We went for brunch with 4 adults and 4 children (12 and over counts for adult price) on Sunday morning at 11:30. Food: The chilaquiles bar was innovative and I loved the chance to have it made right in front of me. The gave a generous amount and I couldn't eat all, so maybe share. I also had pozole, tacos with fresh tortillas, shrimp ceviche and flan. Not everything was "authentic" but all was good. Everyone enjoyed their food and the kids REALLY liked the chocolate fountain. Drinks: Kids had lemonade and soda, adults had mimosas that were premixed. The waiter hustled refilling out drinks and cleaning our plates. Ambiance: with our group size we were in the banquet area which isn't separate from the dining area but may be louder than the restaurant - it's kind of an add-on and was quite loud. There was a big birthday party going on though and that's the main reason we were having a hard time chatting in our group. Price: With mandatory 18% tip it was almost exactly $50 each person and even though we all ate a lot, I'm not sure it was worth the money (especially for the non-alcoholic kids and adult). They give you 2 hours to eat and enjoy drinks, but we couldn't have eaten more even if we sat for longer. Called and spoke with manager Javier and he apologized and refunded the extra charge and stated that's illegal and would speak with the server. Just visited for my 33rd birthday and had such a wonderful time. The cucumber margarita was my favorite from their margarita flight, although the Jamaica is a close 2nd, and the molcajete impressed me with the variety of grilled meats, and the amount they pile on. For a group of 3 adults and 2 kids, we payed around 150 bucks before tip, and I could barely stand up to leave I was so full. The beach is conveniently 3 blocks to the west, so all in all it was a fantastic evening with good food, good drinks and a nice walk. My friends and I had a waiter recently who ended up double charging on rice and beans, and on top of this; input incorrect orders on two of our meals then proceeded to blame us for not speaking up about it when he read it back mumbled and unintelligible under a mask. They also charged us for the meal they got wrong and sent back to the kitchen so we paid and ended up noticing and having to correct his error. A few months back before this time, we had another older waiter try to sell us like a car salesmen on more drinks and more food and not taking no for an answer like he's on commission and rude when answered with a no. I arrived just before 11am on Sunday and was surprised to find the place empty, especially for brunch: the place didn't start getting busy until 1pm, so it pays to go early! Our server, Alfonso, was very friendly and accommodating, even though we waited 45 minutes to order (as we were waiting for a friend). We started with the mimosa, which for $25 for three servings each was a great deal. We opted for pineapple and passionfruit, and I preferred the former (tart and sweet) than the latter (a bit too sweet for me). I ordered three tacos: barbacoa, pescado, and camote. Pescado was my favorite, with a light, airy crispy outer shell and the most tender, flaky interior. Camote was my least favorite, as the mint salsa overpowered the sweet potato flavor. Prices were okay at $4.50, given that we were in the Riviera Village. Portion sizes are HUGE: my friends got the quesadilla and camarón bowl, and you really get what you pay for. Kalaveras is a solid spot with decent prices and some great deals on drinks (with Margarita Mondays and Mezcal Wednesday). Definitely great for brunch and beach vibes! read more
