For an hour or so I had searched online sites for several of those components to no avail. I called Karl's Hardware without great hope (thinking, "How would a smaller, local store compete with the bigs regarding product availability."), and boy was I wrong. They had nearly everything per my "wish list" and beyond that offered better variety (e.g., in lengths of electrical wiring) than the big stores. Even still, while I was indeed amazed with the inventory, that wasn't the best part. It was Aubern that took my initial call and met me in person as I arrived. She very proactively found almost everything with a problem-solving-can-do spirit. She located items quickly, coordinated with other staff to confirm specs, found alternatives for the rare item or two that wasn't in stock, and helped me find my most cost-effective bundle of parts when all was said & done. Karl's is a truly excellent hardware store with great staff and selection!

They offered to upgrade me to a larger unit that was missing some functionality. I agreed. I had to call for pickup early to avoid additional service charges when a tire came off the rim. It was apparently under inflated. There were indications that the setup was rushed when they couldn't deliver the tractor I reserved, turns out that the box scraper was apparently installed improperly and didn't work well. I paid for a whole week but only had it for 5 days due to no fault of my own.

The Arvin Store - Gardening supplies

The Arvin Store

The Arvin Store is like an old fashioned small town variety or general store. It sells a little…read morebit of everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. There is a large section containing items a hardware store would sell like tools, gadgets, nuts and bolts, spray paint, you name it they probably have it crowded onto a shelf or hung on every available inch of wall space. Or maybe you need to do some plumbing repairs? There's a whole aisle of plumbing supplies, too. Now, this place is not fancy, but it's functional. I don't know how the owner does it, but he manages to cram more stuff into this store than one would think possible. This is a good thing in that he carries the same amount of product that a store three or four times the size would normally sell. Just don't be expecting fancy product or marketing displays. Looking for gardening supplies (hoses, fertilizer)? He's got you covered. Brooms, mops, rakes, shovels, good quality full size tools? Yep, there's a whole aisle of those, too. Pet food and supplies? You bet. Are you trying to set up a stereo, television, DVD player, or home entertainment center? There's a whole section of electronic connectors, doodads, coaxial cables, everything you need to finish the project (or talk your more tech-friendly kids into doing it). Do you need some toys to entertain your kids? A bicycle helmet to keep them safe and secure? Maybe you've run out of vacuum cleaner bags, your bike tire has a flat, and you just don't want to drive all the way into Bakersfield to find a replacement? This shop has got you covered. How about personal grooming products like soap, toothbrushes, shampoo, or conditioner? Do you need cleaning products for your house? Maybe kitchen gadgets of all kinds? Can we interest you in shoelaces in every color of the rainbow? Are you getting the idea yet that this place carries it all? And if you're hungry, they've got a little soda fountain, a cooler full of drinks, hot coffee, and a variety of snack foods. Here's the best part. They open every day at 4:00 am. Did you hear that? 4:00 am!!! Arvin is a small community outside Bakersfield surrounded by farms and filled with the people who work there. Farm workers start work very early, as would you if you were facing the prospect of working outside in the Bakersfield midday heat, and Abdul, the owner, goes out of his way to be open early in the morning to service these people. He knows the people who live in Arvin, what they need, and when they need it. My parents have lived in the Arvin area for over 20 years. They visit this little shop often. I came here with my mom, and when she introduced me to the owner, a very sweet man, as her daughter he told me that I have wonderful parents. I assured him that I was quite aware of that fact. Mom says that if there is anything he doesn't carry, that you can tell him and he will order it for you. Now THAT'S what I call SERVICE!

The first time I went in was right before Christmas, when I had just moved into my new home and needed a dining room table for Christmas dinner. I was able to find exactly what I needed, and they even helped me load it into my car. I later went back and found a family room table at a great price as well. Most recently, I stopped in looking for a single cabinet knob to replace one that was missing--and once again, they came through. Their selection is impressive, even for small items, and the people who work there are always kind and willing to help. Great prices, great selection, and genuinely friendly people. I highly recommend the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Simi Valley.

For instance if I am looking at most of there lighting I can get the same light fixtures Brand new and cheaper on Wayfair or overstock.com delivered with the ability to return. Whoever does their pricing is way out of touch with what used furniture thrift store furniture should cost they have the same furniture week after week because it's priced way too high. Therefore defeating the purpose of habitat humanity. If you're really looking for a good habitat for humanity the one in Oxnard is excellent five star review great customer service great prices and their furniture is constantly turning over so there's constantly new stuff because everything is priced reasonably Do yourself a favor and skip the Simi Valley store go to the Oxnard store have a great experience and be able to purchase items at reasonable and fair pricing .

Many of these people operate on a family budget so small that many of us can't even comprehend how they make ends meet, and gas is too expensive to continually make trips into Bakersfield to go shopping. Dollar Tree carries a wide variety of items, all at $1 (or less) each. Now Arvin residents have an affordable local option to meet many of their everyday household needs. Dollar Tree carries everything you need for those special celebrations: greeting cards, party supplies (cups, plates, napkins, party favors, and decorations), wrapping supplies (gift bags and boxes, wrapping paper, tissue paper, bows, and ribbons), even party favors for the kids. I found towers full of reading glasses and sunglasses that would cost from $5-$15 if purchased elsewhere. There are all kinds little toys to entertain the kids. I spent quite a bit here on toys to put in the prize box of my kindergarten classroom. Speaking of classrooms, Dollar Tree also has a small section of teacher friendly items in their "Teachers' Corner" and an aisle full of office / school supplies. I picked up some colorful sentence strips and mini pocket charts to use during center time in my classroom. If you're looking for cleaning supplies for your house they carry a wide variety of cleansers, sprays, sponges, and wipes to get keep your house spotless. When you're done with the housecleaning, you can clean yourself with soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, and toothpaste, not to mention hair products, brushes, headbands, and barrettes. Yes, some of these are off-brands, but they also carry major brands such as Colgate, Aim, Close-Up, White Rain, and others, and all at the same low price of $1 each. They also carry picture frames, candles, incense, pet supplies, automotive supplies, some light hardware items. There are plates, cups, bowls, plastic storage containers, and kitchen gadgets galore. There are aisles full of food, too, and even candy. Many of the candy bars such as Milky Way, snickers, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups to name a few are $.79 instead of a dollar, though the larger boxes and bags of things such as Milk Duds and Hot Tamales are $1. There are so many bargains to be found at Dollar Tree. Whether you're open to shopping off brand items or prefer to stick to names you already know and trust, you'll find much to help you stay within even the most limited budgets here. And that's something this community really needs.
