It seems that a large majority are managed by a few vacation rental management companies, so could explain why some had different experiences than others. As some other reviewers stated, yes the rooms are small.. but it's a historic hotel. If you've ever stayed anywhere historic, this is pretty common. Nothing unusual. The room was clean and pleasant. Due to it being a holiday, I'm sure the rate was a bit higher because this hotel is centrally located. This is the upside, you can walk to everything from the hotel. Parking was included and plentiful, and the self-check in/out was smooth. As some have noted, the instructions come by email so make sure you watch for that. Overall I have nothing bad to say about it- worked out great for us for what we wanted.

Super close to the Marblehead Lighthouse. They have many outdoor sitting and eating areas and a fire pit for your use. We walked over to the water and found lots of fossils embedded in the limestone which was so fun. Did have a nasty neighbor, Mr. Dorko, (I identified him through social media and property tax info) come over and yell at us about property lines while my daughter was playing in the water. He also used a bright spotlight to shine on my adult daughter while she was sitting by the water around dusk on another evening. Other than the a**hole neighbor, very highly recommended! They went out of their way to make our stay pleasant, they even changed their own plans as well! As for the house itself, it is something out of a story book! Suzee is an exceptional designer, and the entire house feels lively and comfortable. You truly feel at home. You get the entire upstairs which includes a massive bedroom, a TV room, and a private bathroom. No one bothers you or even checks up on you. You are given the house key, so you are free to come and go as you please. With being only 1 mile from the lake (great for sunsets!), and just minutes from the great local shops and restaurants in Sandusky, OH, the Cottage Rose is the place to stay! (Especially at only $85 a night!).

We didn't see many people of various ethnicities and races other than white. Enjoyed walking on docks, visiting shops, shuffle board, Hawaiian ices, lunch at The Hotel, and walking all around. The experience is one that I've come to cherish. However, there are several drawbacks I would 100% recommend renting a cottage instead of staying at Hotel Lakeside (which is the reason for such the mediocre review). The rooms, while quaint, were very dirty in the corners and I wouldn't recommend looking under the bed unless you're a dust bunny aficionado. We were told that we were going to get a kitchenette which we did not receive (and apparently there isn't one in the entire hotel). My room was nice enough (besides for the dust), but my grandparents' room's air conditioning was not working and the room had a musty odor. Thankfully they were able to get the bridal suite on the second floor but even then, the bathroom was so small we were worried they would fall and hurt themselves. In terms of food, you don't really have many options. Besides for the hotel's restaurant, there are some coffee shops that aren't open for dinner, sloopy's and the New Mexican restaurant. The hotel's food is delicious but because there are only a few items on the menu, they can get old rather quickly. Sloopy's is nice for a few meals but eating that much unhealthy food will not make your stomach very happy. This is the other reason I recommend getting a cottage. Just so you could make your own home cooked meals instead of relying on eating out. Lastly, the porch. This is the most redeeming quality to the hotel. Looking out over the lake in the covered porch with everyone quietly reading or on their phones is incredibly peaceful and rejuvenating. In the end, I would recommend coming to Lakeside 100%. However, stay at the hotel at your own risk and definitely not for more than four days.

We booked last minute because of a basketball tournament and there weren't many options available. The hotel had great reviews, so we decided to give it a try. To be fair, the rooms were relatively clean, and you can tell they've tried to update an older motel. The front desk staff was very friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. The complimentary breakfast was simple but well done, and the older ladies running it were hardworking, welcoming, and kept everything stocked. The pool & hot tub were great. Almost no one uses it during the day. That said, for a room that cost nearly 300 a night, I expected more. The rooms are very small, the air conditioner was extremely loud, and there was a noticeable gap under the door that could easily let bugs or other critters inside. The biggest issue was that some of the posted rules didn't seem to be enforced. The pool was supposed to close at 11 p.m., but there was still quite a bit of activity afterward. There is also a picnic area where another sports team gathered with a large Bluetooth speaker playing music late into the night, making it difficult to relax and sleep. Overall, it's a decent place if you need a convenient location near Cedar Point, but be prepared to pay premium prices during peak times for accommodations that are fairly basic. Pro tip: Book directly with the hotel instead of using Hotels.com or similar sites. The direct rates were significantly lower than what the third-party booking sites were charging.
