I rarely leave reviews, but what happened at Kalahari Resorts in Sandusky, Ohio, on July 15, 2026, was so deceptive that I feel obligated to warn other parents. First, let me be clear: my children and my brother's children--seven children altogether--and I had an amazing time. The water park, accommodations, food, and attractions were fantastic. This review is not about the quality of the resort. It is about what I believe is a deceptive practice that targets families. I booked a one-night, two-day stay with early check-in, late check-out, and purchased the Ultimate Package. When we entered our room, there were numerous snacks and treats displayed alongside the items included with the Ultimate Package. To a parent walking into a room with excited children, everything appeared to be part of the package or a complimentary welcome gift. Only after we had already enjoyed our stay did I receive an email informing me that I had been charged $303.18 for those snacks. I immediately went to the front desk while I was still at the resort and spoke with a manager. His response was, "I understand, but I can only cut the bill in half." That response completely missed the point. The issue is not whether I should pay $303 or $150. The issue is that the snacks were presented in a way that reasonably led guests to believe they were included or complimentary. The manager claimed there was a note somewhere indicating the snacks were not included. If there was, it certainly was not obvious enough to prevent this misunderstanding. If you are going to charge hundreds of dollars for snacks, every single item should have a clear, unmistakable label stating that it is NOT INCLUDED and that consuming it will result in additional charges. Hiding a small disclaimer while placing the snacks next to the package items is misleading. As parents, we save for months to give our children a memorable vacation. We budget carefully for the room, the attraction passes, the meals, and the extras we intentionally choose. What we should not have to budget for is a surprise $303 snack bill because children naturally assumed the snacks left in the room were part of what had already been purchased. Frankly, I don't care if Kalahari refunds every dollar. My purpose in writing this review is to pressure Kalahari's management to stop this practice. If enough parents speak up, perhaps they will redesign how these items are presented instead of relying on confusion to generate additional revenue. To every parent considering a stay at Kalahari Sandusky: be extremely careful. Before your children touch anything left in the room, ask exactly what is included and what is not. Better yet, tell your children not to eat anything that has been placed in the room until you have verified that it is free. Kalahari has built a wonderful destination for families. It should be known for creating lasting memories--not for leaving parents with unexpected charges that sour an otherwise wonderful vacation. Until this practice changes, I cannot recommend Kalahari to other families without this warning. read more

Loved Kalahari but.. Started off getting there a few issues with check in but we made it in, we went in and did the water park. Everywhere outside near the slides (the blue, green, red and yellow, and the body slides) had wasps that were there 1 year ago. The whole line was scared of them Then we went to the B-lux I got me a chocolate shake and it was amazing, super filling and good We went to sleep. The beds were eh not the most comfortable but fine The next morning we went to the breakfast place. Horrible we thought we got food poisoning so the next morning we went to McDonald's instead Then we did the park till 6 it was wonderful however some of the slides, walking up them felt sketchy it wasn't only me it was the people next to me in line some slides were extremely dirty especially the ones above the lazy river Some slides were leaking water into the lazy river We went to the Italian restaurant and it was wonderful the service was amazing and the food was amazing We went to sleep and packed the next day. The carts are small but 2 worked Some other things The slides get dark, a lot of them, especially the rhino one and Victoria falls more lights would be amazing The water slides should be cleaner especially the ones near the flow rider A lot of the slides were down There was gray and dirty water coming out some slides The bed headrest broke and nobody fixed it The curtains don't shut fully Ai art at the arcade read more

An unreal place full of massive waterslides, liminal spaces, and incredible, Uber-American sights. The indoor waterpark is one of the best I've ever been to. Unfortunately it was cold and rainy so we couldn't enjoy the outdoor waterpark, but that didn't matter to the kids, who marveled at the towering water slides and play areas. The whole place was very clean, nothing like Great Wolf Lodge. Customer service was great everywhere we went. Like any theme park these days, EVERYTHING is monetized, and everything is VERY expensive. Nothing is complimentary, and there's no breakfast or fresh coffee in the morning for free. The room itself was... fine. We got a suite so the size was nice and the beds were clean and comfy, but the bathroom is bizarre. First, there is no fan in the toilet area. HUGE no-no and seems like an easy fix. Second, the sink is outside of the bathroom. I can see how if you have multiple people getting ready this could speed things up, but without a fan blocking some of the, ahem, noise, it makes things supremely awkward. When we got here we noticed that their stupid fireplace couldn't turn off and it was hot as heck. also some of the people here are very rude me and my 2 cousins got security called on us because we were in the convention center and it's a public area and we were just sitting at the table doing nothing to harm her. From arrival to departure it was definitely an experience! Lots of things for the kiddos to do, not so much for the adults. The rooms are very expensive with minimal amenities. I love the fact that the rooms have fireplaces and balconies other than that pretty standard. I also love that there is a lot of sleeping space, the queen room sleeps like 6 people. Overall cool experience, bring your own snacks and food and pack your patience and you will be just fine. Lastly, I've seen a lot of families with toddler kids and my personal opinion is that this is more for children 10 years old and older. read more

I have visited and stayed at Kalahari Resort on several occasions. it is a destination for families to come stay and play. There is an absolutely enormous pool area and they operate Spa facilities of all kinds as well. On site you will find several restaurants and there is ample room service available. I do want to emphasize that this is an absolutely huge resort hotel, so be aware of where you book your room within the facility. You may wind up doing some indoor walking to get to the restaurant or pool that you're visiting. It is also a destination for groups to visit and hold conventions, conferences, and other large meetings. The facility and staff are excellent for this purpose and there is a large conference center attached to the hotel and entertainment area. This is a benefit for people who are attending conferences and bring their family along. Nearby of course is the theme park Cedar Point, and many people choose to stay here while visiting the theme park. This makes it a prime destination hotel on the north coast of Ohio. read more

Stayed at the Kalahari again this year for Colossalcon. Starting to feel like they hate guests that stay during that event, even though it is the biggest event they have all year (I asked). I called a week prior to confirm everything was ok with my reservation, day of I preregistered about 3pm (check in starts at 4pm), then went through most of check in at the desk as I bought gift cards in advance. They checked me in and charged the cards then realized the 2 bed 2 bath suite I booked wasn't there due to a recent system update a month prior. They downgraded me to a 2 queen sofa and refunded the difference onto gift cards. First offered the wrong amount. This took 3 staff including a manager about 40 minutes and we weren't offered anything extra like a free bag or towel. I was afraid to ask as I was worried they'd penalize me or would mess it up and charge me. The room was on the far point of the hotel, window was open with no screen, and a broken window sill. There was only one ice water station other than water fountains throughout the conference center. The con center was far colder than the resort side (needed a jacket). Now I will say the parking was well managed, they had plenty of staff directing parking. The lazy river was closed most of our stay and I wasn't allowed to ride Dawn Breaker. They said it's cause I'm under 100lbs, but I was a 2nd rider not single as the posted guidelines only said single riders needed to be at least 100lbs. Early check out again for congoers (10 instead of 11am). The waterpark was at least clean. Some rides were closed, but not too long other than the lazy river. Room was also clean. Bottles were tamper proof for peace of mind. Microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker in room. Overall the stay was ok, but not great. read more

Unfortunately, this was the worst stay our family has had at Kalahari - this may very well be our last time coming here! We contacted resort staff three separate times with serious concerns during our stay and saw no action taken--only empty apologies. That lack of response was extremely frustrating and made it feel like guest experience was not a priority. Going back to the room for a break didn't help. Our room faced a solid wall, did not have a fireplace as advertised, and we dealt with constant loud door slamming and wall pounding from nearby cleaning staff. It was not relaxing and made it difficult to rest. The conditions in the waterpark were also unacceptable. The lines for the water slides smelled strongly of urine, as if people were urinating while standing in line, which was extremely unpleasant and unhygienic. The wave pool was especially concerning. Chunks of concrete were breaking off the bottom of the pool, and I cut my foot on one of these pieces, about the size of a penny. There was concrete grit throughout the water, which was very unsafe - I gave chunks to the staff to emphasize my concerns. On top of all of this, everything was freezing cold. The wave pool water was freezing, the slide water was freezing, and the hot tubs were not hot at all despite hour-long wait lines with 40+ people. Even the indoor temperature felt cold. For the cost of this stay, none of this was acceptable. Overall, this experience was not worth what we paid and fell far below expectations. read more

Our family had a great time at Kalahari overall, but one interaction really took away from the experience. An employee wearing a female name tag, who presented with a full beard, became confrontational with my 10-year-old son after he mistakenly referred to the employee as a man based on their appearance. Instead of responding with patience and understanding, the employee raised their voice and embarrassed a child. My son meant no disrespect--he simply reacted to what he saw. Regardless of how someone identifies, employees should treat children with kindness and professionalism. Unfortunately, my kids avoided this employee for the rest of our visit because they were uncomfortable, which negatively impacted what should have been a fun family experience. read more

We stayed at Kalahari for 3 nights with the Stay & Play package, and overall we had a great time with a few things that could be improved. We arrived around 1:30 PM and were pleasantly surprised that our room was already ready -- such a relief after traveling, especially with kids. However, the new luggage carts are definitely a downgrade. They barely hold anything, and if you have more than just a couple of bags, it turns into a hassle. Really hoping they switch back to the old style. The waterpark itself is always a blast, but I do wish the hours were longer. Closing at 8 PM on weeknights feels early when you're on vacation and trying to fit everything in. Same for the sweet treat shop -- we felt rushed trying to get from the waterpark to the room, get dressed, and then make it down to the arcade and grab treats all within about 45 minutes. We chose the Stay & Play package mainly for the arcade credit ($100 each night), but we didn't realize that when you use the package credits, the games don't give you tickets. That was disappointing, especially with kids who love winning prizes. On the positive side, the kids absolutely loved the Build-a-Bear experience. It was pricey at about $100 for two bears, but it is vacation, and they had so much fun that it was worth it. I also really liked the new charging wristbands -- super convenient and nice not having to carry a card around all day. As for comfort, the waterpark air could've been warmer. I remember it feeling much more comfortable in past visits, but this time I felt cold almost the whole time. The hallways were especially chilly. Food-wise, the Pizza Pub was fantastic. We had it delivered right to our room, and both the pizza and the chicken chunks were delicious -- honestly one of our favorite meals of the trip. Overall, even with a few hiccups, we had a fun stay and would visit again. Kalahari still delivers a great family getaway, just with a few things I hope they adjust back to how they used to be. read more

It's a bit early for a new review, so this one is simply for the response to a recent issue. Our past stay had a mixup with the adventure passes we selected. For all first-timers, apparently you can choose between indoor or outdoor adventure passes. Though we chose outdoor, the resort mistakenly gave us indoor. We missed out on our intended package, but when the resort was made aware, upper management became proactive in offering a solution. We appreciate that the staff cared enough to listen and understand our frustrations. We now know that this is a resort that aims to please and because of that we will return and continue to patronize Kalahari in the future. Guest services were very wonderful when I called downstairs from room like getting an ice bucket because there was not one in the room I was staying along with getting extra towels. I will be staying at Kalahari Resorts in Sandusky and plan to do water park next year because of the conference schedule. The souvenir cup was pricy based on each day and they gave me 3 cups for 3 days, but they should put a color sticker based on the guest's days of staying at Kalahari Resorts. We were pleasantly surprised arriving on a Saturday it was packed but everything went so smoothly! Someone met us at the kiosks and helped us login, let us know the scoop and sent us on our way! Not a hiccup at all! Our room was clean and ready before check in and the facility was so much fun! Took two preteens gals and they had a blast! Lifeguards were everywhere and very alert. Waterpark was clean and well maintained. Dinner was great at the Italian restaurant and our server was legit the coolest, wish I could remember her name! We love it here but i experienced some hiccups this time. I booked 3 weeks in advance, paid in full & completed early checkin only when arriving only to be told to use a kiosk and stand in line for 40min-1 hour for my room key and 4 waistbands. That is unacceptable. The kiosk malfunctioned & tried to run my car 3 times, said approved but it never went through for the taxes & fees. I don't understand why they wait to you arrive to charge for that. It didn't give my key or wrist bands & eventually it said to see the front desk/concierge. So much time was wasted during the process. After standing in line and waiting to get to the front, the receptionist lady walked away and didn't say anything to me . So I went to the lady that was next to me and she said she couldn't help me because I wasn't in her line. As if I wasn't standing there for a long time and she didn't witness what happened . I was getting annoyed . Eventually, a nice young man came to help me, but I was not happy ! The velet wasn't charged until after my stay which was odd because i booked that via their text message the day of b4 arrival. The kids had a wonderful time! We did enjoy the water park & it's amenities. However you can not connect you phone to the tv in you room; so it's outdated. No netflix, amazon prime or Disney plus; even though there is a option in the tv that shows connect. Smh, its false advertising. i did not get the pull out couch/bed that i requested when booking online 7/26/25 & when i messaged the staff about it while i was there 8/17/25 they just apologized & didn't make any accommodations! The food was great. The tenders are over priced because they only give you 2 inside the water park stand. I loved the burger & my drinks from the adult swim up bar. The kids souvenir cups are overpriced also. Of course i still got one for my niece & I. It was a nice lil getaway from home overall. It could've been better. This place sucks. We have stayed at the one in Wisconsin Dells which is very good so we expected same here. Not so. Far fewer slides indoors, just bigger pools (to try to make up for it?). Lines for the few slides outdoors were so crammed with people and moved so slowly, it looked like a tower rooftop scene from the last days of Vietnam. I suspect the local DMV has been put in charge of running the operation. Gouge you for price on everything and constantly try to up-sell you. Dells Kalahari has a decent Tom Foolery area with some indoor rides, go cart track, etc. This one just has a bunch of overpriced arcades - weeeeee (but not for the poor parents shelling out their last dollars to keep kids from rioting). If you try to make a run for it, better fill up your car first. This place is far outside town with a lot of farmland inneach direction. Best was a screaming match that took place in womens bathroom while we were there. Our daughter said security came in but just stood there and watched. Everyone else in bathroom was just watching, half-shocked. I told my daughter, next time bet $50 on whichever person looks meanest (tactic I learned in Walmart). Then we could recoup some of the money we lost on this sorry excuse for a vacation waterpark. Beyond that, the safe did not work when we first arrived and although we set the AC to go to 68, we never saw room temp drop below 74. I give it 2 stars instead on 1 because, to their credit, they let us check out early and refunded our last day. The only silver lining on this trip. Gosh, where do I start? I love this place. It's like a 2nd home to me. A son. A lover that got away. I go here all the time with family, and love the bar service. Jonny, the bar back, is so good at moving bags of ice. I felt safe letting my kids in the pool, knowing that a guy like Alex is closely watching, making sure nothing goes astray. The water park was cool. The hotel rooms were fine. Not enough outdoor seating for the amount of people that are there. It started to get cloudy and there was lighting someone near the resort so we were told to go inside. That was a mess! We headed inside to the indoor water park and it was humid and uncomfortable at first. Once you dunked your head in the water it was fine. I'd recommend wearing water shoes as the ground had a gritty uncomfortable feeling to it. My favorite area was the 21+ swim up bar with outdoor seating. But this means someone needs to watch the kids. Drinks are of course overpriced as well as the food but they do have refillable cups you can buy that you can get a price cut on. The arcade, I didn't go, but my nephews had a blast. Spent too much money as everything is again, overpriced. They did win a chicken and couple of big basketballs that are soft. I would suggest you ask for your receipt before leaving because they don't send it to you at checkout. I was charged for a movie, that wasn't watched. The staff are amazing. They were all super friendly, except one employee in the gift shop. He seemed less than enthused to be there. Also the prices at the gift shop are out of this world. Insane. The Lego set my grandson wanted was more than twice what it cost on Amazon. It was $29.99 in the kalahari store. On Amazon it was regularl 14.99 but on sale for 11.99. That is robbery. I wouldnt have bought it but my DIL had picked it out with my grandson, thinking it was $15 , as the other ones she was looking at were. Perhaps it was priced wrong. The room we booked was a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite with patio door to outside seating area. It was super spacious, clean and comfortable. The parking is quite a distance from the front entrance so if you have trouble walking you should use valet or have someone else in your party drop you off before they park. Also if you have a wagon or are using hotel cart to bring in your luggage you have cant use the boardwalk because it has 2 sets of stairs. You have to go the long way around, the roadway that requires you to walk up an incline. You will get a good workout. The waterpark was good. The kids area was boring though. A bucket dumps water out occasionally but other than that you just walk up to different levels and then down again. Water comes down from above in some areas like a hard rain. The baby area has 4 swings and 2 little slides. It is a tiny area. We enjoyed the wave pool which has skylights above so it is bright. The other areas are kind of dark and gloomy. Overall it was a good trip. Was disappointed about the price gouging at the gift shop but I should have been more aware of what I was paying. read more

After years of going to Kalahari, I'm sad to have to put this horrible review, but after a year of no response and promised follow up, I think it's only fair to write it. Last year myself and a group of friends traveled from out of town to go to Kalahari in Sandusky for my birthday. We booked the reservation same day at the location after making several calls with their customer service representatives on site about the best way to book a room, big enough for our group. I was told that they were extended hours for the waterpark and we decided to head to Kalahari to celebrate. The staff at the front desk had a lot of difficulty trying to book us a larger room after we even offered to get two of the smaller rooms so we would have enough passes in rooms and beds for the children that were with us. After about an hour in the lobby, we were able to be booked, but it was well into the evening. I voiced my concern about not being able to use the park for too long, but they assured me that the hours were later that day. Upon arriving at the waterpark, we were stopped by staff, who told us that the park was closed to a private party. Very frustrated with the delay, I explained how we were promised that we would be able to utilize the park. The staff member that was at the waterpark entrance, threatened to contact Security if we refuse to leave and we were escorted back up to the front desk. Being that myself is a person of color and several of the kids were, and the staff were all white.. I honestly felt that we were being discriminated because we did not at all pose any threat to the staff for them to threaten to contact Security when we had a valid concern. Front of staff offered to cancel our reservation for the inconvenience and advised us that they would have a manager provide us with the comp stay and gave us cards to give feedback and told us that we could also call and speak with a manager the next day because it was too late in the evening to resolve that at that time. Extremely frustrated with the whole situation we had no choice, but to return back to Cleveland late at night and some of us back to other cities. I really hope that someone at Kalahari can make this situation right or I and several of my friends and family will no longer be going to this location. read more

I recently spent 3 days at this resort attending a TAP Billiards's event . A pool tournament at a water park ? Well , this was my most favorite venue that the TAP league has ever hosted . I have been to many events for Tap and by far this is my favorite !!! The hotel room was spacious and spotless . You had your pick of multiple restaurants which were all amazing . The event was hosted in the convention center which was roomy , seating was so comfy , lighting was arranged over all the tables and the place was kept spotless . Bathrooms were kept spotless and clean . Being able to walk and stay at the same location was priceless . There was not one thing that I would change about the venue . The water park was amazing however it was dissapointing how the bucket was not going because of the new slide being built. Khalitrashi is more like it the crowds that are drawn here now are ignorant, loud, drunk, and violent. I was punched in the face for confronting two drunk guests out in the hallway for being noisy during quiet hours. My personal space was invaded by the assailant and when i pushed them both back with fully open hands as they were almost pinning me to the room door the one proceed to immediately hit my on the left side onlf my face. I called police big help they were they reviewed the camera footage and said I was being aggressive when I shoved the two guys out of my personal space. I and mlby extension my family were then evicted from the hotel mind you it was about a quarter to midnight when this whole situation went down. We went here for a full week. The park was over crowded and some of the attractions were really busy as expected. The arcade was nice. I hated the stupid machines for the check into water park. They barely work with it and are hard to use. This hotel had good food and high speed internet. The only problem I had was anytime I had a do not disturb sign on the door cleaners would come in anyway. Not even knocking. Came for a week long conference. Was quite impressed by the food and water park. They were doing renovations so there was some construction around but not too intrusive. The wristbands are handy for getting in and out of your room and skipping the locker rental. I could see this getting pricey if you were out of control but on a reasonable budget it's pretty affordable. Also, make sure you return your towels so you can avoid the $25 fee! read more

This visit we stayed in a king suite and I will for sure stay in this room type again. I love that there are full appliance electric stove, microwave (the plate would not stay on rotation but worked) dishwasher, full size fridge and enough plates, cups, utensils, and cookware to suffice a decent meal. We absolutely loved the balcony and that it had a full table (4chairs). I travel with a handicapped child and I always call ahead to make sure we are close to elevators or attractions, etc. We were in the furthest room from the water park and farthest away in the resort in general. We were next to the dumpsters and maintenance sheds. It was at least .25-.5 miles for my son to walk. It also didn't have handicapped accessible bathrooms. To compensate for the fact that we had the furthest room from the damn water park and attractions I rented the most expensive cabana (the big chill) in the water park so he wouldn't have to walk back and forth cause he physically could not do it. And since our room did not have handicapped accessible showers I was planning to have him use a family locker room/shower, they don't have one. So instead we were gonna use the women's locker room cause he still needs help with dressing, but he wasn't able to do that. Instead we were allowed to use a disgusting staff toilet/shower combo. Over all I spent $3000+ for 2 days in this completely non handicapped accessible establishment. No one ever got back to me about getting a closer room or any of these violations of the ADA. Very dissappointing. read more

Most everything was great. Food was really good. Resort was very clean. Very safe atmosphere. During the week is best. One thing I was NOT impressed with was the service at the fast food areas. Slow, no respect shown to the customers and a lack of motivation. Obviously, unsupervised. read more

That water was infected with caca never going back there.The snacks were nasty.And they water had bugs in it

Took my kids for 4 days, payed at check in, they locked us out of our room 2× and stole almost 2 thousand dollars from me after our 4 days. I emailed customer service and been ignored about me request for a refund. read more
