Great little stop in on a Friday night with the kids -- wasn't too busy and our food was out hot, fresh, and quick. The ambiance was quiet and we didn't feel at all out of place as there were different crowd types (families, friends, couples, etc -- all at home). The menu offers pretty large portions, so I suggest that if you're a parent eating with children like I was -- ordering one main to split with your child if they're not a super hungry eater. One meal portion is generous enough to share. Meal itself was excellent and good for the value. Will definitely be coming again.
Karé Bar was delicious! We ordered hot tea, grilled mackerel (not filet- so be prepared to use those chopstick bone-picking skills), tonkatsu Karé, tonkatsu curry udon, yuzu and matcha cheesecakes. The cheesecakes were bite-sized, a bit pricey at $7 a slice but very good. All of our selections were cooked well and everything was tasty. Service was also very friendly and attentive. Definitely would come back again!
Genuinely surprised about the ramen. This was amazing - umami and rich in flavor. The curry udon was also great - this is their re-work of the dish as it is less soupy and more like a pasta! Ambiance during the day was bright, calm, and cozy. Service was great - no complaints. Would recommend.
Really good meal on a cold day. My fiancée and I dined here because we wanted something that sounded warm and hearty and she suggested chicken katsu curry. She ordered the chicken katsu curry and I ordered the tonkatsu curry. I personally believe the tonkatsu was better (if you eat pork), but you can't go wrong with the chicken katsu either. The breading was nice and crunchy and the curry had good flavor. They also provide chili powder and jalapeño paste to spice up your food. The service was very quick and to the point. There wasn't much in the way of hospitality but the cozy interior made up for it. They have a fair amount of seating but if it gets busy, then it may be a lot longer to get a table. There's ample parking as it's in the shopping center with the At Home and many other restaurants.
Food - curry pork cutlet was delicious. They have extra curry powder for those who was more flavor. Sausage was okay for my liking. Udon gave a nice clean taste. Location - plenty of parking spaces. Easy to find this location. Cute decoration throughout the restaurant. Service - attentive and friendly staff. :)
Haven't dined here in a while! Previously when it was all over social media, I decided to give it a try. The food is def a bit on the pricier side, however, I thought quality was good. Currently, I came again (I think my third time now). The hype is for sure down and so is the food quality. The flavor is more mild now and it's not as pleasant to dine there anymore with employee music in the back room on full blast. It's a bit disappointing and disturbing while the atmosphere is meant to be on the chill and calm side. I'd reconsider visiting again having such annoying experience on my most recent visit. On a side note, the service was good. The waitress was very attentive and checked in on us every now and then.

This restaurant is so cute and comfortable, from the moment you walk in the door it becomes easy to sit and stay for a while. In particular what I wanted was Katsu, curry, and udon noodles and boy was I happy to find a combination of all three in such a delicious plating. It was very easy to clean my plate, and the light grilled salmon salad served as an excellent pairing. The dressing perfectly countering the depth of the curry's flavor. Service was perfect, attentive and quick with everything.
Inside is very clean with plenty of seating, but I can tell that the dining area gets filled quickly. The hamburger curry steak is a popular item. It is very good. It is a mix of the Salisbury steak and Carrie and the meat and rice. Ratio is very good. I like how it is a full meal with coleslaw on the side. The karaage is also very good and crispy, and tastes a bit less oily than other chicken appetizers I've had.
Karé Bar may look aesthetically pleasing but is the food worth checking out? I decided to check out the restaurant to see for myself. Walking in, the interior is chic. It's nice, nothing too fancy but I'm sure people would appreciate the calm, chill ambiance of the place. Unfortunately I was the only person in that restaurant so I suppose it must have been slow when I went. From what I heard the Katsu/Donkatsu Curry are some of the best in the area so I decided to get the Donkatsu Curry. I also ordered pan fried dumplings; I was feeling hungry so yay more food. Pan Fried Dumplings can come either in Chicken or Seafood. I opted for Chicken. It comes out with five pieces and while that's fine I don't think it was anything impressive so I don't think I'd order that again. The taste tasted familiar; it had a slight crunch on the bottom since it was fried on a pan and soft near the top. Dip it with some soy sauce and it's good to keep you content until the main course comes out. My Donkatsu Curry came out and my first impressions were that it looked great presentation wise. It's a fried pork cutlet over rice with curry. There's also a fried egg on top to compliment as well. Personally I thought this dish was good but the portion felt small. I think the Donkatsu was crispy but I think I finished that dish a lot quicker than expected. The curry wasn't spicy but it was savory where you just want to dose that over everything else. For the price I think it's average. It's a place you should check out if you are craving something katsu but there are more options that I think are better for Katsu.
Had the Donkatsu curry and it was so good! It comes with a salad and roasted veggies which was refreshing to have along with the curry! Server is extremely kind and checked in on my friend and I often! Decor was fun and modern too! Would come back! read more
This place is quaint and has delicious options. Sad they got rid of the curry udon but their curry katsu is so so good. I recommend this. They also have a variety of other dishes including grilled fish for a traditional meal. We liked the sausages as well - so well with the roasted garlic! I recommend this place for curry and Japanese style light eats! read more
Kare bar is an amazing gem of a restaurant in Chantily! Cute and clean aesthetic, fast attentive service, delicious food all at a very reasonable price. We ordered takoyaki and beers to start and I ordered a donkatsu plate for my main dish and it included pork katsu, miso soup, side salad, and rice. All for only $17!! In DC I know they would charge extra for all the sides. My friend ordered the chicken katsu curry and would highly recommend it. My only wish is that they had beers on draft. Cans are always disappointing in my opinion. I can't wait to come back again! read more

Saw this restaurant on Tiktok and definitely wanted to check it out (plus I was really craving udon). This was our first time here, so it took us little longer to decide what to order. The waitress was very friendly and explained the most popular items on the menu to us. I am sure she meant well and wanted to ensure quick service, but I was slightly uncomfortable when she was standing less than 5 feet away staring at us deciding what to order. We ordered the ika geso (deep fried squid) as appetizer and then shrimp tempura udon and donkatsu curry udon for entrees. The fried squid was delicious and not too chewy. The udon noodles were perfect texture. The curry broth was flavorful and not too thick. Overall, the ambiance was great - comforting, cozy, and cute. read more
Staff was friendly and helpful here and it wasn't too busy for a Saturday night. I came with my husband and my family and we were able to chat with the Korean owner for a bit. She was a lovely lady with a passion for Japanese food, as she had lived in Japan for a while. She helped make some recommendations and was helpful in answering our questions. I had the katsu curry and my husband had the oyako don. The katsu was good, but the curry tasted different from authentic Japanese curry places, a little sweeter and less aromatic. It wasn't bad, just different. My husband found the oyako don a little underwhelming but he still thought it was good. I loved the interior of this restaurant and the staff's friendly demeanor made the place even cozier! read more
I can't believe I did not try this restaurant sooner. It is a super cute, small restauramt perfect for a date. Staff are friendly and sweet. My friend and I came here for some curry food and we got just that and more. I wouldn't recommend the calamari and the potato salad but everything we ordered was so good. The tuna and salmon tartar are A MUST. to get. - Plenty of seafood for the seafood udon noodles and the curry rice with crispy chicken was delicious. Everything wad flavored so well and perfectly balance with each other. Warm sake is recommended to go with the meal. read more
Kare bar food was good. And service was good too. The restaurant is casual dining and it's cute inside. We ordered Karaage and takoyaki for starters and for our entrees I got tonkatsu plate and my husband got tonkatsu curry. Both entrees had good portions of food. We really liked their karaage, which is deep fried chicken chunks with dry seasoning. Takoyaki was good but we've had better before so this was just ok to our taste. Tonkatsu was well battered with nice bread crumbs and fried crispy! I usually don't like fatty pieces of meat on my tonkatsu so I wasn't too pleased with that but overall their tonkatsu was good. I like their miso soup, they make their miso soup with red miso I believe unlike usual tonkatsu restaurants with white miso which is more mild flavor. If you are craving tonkatsu and in the area, I say give this restaurant a try. read more

Super delicious food with kind staff! I was here with my family for an early dinner and there were a lot of families in here on a Sunday. I've been eyeing this place for over a year now, so I was excited to finally take the time to try this spot out. The interior is super clean and simple and the cutlery is very pretty. I liked that a few people got the unagi kamameshi, because that convinced my mom to get it (she's really influenced by aesthetics / visuals)! My family honestly enjoyed all the dishes: - chicken karaage - ika geso (squid) - tonkatsu donburi - unagi kamameshi - tonkatsu curry The flavors were mellow and tasted like a homemade meal! My mom really enjoys spicy food, but I told her that Japanese spiciness tends to be more all-encompassing and mellow vs. the painful kind of spiciness. We really liked the pickles and salad that came with the dishes, and the staff were so helpful with our questions! I was only able to finish about half of my tonkatsu curry plate, as it was so filling. My boyfriend inhaled it after he got home from work! I'd definitely want to come back to try additional options, so I hope to be back here soon! read more
I don't know where to begin but say that this is much better than most of the ramen places I have tried in recent times. If you have not been here you should definitely come and give it a try! The food was tasty and the service was great. The vibes of the place can make a great date spot. read more

Really enjoyed the beef udon here. Big chunks of tender beef and a flavorful broth. The noodles had great texture and were perfectly cooked. It felt like a hug in a bowl. Very happy with the whole experience. read more

LOVE THIS SPOT!!! Every dish here manages to exceed my expectation somehow! I am no stranger to curry and udon dishes but this place truly does a job well done. Food: 10/10. The curry udon is well seasoned and the portion is big. I tried the tempura udon once and even the tempura was so so good, super light and crunchy. My boyfriend loves the hamburg steak here and always gets it. Honorary shoutout to the EGGPLANT!! IT IS SO DELICIOUS I get it every time I come. The kaarage may be a bit salty. Vibe: 9/10. I don't love the high top table but just a personal preference. The place is small so has a cozy vibe but the decor is really cute. Service: 10/10, very friendly staff and check in on us often. read more

When I went, I wasn't in the mood for curry (although I've heard great things about it). Instead, we opted to get a variety of smaller dishes to share. And unfortunately, each dish fell short or wasn't very memorable. The karaage and pork katsu weren't crispy, and the tuna tartare was quite bland and served on a crumbly cracker. The other dishes were pretty unremarkable. Although, the place itself is adorable and the staff is very kind and accommodating! I can't speak for the curry, but if you're interested in anything else on the menu, then I would probably pass. read more
My friend and I had a wonderful experience here and would love to visit again. To start off, our server Kelly was so sweet and probably gave one of the best service Ive had in a while. She gave us great recommendations for the appetizers since we are super indecisive. There is no cocktail menu at the moment but Kelly told us that she was a bartender and can make a variety of drinks! She recommended the mojito which were very sweet and refreshing and my friend also got the lemon drop- which was a bit stronger but quite good! Highly suggest getting drinks from Kelly :) The food was simple and great! I love japanese curry and enjoyed eating the curry even just with rice! The tuna tartar was more on the spicy side but I enjoyed the presentation and crispy cracker with it! The hamachi carpaccio was complimented well with the ponzu and radish. The mackerel hit the spot as I remember always eating fried mackerel with hot steamed rice as a kid. Even though we stayed near closing time, we didn't feel rushed to leave and Kelly even gave us a green tea cheesecake on the house to try! It was very tasty and complimentary to our meal. Overall, we loved the aesthetics of the decorations and the ambiance was small and homey. This is the top places in Chantilly I would recommend! Came here for a lunch date. They have curry dishes with cutlets. You can choose which meat cutlet you'd like. We didn't see that the cutlets came with sides, so we orded potatoe salad side. Our curries, did come with potatoe salad on the side and pickled veggies like raddish and mini cucumbers. I liked how simplistic the atmospher was. I do wish the music speaker would be removed or moved to the front of the establishment towards the window. It took away from low-volume conversation at our table. It was very light and bright texture wise inside. The service was very attentive and checked on us constantly. We liked that the curry dishes came out quickly. We also ordered a noodle dish which had a nice broth. We tried the house green tea and it was much needed and relaxing to drink. The meals are filling and it has a nice variety of items on the plate. You will also have seasoning you can add on the table like sauces and spices. I want to come back on another date and try a spicier dish! I'm excited to take friends here :) read more

4/5! This place was highly recommended by a friend of mine, so with the recommendation, a visit to Kare Bar had to be done. Went here for dinner and can say, I enjoyed the food and experience here. The Food: After browsing their menu, I decided on the Unagi Kamaheshi. It's a Eel over rice bowl on a sizzling cast iron pot. The Eel was absolutely delicious! It was fresh and flavorful from the sauce, and paired tat with some white rice just made it better. I will say, the portions for this dish is quite small for the price you pay ($24). I thought I would've had more Eel, but it's whatever. I personally wouldn't get it again, maybe another dish. The Service: Service was great! Staff were very friendly and attentive. Water refills kept on coming, which was great. And food was brought out to us in a timely manner. The Atmosphere: The restaurant was very nicely decorated. Had a decent amount of seating, was clean and had a modern decor. Overall, a 4/5! Definitely recommend giving this place a try. read more

Kare Bar is big on social media...according to my teenage son...and we love Donburi & Curry so we made the trek to nearby Chantilly where there are now numerous Asian food choices which is great. Kare is definitely designed for the Tik Tok/Instagram crowd as it has a nice modern, clean look which would be right up my son's alley if he were going on a date. Donburi is one of my fave comfort foods so I have to order that (pork cutlet). We also order the curry katsu. They come out on a nice tray with a side dish like potato salad or Japanese pickles. I will say the food is freshly made and I believe all from scratch. For example the curry doesn't seem as salty and I venture to guess the chef makes it from scratch as opposed to using the curry cubes you can buy at the asian market. Everything is good...probably not the absolute best renditions of Donburi and Katsu Curry but solid and filling. If you're looking for a solid restaurant with a cool vibe go check out Kare. read more

It's a wonderful place to enjoy a home-cooked-style Japanese meal, especially on a windy, cold day like today. The food at this restaurant was quite different from what we typically get at other Japanese establishments, yet it felt authentic. It used fewer sauces and spices but was still very tasty and flavorful. The service was fantastic, and the ambiance was cozy and clean. This place has been on my bucket list ever since I saw it on IG. My other Yelp Elite friend recommended this place and took me for Wednesday dinner. CAN I JUST FIRST SAY HOW CUTE THIS PLACE IS!!!! It is a perfect place for a date or girls hangout! Service was also AMAZING!!! Our server was Kelly, and she was so sweet& friendly!! She gave a great overview of menu and came by frequently to check if everything is alright. She gave off such positive energy. It was first time in a while that I actually genuinely answered YES! everytime she came by because thatMs how amazing our dining experience was. We ordered Curry Tonkatsu Udon (because our server said Curry Udon menus are new on menu)& Unagi Kamameshi. Unagi Kamameshi came in on hot sizzling plate, and it had such a great balance&flavor (I personally thought the sizzling plate was so authentic & cute). Curry was also well flavored, not too thick, light, or spicy and just PERFECT, and the noodles were also chewy (I have no idea what kinda magic they did but it was cooked perfectly and texture was just about right!). Price of food was also great for such quality! I typically don't finish soup whenever I get it with noodles, but this time It was soooo good that I finished curry completely and was so sad when they were taking away plates because we finished. The inside is very lovely and inviting! The interior is filled with cute plants, vine decorations, white curtains, and light bulbs. Space wise it's more narrow with limited seating inside. Spicy Crunch Cucumber Salad 7.5/10 - fresh, very subtle chili oil flavor - expected a bit more cucumber Salmon Onigiri 6/10 - 90% of the onigiri is just rice... - rice is not evenly seasoned, some parts saltier and other parts plain - not worth $5 for a single onigiri with very little filling Chicken Karaage 8.5/10 - batter is very nice and light, could be crisper - served with Japanese mayo and seasoning Hamburger Steak 8/10 - comes with miso soup, rice, potato salad, side salad, pickled radish/beet?, etc - hamburger steak also has onions and carrots inside, very moist, and sauce was good! - the radish paste on the bottom left of the plate tasted very weird We were checked up on frequently and food came relatively quick. Although I enjoyed the setting, the food here was very mediocre in my opinion. I think some of their items are not worth the price for what you get. read more

The eel in clay pot with rice was pretty good but I don't know if I would get it again because it was sort of plain with just the bbq eel and rice. It would have been good with some cucumbers on the side to help add some freshness to the dish. The restaurant is aesthetic and super cute! Definitely one of my katsu place in the area! I believe they specialize in Japanese curry. Ive been here a few times and I each time I have gotten the katsu Japanese curry. The katsu is so well breaded and the meat is still juicy. I also love how the curry comes on the side so that it doesnt make the katsu wet and I can control how much curry I want. The curry is incredibly delicious and has a deep hearty taste. I also had a taste of my friends salmon dish and that was also good!!! May get this next time. The salmon has a sweet flavor and a nice crisp to it. Takoyaki is good here as well. Im not sure if I got a bad batch but the kaarage was soooo dry. It was like eating jerky...probably wont get this dish again. Service was good and the restaurant decor is super cute!!! read more

TL;DR: Definitely a spot to try Japanese and Korean curries, and the service is excellent! Other menu items were alright. Been here two times, and here's my honest opinion ~ *Atmosphere + Wait time: Restaurant is CUTE, but pretty small, so there might be a waitlist during the weekend/peak hours. My first visit was lunch on a Sunday, and we had to wait ~20 mins. The second visit was on a Wednesday night, and there was no waitlist! Definitely perfect for date night for sure :) *Food: I did enjoy the curries here. I've tried both the Donkatsu Japanese curry and Korean curry. The Korean curry has a slight spicy kick, and the vegetables are chopped in chunks. The Japanese curry vegetables are cut in a more finer fashion. I've never had Japanese curry made in restaurant, I've always made it myself, so it was interesting finally trying the real deal. The curry dishes were presented beautifully, and the portions were more than enough and I was literally so full afterwards. We've tried their other menu items as well. For appetizers, such as the 5-spiced edamame, takoyaki, octopus salad, and hamachi kama, my favorites being the edamame and takoyaki. Wasn't a big fan of the octopus salad and the hamachi kama, there was just too much grated and mushed radish that we didn't end of finishing. @karebar_dmv Cute and cozy restaurant serving up Korean/Japanese dishes! Hamburger steak plate: This was my favourite! It was 2 hamburger sized meatloaf patties on this delish sauce with rice and perfectly portioned sides. Chicken katsu cutry: A traditional dish with a amasing fried chicken cutlet. Chicken katsu curry udon: Another classic that can do no wrong. I loved the noodles, especially. Hamachi Carpaccio : One of my favourites, served with yummy ponzu sauce. Great app. Cucumber app : Another one of my favs! It's spicy, and has great flavour and crunchy. I love having it on the table to munch on as a side. Karaage: One of the best ones I've had! Parking: absolutely no issue! There is a ton of parking because this restaurant is located in a shopping center. It is near Cafein in Chantilly. I've gone during peak times and there were a lot of available parking spots. Seating: there's not a ton of seating. This may be the biggest downfall because you may have to wait for a seat during peak hours. Food: it was pretty good! I enjoyed the Katsu & my boyfriend enjoyed the eel. However, one of my friends did not like what she ordered (Katsu & curry). Bathroom: they have clean simple single independent bathrooms. Price: it is a little pricey for the amount of food. But the ambiance is very cute & nice. Service: they are very nice & patient! They're also super busy, so it might take them a second~ read more
This is such a cute restaurant, with colorful and cheerful decor that you would never expect in a strip mall. The staff are wonderful. They were all so helpful in navigating the menu. My daughter and I were first timers, so we appreciated that. I ordered the chicken katsu curry and my daughter ordered the shoyu ramen. The food was excellent. I had never had this type of curry before and it was so delicious and full of vegetables. My daughter enjoyed the ramen and plans to eat her leftovers for dinner. I came here with a friend to check things out and this place is tucked away in the plaza and has PLENTY of parking. When entering the place is pretty small and we were sat next to the door. The waiter was checking in a bit more often than we liked as we were looking and deciding between menu options. Overall, we decided to go with takoyaki, the burger steak, and the donkatsu curry. I loved the takoyaki and loved that it had big chunks of octopus in it. I wish it was a bit more crispy on the outside and that it wasn't about $8 for 4 balls. My friend had the burger steak and enjoyed it. It was pretty big for her and she took half of it home. The chef came out and asked if the burger was okay as he thought it might have been burnt a little but we thought it was perfect! The donkatsu curry was great and super flavorful. It's a new spot that specializes in Japanese and Korean style Curry! They also offer a variety of appetizers, donburi and ramen. I love how the interior is filled with visually pleasing decors of plants! We started with Ika Geso and 5 Spiced Edamame. Most of the time fried squid is overly battered but it was made perfectly and went well with three of their dipping sauces. I love how flavorful the edamame was! My order of the Unagi Kamameshi is like an eel bibimbap. When they brought the cast iron pot to the table it was shut so tight I needed help to get it open. The eel was very tasty blended with the rice! I also tried a couple bites of the Japanese Donkatsu Curry. The curry gave the fried cutlet so much flavor on top of the perfectly cooked egg! The server politely informed us of the delay due to being short staffed and a couple of larger parties ahead of us, but it was not too long of a wait. The interior space is relatively small for a restaurant so it can easily get crowded after their grand opening. Overall, the service was good and their staff were helpful and friendly so definitely worth it! read more
Overall: 4 stars Overall good curry/donkatsu option in the Chantilly area. Not the best I've had but plan on coming back whenever I am craving Japanese food/curry/donkatsu. Food Quality: 4 stars Ordered Chicken Katsu Curry, Karaage. Karaage was good (not great) and very moist/tender. Just wish it was crispier (more flaky than crispy). The Chicken Katsu was the same way. Wish the portion size of the Chicken Katsu was larger (for the price point). Service/Experience: 3.5 stars OK service - not great/not bad. Pretty interior. You can tell a lot of thought and care was put into every detail of this restaurant. Thank goodness for the grand opening banner outside or we would not have known it was here. The place feels more like restaurant than a bar. It's a cute place which would be great for a date night. Appetizer Hamburger steak It was pretty good even though the portion was small. Entree Donkatsu rice dish I would get this again. Ask for the spice tray if they don't bring one. It's fun to try new things. Dessert Green tea cheesecake and green tea crepe cake. I wish there were more than 5 stars, because this place would fill them all! Just newly opened, Karé Bar is a Japanese and Korean fusion izakaya with a menu full of temptation for those familiar with Japanese staple menu items. Upon waking in, you're greeted by a very typical to Japan cafe setting: light woods, bright walls, and soft decor create an immediate relaxing sensation. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly, even as it got busier. Our group ordered a few different things to get a better idea of the variety, and we weren't disappointed.
