Owners are unfriendly and give short terse answers like they don't have time for you. Prices are higher than normal

I've been in this store twice before this last time. Both times I was looking for ammunition and their stock of standard caliber ammunition is weak. This time I was looking to do a gun transfer....the gal says it's $100 for the transfer and $35 for the dros . lol....I won't be walking back into that rip off of a store. Headed down to Bakersfield, have a couple of errands to run and will take care of it at Valley. I won't ever step foot in Southern again. read more

Recently bought a gun here after hearing positive things about their inventory and their staff. I was very pleased to be greeted by the owner who was more than happy to answer any questions. A lot of gun stores in the neighboring cities are run and staffed by "gun snobs" that look down their noses at you if you don't know every single thing there is to know about a gun. Not here. Our quest for an over/under shotgun continues. We were up in Tehachapi seeing family this weekend and decided to stop in. This is a nice mom and pop kind of place. The owners were very kind and helpful. They had a decent selection of firearms and gear. Even tho we didn't get the shotgun we wanted we did make an impulse purchase of a smallish rifle. I would recommend this joint to friends and family. I would have given this 5 stars but the prices are slightly higher than in Bakersfield. I feel it was a worthwhile purchase tho as I am supporting small business. read more

Its crazy how some people would leave a 1 star rating that should tell you about the person leaving the feedback. 2 stars 3 stars seems reasonable if you have a bad experience but one star reveiw sound like someone just hating on these beautiful people. Im a newer gun owner and I've been to this shop maybe 5 times or so and everytime I go I really enjoy myself. The couple that runs this place is very nice kind people. First time i went my four your old son was given candy, played with there dog, and was given alot of attention from the kind business owners. I dont know how someone could have negative thoughts about these folks. I really like this gun store and I'll be going back to buy my next firearm very soon. Also I'll like to add that most shops are sold out of firearms but everytime I go to southern shooter supply there's always something good in stock. Dont listen to the bad reveiws this is one of my favorite spots. read more

I've had about 5 interactions with the owner of this place within the last year (4 of which happened in the last 3 months) and let me tell you, this guy does not care about customers. Every time I try to go there, even during business hours, he seems to be closed for some reason. I've called him on the phone several times, and EACH TIME the guy was extremely rude and hung up on me before I could finish asking questions. I needed to buy a part for my rifle and I asked if he sold it, he said yes. Then I asked if it was in stock, he said no - and when I asked how much he usually sells it for, he raised his voice and said "It's. Not. In. Stock." and hung up. I'm surprised he has any customers at all. Beware of this guy. read more

Husband and wife hardworking, old fashioned, neighborly folks. Great senses of humor we often get talking for an hour or two. They manage to juggle all the knowledge, paperwork, customers, legalities, etc. that comes with running a gun store like pros. Glad I started shopping here! read more

I have done business with Southern Shooter several times over the past few years. Most recently a handgun transfer. They are friendly, knowledgeable and easy to deal with. I hate having to do gun transfers, they are a pain in the neck. This was by far, the most painless of the ones I have done. Great people and a great little shop for Tehachapi. read more

I stopped by Southern Shooters Supply in Tehachapi this afternoon. Since I was new to Tehachapi I was curious about what products and shooting accesories they sold. I found the store surprisingly well stocked. Both the proprietor and sales person were very knowledgeable and helpfull. Even though the store was quite busy at the time the owner went in the back and brought out a rifle that I was interested in; this while helping other customers. Can't ask for a better shoping experience than that. read more

Bought my first gun here. They were very helpful in answering all my questions before I made a decision on which one to buy. No high pressure sales. Very friendly the three times I was in to ask questions, when I took my firearms test, when I made my purchase and when I picked up my gun. I've only been in this store one time and I will NEVER go again. I will never tell anyone to shop there, and the stores message to customers is bullshit. This guy does not give a damn about you or your interest in guns. This guy doesn't even seem to care about sales. I went in with my brother (both intent of buying something) and left disgusted a few minutes later. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about, he doesn't carry that much, and what he does carry is very overpriced. Combine that with his very rude and impatient attitude and you get a crappy store. My brother and I both know our guns very well and this guy didn't want us touching anything, and would grab things back from you after about 20 seconds. Please, do not ever shop there. I try to buy local to help the community, but this business apparently doesn't care about serving the community or basic customer service. I've purchased many items and a repair from this place, and you'd think the guy would remember me by now - NO! Instead, I get treated rudely and ignored. I recently went in to purchase a specific type of ammo, which they didn't carry. When I asked if he could order it for me he said, "No.." and walked away and began to ignored me until I left the store. Guess what... Don't be fooled by the faded boxes in the window. This is a great little store packed with inventory and great comer service. The owner here is friendly and helpful. Every time I have gone here I have left with what I was looking for. It's not amazon pricing but well worth the additional cost for information and support you get. The pricing on there handguns is better then dealers in Bakersfield and i regretted not buying my H&K from the, it was $100 cheaper than them the dealer in Bakersfield. Love these guys and will but my next gun or few guns from them. read more
