No way is the food award winning...because they can't keep up with any orders! And they scam you by making you pay for your pizza BEFORE you get it. Even at 2 hours, our $20 pizza never came out! So manager, you owe me $20 plus tax! Saturday night was a disaster! Came to see my friend's band. The beer is fine. The music was amazing. But these people had 1 high school kid making (bad) pizza on a busy Saturday night! How insulting to your guests. Everyone waited over 2 to get a small pizza. For the manager: STOP offering a food menu if you cannot get the food out in 20 mins max. This was the 2nd time going here - both times the food was either awful and delayed. So if you're coming here - eat some where else before. Also, they don't have enough seating or tables. This place is a joke. It's a bummer because it has so much potential. I stayed one night in the shabby Motel 6 just off I-25 in Bernalillo on my return trip to Denver from the Tucson area, and decided to have one beer in each of the three brewpubs within a couple of miles of the motel - Kaktus, Bosque, and Turtle Mountain. This super cute little brewery is tucked away on a hard to find (if you've never been to the area before) side street. It was pretty full on an early Friday evening. I sat inside, as the New Mexico July heat is a bit much for me. If it had been a few degrees less hot, I would have sat on the gorgeous patio. I ordered a beer from the very nice bartender, and sat and looked at their menu. Mostly pizza, which isn't my favorite, but they had some interesting toppings - spicy elk sausage, cilantro duck sausage - you don't see those everywhere. I had been nursing my beer for a few minutes when I heard a flamenco band start playing on the patio, popped my head outside and they had flamenco dancing. A very cool entertainment choice. The brewery's logo is Kokopeli stepping in a cactus and I really wanted a t-shirt, but they were sold out of sizes larger than medium and I'm a 2XL. Good spot. First time here. Strange that I've never heard of this "hidden" gem. Actually when I arrived (after some wrong turns and considerable googling) I was surprised to find this brewery on a back road and not in a strip mall or large commercial area. But once you are on the right trail (South Hills Rd) it isn't hard to find. There's a large sign our front and two parking lots. One front & one back. Plus, as things got busy there are cars parked along S. Hills Road. Yes, it gets busy. Very busy. Especially on a hot Sunday afternoon with live music, dancing, good beer and pizza. Friendly folks, even though they are super busy. SUPER BUSY. I met a friendly woman in line while I waited to order my drink & nachos. Her name was "Rose". Think she may have been part of the extra-friendly staff at Kaktus Brewing? Did I have a good time? Would I go back? Yes. As a location goes it is kind of interesting a bit hole in the wall but that adds to the character. The appetizers were good and although we did not have any, the pizza looked delicious! The service was great! As for the beer, very innocuous and bland. We tried the Octoberfest which had no body or flavor to it. We also tried the red ale which I would say had decent flavor and body but not a standout by any means. The IPA we tasted was not appealing and the berry cider was all Apple with no berry flavor. I would not return here because a brewery is all about the beer to me. read more

This brewery has a great atmosphere. They have a great variety of scheduled music events for the week. The food is very good, a little pricey but their ingredients are locally sourced which makes it taste delicious. The service is good but the accuracy of the order depends on who is working. Some workers get the order correct and some workers forget or make assumptions for your order. My recommendation is to have them repeat your order back so that everything is accurate. Overall this place has great beer, good mixed drinks, tasty food, enjoyable entertainment and a comfortable environment. read more

This is my ABQ Beer Passport review for Kaktus Brewing. After squishing through the mud in the parking lot to get there (fresh rain), and figuring out where the place was (behind someone's home, hidden for a reason?) we got no welcome from the 2 female servers. Menu is pizza & salad, that's it. Don't go by the 5+ year old review photos. Dinner time on a Wednesday had about 10 local 70+ barflies, one family with kids, and 2 cats. All tables and chairs were mismatched, uneven, and dirty. I understand the "order at the counter" concept but it was apparent that we were not regulars. I've reviewed over a hundred breweries and this is honestly the first time I felt like a city folk in Deliverance. I don't expect world class table service but I was so put off from the vibe that we bailed without trying anything (first time ever)! I hate judging a book by its cover, but if I do try their self-proclaimed great beer, it will be at a festival and not their world headquarters. If you're looking for an actual brewery and not a restaurant that serves beer, there's nothing in Bernalillo for you! read more

An amazing hole in the wall between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. The pizzas (Elk and Duck sausage based) were incredibly delicious accompanied by thirst quenching ales and cider. And the live blues music from Joe Daddy and Hoodoo Jeff kept the crowd tapping, dancing and smiling. read more

OK, this place looks sketch as hell. Work through it I did. Once you get inside it's friendly and inclusive and lots of fun. To top it off the food was excellent. We're not regular beer drinkers so I can't comment on their beer. But, they did have a canned gluten-free beer which I enjoyed, wonderful specialty tequila and craft Coca-Cola, which was excellent. If you told me I'd be going to a live-music, great-beer, amaaaazing-pizza spot in the back of a campground/trailer area, that is anything but commercialized, I'd think you'd be kidding me. However, that is exactly the case here. I almost don't even want to write this review as I wouldn't want too many people to discover it and ruin the unique vibes that make this place so special ;) But of course I want to share! I have to say we had an amazing time. We hung out with some locals who gave us great recommendations on beer. Had likely the best pizza of my life - the chicken and waffles as well as the spicy one (I can't remember the name!) were simply to die for. Also they were huge too! Very good pizza and a good selection of.Beer. My preference is for malty rather than hoppy beers and their dunkle, porter and stout are perfect. The hotdog appetizer was not goodness but the fresh salad was perfection. Very funky little place off the beaten path with a ton of regulars and very good service. Go to a bar in a trailer court they said, it'll be fun they said, THEY were right! The patio area is filled with outside furniture, think wicker chairs, mixed with grandma's bedside table, mixed with picnic tables, mixed with the most random seating, and it all work's perfect! Live music on the weekend is fantastic! We had pizza and it was so good! Beer list is pretty good! I have zero complaints, other than, it's not closer to my house! The definition of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. You'd never see it by driving by. You turn onto a dirt road with potholes into what almost looks like a shantytown. Parking is in unmarked spots in the dirt parking next to the building. You walk into the brewery, then take an immediate left into the restaurant. From there is attached patio seating with a small stage for live events. Our group got an assortment of pizzas. The 7" pizza came with a balsamic vinaigrette salad, though they forgot the dressing on both our salads. I ordered the wild spicy elk pizza, which came with red onion, mozzarella, mushroom, and a truffle oil drizzle. I asked twice for the truffle oil to not be added to mine, but it came with it anyway. The elk was elk link sausage cut into pieces about triple the thickness of standard pepperoni. The pizza wasn't anything exciting. 3/5. I also tried a slice apiece of: - Pua'a (a Hawaiian, but with pulled pork, hoisin and marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pineapple): Delicious and an interesting sauce flavor profile. Definitely a 5/5. - Quacker (duck sausage, bell peppers, spinach, and mozzarella): I didn't love this one. It seemed to be lacking something. Instead of the breast they usually use, they used cut sausage links this time. 2.5/5; I would not get this one again, but duck on pizza is interesting. - Red Pumpkin (pumpkin squash, goat cheese, marinara, pine nuts, and red chili drizzle). Delicious! I'd get this one again for sure. I never thought of squash, goat cheese, or pine nuts on a pizza, but it works very well. 5/5. I got an apple cider, which was smooth and sweet. It wasn't overly sweet or too sharp, which some breweries fall into. Overall, an interesting experience. Two pizzas were hits with me, while I'd pass on the other two again. The service was fine; they don't seem to focus on the details (providing salad dressing, having to ask for silverware, or making requested modifications), so diners will likely need to be more assertive than I was in getting service. read more

Do not go by the looks of the outside!!! They have some damn good food and craft beer. They also carry Tumbleroot distillery products for mixed drinks. The craft pizzas are amazing! We got the larger Caprese after much debate and following a good warm pretzel we were full after a half pizza. Next time we are going to do the elk meat pizza. If your staying at the KOA there is a walking gate from there. A nice back game area out back and a stage with seating in front. Gas heaters for when it's chilly. Live music on certain nights and a very friendly staff. Looks like a local hangout too which is what we look for when traveling. read more

Well interesting visit. We have been here a few times and it's always a mixed bag for us. Good food and slow service and prices we dont feel meet the delivery. First it's a local joint which we always root for but it's just not there. Rum and coke 10 bucks not a Bacardi' and coke, 11:50 for a house margarita, and I can go on and on. Lets sum it up l, some pretty good music but dirt floors uncomfortable dirty seating and we live in Algodones so don't start. Pizzas the size of 4", cooks that don't use their beeper system, bartenders who can't figure out how to get the glass out of the shaker all in the picturesque trailer courts of Bernalillo no offense but come on get over your prices with zero service.
