We came here for Thursday night dinner and had a great dinning experience. The vibe is lively with beautiful wall murals of iconic Mexican artists and cultural images. Very cool place with music playing for our enjoyment. We were immediately seated and greeted by our lead waiter, Joseph. He was incredibly attentive, polite, and very friendly. He made great food recommendations and had great knowledge of the menu, which just added another level of enjoyment and to our dinning experience. He took our drink and appetizer order, I had Tama Lindo Margarita and my wife had a Michelada, both drinks were very well crafted and tasty! We ordered the guacamole that came with chicharron but we also asked for chips. The guacamole was very fresh, it came with chunks of queso fresco, diced tomatoes, and pico de gallo. It was an amazing combination and just full of flavors. Now for the main entrees, each dish we ordered was a masterpiece with a perfect blend of amazing flavors and textures! The is a result of management's commitment to quality and authenticity. In conclusion, Kalaveras exceeded our expectations by not only satisfying our palates but created an impressive dining experience. read more

If you're looking for bottomless mimosas, look no further! The lechera French toast was to die for. Omar was very attentive and polite. I absolutely love Kalaveras! Sydney was my server/bartender and she was amazing. She recommended the pomegranate Mezkarita -- it was so flavorful and delicious -- and also helped me choose my dinner, which I loved. Great service, great food, and such a fun experience. I can't wait to come back. Totally worth it! read more

We've always enjoyed our time at Kalaveras, and often do our friend Christmas and/or Thanksgiving at this location. The food is great, the drinks are wonderful, and the service is always great. Louie, our server, was awesome and kept the drinks flowing and the hospitality going during our most recent video. The ambiance and vibes are always great. read more

Such a cool vibe! Loved the decor inside and the food was a great portion and very tasty. Food: Tasty. Pricey, BUT a BIG portion and they don't skimp on the meat and cheese! I ordered the nachos and added carne asada. (about $22) Highly recommend and I will definitely order it again. Service: Our server was attentive and nice. Same for the host. Ambience: Dimly lit. Beautiful colors and decor. They play good music. A smaller location than others. Wish they had space for a small dance floor because the music makes you want to dance! Prices: I went on Cinco de Mayo and was disappointed they didn't have any food specials, but they do have Taco Tuesday specials on tacos. Parking: They have a small lot and there is free parking in the neighborhood. read more

Came here for a reunion and coincidentally it was a day that it rained. Parking was scarce and had to find street parking as close as possible but I knew we will all get drenched. Entrance is really bright with its neon lights and drawings that felt like I am in Dias de la Muertos. But the vibe inside is just as cozy. We choose to sit outside so we have some private chatter. I ordered the barbacoa stew which I found a little on the saltier side and had to down myself with lots of ice water. Also had the la jacks resposado shot to warm up the evening! The light show was really cool. Service was a little lacking with the attentiveness and had to get their attention inside but I realized the staff is limited during the cold night and close to the holiday weekend. But eventually we got our orders and drinks. Would have to check the other franchise but this one is a little bit out of the way. read more

Came to Kalaveras on a Tuesday night. It was pretty busy but we got seated right away. We were given menus and our server said he would come back to take our drink orders. Twenty minutes went by and we saw no sign of our server. Eventually, a woman came to take our orders and she was really nice. She took our drink & food orders. We never got chips and salsa like the rest of the tables which I'm guessing was because our original server never came back. I had the shrimp enchiladas and they were delicious - flavorful and perfectly spicy 10/10. The beans and rice were also perfectly flavored. The drinks were good and so was the presentation of the dragon mezcal cocktail. read more

My prima told me it was a good place and it's just not for me I think. Went by my lonesome (LOL) and sat at the bar for dinner. Too loud and annoying people go here. Whats worse is that the food was not good. Where is the Sazón? I had the quesabirras because the bartender said that was the best. No disrespect- these are Just my 2 cents. The kind of place you go when you don't really like Mexican food. So that's why it's not for me. read more

Vibes here are down to party! Bumpin music, colorful decor, and vibrant drinks. We came here on a Friday afternoon before the evening started, so felt like a calm before the storm. We ordered the queso fundido, Kala bowl and combo plate. Queso was nice to share but flavor a little all one note. Chips were crispy. I liked my Kala bowl the best but was again looking for a little umph to it. Overall the food was solid and the vibes are fun. read more

When in California it is prudent to search for Mexican cuisine. They have some of the finest. I think I found a pretty decent one. Close by the hotel with a very respectable looking menu I wanted something light, but good because it was the final meal of the day. I ordered 3 tacos. Though they weren't very large they were good. Let's start with my favorite of the two tacos, the Asada. The beef was cooked perfectly (though you don't get a lot of it) topped with their homemade guacamole sauce. Outstanding! For some reason, there were two corn taco shells, but that didn't come into play except it made this a little bit fuller. The Barbacoa tacos had beef (nicely cooked) on a corn taco (2 again) with marinated red onion. Not a big fan of onion, but when it's cooked just a little bit or marinated, count me in. They throw in some of their homemade chips and salsa. They give you plenty of chips. They're not very salty. The salsa is very good but you just don't get much of it. read more

I'm back and I'm loving it now. This albondigas soup is so good. Taco Tuesday is .50 more but it is still a steal. The service is touch and go sometimes. But overall it is good. I came here while I was getting my car detailed, and it was right when the restaurant opened. The ambiance and decor are awesome. I dig the lighting, and I think the perimeter has black lights which lend the established to a really cool vibe. There are a couple birthdays being celebrated, and I think this place is known for its drinks since both parties ordered margaritas. 11AM to get things started is a way to do it! I was seated very quickly and had my order taken. The chips and salsa were the standard offering as part of the meal, but the chips were stale. I've had fresh/hot chips, reheated chips, regular crispy chips, and stale chips. These were stale. I wanted to try their chilaquiles since the detailer suggested them. I added a protein and switched things up by trying barbacoa instead of the usual chorizo, and the meat didn't disappoint. The chips looked and tasted different from the chips and salsa before (I surely hope so!). The salsa verde was tasty, and the egg was cooked just right. I'd say this dish was tasty. Customer service was lacking. No refill on water (even though I asked for one), and I just let that go. He did bring the check though when I asked for it, so there's that. No asking how the food was, seeing if I needed anything else (like that refill for water I asked for), or thanking me for coming by. If I'm in the area again, I'll hit up another spot next time. read more

TOTAL turn off when it came to paying for my meal. My total bill was $27 and some change. The waitress took it upon herself to "round up" my total bill to $28. Yes it's only less than a dollar but I don't appreciate not being asked if it's ok to "round up" my bill. It's my money not theirs. For however good the food was. Rounding up my bill left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

First time coming here. If you go on a Wednesday night, there could be a farmers market nearby that could make finding parking a bit difficult. I made reservations, which made checking in easy and effortless. The staff was excellent and helpful. I love how vibrant and colorful the decor in the restaurant is. We started off with an appetizer of guacamole that was delicious and addicting. If you grew up eating paletas de Limon from the ice cream man, then you will really enjoy ordering the nieve de limon slushee drink. Paired with tacos gobernador, which is basically grilled shrimp quesadilla tacos. I really enjoyed the combination of flavors that this restaurant brings out in its dishes and look forward to my next visit. Can't wait to try the margaritas next. read more

I had to shout out about the incredible service we received from Ashley at Kalaveras during lunch on Tuesday. From the moment we sat down, she was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind - the kind of service that makes a meal memorable. Ashley anticipated everything we needed without ever hovering, made recommendations, and made sure everything came out perfectly. I can tell she really cares about the customer experience. It's rare to come across someone who goes above and beyond with such a great attitude. I left not only full, but really impressed. If you go to Kalaveras in Uptown Wittier on a Tuesday for brunch or lunch, ask for Ashley. She is a true professional and made our visit outstanding. Thank you for such a great experience. read more

Unfortunately, we were visiting family in LA for a funeral. We were looking for a quick bite, more like a snack to eat that was near the Hilton where we were staying. We stumbled upon Kalaveras and decided to give it a try. The wife and I ordered some flautas to share. My wife had a drink and I had a soft drink. A very nice spirited server helped us, her name is Sierra. I had no expectations on the flautas; I am a stickler when it comes to them, so my expectations were none (saves me from being disappointed) but to my pleasant surprise they were very good and tasty. I liked the area we were in. It is a nice quaint little part of LA. It felt cozy and safe to me. Sierra was very pleasant, patient and gave off good energy. I asked her how long she had been in the business, because she is very experienced in Customer Service skills. (I used to teach classes on Cust. Serv.) I really appreciated her and I hope this company recognizes what an asset she is to the company. I hope she is being compensated well so she stays working happily there. Serving hungry hangry people is no easy task, but she makes it look easy. It is hard to fake energy, either you have good energy or you do not and Sierra does. *Thank you, Sierra, for making our first visit a memorable one. We were traveling from the Sierra Foothills, CA 6 hours away from LA. Keep doing what you are doing as long as you enjoy it. I want you to know there are customers out here that appreciate your Customer Service skills. A&A PS I am the baldy with a goatee and a pretty wife you gave a card too when I asked you how I can make a review on your service. read more

Went for Taco Tuesday.I missed happy hour by a few minutes (bummer) but I liked the Tacos and the toppings were plentiful. I also ordered the esquites, that was a big let down. The menu said " slow roasted corn". For the price (12$) I expected fresh corn. What I got was canned corn which I could have gotten got for $1 at the Ralph's down the street. I will go back again for the tacos- but will make sure to get there a few minutes earlier so I can save on the margarita.. and not bother with the esquites. read more
