The Midway Cafe is a hidden gem. It has become one of our favorite places to go for breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The staff including the owner are friendly and personable. The service is excellent and the food is wonderful. The portions are large and for the size of the meals, the prices are very reasonable. My friend is a vegetarian, and we can always find something to satisfy her taste and my craving for meat. The menu has a large number of options to choose from, plus daily specials. Generally, the chef and the folks in the back get the food out fairly quickly, a challenge given the variety offered. The seating and layout are comfortable and even when it is busy it is easy to carry on a conversation. This is one of the main reasons this is our favorite go to place for a relaxing meal. read more

Solidly mediocre. Friendly service but they can certainly use the help around here. The food is not going to blow you away but it works for a simple meal. I am not going to dock them points for messing up my order (a gyro with no onions but yet I got the onions). The prices are reasonable and the menu options are extensive enough to find something no matter the taste. Great breakfast experience with a few items you don't see on the menus around here. First of all, the grits are actually pretty darn good! As a toast choice, you can get pumpernickel! Hurray. If like to get some veggies in for your breakfast choice, you have a couple options which is nice. Recently I tried the Midway omelette which includes avocado, broccoli, two cheeses and more. The Menemen made of scrambled eggs cooked with a sauce of tomatoes, green peppers, and spices like red pepper flakes. Very tasty! Seat yourself and the staff will find you. The desk clerk at our hotel recommended Midway. We would not have found it otherwise and likely not visited were it not for his recommendation. Midway was very comfortable, clean, and pleasant. The food other diners had, especially breakfast items, looked terrific. We both had grilled turkey sandwiches and they were great. Amanda was super friendly and checked on us regularly and we had a light meal that lasted us throughout the day. When we revisit Rehoboth, we plan to go back and hope to see Amanda again. Have been for breakfast a few times and dinner once. Food is excellent with friendly service. Do yourself a favor give them a visit.

My wife and I had a terrific breakfast here. She had eggs benedict and I had the florentine omelet. Both were outstanding. I had requested grilled pumpernickel, which was provided at no extra charge. Service was cheerful and efficient, with coffee refills coming at just the right times. I would highly recommend this place. read more

What a disappointing experience! The food was fair, at best. My husband's sausage gravy was lukewarm so we're hoping he doesn't get sick! I ordered a scrapple and egg sandwich on white bread, no cheese, smashed and crispy scrapple with mayo. At first I got an egg sandwich with cheese (no mayo) on toast. Sent back for scrapple. After waiting a good bit, the sandwich came back with scrapple barely cooked. The toast was super soggy by that point. I ended up asking for bacon (which was greasy and way overdone) and just ate the eggs without the bread. It was a terrible experience and we won't be back. read more

Eggs and hash browns barely cooked, like the potatoes were almost raw. The sausage was way overcooked.

On Friday evening, the Mrs. and I had dinner at the Midway Cafe. Our last visit was about four months ago. The place was not crowded and it seemed that it was mostly locals. After we sat, the waitress (very pleasant and friendly) took our orders. We ordered the specials -- Steak and Shrimp for the Mrs. and I had the Smothered Steak (Provolone, peppers, onions and mushrooms). Both of us had the mashed potatoes for the sides. Overall, the food was good but the homemade Chicken Noodle soup was OUTSTANDING! In fact, if we had known it was so good, we would have ordered a couple of bowls for dinner -- that is how good it was. read more

A week ago we drove by Midway Plaza and noticed the old restaurant that had been slowly fading away due to the numerous reports of erratic and eccentric abuse was out; nothing Preshy here anymore... Granted some found the experience charming; it must have had some draw to last 14 odd years but today I witnessed real cold water being served without protest or insult; a sea change has occurred. In that spot you will now find the Midway Café at 18585 Coastal Highway, it is the same strip mall as 1776 Steakhouse however, this spot is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The slogan is "Best taste in Rehoboth". I'm questioning what segment of cuisine they might best be known for. In one local Facebook group someone mentioned they were a "Greek" place; everyone was excited at this for it is harder to find in the area. Reading the establishment's Facebook page, I note the first review used the term "Mediterranean items", a broader description. However as I peruse the menu, I'm struck with more a feel of "Jersey Diner" as a food format. They have a bit of everything. Even a few item from Preshy's are on the menu so folks who loved food from "back in the day" only have to ask for a side salad of abuse and they might feel right at home! I came in today early afternoon, past the lunch rush so A J the new owner was kind enough to sit with me as I had a Pastrami Reuben with French fries and Ice Tea. A J told me he does not make his own Pastrami but I sure like his supplier for it has a nice amount of smokiness that when not overpowering, hits you with a bit of authority. I should have gotten a side view photo to show the volume of the sandwich. It was not Rosenfeld's in overstuffed size but it was $3.75 less in cost and if I'm reading Rosenfeld's menu right, they don't provide you fries or slaw. The fries were standard matchstick done fine. A J encouraged me to try the slaw as he seemed very proud of it but I'm just not a fan so someone else will have to review it. A J told me his family has had at least 10 restaurants; he's has had 5. One was in Greenwood, one Dover and Lyme, CT. I forgot to ask where the others were. This is the only one he's operating today. He lives locally in Long Neck but we talked houses so I'm thinking he is shopping. During our conversation the man must have jumped up a few dozen times to attend to customers at the counter behind him, to meet new folks coming in or other needs elsewhere. This is a nice guy with good customer service skills and he is passionate about what he's got going on. We had a very nice experience at the Midway Cafe this morning. The waitstaff was friendly and efficient. My Florentine omlet with seasoned home fries was outstanding. Very inconsistent breakfast taste and quality. I ordered the same breakfast platter with 2 eggs over easy and home fries with a side of bacon. The first two times I had this platter for breakfast , it came out fresh, eggs done perfectly, bacon was crispy, and home fries were not drowned in grease. It was delicious. The last two occasions ordering the same meal, it was not great at all. I don't know if they got a new cook, but I couldn't even eat the bacon on my plate. It came to my table smelling foul and full of grease making it soggy. I was afraid to eat it because how it smelled. The home fries were the same way. I did manage to eat around the runny eggs. I wish I could return, but my experience the last two occasions were ruined by the food taste and quality. read more

I wanted to give it four stars but that may have to wait for a return visit. The place was really freshened up since turning over from Preshys. Very clean and bright with a good amount of offerings on the menu. The three of us had a great waitress and host. The food was really fresh and tasty compared to many local diners. There were a few issues with what we received as opposed to what we ordered. It wasn't a deal breaker as they were way busier than expected. All in all a positive experience and will definitely give them another try when they settle in. read more

This is a cheerful looking new place. Food was good with large sandwiches and big portions of tasty French fries. Parking is easy. The Gyro had no tzatziki sauce in it, even though the menu stated it does. We also ordered the lox bagel, asked for it on an everything bagel toasted, we received a plain bagel untoasted. Despite the errors, the food was good, and wait staff was excellent. read more
