As soon as you walk into the Kalaveras the vibe is immaculate. I love the dark decor contrasting with the neon street art. The food was amazing, I had the barbacoa omelette and basically inhaled it the meat was so tender and melts in your mouth. To drink I had the mimosa flight, my favorite was the hibiscus mimosa. The service was also great, our server Ana was great! Very attentive, came to check on us throughout our time there from start to finish. Had a good experience here! They have brunch specials, which was nice. I tried the bottomless micheladas and got the mango with Modelo. It was okay for me since I'm not really a michelada drinker, but I'd probably try something different next time. For food, I had the barbacoa omelette, and it was really good! I would definitely recommend it if you're coming for brunch. Ana was our server, and she took great care of us. We came to celebrate our friend's birthday, and he was so surprised when they came over and sang "Happy Birthday" to him. I thought that was such a cute and fun touch! We visited on Friday 8/21, I will preface this with this is somewhat of a mixed review. We had a party of 10, the dining experience was pleasant. We were seated in a booth, which to my surprise was very spacious and comfortable! The ambience was a cool vibe lots of colors and art. Our waitress was top-notch, very accommodating and had many drink suggestions which we appreciated. We were told the restaurant provides one basket of chips and salsa, additional request we would be charged, which was a surprise for a party of 10. We were there to see the live band which started at 8 PM. While waiting We enjoyed fajitas, tableside guacamole, and rolled taquitos. All were good, the fajitas were plentiful and served enough for two people. Please note, they will only split the check maximum two ways, no matter the party size. Now onto the bar/band area. We moved into the band area at exactly 803 and to our surprise there were many tables already occupied. Luckily there is outside seating, which was very comfortable so we moved into that area. We were approached by the bartender and proceeded to order drinks, we informed that we requested a few separate checks which we were told we could not and only one tab allowed per party. We asked if we could just pay cash at the bar and our bartender replies, "I am the bar". Although fairly attentive, he was lacking in customer service skills. A few went to the inside bar to order two sodas, paid cash and came back. At the end, we requested our check and noticed the sodas were on our tab. We requested to have it removed and provided the receipt from the inside bar to which he took, crumbled and put in his pocket. I asked for the receipt back, and to adjust our receipt. Meanwhile, a few others from our party went to the inside bar to order additional drinks and unfortunately were ignored for a period of close to 15 minutes, while standing at the bar. We did contact the manager twice during our visit, but unfortunately got no resolve. It's unfortunate, but I would like to share these details for awareness and training purposes. read more

Absolutely phenomenal service! We stopped into Kalaveras just for a drink and an appetizer, and this young man completely made our experience. Francisco was charismatic, engaging, and genuinely took the time to chat with us and make us feel welcome. His personality is absolutely infectious! Francisco is an absolute asset to Kalaveras, and I hope management knows what a gem they have on their team. Great service can make a quick stop memorable, and he definitely did that for us. Came here last night, and our server told us our total was $95 and didn't give us a receipt. My friend gave him $100 and he asked if we wanted the change, we told him he can keep the change. They had my credit card and forgot to give it back to me, so we had to wait a while. While we were waiting for my credit card, we asked for the receipt, and our actual total was $80 flat. I stopped by Kalaveras in Fullerton on a Thursday evening after work after getting off the train. I've seen the restaurant plenty of times, but lately I've been trying to check out places that I haven't been to before, so I figured I'd give it a try. The restaurant has a very colorful atmosphere with upbeat music, and it definitely has a lively feel to it. When I walked in, I was greeted right away and asked if I wanted a booth or a table. I said whatever was available, and I was seated almost immediately. I looked over the menu, ordered a beverage, and decided on the shrimp enchiladas. The menu didn't say whether they came with rice and beans, so I asked my server, Emmanuel, and he confirmed that they did. Quite honestly, everything was great. The drink was delicious, and the shrimp enchiladas, which were $23, came out fresh and hot. The rice and beans were also very flavorful, and I finished my entire plate. Mind you, I came by myself and not with a group, so I know that can sometimes make for a different experience. Even with that in mind, I was really impressed with both the service and the quality of the food. I had no complaints. Kudos to Emmanuel and the rest of the staff for a great experience. They offer reservations, which is great because it ended up being packed due to a soccer game. There's two entrances which was a bit confusing but eventually we found the one with the host stand. The host helped us pretty quick and we were seated in a booth. Our waiter was Brandon and he was great, he checked on us often throughout our visit. I ordered the Mi Novia Fresa, the Lomo Saltado and the Churro Sandwich. The drink had a nice strawberry taste with sugar on the glass. I ordered my Lomo Saltado to be chicken but unfortunately they gave me steak and they had to remake it. When I got the right one though it tasted very good! The Churro Sandwich was exceptional, great crispiness and drizzled with a strawberry sauce. I would come back just for the sandwich alone! read more

Gotta say, this was a pretty cool place! Since the weather has been pretty hot, we decided to sit outside. The Margarita Flight has an aesthetic presentation however the drinks were STRONG. Wish I tasted more of the fruity flavors instead of pure alcohol. The Pepino one was probably the best tasting out of the four. I was skeptical about the nachos but the asada was REALLY GOOD! The meat was flavorful and tender. The ceviche tasted really bland, almost nothing. My friend who doesn't like seafood whatsoever had no trouble eating it because it had zero flavor. Would recommend to skip this next time. Not pictured but we last ordered the Mangonada Slushie because I saw another table had them and it looked so tasty! Unfortunately the mango taste was lacking and it was mostly alcohol :( I would definitely come again because the vibes were great. The food and drinks are more on the pricier side though. My sister and I hit the lunch specials, Lunch Fajita plate and one of the Kara Bowl (?) with chicken. Both meals were outstanding. The Jalapeño carrots were a nice adder to the fajita plate. It came with rice and beans too. I ordered it without crema. I liked the guacamole and opted for flour tortillas. Delicious! 10/10 I also ordered a fruit salad. It was fresh and tasty. The fruit included were watermelon, strawberries, mango and blueberries. The mango was not ripe yet. It was too firm. Other than that, I enjoyed the fruit. 9/10 My husband got the California burrito. He didn't like it. He said it tasted like French fries. He wouldn't order that again. 4/10 My husband ordered the taquitos and he loved those. The taquitos were very crispy. We are in the "bar area" is what you would call it, they do have a band playing. There is no proper server in the area, we at for half hour to even get a food order. I ordered a coke and taquitos, waited just under 20 minutes for a bottled coke. I told the server that I wanted a fountain drink, he then told me they only serve bottled soda, CRAZY because they are making mixed drinks. I was just irritated because service was horrible from the start. I left out the part when I called the ONE server over to ask for my drink again, he straight out his finger up and said to wait. WTH! I finally went to go ask for a manager, the server who I asked was like yes we have a manager and stood there and just starred at me. I was like CAN YOU CALL HIM. The server told me, no he is busy with three servers. At this point I just made my way over to the manager tapped him on the shoulder and was like I know you are busy but I will wait. I've been wanting to try this place for a while based on the great reviews I've seen, so I took the opportunity to treat a friend to a birthday brunch this past Sunday. I really wanted to love it, but unfortunately, I left feeling underwhelmed. It was supposed to be a beautiful, warm day, so I made a reservation for patio seating. When we arrived, the patio wasn't set up, and we were escorted to the main dining room instead. That was fine at first, as it was cool and comfortable but as the restaurant quickly filled up, it became quite stuffy, which was a bit disappointing. Since the restaurant was busy, I anticipated that service might be a little slow. We were there to celebrate and catch up, so timing wasn't a major concern. However, we didn't receive water until at least 10-15 minutes after being seated, and the chips and salsa arrived sometime later. We each ordered a mimosa flight, but only one arrived at first. The staff apologized and explained that the bar was backed up, so we shared until the second flight came out. Unfortunately, all of the drinks were served at room temperature. Beautifully presented, but not very enjoyable. As for the food, my dish came out several minutes before my friend's so mine was almost room temperature before we both began eating. My one friend said the chilaquiles were good and the other seemed to think the tacos were okay. I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito. It had good flavor, but it was very dry, which made it unappetizing. I only finished half despite being hungry. I'm not wasting calories on meh food. On a positive note, the service staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was lively and inviting. The team came by to celebrate my friend with a song, a complimentary dessert, and a $10 celebratory shot (upon request), which was a fun touch. However, despite the great ambiance and kind service, the overall experience didn't quite meet expectations, and I likely wouldn't return. read more
