Loved every bite and can't wait to come back! Sweet plantains were amazing as they're one of my favorite bites. The chicken thighs are beautifully cooked... juicy and flavorful. The popcorn chicken bites were great and I enjoyed them dipping them in the ketchup/mayo dip they make The gentleman at the counter was cool. He was multitasking with my order and an order on the phone. Place was spacious with some booths. Seemed like there was only street parking available. Excited to return and become a regular here! No pics because I was too hungry and the food smelled soooo good! read more

I stopped by here right before heading to the airport and it was the best part of my trip to the area. The food was amazing I had not had real authentic Dominican food in a while so the taste brought me back home. The young guys in the front were very friendly and also very good at recommending the best dishes in their own personal opinion. I highly recommend to stop by and for a great meal at a great price. read more

My husband was super excited to go here since he is Dominican and has been looking for a Dominican restaurant to go too. Unfortunately we will not be back. We order one medium plate of chicharron with tostones, one large juice and a bottle of coke. The chicharrones were so dry and overcooked and they still served it like that. No amount of lime juice was helping that. When he went up to pay they charged him $36 . We got one medium size plate of food and two drinks so I was super confused how that was $36. They literally have the plate sizes and prices at the front and it says $14 for a medium size plate and a large juice is $6 so those numbers just didn't add up. I felt like that was extremely expensive and we were ripped off for the amount food we got as you can see in the picture attached. Such a disappointment. read more

I remember coming to this place when I was in college a few years ago (since it was walking distance from campus). I can't believe I forgot about it. Looooveeee. You can't get more authentic than this. You get so much food for a great price. Lots of great options to try. Everything tastes like it was made with love. If you're love carribean (dominican) food or are looking to try something new, definitely stop by! I don't know how this place isn't more popular. Super quick, flavorful and memorable dishes. A little place at the end of the street you'd never know is there. Stunningly good food at very real prices. Beautiful balance of spice and sweet. We got some takeout and tried the roasted pork, the pepper steak, the Saturday only soup (wow), and the beans. It netted out to like $10 a person. In this economy? Awesome! And the people are happy you came by. It's that little neighborhood place you'll be thrilled you found. Service is cafeteria style. read more

So, I'm from NYC and I'm Dominican. I was very excited to see this place in Buffalo, but we got really disappointed. If you want real Dominican food that you can at least stomach without being disgusted, try Latino Cuisine at the Galleria Mall. We came here and got the mac and cheese, ribs with yellow rice, and the fried pork bites with yellow rice. First, we ordered the mac and cheese. It came once we were done with our two first meals, which we couldn't even finish. It was basically a soup with a cup of actual macaroni; the rest was just cheese liquid, very disgusting, and it doesn't look at all like what they advertise on DoorDash/Uber Eats. The rice wasn't actual Dominican rice; it had corn in it. They had no moro, and when I asked for it, he put huge brown beans with the sauce that ruined the rice. Also, they only had rice with corn or white rice. The fried pork bites were really dry; they needed a sauce. The only thing we liked were the ribs slathered in BBQ sauce, which was still mediocre. The service was awful, trying to rush you into making a decision just for the food to take ages. He got annoyed by other customers asking questions and modifications. They only had one person in the back cooking, and if they don't "feel like it," it doesn't get done even if it's on the menu. At one point, it felt like we were getting punked because everyone else was getting four plates worth, and they had amazing reviews online. Huge money waste! Almost 50 dollars--back home, I'll tell you, this would have been 35 max. Everything was off from the service to the food in other places where Dominican food is common like nyc or Pennsylvania allentown people who work are respectful and make good food. They bring that Dominican experience over to the U.S, this really sucked. Sadly no pictures taken as we threw the food out and this was a couple days ago. It honestly felt like the big guy at the front was antagonizing us after the mac and cheese, every second coming over and asking if we like the food. Overall, horrible food, flies and mosquitoes everywhere at the restaurant, weird seating, and a huge waste of money if you like actual, real, authentic Dominican food. read more

Absolutely LOVE La Casa De Sabores. It's a small place, over near Buffalo State University... but they food is on point. Platanos, pernil, rice... and even if you ask them, despite being a Dominican place, they'll hook you up with a fresh made Cubano from the ladies in the back. Had the chicken bites, yellow rice & beans, & beef pastellilo. Big plate of food, rice had just come out, chicken bites were perfect, not over cooked. White boy mistake, I should've got the beans on the side, but I'd drink that stuff for christs sake. Young lady's working there are very nice & patient. I discovered this gem at the Taste of Buffalo 2023. The mangu was so delicious, I went back for seconds! It is outstanding Dominican cuisine, and the value for your money cannot be beaten. Best food of its kind around! Great prices too! I usually get the pernil with rice and beans.

Came in and I instantly remember this used to be a college bar that I would dabble at occasionally so very happy to see that La Casa De Sobres is currently occupying the space. As an avid hip-hop consumer, I loved the fact that they were playing the late Pop Smoke (RIP) while I waited for my breakfast sandwich. The music may not seem like a big deal, but they're located close to Buffalo State where a lot of people attend college from New York City - Brooklyn in this instance so the details matter. The staff is extremely helpful and generous and my breakfast sandwich was made with love. And check this - it's the only place in Buffalo where you can get it on the popular hero roll - similar to bodegas in New York City where a bacon, egg, and cheese are popular. Again, the details. They get it. read more

Food was delicious. I was looking for food close to home and found this. I have tried the other well known Puerto Rican restaurants in Buffalo but, this place was spot on. I got a large Pernil & BBQ ribs with yellow rice and beans. The portions were huge. I have been eating on them for three days with the amount of rice they give you. The prices are reasonable and they have 3 for $5 Pastelitos they were deep-fried perfectly. The Pernil was moist with the good fat pieces throughout. (if you know, you know) This was my first time going but I will be back. read more

I take pictures of my food and text them to friends to make them jealous every time I eat here. That's how good it is: brag to your friends and pick on them for missing out, good. Pre-Covid-19 I used to stop in for lunch with colleagues. For $10 I can get a plate of rice and pernil (or bbq chicken or ribs) and beans, and the serving is more than I can finish. Now that I'm getting takeout, I order a large and one or two sides of something we eat it family style. It's plenty of food for two people and absolutely delicious. If you're used to Puerto Rican food, the flavors are slightly different because this is Domenican but I'm telling you, it's so good. Don't miss out. read more

I have gotten takeout from here a few times. The first time, I got the Fried Pork Mofongo and actually didn't enjoy my meal that much. While the plantains were delicious, I thought the pork was dry, but it could have been that I just didn't like fried pork. I ate it all anyway. The next time, I ordered a grilled salmon dish and that was delicious and soooo much food and so worth the $$$. The salmon with the plantains and rice meshed very well and it was a very comforting, yet still somewhat healthy meal. I'd highly recommend the fish! read more

Just off the Buff State campus, nestled in the back corner of where a neighborhood turns industrial, is this hidden gem. Atmosphere is casual, an old corner bar turned into a comfortable neighborhood dining place. A friend and I were just talking about our experience here and I realized that I never wrote a review. He and I went a month or two ago. This was his first visit and my second. Specifically we were talking about the guy working there that day who was just so excited to tell us about everything on the buffet and menu. He was really like an enthusiastic tour guide to Dominican cuisine. The first time I came I experienced similar hospitality as well. This conversation branched off an earlier discussion on places that make you really feel welcome versus those where you almost feel unwelcome. La Casa De Sabores was obviously the welcoming example. So then we started reminiscing about the food. This time around I had the Mofongo with pernil. Each order of Mofongo is made fresh and they do let you know that the wait for this dish will be a little longer than others. For appetizers, we started with some pastelitos and sorullos from the buffet. Everything was tasty and satisfying. I needed to take half of the Mofongo home because it was more than I could eat for one meal. One note: heavy garlic in the mofongo. I love garlic but if you don't, the Mofongo might not be fore you. The first time I came with an ex. He wasn't an ex at the time of course but I have no idea what title to even use. That's not the point. The point is, we were each going to get a container of food from the buffet, but when the guy showed us the size of the container, we decided to just share one. Prices are very low for the amount of food that you get. I hope these folks are making enough of a profit because this place is really unique and I wish them continued success. read more

¡Muy rico! Authentic Dominican home cooking...second only to the meals prepared by my husband! We tried everything. Rice and beans, pernil, mofongo, chicharrón de pollo, plátanos maduros, and empanadas. All were delicious, full of flavor, and well prepared. Prices extremely reasonable. Food - 3 Price - 5 Service - 4 Atmosphere - 2 I have learned this lesson so many times but I keep doing it anyway. Do not get a steak from Dominican joints. I want to be wrong but it just hasn't happened yet. The steak had some sort of sauce on it. It's just not for me. It leaned more towards pot roast shredded meat than steak. Always get the chicken or pork. Get the Pernil. The pork is delicious, I love the crunchy pieces of pork skin. They have extremely large portions, and they certainly don't skimp on size. A large can feed you a few times or a family. Another thing to note is that the food here has more or a tomato base for the rice. Some people like that and some don't. At the end of the day, we may return if we are in the area. I did enjoy the Pernil and I think you can't go wrong getting that meal. read more

I'm going, to be honest here my boyfriend and I have been getting food from here every other day for the past week...maybe two weeks? Seriously... I have the receipts. Needless to say, I may have a new restaurant obsession. Here is what I have tried so far : Bistec Encebollado with white rice and maduros (extra $2.00) - (medium $11.00) - Steak with onions. Includes beans and choice of rice. Patacones Pisao ($9.00) - This. Sandwich. IS. DAMN. GOOD. ORDER IT. - You have a choice of chicken, beef or pork in a sandwich. Includes lettuce, tomato, chimichurri sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Served with beans and choice of rice. Yaroa Dominicana ($10.00) - I didn't know what to expect, this dish is one of my favorites, thick layers just abundant in flavor. - Choice of roasted pork or chicken. Made with french fries or mashed sweet plantains. (*TIP: I order mines with plantains) Pollo Al Horno with yellow rice, beans, and maduros (extra $2.00) - (small $8.00) - Great portion for a quick lunch bite! But I would recommend getting a medium or large if you're grabbing dinner, you'll get more chicken. Pernil with rice beans and maduros (extra $2.00) - Medium ($10.00) -Roasted pork with choice of rice and sweet plantains. Cooked to perfection, the meat was juicy! Great portions and affordable pricing definitely a gem tucked neatly away in the upper west-side. There are quite a few restaurants that offer an array of Caribbean cuisine but honestly, none compare to this one. I have no doubt this place will be really successful in Buffalo. *There is a 3-Grant bus stop right at the corner of Grant & Letchworth St about a minute away from the restaurant. This spot is within walking distance from Buffalo State College (15 minutes), but don't worry if you're not in the area delivery is available via SkipTheDishes. read more
