Love this place. Close by my work and Tom, the owner, seems to be one of those mechanics who wants to build his business, rather than build his bank account. I've only visited once, but the whole vibe here is easy-going - after all, the name of the business is "karma," right? They didn't have the correct filter for my car, so it took him longer than he expected - to run and get the correct filter. Tom offered to loan me a car so I could get back to work! Very reasonable price for my oil change - much less than I typically pay at one of those chain places. I think I've found my new mechanic. read more

I requested a quote to get my vehicle repaired. I was told I would hear from Tom within a couple days. 4 days later I had to call numerous times to get ahold of him. When he finally answered I was told that the vehicle was getting an alignment. I had asked for a quote. When I went to pick up my vehicle I was told the total would be $600+ and they needed to order a part to fix the issue I had originally requested the quote for. Wanting to get the vehicle fixed I paid the amount due. I was told to bring the vehicle back the following week when the part arrived. I had my wife bring the truck back and she was told it would be done that afternoon. We didn't hear back from him for 3 days. When he finally answered the phone we were told that he ordered the wrong part. This happened 2 additional times. I was given excuses about the wrong part because my vehicle has all the bells and whistles. I do not recommend this shop. They do not communicate and they try to cut corners to get the cheaper price. When I asked if I could come and pick up my vehicle so my wife could drive to work I was then given attitude and told to find another shop. I understand the frustration of not getting what was ordered. I was clear when I dropped the vehicle off and told him when I needed it back. Each time I waited 2 additional days before going to pick up my vehicle. He didn't seem to understand that this was my wife's only vehicle. We have kids to pick up and work to make it to. I communicated all of my requests and needs ahead of time. He couldn't even pick up the phone to communicate ANYTHING. I had to continuously call and hope he would answer the phone. Bottom line, if you have more than enough money to get your car fixed and can wait multiple days without any updates, this is definitely your shop! Otherwise, go to a shop that is organized and communicates with their customers. This started in December, and it is now April. Now I have to start over with another shop. I think these guys are great. Real honest people, they did research on why my particular car might have certain troubles before looking at it. They called me to show up the next day and they showed me what was happening right away underneath my car. The dealership where I originally bought my car was about to charge me upwards of $3700 but I took it to these guys and they showed me what was really the problem. Basically the dealership tried to incorrectly diagnose my car so they can call it an engine problem when really, it was just a valve leak which was $200 fix. I even contemplated selling my car at the dealership and purchase a new one at that price they were trying to fix my car. That would've locked me in for losing my car under-value and additional monthly payments in a new car. I had additional work and they quoted me 50% what the dealership was going to charge me and 80%-90% of that charge was parts (catalytic converter). Going to these guys. They weren't pushy at all, even told me that I can run the car for a lot longer because my problems aren't even major. I'm definitely going to save up and go to these guys to get my car fixed. I'm glad I don't have to lose my car that I bought new from that dealership 7 years ago when I just broke 115k miles. read more

A mechanic that doesn't try to screw you over?! Yes, that actually exists in this world! The radiator went out in my swagga' wagon, so I had it towed to Karmachanics. When Tom told me I was going to need a new radiator, I was a bit nervous to find out what it was going to cost. When Tom told me it was going to be approximately $200, I was a bit confused. "Why so inexpensive?" I asked. He told me that he doesn't mark up parts and he only charges $40 (or maybe it's $45) and hour for labor. While waiting in his office for the rental car company to show up, I decided to call my old mechanic to see what they charged for labor--$102.25 an hour!!! I've been there twice so far and Tom has taken good care of us. It's nice not to have that sick feeling in your stomach when you're waiting to hear what the trip to the mechanic is going to cost. read more

1st review I've ever written b/c Tom is that good! After I filled my tank w/ gas, my suv wouldn't start. I thought it was my battery but someone said it sounded more like a fuel pump issue. I called around and got a few numbers from people. Like Jason A. said, Karmachanics is known by word of my mouth. One of my friends has gone to him for years. Tom gave me a quote: between $375-400 (which was HALF of what one guy quoted me). I was also stuck at that gas station. Tom knew of a good towing company (Jorge Towing)... Ah know, I should've gotten AAA like the rest of the driving population! Anyways, Jorge was very helpful and gave a flat rate of $70 compared to the others who gave me quotes of hook up, flat bed, then $3 per mile. What the~? So Jorge was phenomenal too. Tom said the suv would be ready by Friday at 7pm (the suv was towed in Wednesday NIGHT at 7 pm). He called me on Thursday afternoon and said the suv was ready. Tom knows he has the best price in town and he said the yoga peeps who own the building he works out of (in conjunction to his karma philosophy) has kind of a set limit of how much should be charged to customers. Talk about accountability. Tom is just an all around honest, down to earth, and good guy. I think that's a little hard to come by in the auto industry or any industry for that matter. I've been here a few times over the past couple of years and have had $2-3k worth of word done over that time including brakes, a fuel pump, control arms, and oil changes. I came back because of past experiences but my last visit will certainly be my last time going there. They had my car for two weeks and I had to bring it back twice after bringing it home because it ran worse than when it was initially dropped off. The second time I dropped it off he sent it to another shop for a diagnostic and they diagnosed that he put on the wrong parts and replaced an unnecessary part as well. He left it with them to fix correctly and told me that he would refund me but that I would need to pick my car up at the other shop and pay them for their work. After picking up my car from the other shop I drove over to Karmachanics to get my refund and Tom turned into an instant jerk when he wrote me a check. Accusing me of getting free work from him and telling me to never come back. I got ZERO free work from him! Another shop fixed his errors which Tom himself told me he would reimburse me for and he had the nerve to place his frustrations on me. I absolutely lost money by taking my car to him! I had to pay another shop that he sent my car to fix his work and I was only reimbursed for the faulty work done, which should be expected. read more

These guys are great. I've had them replace my radiator, which was way cheaper than anywhere else I checked and they did a great job. I brought my pathfinder in to replace the bearings on my front axel, which is what I thought was wrong. When I picked it up he informed me I don't have bearings (I know little to nothing about cars)I have some other cv axle something... He fixed the problem and it was $60 cheaper. Karmachanics, it is not normal for me to put a bad review. I guess I have to put a bad review because it is really necessary. I am very disappointed with this place. Our SUV have some issues that needs to be fixed. we explained everything to the man on the phone. By the way, I wish I know his name. But I can describe you what he looks like. He is the older man (Age- 70s) and his hair is gray. He also has the gray mustache. He wears the glasses too. That man said our suv needs to stay here for overnight, so he can check up with our suv on the next day. He told us that he will call us back on the next day. On the next day, he didnt call us back. We gave him some time because we aware that he was busy with fixings cars. After that day, still no call from him. we decided to call him to see whats up. He didnt answer us back few times. We wanted to leave a message for him but there was no leave a message. After hours later we called him again. Finally he answered us. He explained us about our SUV issues for very for the short time and he said our SUV will be ready on next week. He didnt say which day. That happens was on last Friday. This morning (Sunday) we wanted to ask him one question about SUV. We called him today. He answered us. Suddenly he yelled at us for calling him for five times. And he yelled at us for ask him too many questions. He was so rude to us on the phone. Of course we feel uncomfortable. We wanted our suv back and dont want to him fix our SUV. We cant trust him. We went to that place to got our SUV back immediately! We showed up and that man was there. He acted like nothing happened. This is not okay. And not only that, we are deaf. He was not friendly with us just because we are deaf. He has no patience with us. We will never go back to Karmachanics. NEVER AGAIN! We are not recommending you to go that place. That man doesn't deserve it. He needs to fix his stinky attitude. He needs to practice to think twice before he says something. He could have done better than that. I'd been told by a couple of chains that my rear brakes needed replacing, but really didn't trust them to do the work. I ran across Karmachanics here on Yelp while searching for someone and I'm SO glad I did. I contacted Tom, asked that he replace the rear brakes and do an oil change, and dropped the car off on a Thursday evening. On Friday Tom called asking why I was asking to have the rear brakes replaced when THEY WERE PERFECTLY FINE! Needless to say, I only had them do an oil change and a tire rotation and will be having him replace the much needed timing belt as well in the very near future. Simply because he explained his cost and it was about a fifth of what I'd been quoted earlier. Tom believes that the intentions behind his actions have consequences - both good and bad. I rarely see that in my everyday encounters and sadly, NEVER in a mechanic. This man has my business and I'll gladly work around his busy schedule when it comes to my car. I never write reviews, but people need to know about how great this place is. Tom goes above and beyond to find parts at the most affordable cost like no mechanic I have ever met. Today I went in to have my breaks and oil serviced. I also have an issue with my trunk button causing it not to open. where my He told me I really only needed an oil change and my breaks still had a bit of life in them. As a 25 yr old female living alone, my money is pretty tight. Tom has always been honest with me, which means a lot. The trunk part was $400 everywhere I looked and Tom found found it for $125! The labor pricing is incredibly reasonable and he's fixing my trunk the very next day after finding the part. I used a different mechanic once and he fixed my vehicle incorrectly. Tom actually gave me a discount because the guy would not refund my money. I am so appreciative of this place and all the wonderful people who work here. I made an appointment for a front brake job and a new headlight. After dropping it off in the morning. I was told it would be ready the next day in the morning or afternoon. The next day came and I never got a phone call. I called and was told that my car would now be ready between 1pm and 2pm. I took an uber there and got there about 2:30pm. I was told again that it would now take an additional hour to work on my headlights (front brakes were done). I was upset because I was told that my car would be ready earlier, and had other plans later. Tom was very upset. He then angrily put the headlight back together, and I could take it away as is. Since I needed my car, I said ok. Then he told me that he would only accept cash. He was very unprofessional, rude and angry. I am a young women, and it was very uncomfortable to be alone in this out of the way garage with an angry man who would not give me my car back. Possibly facing the prospect of having to walk a long distance to an ATM for cash. I tried talking to him but he stormed off and refused to listen to me. I finally got him to let me take my car as long as I left my license with him while I go to a near by ATM to get cash. I ended up paying for my front brakes and left. He never finished doing my headlights and brake light. Maybe it was too hard for him to do? I would recommend against any women going to this shop. Tom is again, very unprofessional, and an angry man. He is not that great of a mechanic and can't seem to get things done in a timely manner. So if you are ok with leaving your car for a few days, to a week for simple services, think twice before going. Please, be careful if you are going alone! read more

I was referred to Tom buy a friend and it was a huge blessing! My radiator was shot, I needed new cam shaft sensors and I needed a new motor mount. I had an estimate done at Brakes Plus for over $1100. I decided to look elsewhere and I'm glad I did. Tom found the cheapest parts (still good quality, since he doesn't mark them), and charges between $40-$45 an hour for labor. My car has been running great ever since. No complaints whatsoever! My car slid into a curb during a recent ice storm. After taking my car in for an estimate at another local car repair shop, I suffered a little bit of sticker shock for the repair. Luckily, I decided to get a second opinion from Tom at Karmachanics. He managed to quote me a price that was one third of what the other shop quoted. Normally, a suspiciously low quote would raise flags about quality. However, not here. I spoke to Tom and he has been in business at this location for 20+ years, doesn't mark up part cost and keeps his labor cost low. He then passes the savings onto the customer. A person who runs a quality business like this is NOT common and is greatly appreciated by the community. Keep it up Tom. I will be coming back! read more

This place is so legit, that it inspired me to register for Yelp and write my first review. I know it's rare, but this place is the real deal for auto repair in Denver. Tom is a throw back business owner. Keep it simple, keep costs down, and pass it on to you, the consumer. My only fear in writing a good review is that too many people will find out about Karmechanics - and that somehow it will lose its current ways! (hopefully not) This business treats you fair. Tom, the business owner, will find a good way to fix your car without running up the bill. If there is a used part available, he can find it. I read the review of someone else on Yelp of Tom that rated him a 1 star because he didn't turn the repair around quick enough. I thought this wasn't fair to the type of business that he runs, and was inspired to write my own review. Realistically, don't expect incredible turnarounds time wise. Think of the service industry triangle: cheap, good, and fast. Pick 2 out of 3, right? So, Tom is good and cheap, but sometimes you have to chill a little on timing. Plan an extra day or two during the repair cycle - the fair pricing more than makes up for it. Tom also operates a Yoga and Meditation studio on the front side of his auto mechanic business. Hence, the name of the auto repair business, and the philosophy of the auto repair business. Tom is a chill guy - don't expect some salesman with slick lines. This place was great....my rear windshield wiper got damaged and wasn't working. I was expecting to pay 200-300 to get it fixed. A gentleman asked me to bring it in the next day...he popped open the cover, grabbed a wrench and tightened the bolt. I felt like an idiot, even I could have fixed that if I'd tried. He was very gracious and sent me on my way. I'll be back as a paying customer for sure. I will say that some additional signage as far as where to enter/office would be nice. read more

UPDATE May 2013. Intake Manifold now broken as well. Car died when picking up my son from school yesterday, had to leave it at the school, will not start. I have only put maybe 13,000 miles total on this car in the year and a half I've owned it, so if I drove it more often, this problem would have most likely surfaced earlier. I find it hard to believe all these wonderful reviews, How is it I'm the only one who got screwed by this guy??!! After reading all the wonderful reviews, I thought this was the right choice for me. I didn't have a regular place to take my car and how do you know who you can trust in this type of business??? I'm a single mom on a limited income with 3 kids to get to and from school. Their schools are about 7 miles round trip from my house. My car wouldn't start one Friday morning. Found this place, called and talked to a guy who said he could take care of it, I believe it was the owner, don't remember his name, this was several months ago. Paid to have it towed there, that morning, about 3 miles or so from my house. He calls me later and tells me that it's the intake manifold and he should have the car to me by tomorrow, Saturday. I'm pleased that they even work on Saturdays. Next day, he calls and says that he wasn't able to find one around here and has to get it from out of town. Says the car should be ready within a few hours after he gets it delivered. I mention to him that the wiper washers weren't spraying and he says he'll check that out too. Monday he says that he got the part and it should be ready that day. I have three kids to get to school and I mention that. I tell him I may have to rent a car but that would be really expensive, don't know how I'd afford it. He says he'll get it done asap. The next day, I call. Usually he answers every time I call, but this time, no answer. I call again. And again, and again...is this guy avoiding me? He said he'd have my car ready and now it's been 3.5 days that he's had my car and now I can't even get a hold of him! So I call from my home phone, he picks up right away and when I tell him who I am he starts YELLING at me and telling me he will have it ready when he can and tells me not to rush him! I'm kinda scared now, my car is at the mercy of this man, so I calmly tell him I'm sorry and I just wanted to know when my car would be ready and if he could call me then. I left him alone after that. The next afternoon, he called and said he'd fixed the intake manifold and the washer fluid pump was replaced and it was ready. I found a ride to go pick it up. The repairs cost just under $500, and 6 days without my car! A couple months later, my wiper washers stopped working. They barely sprayed after he "fixed" them, then one day they just didn't spray at all anymore. I thought my reservoir was empty and finally bought some more washer fluid but when I went to put some in, it was still full, obviously full. NEVER EVER GOING BACK HERE! read more

Karmachanics replaced my door lock actuator to fix the problem I was having with my key locking up in the ignition and not starting or even turning. After I picked up my vehicle it started having the same problems a couple days later. I ended up getting the issue fixed elsewhere. I called Tom, the owner, to explain the situation and ask for my money back. He told me I would have to come in to get the refund. When he gave me my refund, he threw the money on the table and walked away without saying anything. I said "Thank you, I appreciate it." His response - "Well I don't. Don't come back here again." I replied with "I sure won't!" I'm very thankful for getting my money back, but I did nothing wrong, and did not deserve to be treated that way. Everyone makes mistakes and I never acted angry about the issue, I simply wanted and deserved to get my $250 back. And now I'm not allowed to go back there?? Don't worry, Tom - I meant it when I said I won't be back. :) Go to Community Auto Repair in Wash Park - they are awesome, friendly and trustworthy! read more

The radiator in my dodge ram 2002 cracked and it was after 3pm by the time I got it to Karmachanics. Tom listened to my story of having just moved to Denver an how I had no other way to get to work. He had me up and running the same day! Not only that, he suggested a product to help with my heating problem. The qoute was WAY under (only 350) what I expected when you take into an account how he dropped everything to get me running. I had an O2 sensor that went bad and took my car to Midas to see what a chain store would price the repair at. After finding out the insane price the quoted me at I took it to Karmachanics. They were able to save me over $400. Karmachanics were extremely fair and honest. I will not be taking my vehicle to any other shop in Denver in the future. And he showed me exactly how to change the oil on out BMW which i had no idea how to do being there isnt even a dipstick on the car! I would recommend this place to anyone. So all the reviews here were outstanding, which was misleading. I needed new breaks and decided to come here. The owner was out of town for about a month. When I came to pick up the car, the mechanic who acted like he didn't speak English would not give the guy (probably a close friend of the owner running his garage while out of town, did not seem to have a clue about cars) a honest answer of how many hours he spent on my car. The receipt I received was useless. In the end, I paid over a hundred dollars for breaks that they didn't do any work to. The Honda dealership ended up telling me about a month later that my break pads were shot. I got them fixed at the dealership. They did NO work on my car and charged me for it at Karma! If I need an honest local garage I choose Hotchkiss on colfax. read more

Great service great prices! Had front end problem with my 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe. Dealership failed to spend time to figure it out. Tom drove around with me for 10 minutes to help understand/diagnose the problem late Thursday afternoon. Had the ball joint/control arm replaced and alignment done by Saturday afternoon. Spent time to find top quality Moog replacement part at good price. I'm guessing this 30 to 60 % less than dealer service. read more

Tom is amazing and so are his other employees. I know of at least two... One's name is Carlos. I consider what Tom does to follow the "Disneyland" rule where they tell you that the wait is going to be 45 minutes and you are only waiting 15 minutes so you are super happy. Tom does that with price. Very rarely has his quoted price been exact, in fact, it is usually much lower. I don't go to any other mechanic anywhere even for an oil change. I recently had to have a new engine put in my Subaru Outback. It took a while for Tom to find one but in the process he had at least two engines brought to him that he sent back because they weren't up to his standards. I was never charged a dime for the time he put into looking at those engines, only for the time he took to put my new engine in (and of course the cost of the engine). I have sent countless people his way, and I don't know how many of them actually heeded my advice but the few that I've heard back from were extremely happy. He will also be honest with you about the urgency of a repair. Sometimes you don't have the cash for the whole repair and he will let you know what he can do with what you can afford and if it will cause problems down the road. In one particular instance he let me write him a post-dated check because I needed the repair done but couldn't afford it right then. I don't know what I ever did to deserve such a great mechanic, but we all know that his Karma is unmatched for how he helps people. As another reviewer said on here... I am also a lifer. read more
