The Burrito
Allene A.

Amazing service and staff! Shout out Ana she was literally the best. Did bottomless mimosas and the were QUICK to refill and accommodate flavors. We had a group of 9 so we def kept them busy refilling our flutes lol Music a lil loud but hella seating and vibes inside. The adobada is BOMB and huge. The burrito is whatever, cheese grilled on the outside and not the inside. Chilaquiles were not soggy yay!!

I stopped by Kalaveras in Fullerton on a Thursday evening after work after getting off the train. I've seen the restaurant plenty of times, but lately I've been trying to check out places that I haven't been to before, so I figured I'd give it a try. The restaurant has a very colorful atmosphere with upbeat music, and it definitely has a lively feel to it. When I walked in, I was greeted right away and asked if I wanted a booth or a table. I said whatever was available, and I was seated almost immediately. I looked over the menu, ordered a beverage, and decided on the shrimp enchiladas. The menu didn't say whether they came with rice and beans, so I asked my server, Emmanuel, and he confirmed that they did. Quite honestly, everything was great. The drink was delicious, and the shrimp enchiladas, which were $23, came out fresh and hot. The rice and beans were also very flavorful, and I finished my entire plate. Mind you, I came by myself and not with a group, so I know that can sometimes make for a different experience. Even with that in mind, I was really impressed with both the service and the quality of the food. I had no complaints. Kudos to Emmanuel and the rest of the staff for a great experience. I'd definitely come back, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kalaveras if you're looking for a good meal in the area.

Came here last night, and our server told us our total was $95 and didn't give us a receipt. My friend gave him $100 and he asked if we wanted the change, we told him he can keep the change. They had my credit card and forgot to give it back to me, so we had to wait a while. While we were waiting for my credit card, we asked for the receipt, and our actual total was $80 flat. This guy basically tipped himself. Totally unprofessional and weird.

Saturday ight with friends.

The Food is Delicious I had The Esquite appetizer and it was the drinks are amazing too Sal The Bartender does Killer Chamucos try them out!!! Emmanuel was our server and he was great. The Management team is phenomenal Ismael and a Gustavo are super friendly and informative. The Ambiance is the best Think Mexico Style in Orange County. We had the chance to see Bliss Band with Vanessa from Tease perform and they got down!! Definitely coming back again to try their Karaoke night on Thursday's.

They offer reservations, which is great because it ended up being packed due to a soccer game. There's two entrances which was a bit confusing but eventually we found the one with the host stand. The host helped us pretty quick and we were seated in a booth. Our waiter was Brandon and he was great, he checked on us often throughout our visit. I ordered the Mi Novia Fresa, the Lomo Saltado and the Churro Sandwich. The drink had a nice strawberry taste with sugar on the glass. I ordered my Lomo Saltado to be chicken but unfortunately they gave me steak and they had to remake it. When I got the right one though it tasted very good! The Churro Sandwich was exceptional, great crispiness and drizzled with a strawberry sauce. I would come back just for the sandwich alone!

Margarita Flight

Gotta say, this was a pretty cool place! Since the weather has been pretty hot, we decided to sit outside. The Margarita Flight has an aesthetic presentation however the drinks were STRONG. Wish I tasted more of the fruity flavors instead of pure alcohol. The Pepino one was probably the best tasting out of the four. I was skeptical about the nachos but the asada was REALLY GOOD! The meat was flavorful and tender. The ceviche tasted really bland, almost nothing. My friend who doesn't like seafood whatsoever had no trouble eating it because it had zero flavor. Would recommend to skip this next time. Not pictured but we last ordered the Mangonada Slushie because I saw another table had them and it looked so tasty! Unfortunately the mango taste was lacking and it was mostly alcohol :( I would definitely come again because the vibes were great. The food and drinks are more on the pricier side though. But they even had a live band playing inside playing Latin bangers (according to my friends).

This place was good but nothing too special. Their mixed drinks tasted really watered down but their shots come out pretty cool. The food was decent. I think their best quality is the design of the restaurant. The service was good.

Kala Bowl with chicken

Made a reservation and check in was easy and we were seated immediately. Our server was Manny and he was there any time he was needed with friendly and prompt service . My sister and I hit the lunch specials, Lunch Fajita plate and one of the Kara Bowl (?) with chicken. Both meals were outstanding. The Jalapeño carrots were a nice adder to the fajita plate. Chicken was well spiced and moist. The flour tortillas appeared to be fries made fresh made. A great lunch for a great price

We had such a great experience at Kalaveras! The staff are so friendly, and the food is incredible. There are pretty frequent deals (i think a happy hour and then a daily deal?) and so the $ for the quality and quantity of food was amazing. Thanks for a great experience!

We stopped in to kick off our weekend after work and had a great time. Everyone we met was so nice and welcoming, it honestly felt like hanging out at a friend's house. Salvador and Theresa were amazing bartenders, checking in on us and making sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the empanadas and my boyfriend got the Kala Burrito. He was very happy with his meal, and the empanadas were super flavorful. We'll definitely be back!

Bronny was fun, friendly & fast! Our glasses were never empty & he made sure we were always happy! The food was so good & big. I made 4 tacos out of 2! The corn was delicious too! Enjoyed the music & watched the woman's golf too!

We were there on Sunday, October 3rd around 3pm. We asked who the owners were because we were really impressed with the place and thought they might be the same owners as another location we had visited. There was absolutely no bad intention behind the question. The male bartender told us that no one name drops anymore. I understood what he was saying and was more than willing to move on. But then I asked him if the bar offered whiskey sours and he responded, "You really don't know what you're doing here and what you want." I was honestly so taken back by that comment. I don't normally stay quiet when someone speaks to me disrespectfully, but I was so caught off guard that I didn't even know what to say. Before that, he had also yelled out to the host that she didn't need to worry because we didn't know the owners and that she could relax. The whole interaction was completely unnecessary and made us feel very uncomfortable. We came in wanting to enjoy the atmosphere and have a good time. Instead, we left feeling disrespected and uncomfortable. There is a way to speak to customers, even if you feel they are asking questions you don't like. We did nothing to deserve that kind of attitude. The Blind Rabbit may be a great place, but unfortunately, the way we were treated by this bartender completely ruined the experience for us. Customer service matters, and unfortunately, ours was extremely disappointing.

We had reservations for 7:45 p.m. on a Friday night and arrived about 10 minutes early. There was no signage or communication letting us know that we were supposed to wait outside before being seated. After standing outside for about 15 minutes with no one coming to check on us or explain what was going on, I finally went inside to ask. Waitress was a bit rude and said to wait outside which again how were we supposed to know? We were seated about five minutes later. Once seated, we waited another 15-20 minutes just for our waitress to come over and take our drink order. She didn't ask if we wanted appetizers or if we were ready to order food. We then waited another 15 minutes for our drinks to actually arrive, and unfortunately, both were watered down and didn't taste anything like they were described. Table next to us ordered the fun drink with the design yet she got no design. At this point, it had been over an hour since our 7:45 reservation, and no one had even taken our food order. I literally had to ask our waitress when she was going to take it. She was nice and apologetic and explained that they only had one bartender working. I understand that wasn't her fault, but I really don't understand why a restaurant would staff only ONE bartender on a Friday night, especially when they're accepting reservations. We ultimately decided to leave because the service was just too slow, and we figured we were better off going somewhere else. The two other parties sitting near us also ended up leaving after ordering drinks because of the slow service, so we clearly weren't the only ones having this experience. The concept and atmosphere have a lot of potential, but management seriously needs to address the staffing and service issues. A reservation shouldn't turn into more than an hour of waiting without even getting the chance to order food.

You can make a reservation on their website. My first cocktail was the Blood & Ink (Cynar 70, onion skin syrup, pomegranate, $18). It drinks on the bitter side with some light sweetness. She liked this a lot and ordered it as her second drink. Her first cocktail was the Sweet Intoxication (Lemon Hart 151, Fernet, falernum, cold brew, $20). This drink had some good complexity with bitterness and good coffee notes. It has a mole foam on top with a cinnamon sprinkle. You get a little of the foam with each sip which tones down the 151 and adds some additional flavor and texture. We were in the mood for some food, so we ordered a few items. Their food menu is more small bites than full entrees. If you are looking for a full meal, dine next door at Les Amis before your visit to Chapter 4. I had the Steak & Fries ($20). The steak was seasoned well, is pre-cut, and there were some onions and peppers in the mix. I would guess its three to four ounces of meat, and it comes with a good garlic sauce. The round-cut fries were good, and there were a lot of them. This was the perfect plate since I wasn't hungry enough for a full entree. She had the quesadilla with chicken ($17). It is made using pita bread, and is filled with chicken, cheese, and some veggies. It was good and filling. Next, I had the Black Garlic Old Fashioned (bourbon, black garlic demerara, bitters, smoked, $22). This has a great presentation as the drink arrives smoked in a tall glass container. First the smoke is poured into the glass, followed by the cocktail. It drinks very smooth with some light sweetness. The garnish is a roasted garlic clove. I ate it, and it was surprisingly sweet with only a light garlic flavor. We had one more round from the regular menu. I had the Prophet and Loss (pandan, coconut rum, velvet falernum, bright citrus, silky mango pineapple foam, $18). The grassy flavor from the pandan stands out with coconut underneath. The foam top is a little sweet, and I actually liked the drink better as more of the foam mixed in to the rest of the drink. Maybe I'd stir it a bit next time. She had the Pasilla & Banana (mezcal, pasilla syrup, banana liqueur, pineapple, lime, chocolate bitters, $18). It drinks mezcal forward, but not too much, with banana and a subtle heat underneath. Service was great, friendly and prompt. Even the owner, JC, was helping out with service on a busy Saturday night. We enjoyed the food and drinks. I really like the cocktail program here. They offer a wide selection of original cocktails, they actively add new drinks to the menu, and they use a great variety of spirits and ingredients you don't often see. We will be back soon!

For cocktail lovers, they are doing some really cool stuff there. I got 2 savory cocktails (Mariposa & Aquatinted), the former was more my speed, but I always appreciate when restaurants experiment more in the savories for cocktails. Their signature list has many unique flavor combinations, and I'm looking forward to our next visit to try more! Food-wise: no misses for us. We debated going for a bunch of small plates (easily doable with their menu), but the sea bass was calling to us. Split that + the Wagyu Short Rib. Both were delicious, but the Wagyu was a little under salted for me.
