They should just go all the way and call this place the Jamaican Hendrix Experience. I mean they're only one word away, right? When you're in there, you have to address the server (Joe) by his first name, so. "Hey Joe". Then when you try the food you'll be like "You know you're a great little foodmaker! Foxy! Foxy". And then finally when you're too big to get out of the door - you'll be like, "there must be some way out of here!" Actually there is a tower nearby at the Veterans Hospital that kind of looks like a watchtower and it usually has birds all along it. Or we could just say that some Bailey Ave. locals have done some gang style Graffiti in the toilets and say that their trademark spray-painting is "All Along The Washroom." Take your pick. What to get: Jerk Chicken. What else: Oxtail. One of the best Caribbean - West Indian - Jamaican - Island places to eat in the region. Everything is hearty, hot, wet, filling and delicious. And made with love. The Jerk Chicken is not as spicy and flavourful as Kalypso (my favourite in town) but it's a bigger portion, it's heavier, it's hotter, it's much wetter (especially if you ask for extra saucy, and sauce over the rice), and it's significantly different enough for them both to be considered different dishes, really. The Jerk Chicken here needs to be experienced. It has a whole world of flavours, it's more subtle than you'd expect, but it's extraordinarily satisfying when you're hungry. You can't get much more full than this in Buffalo for under $10. The Ox-Tail is the equivalent of the Jerk Chicken, only with Ox-Tail. It's an acquired taste, or a matter of opinion, so if you're not into Ox-Tail then you might not like it. It's a couple of dollars more than the Jerk, and has a few different flavours and much tougher, on-the-bone meat. You have to try it yourself to figure out whether you like it or not - personally I don't mean to be a jerk but I prefer the jerk. But yeah this place is more Bob Marley man than Jimi Hendrix dude. I adore this place! It's definitely the best Jamaican Experience in town, no pun intended, Kalypso and Doctor Bird's notwithstanding. They have excellent Curry Chicken too, very wet and hot and delicious... Watch out because like all true Jamaican food, it has da bones in it mon! Oh, and their sodas (imported from Da Islands, Mon), are awesome too. Pineapple... check. Spicy Ginger Beer... check. It's in a low income part of town, up on Bailey on the East Side a little ways south of UB South Campus. It's less than a mile down Bailey from Bailey Seafood, so if you want to get a luscious wet chicken dish and the best fish sandwich you'll ever have (the Haddock Super Sandwich from Bailey Seafood), in one fell swoop, for under $15 total, hit up both places at the same time. BS closes at 8.30, whereas CE closes at 9 or 10 depending on the night. If it's already closed, then Louie's is just south of here along Bailey, has good dogs, burgers and shakes, and is open til 12 or 1am every night. You may already be an East Side regular, or you may not venture out that way usually... but the food is so good it's worth the trip into the hood, even if you're one of those nervous suburban types that believes the hype. The hood won't bite! But you will! Nom nom nom! Enjoy! And by the way, I have a bag of beans, I figured you could carry them for me? Not enough flavor on any level. I was super disappointed with my order. The curry chicken was not curried enough. The "Beef Patty" is a pastelillo. I would not have ordered that, had I known, as I can't have deep fried flour-covered food. I ordered online so I couldn't ask. $3 is WAYYYY too much for that Pastelillo, too. It had very little meat. Go to Monte's on Swan St instead. Or anywhere else really. The "Mixed Vegetables" were bland cabbage. BLAND. Wow, I give the cabbage zero stars. What a waste of $3.50. What a waste of $24.00. Door Dash gave me a credit of $0.37 for the mislabeling (false advertising) of their menu, so I've got that going for me. read more

I love this place. Not only a restaurant but a lounge with live dj on Friday and Saturday nights. You can party until 4am and pick up a great meal on your way home instead of a greasy mess from Jims Steak out. Portions are very good and flavors even better. Mr. Walker and his wife are always kind and greet you with a smile. Only complaint is the hours of operation posted on the door are not accurate. PARKING: There is a private parking lot attached to the side which is nice but be mindful of the potholes if you're driving a small car. There may be street parking. It wasn't a busy area. VENUE: There is seating available but you have to order inside at the window. FOOD: -I ordered the curry chicken which was tasty but BE CAUTIOUS When you order the chicken curry because they cut even through the bone so there will be an occasional bone chop in your bite. I was really excited to try the jerk chicken from this restaurant. I would have gone to the actual restaurant if there wasn't a stand at Taste of Buffalo. I am so glad they were at Taste of Buffalo because it would be a complete waste of time and gas to drive to the actual restaurant. The service SUCKED, the only jerk thing about this place are the workers. They were so rude and not helpful at all. No one deserves to be treated that way. I would've gave this place a 5+ any other time. But after experiencing food poisoning 2 twice from here I can not hold this place up to the 5 star standard. As many know the food here is very good and the establishment is a true hole in the wall. Many times when I come it's not really busy. I always wondered with the huge pots they cook the food in, do they reheat the previous days food and just add to it. Now I don't have proof that they do reheat the previous days food, but after experiencing food poisoning twice in the same week after having there curry chicken. I tend to believe my hunch maybe true, or they got a bad batch of chicken both days I have came here. Would I go back, maybe but not any time soon. I've been wanting to try this place out for a while now and I finally did it. I ordered my food over the phone and while I was talking to the woman she just randomly hung up. I said I wanted curry chicken, she asked what size and I told her medium and she said 20min and hung up. I wasn't even done talking but I didn't call back because it was a huge deal but it still was wrong. I picked my food up and I head STRAIGHT TO THE BACK. I waited for about 7min and she gave my food. My medium curry chicken with rice and cabbage came up to $7.56 including tax. The food was pretty good but I didn't really taste any spices and there are a TON of bones in your food so be very careful. The medium looks kind of like a small but it filled me up which was great. I wouldn't really recommend anyone here since it's not that special but if someone asks I'll tell them about it. The food isn't disgusting but i didn't really taste anything when I was eating. Everyone's tastebuds are different so you might think it's too spicy or something different. Also the people at the bar talk about you so be aware of that if you come inside. That didn't hurt me but it's like wow mind your business I just came to pick up my food. lol read more

This restaurant is in my Lovely hometown of Buffalo, NY :) Every time I visit home I make a point to stop in here and grab a veggie patty (because of my pescatarian diet i dont eat the jerk chicken anymore). This place has some of the best Jerk chicken ever! its so great with the red beans & rice, plantain, & cabbage a small dinner is around $6 and it fills me up with a little left over for an evening snack :) The restaurant has a bar, but I'm not sure if its always open. The food is amazing here! I love the authenticity of the entire restaurant, that masquerades as a club on the weekends. I always get the vegetarian dinner with the curry gravy... when I tell you their curry will change your LIFE?! (Insert the hands up emoji). The only thing about this spot is the service can be a bit slow and inconsistent. When you walk into the back part of the venue, the restaurant part is a literal hole in the wall and the space is sooo tight. Expect to break a sweat while waiting on your food, but all while taking in the delicious aromas. Their portions are usually fair, depending on who serves you...same goes for the cost of the food. One day it's $6.95 and another it may very well be $8.95. Overall I'm usually satisfied when I come here, a few times out the month. The curry chicken, ox tails, and red snapper are A1. The kitchen where you order is in the back corner to your right. Open late Friday Saturday, until 4 a.m. Closed on Monday. Tuesday Wednesday Thursday open till 10 p.m. Husband bought the jerk chicken, I got the curry chicken. Looking forward to trying some of their fish dishes, especially the red snapper. It truly was an experience. My friend and I went to this place for lunch. She was craving something Caribbean and I just wanted anything with rice. Considering the area we were a bit skeptical, but it was the middle of the day and felt a little safer. We then found the restaurant, which is on the corner of Roosevelt and Bailey. Upon walking in, it looked like a dark deserted bar. Very silent, quiet and dead. Upon the little beams of sunlight I could see a place for a live show and then walking even further in I finally saw the guy who ran the place and we placed our order and went back to the dining area and had a seat. The server/cook/guy who runs the place didn't say much. I thought at first that he couldn't speak English or something, but then I toned down my prejudiced thoughts and opened my ears and did hear the English engulf in a thick Caribbean accent. Now on to the food. The food was delicious. I did have lower expectations but it was way better that it turned out. I only pay about $6 for my dish and it filled me up quiet well. My only complaint about the food is that there was a bit much turmeric mixed in. I took a star off for the restaurant seeming like a ghost town in the middle of the day. The experience was bizarre with a surprise of a satisfactory ending. This is one Caribbean experience that Jack Sparrow needs to go through. read more
