I honestly almost left, but I decided to stick it out. Service was fine, fast and efficient on a busy day, nothing bad or good about it. We ordered ramen, tempura and bao buns. Evening was really good. Not mind blowing, but not bad by any means. Unfortunately, it was just so hot in the restaurant that I was more focused on eating and getting out than slowly enjoying my food. Not sure if it was just a one off, but I doubt I'll be going back just because of his warm it was in the restaurant. Maybe I'll go back in the winter. Give them a try, the food was good!

Just as a heads up, some of the parking is paid by the hour. Just flagging to help avoid any parking tickets. Walking into the restaurant there are two doors when you walk through the first door. One door will lead you to m sushi and the other will lead you to the sister restaurant m tempura. We went with m sushi this time, however I definitely need to try m tempura. The restaurant feels moody, upscale and intimate. To start the meal I ordered a miso soup while looking through the menu. For starters we ordered the Crispy Rice (Spicy tuna, inari, kizami wasabi, mustard truffle soy sauce, yuzu tobiko, microgreens & avocado) and the Tuna Nigiri Trio (Akami, chutoro, otoro topped with caviar). Both starters were excellent and these are must orders. For entrees we just split a couple rolls: 1) the Truffle Seared Tuna (Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, seared bluefin tuna, "O" sauce, soy glaze, masago, chopped chives) and 2) the "M" Special (Tempura shrimp, cucumber, avocado, spicy tuna, seared scallops, shiso, masago, chives, fried shallots, calamansi curd, soy glaze). Both rolls were excellent, tasted fresh, and the flavors were well balanced. Overall, M Sushi is still my favorite sushi restaurant in the NC triangle for the quality of food and overall ambiance/experience. I highly recommend checking out M Sushi if you are in the Fenton area.

I ordered the Chirashi combo, it comes with miso soup. The chirashi presentation is great, it comes with a few pieces salmon, hamachi, amberjack or madai, akami, a small scoop of ikura on top, they throw in a few pieces that I think maybe hohoniku, base on the marbling and texture. All over a bed of shredded egg and rice. The fish choice is definitely more interesting than other Chirashi I had recently, but the rice got too much vinegar that made the rice flavor overwhelming to enjoy the rice and fish together. My bold guess is whatever they put on the bowl is whatever they have and not used for omakase menu. I think if anyone is serious about Japanese food and don't mind price tag, give a try here.

The soy sauce was fresh too, not like it had been sitting untouched in a bottle for months. I also ordered the thai fried rice with shrimp, which was a good price and was aromatic. We were offered refills at least 3 times which I always greatly appreciate and feel is an important barometer of caring that your customers are there! Lovely stop.

I ordered the sushi combo (6 pieces of nigiri and a Sushi Mon hand roll) with a miso soup. The miso soup was a pleasant surprise and was delicious quite filling as it contained cabbage, salmon, and mushrooms. The 6 pieces Nigiri was also well balanced and had a good selection of sushi (amberjack, salmon belly, cooked shrimp, etc.). The Sushi Mon hand roll was good but had a bit of heat to it. The nigiri pieces seem noticeably smaller, and the fish hasn't been as fresh as it used to be. We also ordered the shrimp tempura on one visit, but had to send it back because it tasted and looked clearly store-bought. For the prices, we expect a much higher level of quality. Even the small details are frustrating. The Kizami wasabi is $3, but the portion is so small that it doesn't last through an entire order. What has been most disappointing, though, is the overall experience. The owner often appears annoyed or bothered by guests coming in, with the exception of a select few who seem to receive a much warmer welcome. That makes for an uncomfortable dining experience. It's disappointing to leave this review because we genuinely loved Akami and have supported the restaurant many times. We hope they can get back to the quality and experience that originally made us such loyal customers.
