My husband was super excited to go here since he is Dominican and has been looking for a Dominican restaurant to go too. Unfortunately we will not be back. We order one medium plate of chicharron with tostones, one large juice and a bottle of coke. The chicharrones were so dry and overcooked and they still served it like that. No amount of lime juice was helping that. When he went up to pay they charged him $36 . We got one medium size plate of food and two drinks so I was super confused how that was $36. They literally have the plate sizes and prices at the front and it says $14 for a medium size plate and a large juice is $6 so those numbers just didn't add up. I felt like that was extremely expensive and we were ripped off for the amount food we got as you can see in the picture attached. Such a disappointment.

I came here on a Saturday because I have been craving sancocho. This location has it available on Saturdays only. It was so good and flavorful. I ate my food at home but could have certainly ate at the restaurant as there was clean tables to enjoy your meal inside. Definitely would come again for authentic sancocho!

I remember coming to this place when I was in college a few years ago (since it was walking distance from campus). I can't believe I forgot about it. Looooveeee. You can't get more authentic than this. You get so much food for a great price. Lots of great options to try. Everything tastes like it was made with love. If you're love carribean (dominican) food or are looking to try something new, definitely stop by! I don't know how this place isn't more popular. Super quick, flavorful and memorable dishes. Makes you remember that buffalo has some good local food. :)

If you're looking for authentic Dominican cuisine--La Casa de Sabores is your spot! The food is like a warm hug and is always delicious. Today I ordered the Pollo Guisado with rice and beans and Tostones with mayo ketchup...soooo good. The menu is posted on the glass and you're able to see what dishes are available, some are made to order like the side order of Tostones which are perfectly crispy.

At La Casa de Sabores, the Dominican restaurant, I found a delightful combination of good flavors, particularly showcased in their delicious mofongo. The portions were generous, offering a satisfying dining experience that truly captures the essence of Dominican cuisine.

Chicken bites, yellow rice & beans underneath. (Large plate).

Had the chicken bites, yellow rice & beans, & beef pastellilo. Big plate of food, rice had just come out, chicken bites were perfect, not over cooked. White boy mistake, I should've got the beans on the side, but I'd drink that stuff for christs sake. Young lady's working there are very nice & patient. It's definitely better than the PR place on Hertel. I'd def go back!

My Dominican friend who is from the Bronx told me about this joint and he didn't do me wrong. I come here at least once a week. I always get the Medium size plate, Yellow Rice, Beans, Pernil ( ask for couple crispy skin) / fried Chicken bites half and half. This place slaps 100%. The hospitality is amazing too. Always friendly and always no problem when you ask for something or request something. Price is awesome too and service is quick even when there is a line, online orders coming in, gig drivers coming in they handle it all very well. Now that I'm writing this review, I'm craving for some La Casa De Sabores right now.

Absolutely LOVE La Casa De Sabores. It's a small place, over near Buffalo State University... but they food is on point. Platanos, pernil, rice... and even if you ask them, despite being a Dominican place, they'll hook you up with a fresh made Cubano from the ladies in the back. I've been here maybe 4 times now, and loved it every time. Staff is friendly... they always treat me well and even remember your face and say what's up anytime you come In. They are reppin' the DR well out here in Buffalo.

Really good food, and cheap! We order pollo guisdao (chicken stew), plantains and empanadas to go.The guy at the counter was also super helpful on answering questions!

Aquarela Restaurant was absolutely not on my radar at all, but when the suggestion was made to…read morecheck out a joint specializing in authentic Caribbean food, I had absolutely no choice but to say yes. We arrived in the small, unassuming plaza in which Aquarela is located at around noon on a recent Saturday, and after attempting to find the entrance and walking up the very sketchy stairs, we made our way into the restaurant. Even though we were welcomed in, it didn't seem like they were expecting any customers that early, as many of the chairs were still up on tables and there were people making deliveries and setting things up for the duration of our meal. The fairly unpleasant ambiance proved to be completely irrelevant once we received our food, however. We had decided to share a couple of items, the Mofongo ("Deep fried plantains mashed with a house garlic sauce & chicharron de puerca. Served with your choice of meat.") and the Pollo Al Cibao ("Stewed chicken, reduced to a fine sauce, served with rice and your choice of tostones or beans."), although we certainly weren't expecting such huge portions. (Honestly, one of these dishes probably would've been enough.) I absolutely have to single out the Mofongo. I've never eaten anything quite like it before, and it's absolutely incredible. It's got this really deep, pronounced garlic flavor that's nothing short of irresistible, while the various delicious accompanying components only enhance the experience. The Pollo Al Cibao is perhaps not quite as memorable, but it's nevertheless a top-tier stew that I could've eaten all day. I can't really see myself eating inside Aquarela again, but I'd be more than happy (and excited) to grab takeout someday.

Having a drink here with the loud Latin beat music from a Live DJ does make me feel I am back on an Caribbean Island somewhere.. Unfortunately the beers here are limited to "Canadian Domestic" and Corona or Heineken. And I could not find my Caribe for 99 cents each! Aquarela aside from being a neighbourhood watering hole, it also serves authentic Dominican & Latin American Cuisine. We shared: Tostones ($3.50) - soft and moist and addictive Chivo a la Monte Cristi ($11.50) - Stewed Goat in an Oregano Sauce made to a taste of Monte Cristi Served with Rice - Goat is soft and tender and the seasoning is really subtle without being overpowering - A popular dish in Northern part of Dominican Mofongo ($11.50) - Deep Fried Plantains Mashed with a House Garlic Sauce and Chicharron de Puerco Served with A Choice of Meat - Served in a pilon (wooden Mortar) is really nicely presented - The shrimp is on the smallish side but I do love the mushiness of the plantains and the sausage gives it an extra bite and the smokey taste Watching reruns of the Blue Jays 1993 final games when they won the World Series while dining was just a really strange experience for me... But it can be worse, watching reruns of the Leafs 1967 when they won their last Stanley Cup! Here at Aquarela, one can find a taste of the Caribbean. Warm hospitality, loud music, good food. If you prefer a more family environment, they do opens during lunch..

This is the second location for 809- I understand that they have a long time place on Lyell Ave. The service was great- our waiter Gabriel was very attentive. Another waitress and the hostess also stopped by to check in on us. The wife had the signature Mojito (which I tried and it was excellent) and I had a Mojito Especial with lime. They bring out their "house appetizer" which was a warm load I homemade bread and a balsamic dip. Very good! Both our dinners were excellent- mine was a Chicken Fried rice with steak and shrimp - it is a massive mound and I ate about half of it (that's lunch for tomorrow). Lots of shrimp and steak in there. And very flavorful. This is the first review and I am giving it 5 stars - I recommend checking out this different style restaurant - we will be back!
