I liked it a lot! The fish was fresh and the rolls were delicious. My one qualm was that the Crab Cheese Balls did not come with the typical sweet chili sauce that restaurants typically provide, didn't loveee the lemon sauce. But otherwise good!! read more

Great food and service! A little small. Not good for bigger groups of more than 4. It's good to order a few rolls and an entree because the sushi rolls are a little small. read more

Delish! We went last night and had a great dinner!! My fiancée is hard to impress when it comes to asian food and he loves it! Get the tuna tower! It's amazing now I could eat the entire thing (which is large!) by myself!! The cheese balls are like their take on crab Rangoon and they DO NOT disappoint!!! There is actual crab in them and so fresh and yummy!!! The shasimi platter was good but not outstanding. Kaymeya ramen was delish!! The pork belly had great flavor and the broth was delish! 911 shrimp tempura roll was great the kaymeya special spicy sauce was yummy!!!! The only draw back is I wish they were Byob. They don't have a good wine list and I would love to take my own fabulous bottle!!!! read more

Yay, found my new go-to sushi spot! I had wanted to try Kameya for years (literally - not kidding) and it was everything I could've wanted. Had the pork belly buns as an app and they were sooooo good. Lava roll was super fresh and delicious. The sweet owner (?) brought over an incredible kaiso salad on the house - not because anything went wrong but as a "thanks for stopping by." Our server was spot on, the music was great. The restaurant is very small which actually makes it romantic, especially with the string lights along the ceiling that look like stars in the sky :) Most definitely going back. read more

I was expecting great sushi when we went to Kameya last Saturday, and I was not disappointed. We ordered the beef ramen along with 3 rolls between the two of us: the Dragon roll, the Red Moon, and the Italian Roll. Everything was delicious and the sushi tasted fresh, but I hesitated to give it a 5 star review because I wasn't blown away, so to speak. I will go back for sure, and may update my review again after we try some more rolls!! One note- I was primarily expecting to be blown away by the dragon roll, as it is usually a favorite of mine, and while it was good, it only had 5 (too large to fit in your mouth whole) pieces- two of which were GINORMOUS fried end pieces stuffed with cream cheese (see photo). I only bring this up because we tend to go to sushi with another couple of friends, and this odd number (and weird end pieces) makes it tough to share without having to buy two expensive rolls that are the same... Overall, still some good quality food. P.s. The place is tiny, so make a reservation! read more

I was in the mood for ramen, so my husband and I came here for dinner while we were in town. This place wasn't far from our hotel and we like neighborhoody restaurants. After reading all the great reviews, I figured we couldn't go wrong. This place is cozy and small and had a nice vibe. I got the Kameya Ramen and my husband ordered the Nabeyaki Udon. We both loved our soups. The pork in my ramen was perfect. It really hit the spot. On the menu, I noticed that my husband's udon was supposed to have chicken in it, but when it came out, it had tofu in it instead. I told him he should complain, but fortunately, he really likes tofu a lot. I think it's a misprint in the menu. They should fix that. I really wanted to say something, but my husband told me not to say anything because he was happy with his soup. For dessert, we got almond and mango ice cream. They were both excellent, but I thought the almond was better. They were so so good! I would definitely come back again the next time I'm in Chicago. I want to try some sushi rolls and other dishes on their menu. Everything sounded good. read more

Went here for dinner tonight, and it was an excellent choice! My friend and I tried the Bibimbap because the sign listed it as a top 25 must-try from Huffington Post, and it was superb. I had mine with brown rice and tofu, and the sunny-side up egg on top made the dish even more delicious. The serving size was plentiful. The dish was $18 but worth it, in my opinion. The restaurant is a little small and can only seat maybe 30 people total, so it's cozy but still a fun atmosphere. The serving staff was also friendly. I'd recommend this restaurant to friends. read more

we ordered the tuna tartar tower to start with. we loved the presentation, the tower is made with layers of avocado, tuna tartare, and salsa sauce, feels a bit fusion, but it tasted good, very flavorful. The chips that come with is oily, but tastes good we ordered the 911 salmon roll as we were curious to see what this 911 sauce is, but it is pretty much just like sriracha sauce the house special roll and the ninja turtle roll is nothing special, ingredients are fresh, flavor is nothing exceptional the ramen is such small portion, but we loved the broth!! and i love how they have a lot of different veggie in it, healthy! we ordered 1 appetizer, 3 rolls and 2 ramens to split among the 4 of us...but it was not nearly enough...if it weren't for the small portion, i would give this place a 4 star read more

Came here for dinner Friday night with a group of 6. We called ahead and were told the wait will be about 45 mins. We showed up a little earlier and went across the street to wait. They called us when our table was ready. The place is very small (less than 20 people seating). Once seated we ordered two appetizers, the cheese curds and the bulgogi lettuce wraps. They were both amazing. As my meal I got the ramen and my friend got sushi. Everything was cooked very well and flavorful. The food came out fast and the service was amazing. I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a good Asian place. read more

Excellent little sushi and ramen spot. I have been to Kameya several times since I discovered it (thanks to yelp!) back in January! The owners are so nice and the food is really good. I love ramen and sushi, so when I found a spot that does both (and does them well) I was so excited. I am a big fan of the nabekayi udon. I had never had such a good udon soup before trying this! I have wanted to try the ramens they offer but have continued to order the nabeyaki udon because it is so good!!! My other two favorite items- the lava roll and the dynamite roll. Amazing. Definitely a hidden gem. read more

I got the vegetable udon ramen. The broth was fantastic, not too salty and good umami flavor. The bamboo shoots were great. The egg was cooked to perfection. I also got the avocado makimono and they were fabulous. Highly recommend this place! read more

Local favorite. Right down the block from me. Consistently excellent sushi rolls. Great ramen. Very small, I would recommend calling ahead.

New neighborhood gem! A few of us went for a girls night of sushi and BYOWine :) Miso soup and sushi rolls were delicious! We tried 4 different rolls and all were very good! The owners are so friendly and happy - such a pleasant experience. After the check was dropped off, they brought us homemade almond ice cream on the house. It was SO good and so sweet of them to do! Best sushi in my life ever!! I've had sushi throughout Chicago and in Tsukiji market in Japan but Kameya, hands down best experience, best taste, best presentation I've ever had. Fish is incredibly fresh. Be sure to try the Aburi Sake Toro that's torched. And the tamago which sounds incredibly simple but taste is on point with complex multi-layered finish. Fresh and delicious!!! We were pleasantly surprised with this neighborhood gem. We got takeout. Kameya ramen and vegetable ramen. Excellent ramen, now one of my favorites. The ingredients tastes so fresh and the broth was really flavorful sooo good. Good noodles too. We got the spicy garlic to add in - def recommend. Also got sushi. The lava and dynamite. I come here at least once a week. The servers are so sweet, but the sushi. THE SUSHI. It's so good. Every time. Start with the cheese balls for an app, sweeter and lighter than your average crab rangoon. Then get the jalapeño spicy tuna cheese. I know cream cheese in sushi is so Americanized, but that's because it's delicious :) The white ocean roll is great, and you can't go wrong with the sashimi. So fresh! I've yet to try the ramen but I'll be back next week to give it a shot. Thanks, Kameya, for always being on point! read more

Kameya Sushi & Ramen - Sashimi appetizer, so fresh! - Sushi Bars Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Kameya is one of my favorite Japanese restaurant in Chicago. My bf and I always get the tuna tartare tower and the beef ramen, and that's enough for both of us. The consistency of flavors and textures are always 5/5, we definitely crave for their food from time to time. We've tried their rolls and sashimi as well and they were good too! This is a small mom and pop place about 8 total of tables , about half of those are 2 seaters, so this is not good for group gathering more than 4 people. Other than that this is a great first date place not too fancy but not too casual. It's a little intimate since the place is so small with dark decor with little lights, so you're force to cozy up with your date . read more

Best damn sushi for the price in LP. Is there better sushi in the world? Absolutely. Would I go out of my way to travel from another part of Chicago to eat here? No I wouldn't. But I live in LP and the sushi is really good and it's not too expensive as far as sushi goes. Also the ramen is delicious. read more

OM NOM NOM, such yummy sushi! I placed an order to go last night for my family and couldn't have been happier. Kameya is a great, tiny little sushi place. On busy nights, I can definitely see myself just getting something to go because the space only holds about 7-8 tables. Our order was done super quickly and the portion sizes were very reasonable. We ordered the 911 shrimp roll, the mango martini roll, the red moon roll, gyoza, and some of the best miso soup I've ever had. We only ordered one soup for my sister and I was PISSED i missed out on one for myself. Won't make that same mistake and neither should you. Gyoza was also perfect and I'd order it again. I loved the 911 shrimp but that shit is hot. I love spicy so that's fine, but it was hot even without wasabi. The red moon roll was good, but I don't think I'd order it again. The mango martini is sweet, but in a good way. A different take on sushi than I've had but I appreciated the creativity. I saw a bunch of people with the tuna tartar special and it looked amazing. If I'd know about it ahead of time, I'd have gotten one of those too. read more

Delicious! I stopover multiples times and this quaint little Japanese/Korean restaurant is as good as it gets and I love it more every time. First, I'd recommend the tuna tartar tower, Jalapeño spicy tuna cheese, and the Kameya BBQ pork buns (they're a must!) for appetizers. Then, for the entrees the hot stone bibimbop and Kameya Ramen (both served either veggie, pork, beef, or chicken) are the most popularly sought after (and in agreement they are my favorite); however, only promoted on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thrusdays, and Sundays (but there are no restrictions on delivery). Regardless of any flaws one might find, I find this restaurants to be one of my all time favorite places and one of the most recommended restaurants. read more

My favorite sushi place in the city! The ambiance is EVERYTHING here. It is very small inside, but it makes it really cozy and intimate. It is such a cute place to go on a date or meet up a friend. I love the red decor and twinkly lights on the ceiling. The sushi is great here, but I always get the Kameya ramen! I am a huge ramen person, and this is pretty much the perfect ramen dish. So pleasantly surprised! We had such a jones for ramen tonight, but I'd loaned my car to a friend, so we had to rely on delivery, which isn't such a big deal, but when it comes to ramen, we had our concerns. Our worries were unfounded; the ramen was hot, delicious, (albeit probably five times our sodium allotment for the day) the noodles weren't overcooked, the egg was still liquid, and the portion was plentiful. Ideally, you want your ramen on site, but this was a very satisfactory alternative. read more

Knocking off a star because it has been my go to take out sushi but this last time, the sushi tasted a fishy and chewy (perhaps a bit old). It is usually very fresh. The tuna tatake was so delicious. Fresh cut tuna seared to perfection. The beef bulgogi lettuce wraps were delicious. The meat was seasoned perfectly. Wish I had the stomach to eat beef bimbibop based on the seasoning of the meat of the wraps! Our main dish was the sushi. We went with the Kameya roll and 911 shrimp tempura. So good! Must get their sushi. The kameya roll was huge, not a single bite like other sushi. The 911 sauce had a good kick to it! 4 stars for small space and uncomfortable chairs. So amazing!! Husband and I came here on Sunday for an early dinner. Inside is small, but decorated very cute. They have specials listed on the walls, twinkle lights on the ceiling, and the sushi bar right there so you can watch them make your delicious food! We ended up ordering the following and I recommend it all! The hamachi with ponzu, the mango and crab roll, and the bibimbop chicken bowl with organic brown rice (husband got his own bowl with white rice). I'm 9 months pregnant, and the sweet server/chef threw in a free cucumber/seaweed salad, as well as almond ice cream for dessert. She said "it's for baby!" Lol. We will definitely be back! Can't wait to come back after baby is born so I can go crazy on their sushi! read more

It's a tiny restaurant and it's easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for. There are probably only ten seats so plan accordingly. Tempura shrimp appetizer (2/5) - batter was not as crunchy as I like, a little oily, but the shrimp was good. The dipping sauce was a little watery and could have been more bold. Pork bbq ramen (~$11 & 3/5) - really good broth, not too salty. Noodles and veggies had a good flavor and consistency. It's a pretty big portion. I'm still not on the ramen bandwagon though. I might be over trying to figure out what all the hype is about. Bulgogi (~$13 & 5/5) - yummmmmmmmmm. The flavor explodes in your mouth. All of the veggies are soaked in the sauce but is perfect with a spoonful of rice. Yum yum yum. A little pricy. I'd come back for the bulgogi but probably not the ramen. Service is friendly. read more

I'm hesitant to write an honest review, because this gem deserves to have patrons lining up outside for its yummy treats. And I selfishly don't want to have crowds at our beloved hole-in-the-wall. That said, there are probably only 16 seats in the place, so make a reservation on peak-days. There are very few restaurants that create unique dishes that earn a spot on my cravings hitlist--the Tuna Tower is one of them. When the hankering comes it must be satiated. We've never been disappointed with the rolls, and the bibimbop is tops! Only a family-owned business is with this level of hospitality and care. After only a couple of visits, we were recognized and treated with a new saki on the menu. They have been known to giggle when I inevitably hit my head on one of the paper lamps, like old neighbors. I forgive them :) read more

KAMEYA! you totally would have won my heart if... the prices were cheaper why is ramen so expensive? you can get a $7 pho in chicago but ramen? double the price! its outrageous i guess i'll stick to getting ramen in California, which is about $8 you really should consider lowering your prices but Kameya, you must already get enough business to not want to =( but i did enjoy my birthday dinner there i ordered the Kameya Ramen i believe? broth was very tastey, meat was a nice perfect tender texture and the noodles were good and had a nice chew to them i LOVE the fishcakes! and egg my friend who is very picky on food, and has tried ramen liked it as well and agreed that the broth&meat were tastey! I'll be back another time in the far future when i have more money maybe.. hahaha but to others that don't have price in mind. its DELICIOUS! I like to start every review at an even 3 stars and work from there. Here it goes: - The ramen was very good. With that said, I have never had real ramen (of the NOT Top variety) before, so I have no frame of reference how good it actually was. But it wasn't bad. +0 stars. - The ambiance was lovely and the lighting was romantic. +1 star. - My mom came to dinner late and inconvenienced everyone. It was somewhat annoying. -1 star. - The rolls and edamame we had for appetizers were delicious and satisfying. +1 star. - When we were fighting with politeness over who was going to pay the bill, the waitress was confused and didn't know what to do. -1 star. - There is a possibility that I may end up marrying said waitress at some point in the future. In order to avoid future tension, and let her know how much I love her, +1 star. TOTAL STAR COUNT: 4 Stars out of 4 read more
