Great location! 5 min drive to cedar point & the thirsty pony!!! The hotel had an easy check in, plenty of parking and the rooms were clean!!! There is a pool, swing set and picnic area too. The beds were firm, the shower pressure was the best I've ever had!!! Tv, mini fridge, iron board and hangers all in the room. Lots of cable stations. The free breakfast had a pancake maker, never seen this before!! Fresh fruit, hard boiled eggs, cereal, bagels, toast, donuts and fresh coffee & juice. This place is alright and is decent and the price was not too bad considering we stayed during Memorial Weekend, I ended up paying $100 dollars a night. The great part is it is very close to the park, around a 7 minute drive as the park opened around the 9am with pass holders. The cons are if you are planning on doing laundry, do not go here as the dryer was not working. The owner tried to help us fix it, but it would go dead after 5 minutes of drying. Washer worked okay. You are better off going to the other laundromat which is on the main road with the pet and car washing cleaning as what we did when we dried our clothes as we wasted around 2 hours trying to figure out the dryer and getting help. Room itself is not too bad. Bathroom was a little too small for my liking, but everything else worked. The soap, lotion is all hand pump. The maid comes in daily to change the towels which was nice. They did not fix the bed, but maybe because my dolls where in there. It does come with breakfast which is nice. Not the biggest, but nice to get some juice in the morning and some carbs. You do get the pancakes too and yogurt. read more

Sweet little motel near the entrance of Cedar Point. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The lobby was very clean so I felt good that the rooms would also be, and they were. Beds were comfortable, the ac worked, and we had a fridge and microwave. There is a cute little pool with two awesome slides that my kids loved. Breakfast in the morning wasn't bad. There was a pancake machine in addition to every carb you could want for breakfast + yogurt, fruit and hard boiled eggs. The only reason I gave this four stores is because the room was small, especially the bathroom (there really isn't a separate area to change), but other than that it was great. Motel was ok but for the price, you could definitely get something better in the area. This is set up like a motel where the doors are on the outside and there is no inside hallway. This means it can be noisy due to people walking outside being loud and the slamming of car doors. The rooms were ok but had that slightly misplaced sort of feel which is common in an independent motel. The showerhead was super low for some reason. It's only about 6 ft high. The only plus I see if that it's very close to cedar point. read more

Hotel said it has kitchenette so I expected like full size refrigerator, stove, and a kitchen sink but there were none except for mini refrigerator and microwave. Pull out bed couch is way thin, you could hear springs when u lay down on or move/roll. Its no good to get some zzz on that. Other full size beds are just nice and soft. Hey, theres cool thing is JACUZZI in bathroom!! Breakfast at 7-9am is nice but only con that they dont have bacon or sausages. Cereal selection is very limited. Coffee is ok. Juices is not bad. Lobby staff is really nice and they do give free water bottles is super cool. Price for per night isnt bad. Pool is nice size with two mini slides which it is fun. Best part is: drive to Cedar Point amusement park is only 7 mins and other places such as restaurants, mall & stores is all under 20 mins. read more

I booked this place because of all the reviews about cleanliness. It did not disappoint, our room was clean even to my standards. This is a family owned establishment and the owners could not be more hard working or friendly. The pool was cleaner then the one at the water park. Our stay was lovely and I highly recommend it if you want a no frills stay with an honest and clean experience. And, did I mention how close it is to the park and the best restaurants? On a sort-of last-minute trip to Sandusky, we were searching up and down the main road for a cheap but good hotel to stay in on Sunday night. We decided to stop at nearly every hotel, compare prices & amenities, and then select one. South Shore was the second hotel we went to. The man behind the counter originally quoted us at $98/night. My husband and I felt that was pricey and were about to leave when he said, "How about $70/night?" Much better offer, but we still wanted to shop around. We left. We went to other hotels, we found out how ridiculously overpriced some of the lower-end hotels were, and unexpectedly ended up back at South Shore to get a room! Because we came back, the man behind the service desk decided to give us one of the best available rooms for the night at the low price he quoted us earlier. It was very generous and hospitable of him to do that for us! We were given a room inside the actual hotel building -- not the ones with outside access near the pool (which is open until midnight! Whoa!). Our room was just perfect (and more than we expected). We had an extremely soft & comfortable king-sized bed, an area by the window with a table and two chairs for eating meals, a decent television (that my husband used -- not me), a wet bar, and a very clean bathroom with a large jacuzzi/jet tub! The bathroom also had soap and lotion dispensers on the wall next to the sink, and shampoo/shower gel dispensers in the shower. Very neat! We pretty much used everything in that room during our stay. If we ever need a hotel in this area again, we're coming here -- hands down. read more

We stopped here, like many others, to sleep close to Cedar Point and hit the park early the next morning. The kids were thrilled that the pool was open til midnight so they could swim after dinner. If you plan on hanging out at the pool that late but not swimming, bring bug spray! I think I nearly got carried away 'supervising' the swimmers. Overall, our room was clean and comfortable. I didn't shower, since I was just getting ready to sweat at the park the whole next day, but the other adults in our party did and I didn't hear any complaints. Our room also had a fridge and microwave. I did miss the little soap bars that usually are around. The wall dispensers probably get the job done (our soap was empty, but there was shampoo in the shower), but it would be nice to see what soap you're using. For a quick overnight on your way to or from Cedar Point, I'd recommend the South Shore Inn. read more

We were looking for a place close to Cedar Point with a pool that didn't break the bank. This was great and hit all the marks where needed. The lobby is really nice and updated. The rooms could use a bit more work, but they were larger than expected and comfortable for us. The pool area was nice and we had fun. The staff was super friendly. Weird issue with the phone being unplugged when we got there. Only noticed when we called down to ask about pool towels. The breakfast was just so - so. Limited protein options (only had yogurt), but great for kids who can eat lots of carbs and sugar. We would for sure book a room here again. Last year we stayed here for holloweekends then came here for a different event that took place in Norwalk Ohio when we got into our first room there was so many flies that we couldn't even stay in there we switched rooms and you will see by the pictures how disgusting this place was we try to leave the hotel to go to a different hotel but the event that we stayed at was so big and everything was sold out in the area we were forced to stay here we had to go to the local store and buy sheets just to put over the bed because it was so disgusting in here there was people outside of the rooms to 3 o'clock partying people in the pool which says it's closed at midnight but they don't do anything about the rules and if you ask The breakfast isn't all that good I highly recommend going somewhere else it's not worth the money. read more

Broke college kids always have to do a trip to Cedar Point. It's some sort of college coming of age tradition I guess... right? Well, my friends and I decided to do it and to do it as cheap as possible. Granted, I wasn't the one who found this hotel, but the way my friend described it, I was horrified of what we would find when we got there. We drove down on Friday evening and checked in late Friday night. There were no problems and Dawnisha, who worked the front desk, was very accommodating. We received our room keys and went upstairs expecting roaches, mice, and at least a few questionable stains on the sheets. We walked in and we were pleasantly surprised. What greeted us was a clean room, two beds, six pillows... all in all... a standard hotel room (albeit with a strange scent, but we survived). Also, to be clear... no roaches. No mice. And only a couple of questionable stains. We had ordered a rollaway bed, but it wasn't in the room. We called the front desk and Dawnisha said she would get it to us right away. We did have to help her bring one upstairs though, since all of them on the second floor were taken. As the only guy on the trip, I was assigned the rollaway and it was uncomfortable as hell, but at the price we paid for two nights, I really didn't care. All in all, a decent hotel for a great price. Sure, it's not 5 star, but if you're looking for a hotel on a budget, you probably can't do any better. It's located about 2 miles away from the park, about as close as you can get without actually staying in the Cedar Point "resorts." A great place to crash after a long day of screaming your head off on awesome coasters. read more

Stayed here for the third time for our annual Cedar Point trip. We slept 6 people comfortably in the two room suite. It had a foldout sofa sleeper, two beds and a moveable two seated couch type of furniture. It was a little less than $190. Don't let the outdated sign fool you because the rooms are clean and modern with flat screens. read more

This was exactly what we were looking for!! Took a large group of teenagers to cedar point and needed a place to crash. The staff worked with me to get the rooms together and on the inside of the building. They had pizza to order and it was ready for us when we got back from the park. They even made a specialty pizza for a student who had allergies!!! Amazingly impressive The rooms were very clean, beds were great (I like mine a little firm), the bathrooms looked like they had been updated recently. Restaurant was clean. Pizza was GREAT! We didn't get in till 1am so I don't know how noisy it was, we had rooms right above the bar and could hear people talking occasionally but nothing disturbing. We WILL be using this place for ALL out cedar point trips and I will be recommending it to any group (or family) heading to cedar point. read more

This place was... OK. Yes the price is cheap for comparable hotels in the area. It's a bit off the strip, and a little bit from Cedar Point, but still a quick easy drive. The thing is though... is yes it's a motel, with outside doors... but the sound proofing is next to non existent! Unfortunately it seemed that we came on the same evening as a prom or some other teenage party night, as one side of the place was full of rowdy kids (and I'm not some crotchety old person I'm 28 so that's saying something) They were playing music from their cars and being overall loud and annoying. We even had the room on the far side tucked in a corner, and it was still unbearably loud. We did call the front desk who must have told them to turn it down as they did... a tiny bit.... The rooms were standard, had a mini fridge, and the beds comfortable. Just the sound throughout the night was a bit much even for the cheap price. Again it is a great price in the area and a decent location, just ask for a room on the outside and you might be better off where you're away from the parking lot/courtyard noise. read more

Great stay. Nice clean rooms. Recently renovated. AC very cold. Pool has two slides and hot tub. It can get crowded at night, but still good. Free breakfast is classic continental (bagel, toast, yogurt, donuts, mini muffins, OJ, coffee, apple juice, fruit, and waffle maker). Wait on waffle maker can be long to non-existent. I rented 2 rooms June 30th, 2021 at this location to take 4 teenagers to Cedar Point. It was a great location for a great price. The rooms are a tad older looking but super clean and very well maintained. Everything was clean and working. The staff was really great and kind. My daughter had left her wallet there and it was returned to us with EVERYTHING in it. We had a great time here for an extended weekend. The staff is super friendly (I'm not just saying that - they really were super friendly! They even left the pool open for an extra hour on Sunday night for us adults - otherwise the pool and spa was permanently populated with kids). Breakfast was decent but I get that Covid makes a breakfast bar pretty hard to do. Rooms were clean and nice. My family and I were spending one night here so that we could just wake up and head right over to Cedar Point (which is only a few minutes away). When we walked into our room we were expecting the worst but thankfully were wrong. The room had two double beds and six pillows all of which were pretty comfortable. The decor was a bit outdated, it reminded me of my grandmas old house. The bathroom was rather on the small side with a shower that I would not recommend to anyone over 5'5 (It does have good water pressure though!). There is a pool here with a small water slide for the kids and it seemed clean enough. There is only one major issue with this place and that is that the walls are paper thin! We could hear everyone up at the crack of dawn! Overall it's good for a one night trip but not a long vacation. read more

Definitely not the nicest hotel that I've stayed in, however we booked the room as a place to stay while we were at Cedar Point for the weekend. The beds were comfortable! And the linens were clean. My only complaint was that we were in the other building, not the actual hotel and our drapery didn't close all the way, which meant that you could see straight into our room. We fixed it by putting our bags against it to keep it shut and our belongings out of view- not a big deal. All in all, a pretty good place to stay for the price. Continental breakfast was very fresh too. Not stale like most places. read more

I had high hopes for South Shore Inn based on the reviews and photos online. It definitely seemed to be the best option near Cedar Point (the cheaper places looked like venues out of a horror film or, on the opposite end of the spectrum, were $400 a night). We arrived fairly late at night, around 10:00p.m. and were pleased with the cute exterior and had no trouble parking. The lobby was nice and the front desk staff were friendly. I had called ahead and requested a fridge/microwave in my room and was assured that both were in the room. The girl who checked us in told me that the room we have was one of the nicest, and we would like it a lot. We walked across the parking lot to the building where our room was and I almost choked on the cigarette smell coming out of the carpet in the hallway (I was under the impression all rooms were non-smoking, but I guess only suites are non-smoking). The lock on the outside door was broken as was the vending machine directly inside the entrance. The hallway had four room doors and we found ours easily. The room was something out of a 70's sitcom. Giant box TV and tacky wallpaper/bedding included. I wasn't expecting luxury, but thought I was getting much more than what the room was. The lamps did not work, there was a fridge, but no microwave and the bed was uncomfortable. There were cars parked 1 foot from the window with a streetlamp over it. Despite the shabbiness and lamps in need of repair, for the most part, the room was very clean, but the carpet was a dark green plush, so it was hard to tell. The bedspread had some minor stains, but nothing that alarmed me. The bathroom was, like everything else, outdated, but VERY VERY clean, which I appreciated. There were also plenty of towels and washcloths. It was hard to regulate the temperature and I did not sleep well. There was no coffee in the room, so we went to get coffee from the lobby before checking out, but it was terrible and undrinkable. The person who was checking us out did not speak any English at all, so I just gave her the keys and hoped that was all they needed from me. I am all for supporting local/family owned businesses like the South Shore Inn, but until they remodel, repair things and get rid of the smoky smell, I will not be returning. read more

My family & I wanted to get away for the weekend & ended up staying Saturday to Sunday after we had some fun up in PIB. VERY clean place! The pool was beautiful, only complaint was that the hot tub was a bit to hot but other than that everything else was great. The pool is also open until midnight which was fun for us because we are night owls!! Our stay was excellent & the breakfast in the morning had a variety of choices! Check out was at noon which gave us plenty of time after breakfast to swim in the pool because it opened @9am. We definitely would come back again & recommend staying here because of how great it was! read more

Not a bad place to stay. Like some of the reviews have mentioned, the decor could use an update. Our room was clean, comfortable and not expensive. They have a pool and a jacuzzi that they will leave open late for you if you ask. The staff is friendly. It's a great place to stay if you only need it for a night or two. I wouldn't spend more then that. Mostly because the room lacks the "basic" things that most rooms come with, like a microwave and a mini fridge. read more

On our vacation we wanted to go see Lake Erie. We booked at this hotel based on price. I did put in the reservation form that I am disabled and not able to walk far. We were given a room on the ground floor. which was perfect. I asked if the room has an accessible shower. I was TARTLY told that because this is an older hotel they did not have to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). It would have been nice to know before we left so we could make other arrangements. Second, we asked for the nearest parks to visit Lake Erie. They had no idea. After doing an online search they found a list of parks. The one they recommended was exactly what we were looking for. We had a nice time and could say we put our feet in Lake Erie. If a family was looking for an inexpensive hotel to stay at this would be a good place. The room was clean, the house keeping staff helpful. The outdoor pool has a a slide and is very clean. If you need handicapped rooms then check other hotels. read more

Really close and convenient to Cedar Point. We don't have kids and never went to the pool so I can't comment on that, but if you're not interested in the pool I recommend an inside room. We got one by chance and it seemed a lot quieter than the outside rooms. Beds were OK. The only thing left when I booked was a two double bed room. My husband and I ended up sleeping in separate beds. Sad. Shower was a little weird because the shower head seemed to placed for someone 5' or shorter. However, we were only there for less than 9 hrs, so for the amount of time we were there for much needed sleep, it was a great little motel. Definitely older and a little outdated, but it was super clean, and the staff was very friendly. I originally tried to book on hotels.com but had a lot of trouble, so I went to the hotel website and booked the room for only $5 more. Added bonus, this motel has a bar/restaurant right on property. We went downstairs and grabbed a quick bite to eat and a glass of wine. Much needed after a long day at the amusement park. I needed to make an ice pack for my leg and one of the members of the bar staff helped me by getting me a ziplock bag. It's the little things that are so nice. I would definitely recommend for a short stay if you are looking for budget friendly and close to the park. read more

We pulled in and there was groups of people smoking and hanging around, seemingly up to no good. We walked into the front area and were surprised with a very modern and nice welcoming. The outside of this motel looks very run down and could use a good facelift, but the inside of the rooms are very nice and very clean. The staff is also very nice and helpful, and they serve a wonderful breakfast. The motel also has an extremely nice pool (with 2 water slides), but there was one incident that was quite funny. A child pooped in the pool and the staff was notified, and they took care of it very appropriately, They closed the pool overnight and shocked it to kill any germs. Overall I would recommend this hotel for maybe a two to three nights stay it is very comfortable and reasonable for the price. read more

A perfect example of a potential two star hotel which performs at a five level. Sure, it is dated but they make up for that in cleanliness and service. The front desk service was outstanding and made your patronage feel appreciated. Check in and check out was a breeze as they were staffed to take on a rush of people. Right off of the Cedar Point entrance and central to the other attractions. Walking distance to several restaurants and lake front. Value priced and the bottled water at check in was a nice touch. Taking in consideration the price, and other options in the area that are more expensive, this isn't a bad place to stay if you are visiting Cedar Point. We were in a two room suite, it is not huge, it is not incredibly modern, but it is clean and sufficient. You can shut the door between the two rooms. We had two adults and 4 children. The breakfast is OK, when we stayed they offered DIY belgian waffles, cereal, toast, OJ and coffee. The pool is nice, but although it is "heated", when we arrived it didn't seem incredibly warm. The jacuzzi was also just warm, not hot. That still did not stop our kids from enjoying both. So- for the price, I believe it's a good place to stay and I'd return with my family. read more

If this had a 0 star I would pick that. This place is disgusting and is NOT renovated at all. The front office staff is EXTREMELY unprofessional. When we checked in there was a problem with another customer and the office staff handled it terribly. My children heard the front office staff cursing, yelling and making a HUGE scene to the poor customers. I WILL NOT ever recommend this place.
