I don't often give 5 stars but I'm slightly in love with this new permanent spot (and new to me in general). Tried spicy tonkatsu, black garlic oil ramen and stuffed mushroom! I love the black garlic ramen - flavorful and rich broth. I tried the tonkatsu broth and I do think I prefer the ones in Japan but again we're in Alaska . Chasu (meat) is very flavorful and great mix of meat and fat Personally, I prefer a firmer noodle and this one is slightly softer not enough to deter me from coming back! And the spicy sauce has a strong umami flavor but it IS SPICY The stuffed mushroom is flavorful and the sauce is light teriyaki like and definitely worth a try! read more

The staff didn't rush their customers that were already eating. The food was delicious! I had only captured what I ate which was the chicken katsu curry, and it came with miso soup and salad. My friends had tonkatsu ramen and the spicy ramen which they both said it was delicious. We ordered a side of Mochiko Chicken. It had a very gingery taste to it, so it wasn't something we liked. While we love ginger, on the mochiko itself, it wasn't our cup of tea. Oh and their hot green tea was amazing! We would definitely go back again! read more

Some of the ramen I've had since visiting Japan, and definitely the best I've had in Anchorage! I hope this isn't the last we will be seeing of Kami! I think they have great potential to be Anchorage's first izakaya!! That Karaage plus an ice cold Asahi is all I keep thinking about. We dined on the last day it was open around like 3:30, and the place was packed. Lucky for us we beat the rush, and we're seated in about 10 minutes. Even though it was super busy the service was good, and our food came out fairly quickly! We ordered a spicy tonkotsu ramen, pork charshu buns, and a large chicken karaage. The ramen broth was very rich and savory. The noodles were cooked well with firmness to them. My only complaint is that the chashu in my ramen was a bit dry. It had a good spiciness to it. I would've preferred mine a bit spicier, but it was still very good. I thought the ramen was a great portion for the price! The chashu buns were delicious. Had great flavor, and the pork was very tender. The karaage was also very good. Nice and crispy with good seasoning. I hope Kami is able to do another pop up, or find a more permanent space! Do yourself a favor and go here!! We got the crispy gyoza for an appetizer and I loved the dipping sauce it came with. For mains we got the Tan Tan Ramen and the Chicken Katsu curry and it was phenomenal! The ramen was so creamy and the perfect spice level and the curry was so comforting and flavorful with the perfect crispy chicken to go with it. Last chance! Today is the last day for a legit bowl of ramen before it sells out. Flavorful broth and soft roasted pork. I recommend the tonkotsu and miso broth. My partner and I stopped by last week for a bowl. I got tonkotsu ramen which was alright, not much to be said except the seaweed strip is literally the same thing we feed fish at my job My partner got a chicken rice bowl but the rice was hard and undercooked, chicken dry and seasoning left to be desired. When we first arrived we were sat at a reasonable time but the crowd that followed had to wait due to the ordering system having been changed from servers to a kiosk. The kiosk felt like a cheap cop out and the servers were confused and looked overwhelmed with the sudden influx of people and no way to handle It. We also ordered the takoyaki but they were put in a to-go container (a mixup from the kiosk) and the takoyaki were still raw in the middle. I've had their takoyaki before and they are my favorite out of the few other restaurants that offer it but had they been cooked properly they would've been the best thing we had. All in all I'll give it a 3/10 and probably won't be coming back for the winter rush due to all the changes and no love in their ramen anymore. If you're looking for a better overall experience with ramen made with love when you inevitably have to wait for a seat at kami, just go to naruto it's literally a block or two away. read more

We have enjoyed Kami Ramen several times now. We have had both takeout and dine-in with great experiences. For dine-in, service is attentive and food comes out quick. It's always busy there so there's often a wait but we typically wait in our vehicle and wait for a text message since there isn't much waiting room in the small restaurant. LOVE the Kuromayu ramen, it's delicious and I love their on the skinnier side noodles. Broth is rich and flavorful. We enjoy their appetizers and my husband always gets the katsu curry. So happy to have this place in Anchorage! Admittedly I never tried the other ramen places in town because in all of their photos the ramen eggs aren't runny. I need my ramen eggs to be gooey on the inside haha. This place has the best ramen eggs! They marinate them in a sauce that is so flavorful, salty and delicious. Do yourself a favor and order an extra egg for your ramen. The flavor of the broth is incredible, full of depth and savory goodness. I really shouldn't be writing this review when I'm this hungry. The noodles I'm pretty sure are homemade and are a perfect chewy consistency. I got the vegetarian ramen and the tofu and mushrooms are delicious too. The tofu has a perfectly thin crispy outside. The food is amazing. My husband has tried a few of their meat ramens, I think tantan and tonkatsu, and has loved them as well. The food is perfect. The service is good and prompt! Both times I've been there it's been super busy but the staff is very efficient at getting folks seated and taken care of. It is pretty small in here, resembles a traditional ramen shop with much of the seating being stools wrapping around the kitchen, and the seats are pretty cozy and close together. They have some tables, but I think try to only give them to parties larger than 2. What I'm about to say is probably sacrilegious to true ramen lovers, but I hate the sound of slurping. I know traditionally you slurp ramen but it fills me with rage and stress to hear people slurping lol. So keep that in mind if you have sound sensitivities and get sat next to a loud slurper at the counter seating. I had the great fortune to sit next to someone who enjoyed a very loud meal--but hey, I guess that is another testament to their great food-- you wouldn't slurp anything that isn't delicious. If you're going in a group of 2 or alone, you likely will get sat at the counter. So maybe bring some headphones if you don't want to hear people eating haha. Definitely give this place a try if you're craving a delicious hot meal! They have other non-ramen things on the menu too like rice and katsu curry. It was my partner's and my second time going to Kami Ramen. Last time I got the Toncatsu Ramen, which is very good. I wanted to try something else and got the Shio Ramen this time with chicken. SO delicious--it reminds me of the Japanese Ramen I had when I lived in South Korea. We got there at 6:00 on a Saturday night and waited only 5-10 minutes. The servers are very kind and fast. This was my first time eating at Kami Ramen. I really wanted to like this restaurant because of the high ratings, however, I think there is room for improvement. I tried 5 fairly standard Japanese dishes: Edamame - served cold covered with a strange sugary sweet sour sauce. I could only eat 1 pod because it was overly sweet. In the future I would ditch the sauce and instead get plain, hot, edamame with just sea salt. Gyoza - what was supposed to be an appetizer, was forgotten and not served to us till the end of our meal. While the extra wrapper covering over all 6 pieces was interesting to look at, it doesnt allow for a proper sear on each individual gyoza. The filling was average in flavor, and it was brought to us cold. Chasu Sandwich - This is chashu meat with sauce inside a pre-frozen bao bun. Ive had good pre-made bao buns before, but found these to be dry and not as fluffy as I am used to. Perhaps the bun needs to be heated/steamed a bit longer. As for the filling, I thought that the sweet sauce was overwhelming and drowning out the meat. Chashu takes a long time to cook, and it would be nice to be able to enjoy the flavor of the pork. Perhaps, order with the sauce on the side, and ask that this be served warm. Chicken Katsu - this was the best dish we ate during our visit. It was cooked perfectly, covered in light, crisp, golden panko breading, moist chicken, served hot out of the fryer, with a decent katsu sauce. Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen - when you have ramen in the name of your business, it better be the star. This $16 bowl of ramen was instead a disappointment and I could not eat much of it. It was about 4 degrees and cold last night in Anchorage and I was looking forward to a great bowl of piping hot ramen. This broth was served lukewarm with no steam emanating from my bowl. It was lacking in flavor, and the rich unctuousness that one should expect from any decent ramen house that takes over 12 hours to cook their own homemade broth and should hit your tongue with an umami bomb. Their spicy tonkatsu broth is not spicy. Proper ramen noodles should be a bit al dente with a little chew to them. The ramen noodles we got were soggy, and over cooked. The portion size of the main toppings were disappointing, sigh...2 paperthin but delicious slices of chashu pork,and half of 1 creamy yolk egg. I had even added an extra egg for $1.50 and only got the second half. Talk about mark-up! Umm, one dozen eggs at Fred Meyers or Carrs in Nov-2022 costs $2.19 or 18 cents per 1 egg, or 9 cents for half of 1 egg (a 1,567 % mark-up). I have no problem paying good money for good food and good service, but if I am paying $16 for a bowl of ramen, I expect at least 3-4 ounces of pork and 1 whole egg, properly cooked ramen, and steaming hot broth. I am not the first reviewer to be disappointed in temperature and taste. Please raise the fire on your broth pots or dont use cold par-cooked noodles. Please note that my review is based on my experience of eating Japanese food in Hawaii, where I grew up. We had a lot of obasan who created oishii homemade dishes, as well as fancy and humble ramen or saimin shops to choose from...always hot broth, always fresh, slightly chewy noodles, always generous toppings commensurate with the price. I know the selection of eateries is limited in Alaska, and you may not even know that you are missing out. The good things about Kami Ramen are the friendly, hard-working staff, the clean, well-lit, lively restaurant (it quickly became packed after we arrived). Just ignore the loud blow-torch sound in the background that they like to use to char the meat. I hope to try Kami Ramen again and have a better experience and a steaming hot bowl of ramen. read more

First time at this place and it a small place we actually missed it when driving down Spenard. The place has limited seating, friendly service, clean environment, and our orders came out timely. Seating is about 5-6 tables but have several stools bar side for extra seating. The food was tasty, flavorful, and the portions is good. With the limited seating , we noticed during our dinner that people were waiting to be seated by the entrance. This doesn't seem to be a place where you can relax and take your time eating. There was a sense of having to rush there so other people can be seated. I guess you would have to expect that for eating during the weekend. The food here can't be beat. My partner had the tonkostu ramen, and I got one of the tomato fried rices, so we could try a selection of what they had to offer. We also got the pork chasu sandwiches as appetizers, and they were honestly worth it just for those. The ramen broth was rich and savory, and the fried rice was cooked perfectly, and the tomato added a nice acidity to what is usually an otherwise very heavy dish. The only thing I would say is that I hope they are able to move into a larger location one day, as the current location is very, very limiting in how many groups can be sat at a time. I would honestly say that is currently the only shortcoming of Kami ramen, and isn't even worth taking off a star as you can put yourself on the waitlist beforehand. This restaurant is kind of easy to miss (we missed it the first time LOL) but once you get in it's pretty easy. The restaurant itself was smaller than we thought it was going to be, but the space is managed well. It didn't feel very crowded although there was a lot of people when we went. The owner was so nice to us, and very attentive. He was just a delightful person. My mom ordered the kuromayo ramen (but spicy) and I ordered the spicy tonkatsu ramen and asked for it to extra spicy. We also ordered a drink (passion fruit tea with aloe vera) and it came out so fast- like really fast. We were surprised at how fast it came out. The ramen didn't take long either, and it had such a nice presentation too! However, although I ordered it extra spicy, the ramen wasn't spicy enough. My mom thought the same for her ramen. However, the owner came around to us and asked us if the ramen was spicy enough- and when we told him it wasn't, he brought us the spicy sauce so we can make it spicer! :) The ramen became so much better once we added more of the spicy sauce. I highly recommend you do it if you can't live without the heat! Overall, I would recommend this place if you're looking for some Japanese ramen. read more

I can usually eat and go within 30 minutes and I have never had to wait for a seat (at the bar). Re: prices, sure I wish it was a couple dollars cheaper, but it is up to any restaurant to set the price that will keep them happy and in business. I had a frustrating experience due to unfair handling of the waiting list. I was the 4th customer waiting outside, but after the electronic waitlist started between seating the 1st and 2nd customers, a 5th customer who arrived after me rudely cut ahead and was seated first. Despite voicing concerns politely, the staff insisted, disregarding those of us already waiting. Both the 3rd group and myself left due to the unfair treatment. I'm a firm believer that everyone deserves a second sometimes third chance. this would be my second visit and I'm sad to say it hasn't improved. I'm well aware there is virtually no choices for Ramen shops in the entire state of Alaska but that doesn't excuse the over salted food and the price gouging. It is absolutely preposterous to be charging upwards of $10 for the smallest portion of appetizers. It is imperative you have servers that truly understand what your patrons are ordering down to the specifics. Repeating something over and over again only to have an order come out wrong left such a terrible impression for our party we won't be coming back. The chicken curry we received was under seasoned underwhelming and lack of actual chicken was pretty disheartening. I'm assuming all of the seasoning went into the Ramen as the Ramen itself was over seasoned.
