Selection of wonderful teas and just love the tea pot and cup!
Alison C.

Atmosphere, unique menu, and fresh delicious food! This is a must. Polish, French, Australian and American menu. The latkes, the Kaisy - Australian pancakes with homemade apple Sauce and raspberry compote to die for!! Wonderful selection of teas and coffee. Sit and relax and enjoy your meal! Owner introduces you to his family history and creation of the menu. Will be back!

Kaisserschmarrn with homemade whipped crème (delicious) and strawberry compote

This is our go-to breakfast/lunch spot when we have some time to sit back, relax, and enjoy a wonderfully cooked meal and delightful ambiance. My family and I have enjoyed every meal we've had here -- everything from the kaisserschmarrn to the ratatouille to the sausages. And don't forget the latkes and delicious desserts! The music adds a wonderful ambiance, and I sometimes close my eyes and imagine that I'm back in Europe enjoying a fantastic meal and cappuccino at a cafe. Seriously, give this place a try if you're looking for a unique experience and are tired of the chain restaurants or mediocre meals. The staff (especially the owner) take so much pride in making sure your meal and experience are stellar -- including inviting first-timers into the vault to learn about the family history and recipes on the menu. Can't wait to come back again soon!

What a delightful and delicious dining experience! We just savored every bit of our appetizers, soup, entrees, desserts, and drinks! When we first arrived, we were instantly charmed by the gracious proprietor, Thierri. who warmly welcomed us. He first led us into the bank vault where we learned about his fascinating, family history and his amazing Aunt Ruth that inspired so many offerings in their combination of European (Austrian, French and Polish) inspired dishes. We were pleasantly surprised to realize it was the soft opening of their dinner menu. We so enjoyed the setting in the beautifully restored old Bank building and the wonderful service and hospitality, as well as their exquisite cuisine. The vichyssoise was like heaven as was the onion and leak tart. Make sure not to skip one of the mouth watering Austrian Kaiserschmarnn desserts. Can't wait to come back for breakfast and lunch!

The food, service and ambiance are wonderful. In a charming bank with lots of delicate touches.

Skiers breakfast

This is a fun place for brunch or lunch. The specialty is kaiserschmern which is an Austrian specialty. Your coffee or tea is served in a nice pink teaser. The restaurant is the old town bank. I had the skiers schmern which was really good!

A real local gem with an unlocked bank vault. Old world hearty breakfast and lunch that sounds simple but is a step above

Wonderful dining experience! I first learned of this place when they won a James Beard Award in…read more2024, but wasn't able to eat here until yesterday. Excellent food, both in taste and visual presentation (bravo chef, and thank you for the meet & greet). Excellent service, thank you Shawna for being so kind, explaining the menu, and making us feel warm and special. Bread/water guy (sorry didn't catch your name) was also always on it refilling water, and offering bread without being asked. Alex, also gets a shout out for the service and attention! All the variety of breads and butter (esp the ramp/onion butter) were delicious, chicken/truffle tortellini app, crab salad, lamb entree, dover sole entree, pear/yuzu dessert, strawberry cake were my favorites. Thank you also for the birthday treat :) we will be back again!

Hard to find an elegant restaurant like this anymore where the food and ambiance are superb. Being a bit "old-school" about fancy restaurants, I like getting dressed up and going to a place that feels special. This is the place. Not only is the food delicious, but expertly presented. An amazing bread basket that I had to refrain from eating too much as I knew my dinner would be rich and filling. Also, the cocktails are superb. Even though many restaurants now serve specialty cocktails, they don't always live up to expectations. Here at Bas Rouge they are mixed beautifully. One should be aware that, although I believe you can order al a carte, it's mainly a three/four or seven course menu. NOTE: I was extremely dismayed to see that they had foie gras on the menu. Especially seeing that this restaurant is named after I believe the owner's breed of dog that he loves, I believe foie gras, as many people do, is animal cruelty to produce. They also serve veal that again, is usually from animals confined to crates that stunt their growth. Sorry for the bummer ending, just stating what I believe is factual.

Before our flight home, we came here with a reservation so we could grab a meal before heading to…read morethe airport. When we arrived, we were seated right away, but it seemed like there were very few staff working--possibly only one waiter. It took about 10 minutes before we finally had to flag him down just to place our order. The food then took around 25-30 minutes to come out, which felt very long since we were on a tight schedule for our flight. When the food finally arrived, I ordered the macaroni and cheese, and unfortunately it was the worst mac and cheese I've ever had. I don't want to be mean, but it was very bland and really needed salt. My sister surprisingly liked it, but it just wasn't for me at all. The rest of my family did enjoy their meals, and I thought the fries were decent, just lightly seasoned. My mom especially liked the grilled cheese. The waiter himself was nice and kept our drinks refilled, so I don't think the long wait was entirely his fault. The restaurant is very cute inside with cozy, old-style vibes and festive Christmas decorations, which I really liked. However, between the long wait times, the limited menu, and my disappointing mac and cheese, I wouldn't recommend that dish. Overall, it's a charming place, but the service was too slow for us--especially when trying to catch a flight.
