicken cutlet with veggies served over rice). Each meal was okay, good portion to the price, but super light on the seasoning. The food to me was alright, just a little too bland. The restaurant looks aesthetically nice and feels authentic. But the MAJOR problem with this restaurant is that I caught food poisoning. I ordered the Assorted Tempura and the food didn't taste fresh. My friend who was also there noticed that their salmon did not taste fresh too. Later that night, I had the worst stomach ache and cramps which led to being on the toilet all night and throwing up. I looked on the background on this restaurant and noticed they had 5 Health Code Violations. Overall, I would be wary with this restaraunt. read more

This was our 2nd time here. The first time it was good no issues but this time we won't return. We had reservations and were seated within 15 minutes. We sat at the table for over an hour before our cook showed up. The food wasn't that great, the waitress barely came back for drink refills and the portions were smaller. Service was fast and friendly. Nice to see a Japanese waitress in a kimono and serving some Japanese customers...hearing all the Japanese conversations in the background added to the ambiance. Avocado sushi tasted ok, but the rice was a tad too mushy for me. Green tea was nice and hot, chicken katsu was fine but nothing special. I adore Kashin!! Just another lovely restaurant hidden in a strip mall. Located beside Cold Stone, Coffee and Crepes, and Tillys in Cary, you may not notice this place, but it is definitely worth it. I always get the soba soup with tofu and spice it up with the togarashi. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant is small so it is always quiet. The food is so so good. read more

The first Japanese place I went too that I said, "Holy crap. This is amazing sushi. I imagine it's the best sushi this side of Japan." Then I went to Japan and found IDENTICALLY DELICIOUS sushi. I was indeed correct in my assessment. Kashin has never let me down, and other restaurants pale in comparison. Even in other states, I have never found a sushi place as consistently delicious. The atmosphere's nice, romantic in some corners. The sushi guy will talk to you if you're one of those "sushi loners." You know, the mysterious sashimi type. The ginger salad and miso soup is delicious, too. Other dishes are also pretty tasty, but always get the dynamite roll and maybe some gyoza appetizers. Amazing sushi. The rice was even done correctly. It also takes balls to put ramen on the menu when Americans have such a "broke college kid" stereotype attached to it, but really good! Also, the best (and I've eaten your AND my fair share of it) shrimp shumai I've ever had. I've never been to Japan, like some of the reviewers, but for my money a place that can make good sushi, wonderful ramen and shumai that taste like heaven filled shrimp pillows of goodness - definitely deserves a visit (or six). After looking at the mediocre reviews for this place, I thought it was my duty to give Kashin some love! So today I ate lunch here for the second time. I didn't have the sushi here either time so I can't comment on it - other than what I saw others eating looked good. To find out what makes this place special for me requires taking a closer look at the menu..... On the back of the menu you will find a real Japanese treat that is rarely found in Japanese restaurants in America - namely RAMEN!!! Why this stuff is so hard to find is beyond me - it is a staple in Japan and you can hardly walk a street block in Tokyo without finding Ramen. They have two kinds on the menu - Shoyou (Soy sauce) and Miso ramen. I've tried both now and they are equally nice. The broth is full of flavor and the noodles are fresh and chewy. They give you a nice dry pepper mix with black sesame seed blend to add spice to your taste. Just add a little if you don't like spicy! Mmmmm yummy! The Ramen here is reason enough to try this place. If you have never had real Ramen, then you gotta give it a try! Expect an experience that can't be matched by anything found in a package. I'll definitely be back for more! read more

In need of a little nourishment before heading off to the next shop, I spied Kashin from the Yelp app. I'd been craving sushi for months and the reviews sounded great, so my husband and I ducked into Kashin for some long-awaited sushi. The decor is dark and has a few cool 'very japanese' bits on the walls. There is a small tatami room and our waitress was dressed in a cute yukata, tabi socks and sandals... both I consider generally good signs for good sushi to come. Alas, the food was only merely OK (bland, gummy rice, super-salty sauces and boring rolls) and the service was...unsatisfactory. We were starving and not only was the service was slooooow (everything seemed to take twice as long as expected), the appetizer we ordered never came. At least it wasn't on the bill! I'm glad there's a sushi option in Cary Crossroads, but not sure I would return to give them a second chance (not being close enough to be a regular). This is the place that I first fell in love with sushi. My Dad used to take us here when we were in high school. It had been years since I had last visited up until recently. I'm not sure why... I guess so many sushi restaurants started popping up in the area that we just branched out and started trying other places. Anyway, my brother and I decided to meet here for dinner and see if it was still the way we remembered it. Years later, the décor has remained mostly the same with a few small changes here and there. I am not sure if it is still under the same ownership as I didn't see any of the same people working there (then again, as I said it had been years). The sushi is still fantastic. Its fresh and the sushi rolls are a little more interesting than you find in some other places. They also have great appetizers and desserts. We usually stop by on weeknights and it is very quiet with only a few other tables or a couple people at the sushi bar. We've been back three times now in the past couple of months and will continue to go. I love this place. I think the quality of the food is still better than a lot of sushi restaurants out there. The only con is that we've had the same server every time and she always seems kind of perturbed. The service is fine, she just gives out this annoyed vibe. This was a tough one for me to rate. I'd go back and give them another chance, but only after I've checked out lots of other sushi places. Had lunch there today, I ordered the sushi lunch combo. Miso soup was just ok. Salad was drowning in dressing. I had 6 pieces of nigiri (chef's choice) and a cucumber roll. The roll was fine, it's hard to be picky about something as simple as a cucumber roll, though I would have preferred the cucumber not to have been in such big chunks. Less enjoyable of a mouth feel that way. 4 of the nigiri pieces were tasty and fine. But one was so overloaded with wasabi that it felt like I'd thrown a grenade into my mouth. It seriously burned my nose and throat and completely overwhelmed the taste of the fish. I've never had that happen before. And the last piece of nigiri was a huge piece of Krab. I can deal with fake crab the rare occasions I have a piece of someone's California roll, but a big chunk of it is incredibly unappealing. I was seriously disappointed that this was one of the pieces they chose to serve. Another not-so-great first for me. My husband got the seafood tempura and it was just ok, could have been crispier. read more

I hate to admit that I have finally found a sushi place that gives my hometown favorite (New Zealand Cafe in Charlotte) a run for its money. This place has an authentic atmosphere that is better than ANY sushi dive I've eaten at prior. The sushi chef Paul took great pride in his creations as he delivered my Toro, uni and signature Kashin roll. The toro was buttery and tender as expected and sliced thick, the uni melted in my mouth with an amazing after taste. The Kashin roll was thick slabs of Unagi wrapped with egg omelette, Japanese basil and smelt roe topped with sweet eel sauce. No wonder they named this roll after the restaurant! Was visiting in from the DC area, and a friend took us to Kashin. The food and service was spectacular! They have a wide variety of dishes- which is awesome because I never get to see some of these items being offered in US Japanese restaurants. The atmosphere was cozy and I really enjoyed how one part of the interior design included a traditional Japanese low-table seating area. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. I've been walking right past this place for over a year now, patronizing other food establishments in the shopping center. I'd had a ho-hum experience with the other "Asian bistro" in the area and really wanted sushi, so I'm glad I Yelped around and found Kashin. The atmosphere and service is much more in line with what I want in a Japanese restaurant; quiet and well-lit with attentive service, pretty decorations, and music at the perfect level to be able to talk over. The sushi was awesome. The Kashin Roll is especially good, and the boyfriend said the Spider Roll was one of the best he's ever had (and I'd have to agree). I saved my unagi (freshwater eel) piece for last, and it was still crispy on the bottom and very sweet and delicious. My favorite! I do sort of wish they had sushi specials, but considering the sushi here is 10X better than down the street, I'm more than happy to come back even if I don't get my Philadelphia roll for free. The best sushi experience I have had in Raleigh thus far and I have tried many many places. Kashin is kinda hidden in the Cary Crossroads strip mall (but hidden gems are wonderful). The sushi was fresh, nicely presented and incredibly tasty! The staff was welcoming and friendly. Since it is a very tiny restaurant it can get pretty busy--quickly. We have been long time fans of Kashin - its probably the best place to get sushi in the triangle. They have a very cool side room where you can have private meals, with a traditional japanese table set low to the ground... But its great because the floor is actually recessed below the table so you can just sit normally at the table instead of cramping up your legs! My brother had his graduation dinner there and they gave us wonderful service. The sushi is amazing and always very fresh. Kashin is a very authentic Japanese experience - don't forget that they also have a wide variety of very tasty non-sushi menu items. Sushi, raw fish served with minimalistic additions, is exactly what you get. This restaurant is not as Americanized as most other local Sushi places, and I love it. If you are looking for Americanized sauces with cream cheese etc, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for lots of fried things in your rolls, again, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for authentic Japanese sushi prepared by a chef that has apprenticed for over 10 years in Japan and serves Sushi as authentic as it comes, this IS the place for you. I have yet to eat sushi at the highly rated places in Raleigh that serves fish as fresh or as high quality as Kashin. Their Nigiri (sushi on a ball of rice, not a roll) and Sashimi (just the fish, no rice or roll) are the best. If its your first time eating sushi, you should probably go with the Blue Fin Tuna and the White Tuna. If you are feeling brave, try the Unagi, its delicious (Oishii). If you want to try real Shabashabu (Japanese style fondue, delicious too) you can call them in advance and they can make it for you or a group of people. Don't go to the restaurant called Shabashabu, thats like going to a steak restaurant and getting served hot dogs. Give Kashin a try, appreciate sushi the way it was created centuries ago in Japan. read more

I went to Kashin for lunch with a friend, and it was an amazing experience. The restaurant was filled with people who regularly went there for lunch, yet we were seated and served rather quickly. My friend (who had been to Japan) was amazed at some of the menu items, as he had not been able to find a restaurant that had some of these items outside of Japan. We had ordered several pieces of sushi (Fatty Tuna, yellow tail, Salmon, Tamago), Una-don for myself and Katsu-don for my friend. The yellow tail and salmon were nice and tender, and the fatty tuna they served had an amazing flavor to it. The sushi rice was flavorful, the ginger dressing on our dressing was spicy (which I loved), and the Una-don I ate was wonderful! My friend enjoyed their Katsu-don, saying the broth had a wonderful, savory flavor to it. If you are near Crossroads Boulevard and looking for some amazing Japanese food, I would recommend this place. Kashin is small, intimate, and like a best kept secret in Cary. If I had known about this place when I first moved to North Carolina, I would have gone there more often! read more
