#RETROBABY Maples Motel is authentically retro, and very much family owned; it's been in their family, in one form or another, for at least three generations. Location: Almost perfect. As if the grounds of the motel are not park-like enough, there's a nature preserve and a metropark within walking distance. Also, it's a stone's throw from the back entrance to Cedar Point. (In case you didn't know, Cedar Point does have a lesser known, and much less busy, back entrance). The only POSSIBLE trouble with the location is the proximity to some train tracks. This doesn't bother me or my family; we sleep like logs. But if you're a light sleeper, you may have a problem. Pool: Clean, warm and nicely maintained. Plenty of lounge chairs. Rooms: Clean and comfy. A bit run down, but nothing major. (There was some loose wood paneling in our room (Not falling-off-the-wall loose, but loose). The TV/cable was fine, the mini-fridge was fine, and the sink/toilet/shower were just fine). The two queen size beds were soft. There was a bit of that "old motel" scent, so maybe you might want to open the windows or bring some air freshener. Free breakfast: The owners provide coffee and donuts, as well as granola bars and fresh fruit, in the office, from 6am until it's gone. I'd give MM five stars, because it's perfect for me, but if I did that, most people would think I was crazy; there are some minor (IMO) issues. However, if you're not too hoity-toity, Maples Motel rates a solid four stars.

Okay I don't know if this is mud or mold it still either way gross. I shouldn't pull the sheets back and go what the hell.Picture below. The sheets are rough and stained. My cheap Walmart sheets were more comfortable than that and less stained.if it stained and your running a hotle I'd be replacing them it they are that stained. The pillow so flat I had to use my cloths to prop up and still feel worse then I did before I got there. It a vacation not hell. The train ran all night. Not happy about that. I didn't realized I cursed becaused there was three on a row. Should be mentioned on booking.com and their main page. Oh the sign wasnt even lite. How is anyone supposed to see the place if there is mo lights in general on! In short most unclean and uncomfortable experiences ever and yes I stay in little motels before that were perfect.tgisvis definitelynot one of them. If I could I'd give zero stars.

With a good price, nice management, and a pretty if not loud setting, the Maples is a great deal. As others have said, you have to be really tolerant of the trains because they are right across the street and they are loud. Having grown up and lived near trains all my life, it was not a problem. My room was clean and had a small table with two chairs, queen size bed, mini fridge, a TV and a small bathroom. They took care of me and checked in on me and recommended places to eat if I wanted. I enjoyed walking around the grounds (out back there is a farm) and I spent a whole evening enjoying some porch beers outside my room. This is a classic, charming, but not amenity-laden place to stay. What you see is what you get and it was worth every penny.

Underneath our bed!!! The owner cleaned out our room while we were at Cedar Point, if only I had a photo of how horrible it was before.

This motel was advertised as a motel... when in reality it was a very low quality cabin. The mattresses were all rock hard and the carpet looked like it had never been cleaned since the opening of this motel.. which must have been a long time ago since there sign says we have color tv. I also posted a video illustration to demonstrate why spending 80$ on a decrepit "motel" room will not be worth it. Also when my brother kindly explained to the owner that they should advertise it as it is.. a cabin with no air conditioning or heating so that others will know when booking there room, and he just dismissed him saying that people should know by the price!!???? There is also a train that goes by every thirty minutes, shaking the ground making it impossible to sleep for more than thirty minutes at a time before being rudely awakened yet again. I recommend sleeping in your car over paying for that crap hole. I also think it is important to mention that I am an employee of the Hilton Hotels and I am no stranger to the importance of being honest to your guests about the experience you promise them. The owner of this motel will do whatever it takes to continue benefiting off of his guests while deceiving them about the experience they will soon discover is nothing as described on the website. Please get your act together and start caring about the people whose business you are benefiting from.

The owner's son welcomes me to Maples Motel!

Wanting a little getaway and not wanting to stay in a huge place or something super expensive, I found Maples on the internet. Being a lover of vintage and retro it looked good to me. After calling and booking a room (and I loved the young lady who took my call; helpful and friendly and that's a huge plus in my book) a friend of mine called who lives nearby. She offered me to stay in their upscale place but I turned her down. She then said I might like to stay at the Maples Motel! Upon my arrival I told the owner's son and cousin (Steve and Scott) of my friend's recommendation and they brought mom out to meet me. I was charmed and bought a t shirt for me and one to send my friend who lives on Maui. I used to spend time in the nearby area in the 60's so we chatted about where to eat and how things have changed or not changed. My room was small (ok with me). Didn't need the A/C and yes, the trains are very close and run often but I found that quite alright. I guess if you are a light sleeper you might have issues. I would love to see them decorate in more vintage/retro and there are some small repairs that could be done but would I go back again? Yes! Would I recommend? Yes!

    Love the t-shirts!

They also have a 24/7 store at the desk with sooo many snacks and drink options! They have multiple TVs, sittting areas and shuffle board/foosball in the lobby, which we saw lots of people enjoying. Our room was spacious. Plenty of room for storage. It smelled fresh and clean. The shower was perfect size, just wish the water was a bit warmer. The good: Waterpark and room were clean. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. Kids really enjoyed themselves (10 and 14). There are lots of restaurant options within 3-5 miles to fit any budget. The majority of lifeguards took their jobs seriously and enforced rules. It was less expensive than other indoor waterparks. Room fridge was great for storing snacks and drinks. Nearly everywhere in the hotel is crazy loud, but, the craft room was a great place to take a sensory break and slow down for a bit. The area by the aquarium on the third floor was also quieter often. There was a seating area for reading and tables available for boardgames with a view of the bay. The bad: We waited in line at 4:15 pm for a half an hour to just check in. They had a line of people filling the entire lobby with 4 staff checking people in. It was not streamlined at all. The changing room did not have a curtain or door on it. Nor did the bunk room. The only place to change privately was the small room off the bathroom with toilet and shower. Walls are paper thin. You will hear everything going on in the hall and the rooms around yours. We also happened to be right off the elevator bank which added a whole new level of noise. Elevators are slow and tiny. With luggage, you can fit 3-4 people tops. We chose the stairs almost every time despite our room being located on the 3rd floor right next to the elevators. That said, the stairwells are super loud as it's all metal and cement/concrete. Large attractions do close. The wave pool was closed half the day Saturday which was our kids favorite thing. You need a special card for any arcade, bowling, or golfing you do and that's an extra $3 charge plus what you load onto it. They have cute character "room doors" throughout the hallways. These are often right next to a room door and kids will push the buttons to make them talk all day/night. So many of the areas were unnecessarily loud. You couldn't hear anyone speak in the arcade or waterpark. Stairwells were like banging on metal drums while they echoed between 4 floors. The ugly: Their mini golf (albeit it glow course) is highway robbery. $10 per person (despite being told it was $6 by staff) and only 8 holes. The 9th hole was just putting your ball up a ramp into their skee-ball cup. If you mad it a fun sound went off, if you didn't, it collected it and played a failed sound. Our "bay view" window was COVERED in bird poop and cobwebs on the exterior side. The entire side of the building was filthy to look at. I would not suggest paying extra for the view. This might have been a one off experience in the activity pool but the one time we tried it, I had teenagers tackling me from behind as they fought over basketballs. I was pushed over multiple times by them when they crashed into me (and others in the pool) and nothing was done about it by parents or lifeguards. My kiddo and I eventually left because the ball he and another younger kid were playing with kept getting takin by the teens. Overall, it was a cheaper room option than other places but I'm not sure we'll be going back again. The extra fees for everything else adds up quick and sleep was nearly impossible with the noise level around our room.

Customer service was my biggest gripe. The check in guy was pretty cold at first, but later he was more helpful. I was especially disappointed with the snack bar staff. The water park snack bar is in a dimly-lit corner, and when I went in, there was no one visibly working there. After a minute, a lady came out from the back, and I asked if the snack bar was open at that time. She gave me a condescending look, and didn't say anything, as if I should obviously expect the location to be open, despite the lack of an open sign or employee behind the counter. Then another guy comes out and starts making the order and neither him nor his coworker talked at all, just kinda scowled and made my partner and I feel like we were doing something wrong just by being respectful paying customers. They were the kind of workers I'd expect to see at a run-down McDonald's late at night, not a family vacation resort. The hotel itself is also nothing special. The beds are small and not particularly comfy, but the rooms are clean and nice enough. But the walls are THIN and you hear way too much noise from other guests. Overall: good waterpark+okay hotel+bad staff=mixed experience
