We didn't see many people of various ethnicities and races other than white. Enjoyed walking on docks, visiting shops, shuffle board, Hawaiian ices, lunch at The Hotel, and walking all around. The experience is one that I've come to cherish. However, there are several drawbacks I would 100% recommend renting a cottage instead of staying at Hotel Lakeside (which is the reason for such the mediocre review). The rooms, while quaint, were very dirty in the corners and I wouldn't recommend looking under the bed unless you're a dust bunny aficionado. We were told that we were going to get a kitchenette which we did not receive (and apparently there isn't one in the entire hotel). My room was nice enough (besides for the dust), but my grandparents' room's air conditioning was not working and the room had a musty odor. Thankfully they were able to get the bridal suite on the second floor but even then, the bathroom was so small we were worried they would fall and hurt themselves. In terms of food, you don't really have many options. Besides for the hotel's restaurant, there are some coffee shops that aren't open for dinner, sloopy's and the New Mexican restaurant. The hotel's food is delicious but because there are only a few items on the menu, they can get old rather quickly. Sloopy's is nice for a few meals but eating that much unhealthy food will not make your stomach very happy. This is the other reason I recommend getting a cottage. Just so you could make your own home cooked meals instead of relying on eating out. Lastly, the porch. This is the most redeeming quality to the hotel. Looking out over the lake in the covered porch with everyone quietly reading or on their phones is incredibly peaceful and rejuvenating. In the end, I would recommend coming to Lakeside 100%. However, stay at the hotel at your own risk and definitely not for more than four days.

Super close to the Marblehead Lighthouse. They have many outdoor sitting and eating areas and a fire pit for your use. We walked over to the water and found lots of fossils embedded in the limestone which was so fun. Did have a nasty neighbor, Mr. Dorko, (I identified him through social media and property tax info) come over and yell at us about property lines while my daughter was playing in the water. He also used a bright spotlight to shine on my adult daughter while she was sitting by the water around dusk on another evening. Other than the a**hole neighbor, very highly recommended! However if you are a business traveler or someone who is looking for peace and quiet, consider other inns as this one is located off a busy street that is heavily patrolled by cops. We booked last minute because of a basketball tournament and there weren't many options available. The hotel had great reviews, so we decided to give it a try. To be fair, the rooms were relatively clean, and you can tell they've tried to update an older motel. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. The complimentary breakfast was simple but well done, and the older ladies running it were hardworking, welcoming, and kept everything stocked. The pool & hot tub were great. Almost no one uses it during the day. That said, for a room that cost nearly 300 a night, I expected more. The rooms are very small, the air conditioner was extremely loud, and there was a noticeable gap under the door that could easily let bugs or other critters inside. The biggest issue was that some of the posted rules didn't seem to be enforced. The pool was supposed to close at 11 p.m., but there was still quite a bit of activity afterward. There is also a picnic area where another sports team gathered with a large Bluetooth speaker playing music late into the night, making it difficult to relax and sleep. Overall, it's a decent place if you need a convenient location near Cedar Point, but be prepared to pay premium prices during peak times for accommodations that are fairly basic. Pro tip: Book directly with the hotel instead of using Hotels.com or similar sites. The direct rates were significantly lower than what the third-party booking sites were charging.

It's only slightly further out from the theme park than other hotels and infinitely worth the price reduction. The fancy old school neon sign out front is a helpful waypoint when you're coming back after dark (no missing your turn!). This isn't a chain location; it's independently owned and operated by a swell fella named Steve. Steve was very friendly and happy to have us for three nights. Each morning we were able to go over to the "office" (the back of his home) and snag free coffee, donuts, fruit, and granola bars (no COVID excuses!). He said hi to us or waved whenever he saw us enter or leave the property. And what a gorgeous piece of property it is! We both really enjoyed the more "homey" feel to this over the traditional parking lot + multifloor hotel. The rooms are small and honestly reminded me of my grandma's old house, which is probably accurate because this place was probably built around the 1950's. You can see it in the tile bathrooms and fixtures. That said, it is on the older side so there are some imperfections here and there if you look close. Some rusty grout, some warped wood, that kind of thing. Sure, it'd be nice if some renovations were done. But again, we spent the majority of our time riding roller coasters, not relaxing in our room so we really weren't seeking a "resort" experience. It all depends on what you're looking for in a stay. There is a pool which we unfortunately never got the time to utilize, but it looked really nice and the hours are generous. The ice machine worked really well so we were never without cold water to drink. The only thing that was missing that would've been really nice to have was a mini fridge/microwave so we could have some meals without going out. Each room also comes with a fold-out little bed so you can sleep an additional person or child. I actually ended up using it because it was softer than the full-sized bed. Steve was generous in supplying additional soap bars/shampoo during our multi day stay. The TV worked well and had all the standard channels. The wi-fi worked great for all my needs! A/C was functional and not too loud. Do note that this place is right next to the railroad tracks and trains will go by throughout the day/evening. We noticed the busiest time seemed to be 7am. The trains always blow their whistle while going by and it is quite loud.

However, when a business is open for 100 years, you have to give it a shot! First, I highly recommend that the owners hire a social media manager and post pictures that do this place justice. The grounds are super cute and the sign offers a great photo op! Walking into the room brought an enormous rush of nostalgia. It was cool to be able to stay in a place that my grandparents would have stopped at in their younger years. Most importantly, the rooms and bathrooms were super clean!! The room comes with a modern television and a small refrigerator. The property owners are very personable and, as part of your room fee, they provide freshly made local donuts each morning. The donuts are worth the stay alone. In this day and age, we were surprised to be able to find such a cool Experience for such little cost. Easy parking, beautiful pool (we didn't use it but it looked nice), amazing customer service. Without hesitation, we will stay here whenever we are back in town. Maples Motel is a historic treasure and I highly recommend staying here.
