Kalaveras is great. This is our favorite location, but there are others. We used to love the one in Marina Del Rey, but I think it is closed. All have similar menus, this one has a great Happy Hour. I have posted photos of a few of the locations, but it matters not, because the food is the same and great no matter which you pick. But go to this one. The food is amazing. It is Mexican food at its best. They have the best fresh chips and the guacamole is handmade and so good. We love the combinations plates and any fish or shrimp you order will be wonderful. This prices are fair for the fresh food you get. All of them, especially this one in Redondo is ever so comfortable and most of the time pretty calm. They do have TVs and when a game is on it can be a tad loud, just have them sit you away from the bar. The service is nice and fast and really kind. They are great with kids. As stated prior, I'm typically not a one and done type reviewer, but exceptions can, and will be made... First off, I thought i just got off a cruise ship in Ensenada!!! Lively joint, tons of decorations, musica blasting, whistles blowing, etc. Looking good... Promptly seated and greeted by staff. Drink orders placed relatively quickly and delivered not quite as quickly. I thought, "thats ok", as they were a tad busy. Not packed, but busy. Afterwards, I also requested additional chips, which BTW, never arrived... That is where it started a slow roll downhill that quickly spiraled into a steep hill, no brakes situation. After 15 or so minutes, our server, who shall remain anonymous, takes our order. Pretty simple, the camarron tacos for me, fajitas for the wife. They arrive, again about 15 min later so, not too bad. As for the food, I can only speak on behalf of my tacos and I must say, they were very enjoyable. Wifey said the fajitas were "bland and not well seasoned". A very basic "just ok". I only finished two of the three tacos. Then, literally after we had both been finished with our meals and drinks for at least 20 min, our server comes back and asks if we would like anything else. At this point obviously not... And by this time, after having already been there for nearly an hour and a half, (with only 2 hrs in the meter across the street), we called it an evening. Well guess what, pardon the pun but Houdini finally and magically reappears, (after at least another 15 minutes), arriving back with our check and a doggie box. I was gonna pay cash on the bill but due to the denominations in our possession, it would have resulted in a tip much more than he deserved... Ended up with 8 minutes on the meter. I had dinner here last night with my dad, and while the ambiance is really nice and the service was decent, the food was a major disappointment. We both ordered the steak fajitas. For starters, they didn't arrive "sizzling" like fajitas typically do. The steak strips themselves lacked flavor. The flour tortillas had a strange, sweet twinge to them that I've never experienced before and really didn't enjoy. To make matters worse, the rice had a distinct fishy flavor to it. I'm used to fajitas coming standard with sour cream and sometimes a little guacamole, but they didn't include either here. Food and drinks were delicious! I ordered Chicken Mole Enchiladas and my partner had the Asada Plate. The asada was flavorful and juicy honestly out of this world. Enchiladas were delicious and had a very rich mole sauce. Parking is iffy depending on if you're familiar with the neighborhoods or what time you come. there's a small lot next door and a good amount of street parking if you're willing to walk a little block. The music is loud and the lights are dim with some neon ambiance lights which is a fun little vibe but I wouldn't recommend for a family unless you're okay with less talking or honestly sitting outside would be nice too! The service was great as well. I unfortunately forgot our servers name but she was very sweet and attentive to the party until later in the evening when it took a while to get our check sorted out but it's to be expected on a busy Saturday night in Redondo. The ambiance is great, AMAZING FOOD, and of course soft serve margs which are soooo delicious. my favorite is the lime one and the mango one. you can get a flight for 25 bucks where you get to try all the flavors! also- the quesabirria tacos and consume is out of this world- some of the best I've tried. But this place is horrible. 3 times is not a charm, I actually felt queasy. I told the manager (the one on the phone was great) I went in and the other manager had an attitude. My favorite is the chicken taquitos but this trip we started with the margarita sampler (big smile) and had two lunch specials (drool). My husband rated the combination plate with 1 cheese enchilada and 1relleno a 10 out of 10. I had a combination plate with two crispy shell tacos, and I would rate it an 9/10. I had a couple bites that were a little fattier than I would like but that is a personal choice I think. It was so much delicious food. We will definitely be back. Big shoutout to our waiter, Martin. Service was crazy fast -- we got our food in about five minutes, no exaggeration. Drinks came out just as quick. He checked on us every 10 minutes, always on point, and every time we ordered another round he brought it with speed. The food slapped too. I had the enchiladas de mole, my girl had a wet burrito, both super fire. Definitely recommending this spot to anyone. When we arrived, the host told us it'd be a 45-minute to 1-hour wait unless we had a reservation. Fair enough... except there were plenty of open tables, and a bunch of people were either waiting around or straight up leaving because of the wait. So I got smart--hopped on Yelp and guess what? They were taking reservations! I booked one for 10 minutes later and suddenly... boom, we had a table. When I went back to the counter and said we had a reservation, the staff laughed and whispered to each other, "She didn't have a reservation." But they had no choice--they seated us. Now here's the real kicker: after we were finally seated, it took 15-20 minutes just to get our drink and food order taken. Our server only came to our table twice the whole time we were there. We even saw a group of 7 people experiencing the same issue--long wait, ignored service. Turns out it was one of the girl's birthdays. Her boyfriend looked stressed trying to figure out what to do, so I helped him make a Yelp reservation too--and they got seated just like we did. At least her birthday was saved. Honestly, I'm still confused. Why would a business choose to let tables sit empty while customers walk out the door? It's like they're actively turning away money. This place on Cinco de Mayo is a vibe!! However, no Happy Hour for this specific day wasn't. But still a great place for the energy, drinks, and good Mexican food. It's very loud, so be prepared to shout or not talk, they have tv screens to watch sports. We did get asked to leave after about 1.5 hours, probably since it was a busier night and we were basically done with our meal but felt somewhat rushed out especially after waiting to be seated with a reservation. Parking is metered or you can find free street parking on the "aves" and walk over. The interior decor is so fun and aesthetically pleasing. Great spot for a date night or larger groups. They do have specials throughout the week. I must be weak or their margarita slushes are really strong, so lightweights beware! The food was fresh and came out quickly! The asada bowl was basic, but enchiladas were delicious. Lucero was a very friendly waitress who checked in on us throughout the meal. It's smaller than their usual size but, 3 of them with lots of salad toppings would make a very nice and healthy lunch. The salsa bar is more like a salad bar, I'm not kidding! The decor was just ok, but the music was good. The drink called soft serve margaritas was nasty and too sweet. It should be sold as a soft serve froyo. We also got a soft serve margarita, the bartender was not our server, but if you were lucky to have him you got the Cadillac looking one , while we got the sad looking one. Now on to tacos. Two wet soggy interiors juice all over the plate. So now tortillas are wet also. The taste, none, got two different ones and both tasted like no added any seasoning. He kept popping up at our table every 5 minutes asking, "Are you good?" while staring directly at him. Like sir, I promise he can survive without a wellness check every 3 seconds . The food was amazing, but the extra attention was taking me out. He was loud, dramatic, and seemed way more invested in my boyfriend's dining experience than mine . He definitely needs to work on his attitude, basic manners, and being more professional. Nothing stood out, but they were reasonably priced and served quickly. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the restaurant allowing a patron to smoke cigarettes on the patio. This person smoked at least three cigarettes during our time there, and staff did not intervene until we complained. This negatively affected our time and made the space uncomfortable. On my visit my meal resembled the bland taste similar to food served at an American sports bar, such as hamburgers, wings, etc. Everything about my meal lacked flavor and the color of the food was pale also. The guacamole was even a light green. The refried beans were a light brown, the Mezcal Margarita was also light on the Mezcal. You can't really go wrong with nachos as an app. 3.5/5 - Carne Asada: a little on the spicy side for some, but nothing too hot.
