This is a review coming from an out-of-towner... and a very spoiled out-of-towner from the Bay Area, at that. In SF/Bay Area and LA if you want ANY kind of traditional Asian food you can find it, and it's some of the best in the world! Go to the Northeast, however, and the pickings are slim. So, that said, I'm giving it a higher rating than I probably would if I were elsewhere... This is everything you can expect from a "Asian" food restaurant in a small town in the Northeast. The ambiance is high end, dimly lit and moody. They have live music, I'm told almost every night, which was very nice. There are two bars, one in the middle and a sushi bar along the back wall. What I found the most bizarre about this place is it combined so many types and styles of food... Chinese, Japanese, and American. Fusion-y for sure. The sushi was fresh but SUPER expensive (but this might be a factor of the location? I was told these are normal prices for sushi in the area.) I had the Sake-don which, unless I'm totally misunderstanding, ends up being much less expensive than ordering the sashimi a la carte. It might be culture shock for me, but I recommend you come here with an open mind--even though the menu says traditional, this is far from any kind of traditional foods I've ever had. It seems like they're catering to a population of people not familiar with these types of foods, and also in an area with not many of these food type choices. My co-worker and I decided to stop in for lunch at Karma. We arrived around 12:30PM and were a little surprised to discover we were the only ones there. That's not usually a good sign at a restaurant but the previous reviews were good so we decided to give it try. The inside has nice decor and is very clean and well kept. There were plenty of staff around and they made us feel welcome. The hostess brought us to our table and explained how there was both a menu and buffet. Shortly there after, our waitress arrived answering any other questions we had and taking our order. We went with the buffet which is $11.95/person. The food was pretty good. There's a nice variety at the buffet of chicken, seafood, and beef. They definitely cater to the "American" Chinese experience - a variety of fried foods (spring rolls, chicken, boneless pork spare ribs, crab rangoons, etc.) along with a large sushi boat with a variety of rolls. They had plenty of non-fried foods as well (chicken with cashes, beef with vegetables, etc.). I was surprised that they didn't have a giant pot of white rice, but they did provide pork fried rice and lo mien. Both my coworker and I were impressed with the selection. More importantly, I didn't feel like I was eating greasy Chinese food. Quality seemed pretty good. The rolls in the boat weren't earth shattering but they weren't bad and considering it's all-you-can-eat, on really can't complain. Service was very good throughout the meal. At one point I had gotten up to grab some rolls and when I came back my plate was gone and my water was refilled. Overall it was a very good experience and worth 4/5 stars. I'd like to try some other non-buffett items on their menu. Prices aren't the cheapest around but if I wanted lower quality food, I could go somewhere else. read more

I tried take out from here after seeing how good their sushi was rated and also wanted to try some Chinese menu items. The food was okay, better than greasy Chinese but not 4 or 5 star quality. I ordered pork stir fried udon noddles which were okay- I wish it was a bit crispier cooked because the udon had a slimy texture. Maybe it was over cooked. Also tried the Mongolian beef which was okay. The breading or seasoning on the beef was a bit awkward because I wasn't expecting it to be lathered thickly, but the taste was okay, I wish it was more tender. Crab rangoons - hard to screw those up. They were tasty. Lastly , tried the very expensive $20 Pineapple Express maki which was was delicious. I wouldn't pay $20 for it again but the sushi does seem to live up to the high reviews. If I come back here i would try more sushi but it doesn't seem worth it for Chinese food. read more

So I travel a lot for work, usually depending on Yelp to lead my to a local hidden gem. That's exactly what I got with Karma. Don't be alarmed by the location within the shopping plaza. The energy, food and service here is amazing. I started with the crab Rangoon's and spicy tuna roll, both a hit! From there I went with the general chicken and noddles for my entree, BOTH A HIT! The food all came out hot and fresh, leaving me beyond satisfied. The price point of everything is what really topped off my experience, well beyond reasonable. I ate at karma so many times, never occurred to me to write a review. Here it comes. It's in Andover, and you can't compare the food here to Chinatown. For Andover standard it's the best Asian restaurant in the area! That's why I went back again and again. I like the lobster dish and green pepper beer dish. Ordered sushi a few times, honestly I am not the expert on sushi but I think it's on par with other Japanese restaurants. Staffs are friendly. Went there last night. Food was good, drinks were good service was very good. My complaint is that I had a gift certificate that was purchased in Burlington, and is not able to be used in Andover. With the certificate was a business card listing all of Karma's locations Including Andover. Unlike most chains when you buy a gift certificate it's able to be used at any location, I will use my certificate in Burlington, but I'm soured on this business and may not go after that. I don't feel you can go wrong here with whatever you choose to order. We came in for sushi, but we sat at a table where we could see the wait staff bring out most of the dishes from the kitchen. The wasabi didn't seem as strong as I've had elsewhere, but it was well prepared and enhanced the rolls. We went with a large group on a Friday night. This is clearly a popular place to be and it was packed. They have a very large table that is available for groups such as this (18 in our case). Despite being busy, the service was excellent and attentative. We had a variety of foods, but the Sushi was really excellent. We had a very large boat with an excellent variety and it was all great. Karma is fantastic. While the facade of the building is unassuming, the atmosphere inside the restaurant is the epitome of casual, Asian-inspired elegance. My friend and I sat at the bar and were greeted with friendly staff and excellent service. I enjoyed a white mai tai as well as the crab rangoon and beef negima appetizer. The food arrived warm and each plate looked inviting. Our appetizers were delicious and the perfect serving size for sharing. I ordered the Fancy Maki and Fried Kani sushi rolls for my meal and they were the best sushi I have ever had at a restaurant. The rolls were fresh and the rice wasn't too thick, which is a pet peeve of mine with sushi.
