Kalypso is consistently one of the best restaurants in Buffalo and in my opinion the only good Caribbean spot. Try the oxtail and jerk chicken combo!

We were in the area and wanted to try something new. Jamaican sounded good. It was hard to order due to lack of online menu or social media updates anywhere. So we ordered their two main dishes the (large) Jerk Chicken and the (small) Curry Chicken. Upon picking up the food, the diner was pretty dark and seemed closed at first. The dining room itself is kind of small and dingy. However, the service was nice and the prices weren't bad. So I took my food and was on my way. The food was phenomenal. The portions were very generous. Meat just fell from the bones in both dishes. The Jerk Chicken was spicy with a strong sweet accent. And the Curry Chicken was super yummy. It was so good that my boyfriend and I finished it all in one night! I wish access to the menu was available. But other than that, I would definitely recommend this restaurant, their Jamaican food is SO GOOD.

Came here for some soul food with the misses. Tiny little spot with some decent food. Nothing blew us away and the flavors were rather bland. Pretty large portion and solid fill you up food, but not "soulfull" enough for us! We tried the ox tail large dinner, the large curry chicken dinner and we tried the beef pattys which were my favorite item overall and to me the most flavorful. They close at 6pm on the day we visited (Thursday) and I have to point out that the walls and front seating area was pretty filthy. There were also a ton of sharp bone shards in the curry chicken, so be careful when you eat it.

Seeeee now they need to stop playing with me! Closed! Huh! They are closed alot when I drive by trying to get good food from them! I went by three days ago and boom bam whoop! They were open. I didn't even plan on getting food from there because i expected them to be closed. I thought for a while that they were shut down. I guess I just miss they're open hours more than not. Anywho I had to take a star away because of availability. I enjoy and have for years enjoyed the food and service here. They aren't overly polite like trying to hard but they are nice and don't rush you to order. They have $5 lunch specials that run during the week. Jerk chicken, curry chicken and something else, I forget. The jerk is my absolute favorite from them, although I'm not a dark meat fan, they don't sell breast meat here. I've learned to enjoy it hahahaha. There's a fair amount of white meat in the thigh so I'll be okay. I don't eat skin off of poultry, so I take the meat from inside and soak up the sauce off of the skin. It's so good. I love to eat the sides together. Okay wait for it ... Juicy, sweet delicious plantains mmmmmmmm, yummy and deliciousness that savors on my palate long after it's gone intensifying my craving for more. There is a rice and beans combo topped with uncooked cabbage, carrots and thinly sliced cucumber OMG! The flavors together collide in my mouth and form together as one of the greatest tastes I will ever adventure with. The curry chicken is okay. I need more flavor from that. It's not spicy at all and doesn't have too much to offer in terms of flavor for my tastes buds. It's not nasty at all it just doesn't represent much to brag about. In other meals not on he lunch menu. The red snapper is very delicious only one draw back ... It has a boat load of bones. It's good though. I ordered it a few times. I appreciate the flavor, you need time to eat it too because you have to pick through the bones. Don't be surprised either by the fish starring back at you. The head and eyes come attached. It doesn't bother me but if it bothers you they can cut the head off for you. I've had the stew chicken a few times. It could use more seasoning as well in my opinion it's good but I like a blast of flavor from my food. You may wonder why four out of five stars if I feel they lack flavoring, well because I like the food. Especially the jerk chicken and sides. They get five stars. I like the customer service as well. They also take debt and credit, I appreciate that! I love the lunch prices and portion amount! So there's more to me reviewing a place that just the food that determines their star rating. I'll be back there in the future for more food and service!

Not bad at all! The curry chicken dinner was delicious and flavorful a bit on the salty side and like the other reviewer stated the meal does have a lot of tiny bones that constantly have to be picked out while eating the food. Not cool lol. I've never had that experience with a curry chicken meal EVER! Not sure why this is happening but that should be an area of correction on part of the cook and management. Also, the cabbage was more like coleslaw mix than the traditional cooked Jamaican cabbage. I probably wouldn't order it again at this rate, but I love supporting small businesses. I'd try another meal from Kalypso, but not the curry chicken again.

Don't go by how the place looks. It serves decent food. I ordered the jerk chicken entree (small) to-go and it was $8. I was a little disappointed after tasting the curry/ sauce/ gravy in which the chicken was in. It was a little too sweet and not jerk chicken type (i have had the same dish in Jamaica so that's my reference). Anyhow the chicken was actually very nicely done. It was probably grilled first then cooked in that gravy thing. It was served with rice and beans and everything together tasted fine. It was a ton a food accompanied with some salad. They forgot my fried plantain though :( I wish I had asked them to just give me the grilled chicken on rice. Would have been more delicious that way. The place is small but clean. The service is prompt. I want to try their goat curry next!

Jerk chicken. $7. Five at lunch time.

What do you call it when the moon covers the sun while you eat at this place? A total e-kalypso of the sun. What do you call it when you use this place to sit and crack codes? Kalypsography. When your hair keeps going in your mouth while you eat here, what can you use to stop it? Hair Kalyps. What is a Latin Term that was invented by the chef here? Kalypso Facto! OK enough. What to get: Jerk Chicken with extra Jerk Sauce. So I am thinking of changing my performer name from Fox Elipsus to Fox Kalypso for two reasons. (1) I want to conquer the untapped Jamaican market. And I don't mean sell records in Jamaica. Oh no. I mean I literally want to own a market on the corner of a main street in Kingston or Montego Bay. Hook me up pls. Kthxbye. (2) I looooooove this place. The food is phenom and that's all you need to know baby. This is my favourite Jamaican place in town, and one of the best Jamaican places I have tried in the whole country. The patty is very good, the amazing fruit drinks from the fridge are remarkably awesome. The Curry Chicken is good, but probably not as good as the spicier one from Dr Bird's across the street, and probably the one on Utica St. at the Soul Food place too. But their Jerk Chicken is the piece-de-resistance. It is fall-off-the-bone-delicious, it is very cheap, $7 for a small which is actually large... it is beyond amazing. The sauce is so hot and fiery that it will rock your world, but they'll give that to you on the side if you want. They really know how to do on-the-bone chicken. It's become a favourite place of mine despite the fact that I only recently discovered it. I am a massive fan of Kalypso and would recommend that everyone and their mother and their mother's friends and extended family try it. And as for all the delicious drinks in their fridge, the Pineapple Guava is the really incredible one that you should go for. But all of them are very good. Straight in as one of my fave places in Buffalo to eat. Bravo.

    Small jerk pork $7.95

Fortunately, the restaurant that we were supposed to go to didn't accept credit cards. [So, FYI, Kalypso takes credit cards!] Since we were nearby and I remembered reading about this place on Yelp, I suggested that we go here instead. My friends and I were so happy with our decision! The restaurant is really casual. There are booths and tables & chairs. You order at the window, pay, and then they bring it out to you in a takeout box (even if you are dining in). Food: Small Jerk Pork $7.95: spicy & flavorful pork served with seasoned rice & beans, slaw, and a plantain. Wow. This dish is spicyyyy, but soo yummmy! The slaw was also delicious and provided a nice balance to the dish. Absolutely loved it. The pork was tender and perfectly cooked. I had leftovers for lunch and dinner! Ahhh i want moreee! Both of my friends really enjoyed their dishes too! They got a shrimp dish and a pepper steak dish. We sat here until they closed. Even though they were locking up and cleaning, they let us sit there just talking. The owners were super friendly! I will definitely return to try other things on their menu!

If you want real Dominican food that you can at least stomach without being disgusted, try Latino Cuisine at the Galleria Mall. We came here and got the mac and cheese, ribs with yellow rice, and the fried pork bites with yellow rice. First, we ordered the mac and cheese. It came once we were done with our two first meals, which we couldn't even finish. It was basically a soup with a cup of actual macaroni; the rest was just cheese liquid, very disgusting, and it doesn't look at all like what they advertise on DoorDash/Uber Eats. The rice wasn't actual Dominican rice; it had corn in it. They had no moro, and when I asked for it, he put huge brown beans with the sauce that ruined the rice. Also, they only had rice with corn or white rice. The fried pork bites were really dry; they needed a sauce. The only thing we liked were the ribs slathered in BBQ sauce, which was still mediocre. The service was awful, trying to rush you into making a decision just for the food to take ages. He got annoyed by other customers asking questions and modifications. They only had one person in the back cooking, and if they don't "feel like it," it doesn't get done even if it's on the menu. At one point, it felt like we were getting punked because everyone else was getting four plates worth, and they had amazing reviews online. Huge money waste! Almost 50 dollars--back home, I'll tell you, this would have been 35 max. Everything was off from the service to the food in other places where Dominican food is common like nyc or Pennsylvania allentown people who work are respectful and make good food. They bring that Dominican experience over to the U.S, this really sucked. Sadly no pictures taken as we threw the food out and this was a couple days ago. It honestly felt like the big guy at the front was antagonizing us after the mac and cheese, every second coming over and asking if we like the food. Overall, horrible food, flies and mosquitoes everywhere at the restaurant, weird seating, and a huge waste of money if you like actual, real, authentic Dominican food.
