Karma cream is pretty great! They have a wide variety of pastries that are vegan and gluten free. They also have some great coffee options! Most importantly, they have ice cream! Both dairy and non dairy- and made with agave! They also have super cute toppings and sundaes if you are feeling indulgent! The space is clean, modern, and has great lighting. It is pretty small and is usually crowded with students studying. I usually get my food to go. The staff are really friendly, although the service can be slow when they are busy. I ordered the caramel cold brew and cookie ice cream and it was divine. It's literally the best vegan ice cream I have ever had. My expectations were pretty low from buying vegan ice cream at the store, but Karma cream blew me away. They also had a variety of delicious looking pastries by the register that I can't wait to try next time. The woman helping me was also very sweet and she let me try multiple flavors before ordering. The new location feels more cramped and I miss the old flavors like cardamom and cinnamon but the customer service is still really good and the ice cream is better quality than a lot of the other places in gainesville. I really enjoy sitting here and studying- makes me feel like I'm studying in a big city downtown haha. Their new location is very clean, crisp, and hip. I love how innovative they get with their vegan options. I tried their Earl Grey Tea and one of their vegan carrot cake cookie sandwiches. The carrot cake cookie sandwich was almost $4 and while it was good, it was a bit TOO sweet for me. Karma Cream has some great ice cream and coffee but as a cafe/coffee shop it fails in my opinion, especially for the worker/student who needs to get work done. Every time I have been insider here it has been exceptionally loud. It always seems to be packed and the tables are fairly close together so that you overhear conversations all around you. I do like that it's open fairly late, however, I always find it difficult to get anything done here between the constant chatter and conversations of people pretending to do work. All in all, I would not recommend coming here if you are looking for a cafe to do work, but it's more for a quick bite to eat or a casual date atmosphere. read more

I would kill to figure out how to get this place down to St Pete to my hood. Was in Gaineslville with some friends last night and someone suggested ice cream - which as a vegan, you know I am already groaning over. No, no, no they said, they have VEGAN ice cream. Which, by the way, usually means two flavors of bad soy ice cream. However I am a team player so I agreed to go. OH. EM. GEE. I walked in to the tiny shop on University and was presented with an ice cream case that was half filled with Vegan ice creams. More flavors than i knew what to do with. Honestly. Then I saw milk shakes...WTF??? With your choice of milk - including soy, almond and coconut. After hemming and hawing about what to do with so many choices I finally settled on vegan salted caramel and chocolate ice cream with coconut milk to make a milk shake and of course they had coconut whipped cream to top it off. Best vegan milkshake I've ever had....even tops the ones at the Chicago Diner which is saying something. One word of caution, don't go with 20 people....not enough seats ;-) Other than that, if you are vegan and looking for "ice cream", I literally have never been anywhere better read more

I recently posted a review of Karma Cream that pointed out the negative progression of stars they deserve from the ice cream, to the coffee, to the customer service. It got weird after that. So, after receiving a belittling Yelp response that put the blame on me, and attempted to guilt me for making their staff cry, and also equated giving a negative customer service review on Yelp with disrespectfully "lambasting" their staff in a public forum, I have to go with the 1 star for bad customer service that overshadows the rest. The attempt to bully an honest Yelp reviewer by vilifying them also kinda "takes the cake." Hurting a particular staff member's feelings is never the intention of a bad review and never why I go to restaurants ("Yes, may I have an order of coffee, sweetened with your tears?"), and KC should be ashamed that they are using a tactic of guilt (and implying this reviewer is somehow Mr. CrazyMeanGuy) in response to honest criticism. * To clarify also since KC's response has been updated: I have never had anything but light hearted conversations in their store and they must have me confused with someone else. Or, this is more bullying and smearing a negative reviewer's character. **This Review experience got really weird and quite personal. It is proof that the customer service standard at KC is lacking when they'd rather drag a reviewer through the mud than use this chance to build a bridge. The lavender earl gray latte rocked my world. After returning home to visit gville on holiday I was happy to find karma cream is still open and still serving high quality wholesome treats. They really hit the nail on the head when they named this place. Simple, straightforward goodness that makes me feel good inside and out. For those who claim the prices are high, I feel, are not aware of what they are receiving. Starbucks offers far less quality at comparable prices. I wish I could meet the owners. So cool. So, a 24 hour vegan ice cream and fair trade place with wifi. Seems like just the thing to take off and blossom in Gainesville. Sadly, they will have to do it without me. The ice cream with actual cream was very very good. It was just way pricier than it needs to be - probably due to the tree-hugger-ness of the sourcing. Vegans, locavores and such types are only happy if it is expensive and politically correct. They really like that. The vegan icecream was terrible. But then, most vegan versions of real food are. What a terrible establishment. I can't wrap my head around why this place has good reviews. I gave this place a try one evening when I was craving a chi tea. When I asked one girl behind the counter, "does your chi tea have a lot of ginger in it," she shrugged, and passed the question onto another employee. In one of the rudest, most condescending tones I have ever heard she replied, "aaaacccttuuuaaaalllyyyy, chi tea doesn't have ginger in it." To which I responded "oh... are you sure? I think it usually does." "Well, we make ours from scratch and we don't put any ginger in it at alllllllllllllllll." Reluctantly, I ordered one. And lo and behold, the strong taste of ginger washed over my palate and I dropped that tea right in the trash. During the same visit, my girlfriend ordered a cappuccino. The coffee tasted even worse than Starbucks. A pungently stale taste with notes of acetone to finish. Another drink dropped right in the trash. I came back here a few weeks later in a momentary lapse of judgement because they were open late and I needed coffee. I ordered a latte, and the milk was certainly, without a doubt, expired. Third drink dropped right in the trash. I will never come back. Not to mention the decor on the inside is some cross between Goodwill chic and eclectic 80's garage sale. read more

This is a great place to study in a chill, relaxing environment. It's not too big and spots may fill up fast, but the back area is nicely separated from the noise of the front counter and makes for a great place to get work done. I've heard many people rave about the coffee ice cubes in their iced coffee and I didn't think this would make much of a difference, but I was wrong! My iced coffee was perfectly concentrated and not watered down at all due to the coffee ice cubes, I wish all coffee shops would do this! Of course I had to try the ice cream, so I had a half scoop of the green tea and half salted caramel- both flavors were delicious and creamy yet light, you couldn't tell that it as vegan yet I did not have the full feeling that I sometimes get after full fat dairy ice cream. Anther time when I came back, I had the curried chickpea wrap- soy chicken, chickpeas, curry and some greens all wrapped in a sprouted whole grain wrap. This was filling and delicious as well, perfect if you are a curry lover like me. I've also had the vegan cupcakes from here and they were awesome! Even though I'm not big on cupcakes, they were light yet the flavor was not compromised. My one complaint is that a few times that I've been here, the bathroom wasn't clean. I know it's not really anyone's fault, but I suppose the employees could do a better job of checking it. This is a great feature for Gainesville summers, drink your coffee down while walking home, cubes melt by the time you arrive, drink more coffee. They often have great art on the walls. I like that they are open quite late. Their proximity to UF makes them a great hangout for students. I am really glad that they exist, and that they represent the vegan options so well. Walkable from downtown as well. Super cute date location. You can find their delicious baked goods at the Co-Op, Radical Press, and other places in town. They are also right next to Caribbean spice, making for the perfect hangover cure of Jamaican spinach patty, a serving of ice cream, and an iced coffee. read more

***Vegetarian and Sometimes Vegan Eater*** My Karma must have been good to be led to Karma Cream. Whenever I drive from sucky Jacksonville to awesome Gainesville (once a week, to retain my sanity), I make it a point to have dessert here. I stick to their Vegan ice creams and Vegan shakes. I have traveled to many cities in North America, and it's hard to find a place with such a variety of Vegan offerings that actually taste amazing. The only thing that annoys me sometimes is that you are financially penalized for selecting Almond Milk as your choice of milk-substitute for your vegan shake (soy milk is free for the shake, however). I'm an almond-milk man all the way, so I pay. They have free wireless and the servers are great in that they won't harass you to leave. You can buy one shake or bowl of ice cream, and stay as long as you want. Though I bet you can't just have one bowl of ice cream. You'll be tempted to have another. It's a fun place to chill out, and reminds me of some vegetarian places I would hang out at home in back in Montreal. Ah, Gainesville.....I envy you for Karma Cream. I leave sometimes with a Vegan Milkshake for the road back to Jacksonville, and with Sirius Radio's 1st Wave giving me company with some haunting 80s track, I become sad as the realization hits me that when my shake is gone, I'm already half way back to near vegan-less and totally reactionary Jacksonville. :( read more

It's been years since I last went to Karma Cream (not for any particular reason), but I decided to stop in for some ice cream after having lunch at Mother's the other day. I got the vegan mixed berry ice cream. It was so creamy and tasty, and the texture was perfect. I could easily tell from the taste that it was made with coconut milk, but the coconut taste wasn't overpowering, and it was sweet without being too sugary. I even tried some non-vegan ice cream options before ordering, and I actually preferred the vegan ice cream to the dairy. Upon noticing their lunch offerings, I decided to go back 2 days later to try some of their vegan sandwiches. I ordered the Tofurkey club (made with tempeh bacon that had the taste and texture of real bacon). It was a huge sandwich stacked with lettuce and tomato and veganaise. It was so delicious and filling; I was pleasantly surprised. My husband got the vegan reuban, which was also incredible. Both sandwiches imitated their meat counterparts perfectly. We both felt this was some of the best vegan food we've had ever, if not just in Gainesville. Of course, after our lunch, we had to try another dessert. We shared a cookie sandwich: you choose two of any of their cookies plus any flavor of ice cream to put between them. We both really wanted to try the Earl gray/lavender cookies, and we got some vegan mint-chocolate-chip ice cream to go in between. It didn't really work as a sandwich (for that, you should really choose the softer cookies, like chocolate chip), but we ended up eating one cookie, then the ice cream, then the other cookie, and all of it was so delicious. Those Early gray/lavender cookies might be my new favorite cookie. What a surprise. This is a great option for vegans/vegetarians, but the food is accessible even for meat eaters. I can't speak to their coffee options, but everything we've had there over the past week was so delicious that they've definitely earned our business. Plus, the store is quaint and comfortable, with local art on the walls and a very open, airy feeling. Great place to meet for a chat or to study. read more

So many memories! A loyal customer of this place since 2011. Many many flavours of ice creams to try for and they keep adding new/seasonal flavours from time to time. Noise level is never too high so it also makes it a good place just to read a book or maybe grade exams. But they have limited space so if you are a big group (more than 6) , it might not be possible to find a place to sit together. I am personally fan of the authentic indian chai with real spices. They offer free coffee or ice cream after 10 purchases (equivalent to 10% off for loyal customers) I have lost count of how many free ones I had so far.. Fantastic. Oh my stars, I could drink a coconut milk milkshake all day, every day. The ice cream flavors available have a great variety, great flavors, and with all the options of any other ice cream shop. Except there's amazing vegan ice cream. For some reason, vegan ice cream always feels lighter, tastes better, and is texturally more exciting. The space is smaller but great to have a good conversation or read for a little bit. Free wifi for all your browsing needs too. Also, the drip coffee was quite good. I can't think of anything wrong with the place other than it's not next door to me. But I'm sure my wallet appreciates that I can't go here everyday. It's not a cheap place, for sure, but it's standard vegan ice cream prices and so nothing is out of bounds. read more

Love Karma Cream! If I wasn't trying to avoid eating myself into a sugar coma on the daily, I would probably just try to move in to this place. So far (over ~4 visits) I have tried two different sandwiches and two different cupcakes, and I've loved everything. The vegan grilled cheese with tomato and tempeh bacon was yummy in a comforting and satisfying kind of way. Honestly, I've never been a big fan of fake meat products, and most fake cheese products kinda make me want to cry - but this sandwich was good, and there were no weird textures or aftertastes. I also tried the vegan reuben, which I also enjoyed - however it is a bit on the tangy side, so if you aren't into that kind of bite then it might not be the sandwich for you. But again, no weird textures or tastes from the fake meat/cheese. I also tried a vanilla & bourbon flavored cupcake which was just what I was craving at that time - light, tasty, and not too sweet. And I had a chocolate chip cookie dough cupcake another time which was so good I thought I might just keel over and die. My mouth is watering now just typing about it! Mmmm... The place is on the small side, and depending on what time you go it seems to fill up quickly. I think out of the times I've been there, there have been available seats about half of the time. They have stamp cards for frequent customer (you get stamps for drinks/cupcakes and ice creams). We stopped in on our way through town and accidentally stumbled into Karma Cream. They have options for every diet and a nice place to sit for a while. We tried two of the vegan sandwiches with a house made lavender donut. The sandwiches did the job, but nothing to write home about. The iced latte with coffee ice cubes was the best part. Just opened up a while ago, very friendly owners! They make everything from scratch, organic, karma free, etc. down to their whipped cream and the "cookie" part of their ice cream sandwiches. They have two sections, one with vegan ice cream (not bad, not sorbet-y) and dairy based ice cream (hella good). Really good ice cream. Love their flavors. I love love love this place. I am not vegan or vegetarian but this ice cream is amazing. I've been a couple times and have tried many of the flavors and they're all delicious. The black cherry amaretto was incredible. They had green tea ice cream and the lemon cookie was great too. They also have good desserts, beers, teas and sandwiches. Wow, what a great place for ice cream. I tried the vegan and the dairy ice creams. The dairy one has a better texture, but the vegan one was good. I probably wouldn't have ever noticed a real difference unless I ate them side-by-side like I did. Next time, I'm getting the make-your-own ice cream sandwich. Rasberry pumpkin spice latte? Done. I love it. The ice cream is fantastic. My favorite is definitely the Lemon Cookies and it tastes like you just swallowed heaven. This place is amazing, open late and serves amazing vegan sandwiches, best Reuben ever! I am obsessed with their vegan ice cream, sundaes and milkshakes- especially the sundaes with vegan gummy bears, cookie dough, and salted caramel topping. Also a great selection of teas, cookies and cakes, brownies, etc. The staff are always so friendly and one small thing I noticed is that they use metal spoons to taste ice cream flavours and ceramic bowls/plates for ice cream and food unless you are having take out which is very mindful of being eco friendly! The only downside is that it is often busy and all the tables can be full sometimes and have to wait until someone leaves to get a table but I guess that's the problem with it being so popular! read more
