    $$$$. Whole lechon chicken $15 & 3 bbq sticks $9.
    Mina L.

You know that awful feeling when you've overpaid or felt like you wasted your money? That's how I felt when I got home and looked at what I bought. - $15 whole lechon chicken. It was small and dry. - $9 for 3 small bbq sticks. I really do try to patronize Filipino restaurants, but I can't believe how expensive the two items I bought were.

I have heard thru the grapevine that this place serve good Filipino food. Since I live near the area, I went in to check it out. I tried their Lechon Kawali. I find it pricey and portion isn't adequate. What enticed me to come back is the variety flavors of Hopia. They are addictive. I joined the Five star app too, so I get a free Halo - halo on my birthday.

    Chicken Arroz Caldo

Didn't know this spot even existed till my bf got sick and wanted some Chicken Arroz Caldo so we decided to drive out. Parking isn't too bad but boy is this place tiny! Literally walked in and the bar is just a few inches away from you. Super cramped but they have everything pretty organized. I noticed one guy at the register taking orders, ringing people out, and also packing orders! Seemed like a 1 man restaurant till you notice other workers walking in and out of the back/kitchen to place pick up orders up front. I got in line, only maybe 2-3 in front of me and it went by fast. An older lady came from the back and took my order. I finally got to the cashier, ordered some other items and told him that I told the other lady about my Arroz Caldo order. He went to the back to talk to her and see if it was ready and he told her that I had called in for the order which I did not. The lady behind me chuckled, as did I. No big deal! He was very nice and handled it fine. Didn't mess it up or anything, just a bit of miscommunication. Waited a few min and got my order and drove home. The Arroz Caldo was great! Super delicious. The crispy sisig however was just okay in my opinion. I wish there was some kind of sauce that came with it other than plain rice and not much to the sisig. Overall it's not a bad spot but I think I'd only come here for the Arroz Caldo. IG: @ammysalamii

They've downsized the restaurant but it's still Hopia like jt and Kalesa in the same space but only the Hopia is already pre-made. The entrees are made to order and hasn't been turo turo for sometime. We went there around 11:30am and wanted to order the whole chicken they said they only had a half left. They just opened and already ran out of chicken. The lechon Kawali is tasty and crunchy not too oily and the garlic rice always hits the spot. The cebuchon was rather dry though. I love their palabok too. Since everything is made to order food does take awhile but it's good and hits the spot when craving Filipino food and I'm too lazy to cook.

I was craving some authentic Filipino food that reminded me of home. This place definitely did not disappoint! The portions are great and everything was delicious. I ordered thru Doordash and the food came warm and looked amazing! The cebuchon was crispy and juicy, the garlic rice hits the spot and my bf got the spam silog. The fresh coconut juice is very tasty and fresh! I definitely recommend and will surely comeback here again :)

"Sweet and sour sauce" that was just banana ketchup ‍
    Hanna A.

This place is a joke lol. We ordered sweet and sour fish in which the sauce was in a separate container so we didn't bother checking it before we left. I even asked for extra sauce because it didn't look enough. So when we got home and opened the sauce, it was all banana ketchup haha. The breaded fish were so salty too. We also ordered menudo and it was bad. The potatoes were raw and it was just not good. Giving this place 1 star for their cebuchon because it was good and that was all we ate for Christmas eve. Such a let down.

You can never go wrong with Kalesa's food variety. They cook it fresh for you and it really good. Their Ube Hopia, Baboy, Guava with Cream cheese is so good. And for for since today is Ash Wednesday we ordered sweet and sour fish and bangus sisig for lunch, both for $14.99 each. It was really DELISH !!! Customer Service is great too!

This isn't your typical Filipino restaurant with the street-style set-up, or "turo turo" where you point at the ready-made food and they pack it up for you. All food is prepped in the back, so in that light I wouldn't actually consider this a fast-service/ fast-casual Filipino restaurant. The prices for most entrees fall under $10, but I've gotten combination plates with two items for cheaper, most definitely. I did like their "All Day Breakfast" option because who doesn't crave -silog dishes during other parts of the day? We did go in during an appropriate time around 10am though and I ordered the *Tapsilog* for $8.99. Their breakfast items include two scoops of rice, 2 eggs, tomato, and atchara (a pickled papaya). I honestly didn't see any tomato with my beef, but I didn't know at the time that my dish should have included it. The beef was plentiful and not too chewy, but it wasn't marinated at all. The atchara on the side helped to give it a little vinegary kick though. Garlic rice was offered in this dish versus regular and the egg was oozy and hearty. I'm sure most people would argue that they could finish this easily in one sitting; the portions are smaller than a typical "turo turo" style of restaurant's offerings. However, if you're having a normal meal and not engorging yourself, then one can easily save half of this meal for later (as I did). If you're looking for a proper sit down meal, this restaurant isn't a bad choice for that, but do not expect the extremely large portions here.

Food is great, paid over $60 for 6 items . Not a fan with the portion size, too small for high price items. Hopia ube and cheese pandesal was the best! My halo halo contained an ant inside my cup ‍. Cover your sweet condiments so ants don't get to it. Matter of fact call a pest control and have that place evaluated.

I was craving a sisig plate and bibingka...so where did I go? Kalesa Grill of course! Just thinking of the crisp sisig and onions makes your mouth water. Customer service always on point. Thank you Kalesa Grill. Also a tip: if anyone wants Hopia you should pre order ahead of time because they run out fast. I've noticed a few times customers try to do a "quick pick up" towards the end of the day but are very limited since hopia goes fast. You can also try their other store in Granada Hills - Hopia Like It.

My proof, that I was in, and spent over $90
    Patrick G.

I went in today with my wife and two children to buy some lechon and other items. I could not believe how rudely we were treated. Especially by the older woman that was behind the counter. I've included a pic of my receipt. I spent over $90 and expected to be treated with curtesy. Instead the old woman acted as if she did not like us because we are not from the Philippines.

fresh cantaloupe juice brings back the best kind of nostalgia

Was out in the SFV for work and needed a quick bite before commuting back home. This store is quite small, but their food makes a large statement. I'm used to homecooked filipino meals and filipino restaurants don't usually do it for me; however, this was the first time I feel like coming back. It's unfortunate that they don't have a location in my area. I got the pork belly plate, some hopia for the family, and fresh melon juice--all of which I can highly recommend. this is a filipino restaurant i will be coming back to whenever im in the area.

This is more upscale, almost fine dining Filipino food. Something I have never experienced before. We were very intrigued and were excited to try the food. If you're looking for a carinderia or turo-turo taste, this ain't it so don't come expecting that. Menu is not extensive, which is what we like. I have a hard time at Cheesecake Factory and that just stresses me out. I feel like their food menu is compact, thoughtfully created, and appealing. We had a very difficult time not ordering the entire menu. So we ended up eating almost half of it. Drinks menu was also very innovative and the drinks were STRONG. I also appreciate that they have non-alcoholic versions of some of their drinks. I wasn't indulging that day so Hubby and I were able to sample one of each type. Calamansi Mojito ($20) for him and Ube Horchata ($14) for me. As for what we ate: Manila Mais ($18) - 2.5/5 stars - It was, okay. Filipino-ized version of Mexican elote, corn-ribs style. Though it had Filipino elements like the bagoong butter, it didn't really taste like anything different. And to be honest, the bagoong butter didn't bring anything to the table the way it was presented to the side of the corn. It was too hard and just sat on the elote as you ate it. Kare Kare Tamales ($26) - 5/5 stars - UH-AMAZING!!! I could have eaten two, regular-sized tamales versions of this as an entree instead of two smaller appetizer size. The braised oxtail inside the tamales was soft and tender but the peanut butter veloute was *chef's kiss*. You definitely tasted kare kare but in an innovative way. I just wish they had some steamed rice or bread so I could soak up the sauce. I almost cried when they took the plate away because I didn't want to waste the sauce! Bicol Express Mezzelune ($38) - 4/5 stars - I was eyeing this originally but opted not to until the chef came out and talked us into it. And I'm so glad he did! This was delicious! Ironically enough, I just cooked traditional Bicol Express the week before and this definitely hit those notes without being a carbon copy of it. Again, where was the rice?! Only thing I can dock is that I felt like the pasta was a tad too thick and was chewy to my taste. Otherwise, I would definitely order this again. Was the sleeper hit of the dinner. Crab Fat Fried Rice ($38) - 5/5 stars - Crab? Crab fat? In rice?? Of course, sign me up! So delicious and a very generous portion. I wanted to hoard it to myself but I guess I had to share with Hubby. Would order this again. Ribeye Salpicao ($96) - 3/5 stars - Not my favorite of the bunch and this surprised me because I love rib eye. It came out medium instead of the medium rare we ordered and the taste was just not to my preference. It's possible that it was just overshadowed by the other excellent dishes we had. Likely will not order again though the portion was generous. Two minor things I wish they had but not enough to dock stars: Rice and spoons. Come on, now! This is a Filipino place! These two are musts? How else could I mop up all the delicious sauces they put on the food?! Service was impeccable! From front of the house host, bartender, and the chefs, the experience was very welcoming and polished. We sat at the bar and was able to chat with the chefs when they came to introduce themselves to us and they were the nicest people. You felt like you came to a friend's house and not an impersonal stranger's. Will definitely be back to try the other half of the menu we missed and we'll be bringing friends!

The food was amazing, but the atmosphere was what really made the night special. And Chris, who took care of us, exceeded our expectations with his wonderful service. 4.5 stars. Sorry,…read moreguys - I'm still catching up on my reviews and am kicking myself for failing to write this before Spoon & Pork permanently shut its doors. This was an unforgettable eatery. During our trip to Los Angeles in May, 2023, Wendell invited Jay, Z and me to meet up with Veda and him for a late lunch at 2 PM at one of their favourite Filipino restaurants, Spoon & Pork, on Sunday, the 7th. Spoon & Pork, which originated as a food truck, was a restaurant that specialized in Filipino comfort food with a contemporary twist. They offered a fresh, inventive fusion of the flavours of the Philippines with modern sophistication. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Los Angeles' Silver Lake neighbourhood, Spoon & Pork was a cozy boutique eatery on bustling Sunset Boulevard that greeted guests with a neon pig sign at their front entrance. No private lot on this busy street, so finding nearby parking was a bit challenging and although the charming spot offered both indoor and al fresco dining, seating was also limited. The tropical-inspired dining room with warm wood accents created an effortlessly cool and relaxed atmosphere that felt both modern and rooted in tradition. Upon entry, guests were welcomed by the aroma of sizzling meats and fragrant spices which alluded to the culinary journeys to come. The food at Spoon & Pork wasn't exactly what one's nanay (mom) or lola (grandma) would cook. Celebrating fresh takes on the richness of Filipino cuisine, the menu was an invitation to indulge in unexpected, compelling twists on a thoughtfully curated selection of traditional dishes, infusing familiar flavours into new forms. Below are what we ordered: beef tapa ($25) - MASARAP (DELICIOUS)! Of all the dishes that we ordered, this was the winner of them all as the succulent meat packed a punch of flavour. adobo tofu ($14) - One of Wendell's regular orders, this notable plant-based option, was a tasty, innovative take on the Philippine classic that balanced tradition with modern creativity. laing ($9) - From their platito, small plates section, this bowl of coconut braised taro leaves was rich and creamy deliciousness, but, yes, mini in portion size. garlic rice ($4/$7) - Ordering the garlic rice over plain jasmine rice was a no brainer. Thoroughly infused with the savouriness of the many bits of garlic, this rice perfectly paired with all of the other dishes. bistek ($28) - The skirt steak was very tender and the sauce perfectly balanced the tanginess from the calamansi juice with the savoury soy sauce. lechon kawali ($23) - Another reimagined classic dish featuring crispy, golden pork belly with crunchy skin and tender, flavourful meat inside. The dish was complemented by a tangy, pickled red cabbage that enhanced the crispy texture and added a refreshing contrast. This mastery of flavour and texture tickled Z's tastebuds and won him over. Before this day, Z was never a fan of Filipino food. Everything tasted boldly rich and every bit intensely intoxicated our taste buds. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. What a remarkably epicurean feast and delightful experience we enjoyed! We're super bummed that Spoon & Pork permanently closed shoppe. Z and I were hoping to return for another tasty meal. Truly, a worthy spot this place was to hit up for an impressively creative taste of the Philippines in Los Angeles.

As a second-generation Filipino-American, I would be lying if I didn't say that I had rather high expectations for Spoon & Pork, but as always, I try my best to keep any biases aside & curb any + all expectations. That said, Spoon & Pork is quite the anomaly. What I mean by that is that you have the hallmarks of any typical Filipino restaurant: simple interiors with modest decor, & beyond hospitable wait staff - especially our host, but the techniques & presentations of their dishes are something that you'd find at the highest of fine dining establishments. The irony is kind of nice because I don't feel so guilty about rocking a simple t-shirt + jeans, while enjoying what I'd expect to served at an establishment along Rodeo Dr. FOOD: Appetizer Lumpia Shanghai - 8.0 / 10 Perhaps the most famous of Filipino appetizers / street foods. I pride myself of bringing trays of these myself to any gathering because who doesn't love crispy, crunchy, meat-stuffed egg rolls that you can pop into your mouth? Here, the only real difference is that the individual pieces are longer that what you'd typically find. The pork + veggie dumpling is the same as elsewhere as well as your sweet + sour sauce. Nothing exactly to write home about, but delicious nonetheless Side Adobo Rice - 7.7 / 10 I feel like I've had this before & even made it myself. Simply put, imagine mixing plain, white rice into a cauldron of adobo broth. The very small pieces of meat are nice, but again, it's we're not exactly re-inventing the wheel here. It is a very nice upgrade vs. ordering your standard issue steamed (white) rice. Entrées Tapa - 9.0 / 10 A favorite of mine growing up as a kid. But whereas my mother would fry thin strips of beef, almost to a dehydrated crisp (think thicker, moister beef jerky), their rendition is quite different. Heartier chunks of premium quality beef, generously swimming in a broth of soy, vinegar, & garlic. This was personally my favorite dish of the night & a nice interpretation of a Filipino staple. The atchara (papaya, carrots, and red bell peppers, in tangy brine) provided a nice + refreshing counterpoint. Adobo Pork Belly - 8.9 / 10 If you ask anyone who knows anything about Filipino cuisine, the word "adobo" will almost always come to mind. But "Filipino style" adobo is quite different in meaning to its Spanish counterpart. In this case, we're referring to the classic preparation of any dish in a mixture of vinegar, soy sauce peppercorns, garlic, & bay leaves. Your boy definitely love pork belly (fatty unsmoked bacon of steroids), but the delicate pieces of meat smothered in the classic sauce was something of a revelaltion. I honestly didn't know how I haven't stumbled upon Pork Belly in Adobo (sauce) sooner than now. Highly recommended if you want to they the most classical Filipino flavor but with a modern take. As far as parking goes, availability is limited to the rather small number of spaces that they share with the fish taco shack immediately adjacent. But metered parking in aplenty. PRO TIP: Having actually lived about less than 100 yards away from this very restaurant (I moved away 1 year before they opened this location), drive up Westerly Terrace & you'll likely find some non-designated residential parking spots & just walk on over. Spoon & Pork are doing some very innovative things in Filipino cuisine. Combining modern techniques to traditional flavors. This place definitely deserves your business!

Loved the food here! We tried the coconut beef adobo, short rib, esquite, and jasmine rice…read more Definitely enough food for 2 with leftovers. The meats were incredibly tender and flavorful. The short rib ran us about $35. The sauces that accompanied the meal were also very tasty! It looks like they had a few of their bigger tables reserved for bigger parties, so that's nice. Parking on a weekday late afternoon was not bad on the street, but I can see how it may be hard to find parking some times.

Honestlyyyyy I've had this place on my bookmarks for quite some time and it didn't live up to my…read moreexpectations, especially considering all the recent raving reviews. We ordered four of the most ordered and highly revered items: tri tip, coconut beef adobo, smoked gouda mac, and the cornbread bibingka. * Tri tip: Ours was cold and not tender.. wasn't very flavorful either. Kinda tasted like the forgotten order that's been left drying on the counter for some time. The price is decent for an entree of tri tip though. Comes with a horseradish sauce + vinegar and bbq sauce on the side, but I didn't think any of these accompaniments were strong on their own. Made the tri tip better but not by much. * Coconut beef adobo: One of the better items. Beef chunks were melt in your mouth and the sauce was a good middle between savory and vinegary - balanced out by sweetness from the coconut. * Smoked gouda mac: Would not order again. The big shell macaroni noodles were soggy; the cheese sauce was mild in flavor, clumpy and not satisfying melty; lastly, the panko crust was just there and didn't add anything imo. * Cornbread bibingka: The other better dish of the night - very moist, muffin like crumb, and not too sweet or heavy. Portion is on the smaller side though. My bf who normally isn't a fan of cornbread enjoyed this!

A while back, I saw a video of a grip of gen z Fil-Ams talking about how this was their go to spot…read morefor Filipino foods. A lot of them said they fux with the sinigang. Color me confused because I had never heard of her. What rock have I been living under that I'd never heard of this place? So, early one Saturday, I pulled up with my sister from another mister to get our breakfast on. First of all, tell me why they're basically down the street from me. They've been around as long as I've been alive and not once had I been. Truly a shock considering my commitment with never making food at home. I stay eating outside. There was only one other group of diners while we were there. A family of 4 who were seated in the back room. We ended up being seated in the area facing Fountain. My first comment was how I felt like I was at my Lola's house because the decor was giving Lola vibes, in the best way. I felt like I was home. My friend got the laing meal and I got the tocino. We also got a side order of the sweet & spicy longanisa. Broooooooooooooo That food was wow. I'm gonna say it again - it tasted like home. Down to the fixins on the table like vinegar and suchas. I appreciated all the little touches. We ate so much yet still had so much leftovers. Their portion size was crazy. We would've been good with just one meal and another protein a la carte. We also got a small bowl of their arroz caldo. Let me tell you something, a single tear legit went down my left cheek. That tasted like what my mom made for me when she was still with us. The memories that came flooding back took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. We did order their famous empanada that never came. We had to remind our server that he never dropped it off. I'm not sure why he didn't double check if we still wanted them which we did. We would've obviously paid for them. Despite that they're getting all the stars from me because the food was fire and their drinks were 10/10. I got the Maria Clara. They also allow two free refills so that's a double win. I'm about to pull up every weekend. Take all my monies.

I loved the decor of the back of each seat with different kinds of birds! It was my first time trying this restaurant so with a group of 4, we were able to get a good spread of food. Definitely had to get the calamansi drink! It was so refreshing. The fried dishes such as the daing bangus, lumpia and buchon were hot and crispy. I liked the kare kare vegetables, i was never a fan of oxtail but liked the flavor of the stew. It was my first time trying pork sisig and I really liked it when it was hot and fresh. As time passed, I didnt like the texture. I thought the adobo was meh, Overall had a good time with filipino dishes with decently good prices!
