The Miller's Table

The Miller's Table

A wonderful fancy dinner atmosphere…read more This was my first time, so I do not have any frame of reference regarding the history of the resort and restaurant. Visited in the shoulder season. The host and servers were quite friendly, but they were objectively understaffed during our visit. Regardless, they seemed to handle the guests well and didn't keep us waiting too long. The bread and butter prior to the meal was excellent. I also enjoyed the Charcuterie and the French Onion Soup. For my meal I ordered the Almond Crusted Walleye figuring that some fresh local fish would be a strong choice. Unfortunately, the dish was merely whelming and a bit disappointing considering my high expectations. Honestly, I thought the meal started out great and gradually slid as we went. We also added a glass of wine and a cocktail. This is not a cheap meal. I would certainly give them another whirl, but considering the price and location, it will likely have to wait a couple years before we get another go around.

A Wilderness-Inspired Dining Gem at Sawmill Creek…read more Tucked inside the newly revamped Sawmill Creek Resort, The Miller's Table is a hidden treasure that blends lodge-style ambiance with refined comfort food--and it completely impressed us during our Easter weekend visit! For those who remember Huron's beloved Salmon Run Restaurant, this new chapter pays homage to that rustic, wildlife-inspired charm. Think Bass Pro Shop vibes meets modern Midwest dining, complete with warm wood finishes and nods to the natural surroundings. I ordered a local Ohio Blonde Ale and the bolognese, and let me tell you--it was melt-in-your-mouth amazing. Every bite was rich, flavorful, and comforting. The staff were genuinely kind, attentive, and made our family dinner feel extra special. The Miller's Table isn't just a resort restaurant--it's a destination on its own. Whether you're staying at the lodge, golfing nearby, or just exploring the area, make this a must-stop for dinner. Rustic. Refined. Ridiculously good.

We arrived around 1:30 PM and were pleasantly surprised that our room was already ready -- such a relief after traveling, especially with kids. However, the new luggage carts are definitely a downgrade. They barely hold anything, and if you have more than just a couple of bags, it turns into a hassle. Really hoping they switch back to the old style. The waterpark itself is always a blast, but I do wish the hours were longer. Closing at 8 PM on weeknights feels early when you're on vacation and trying to fit everything in. Same for the sweet treat shop -- we felt rushed trying to get from the waterpark to the room, get dressed, and then make it down to the arcade and grab treats all within about 45 minutes. We chose the Stay & Play package mainly for the arcade credit ($100 each night), but we didn't realize that when you use the package credits, the games don't give you tickets. That was disappointing, especially with kids who love winning prizes. On the positive side, the kids absolutely loved the Build-a-Bear experience. It was pricey at about $100 for two bears, but it is vacation, and they had so much fun that it was worth it. I also really liked the new charging wristbands -- super convenient and nice not having to carry a card around all day. As for comfort, the waterpark air could've been warmer. I remember it feeling much more comfortable in past visits, but this time I felt cold almost the whole time. The hallways were especially chilly. Food-wise, the Pizza Pub was fantastic. We had it delivered right to our room, and both the pizza and the chicken chunks were delicious -- honestly one of our favorite meals of the trip. Overall, even with a few hiccups, we had a fun stay and would visit again. Kalahari still delivers a great family getaway, just with a few things I hope they adjust back to how they used to be.

We contacted resort staff three separate times with serious concerns during our stay and saw no action taken--only empty apologies. That lack of response was extremely frustrating and made it feel like guest experience was not a priority. Going back to the room for a break didn't help. Our room faced a solid wall, did not have a fireplace as advertised, and we dealt with constant loud door slamming and wall pounding from nearby cleaning staff. It was not relaxing and made it difficult to rest. The conditions in the waterpark were also unacceptable. The lines for the water slides smelled strongly of urine, as if people were urinating while standing in line, which was extremely unpleasant and unhygienic. The wave pool was especially concerning. Chunks of concrete were breaking off the bottom of the pool, and I cut my foot on one of these pieces, about the size of a penny. There was concrete grit throughout the water, which was very unsafe - I gave chunks to the staff to emphasize my concerns. On top of all of this, everything was freezing cold. The wave pool water was freezing, the slide water was freezing, and the hot tubs were not hot at all despite hour-long wait lines with 40+ people. Even the indoor temperature felt cold. For the cost of this stay, none of this was acceptable. Overall, this experience was not worth what we paid and fell far below expectations.

At…read morecheck-in, I explicitly requested a quiet room and was instead placed next to the noisiest common area of the hotel, with children screaming and adults partying late into the night -- an issue clearly reflected in many other reviews. What happened next is far more troubling. Despite having a Do Not Disturb sign on our door for our entire stay, housekeeping entered our room while we were not present and set our alarm clock to go off at 6:00 a.m. We never used or set the alarm at any point. This was not an isolated incident. The exact same thing happened to at least two other guests we spoke with, each of whom also had Do Not Disturb signs displayed and whose alarm clocks went off at exactly 6:00 a.m. the same morning. After being woken up at 6:00 a.m., a male housekeeper opened our door again at 8:00 a.m., waking us a second time -- three hours before checkout. Thankfully, I was in the room, as my 14-year-old daughter was asleep. I immediately reported this to the front desk and was casually told it was a "mistake." Entering an occupied guest room multiple times with a Do Not Disturb sign displayed is not a mistake -- it is a serious breach of privacy and guest safety. To make matters worse, housekeeping carts and equipment were loudly pushed through the halls throughout the day and evening, making rest nearly impossible. The hotel also does not provide basic cable, meaning channels like NBC and ESPN were unavailable -- disappointing during a major national event like the Olympics. I made multiple attempts to contact the hotel's manager, Matthew Watson, and received no response whatsoever. This property shows little respect for guest privacy, safety, or basic comfort. If you value a quiet stay or personal security, I strongly recommend staying elsewhere.

The Mediterranean station had these simple but perfect bite-sized options all stacked into a tower, and the Asian fusion corner included a visiting sushi chef with his assistants. No limit of this stuff, wow! Our coordinator and I offer kudos to Beth and the teamwork she brings to the full-service, no work to the client, efficiency.
