For an hour or so I had searched online sites for several of those components to no avail. I called Karl's Hardware without great hope (thinking, "How would a smaller, local store compete with the bigs regarding product availability."), and boy was I wrong. They had nearly everything per my "wish list" and beyond that offered better variety (e.g., in lengths of electrical wiring) than the big stores. Even still, while I was indeed amazed with the inventory, that wasn't the best part. It was Aubern that took my initial call and met me in person as I arrived. She very proactively found almost everything with a problem-solving-can-do spirit. She located items quickly, coordinated with other staff to confirm specs, found alternatives for the rare item or two that wasn't in stock, and helped me find my most cost-effective bundle of parts when all was said & done. Karl's is a truly excellent hardware store with great staff and selection!

I just spent 15 minutes in Karl's with the most UNIFORMED, UNKNOWLEDGEABLE PERSON for a hardware store! If he was a younger kid, it would be excusable, a middle aged man, pathetic! Had a customer see my frustration and told me that he knew where the hook was that I was looking for. As we both turned around to walk away, this Idget interrupted us by saying that he was the employee and he was helping me, which he wasn't! Frustrated, I made the comment that it would be faster and cheaper for me to go into Lancaster and actual find what I was looking for and I walked out!

The staff…read moreI encountered seemed to be doing their best, but the overall leadership and organization of the store felt very unprofessional and poorly managed. Based on my experience and what I observed, there appears to be a serious lack of communication and structure coming from management. Unfortunately, that creates a frustrating environment not only for customers but likely for the employees as well. Because of this, I would not feel comfortable returning to this location or spending a single dime there again. I truly hope management takes steps to improve the way the store is run, for both the customers and the employees who work hard there.

They may not have every aisle and warehouse-sized inventory of the big orange store in town, but what they do have is something that's become surprisingly rare... customer service. Every time I walk in, someone asks if I need help. Not the obligatory "Can I help you?" as they're walking away, but the kind where they actually stop, listen, and help you find exactly what you're looking for. They don't just point toward aisle 12 and wish you luck--they'll walk you right to it. Sometimes paying a dollar more is worth saving 30 minutes of wandering around a giant warehouse. Karl's proves that great service never goes out of style. It's the kind of place where you're treated like a neighbor instead of a barcode.
