Grilled turkey, fries and coleslaw. This picture looks tiny as there was quite a bit of food here and it was great.

The desk clerk at our hotel recommended Midway. We would not have found it otherwise and likely not visited were it not for his recommendation. Midway was very comfortable, clean, and pleasant. The food other diners had, especially breakfast items, looked terrific. We both had grilled turkey sandwiches and they were great. Amanda was super friendly and checked on us regularly and we had a light meal that lasted us throughout the day. When we revisit Rehoboth, we plan to go back and hope to see Amanda again. Thanks!

    Smothered Steak (Special)

On Friday evening, the Mrs. and I had dinner at the Midway Cafe. Our last visit was about four months ago. The place was not crowded and it seemed that it was mostly locals. After we sat, the waitress (very pleasant and friendly) took our orders. We ordered the specials -- Steak and Shrimp for the Mrs. and I had the Smothered Steak (Provolone, peppers, onions and mushrooms). Both of us had the mashed potatoes for the sides. Overall, the food was good but the homemade Chicken Noodle soup was OUTSTANDING! In fact, if we had known it was so good, we would have ordered a couple of bowls for dinner -- that is how good it was.

A week ago we drove by Midway Plaza and noticed the old restaurant that had been slowly fading away due to the numerous reports of erratic and eccentric abuse was out; nothing Preshy here anymore... Granted some found the experience charming; it must have had some draw to last 14 odd years but today I witnessed real cold water being served without protest or insult; a sea change has occurred. In that spot you will now find the Midway Café at 18585 Coastal Highway, it is the same strip mall as 1776 Steakhouse however, this spot is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The slogan is "Best taste in Rehoboth". I'm questioning what segment of cuisine they might best be known for. In one local Facebook group someone mentioned they were a "Greek" place; everyone was excited at this for it is harder to find in the area. Reading the establishment's Facebook page, I note the first review used the term "Mediterranean items", a broader description. However as I peruse the menu, I'm struck with more a feel of "Jersey Diner" as a food format. They have a bit of everything. Even a few item from Preshy's are on the menu so folks who loved food from "back in the day" only have to ask for a side salad of abuse and they might feel right at home! I came in today early afternoon, past the lunch rush so A J the new owner was kind enough to sit with me as I had a Pastrami Reuben with French fries and Ice Tea. A J told me he does not make his own Pastrami but I sure like his supplier for it has a nice amount of smokiness that when not overpowering, hits you with a bit of authority. I should have gotten a side view photo to show the volume of the sandwich. It was not Rosenfeld's in overstuffed size but it was $3.75 less in cost and if I'm reading Rosenfeld's menu right, they don't provide you fries or slaw. The fries were standard matchstick done fine. A J encouraged me to try the slaw as he seemed very proud of it but I'm just not a fan so someone else will have to review it. A J told me his family has had at least 10 restaurants; he's has had 5. One was in Greenwood, one Dover and Lyme, CT. I forgot to ask where the others were. This is the only one he's operating today. He lives locally in Long Neck but we talked houses so I'm thinking he is shopping. During our conversation the man must have jumped up a few dozen times to attend to customers at the counter behind him, to meet new folks coming in or other needs elsewhere. This is a nice guy with good customer service skills and he is passionate about what he's got going on. Glance over his Facebook page to see lots of other food porn and you can see the enthusiasm starting around May 18th as they opened.

Eggs and hash browns barely cooked, like the potatoes were almost raw. The sausage was way overcooked.

Nothing outstanding. Average burger, so so decor. Nice server but that doesn't make up for the blah lunch.

Service was quick and personable which is really not that common anymore. Pickle chips were super tasty with a good sauce. We aren't beer drinkers but the warm cocktail was also delicious and another blanket of comfort. We both had sandwiches and both barely finished half, the portions are worth 2 regular or 3 small meals! The chicken could have used more seasoning but it was plenty. The salmon burger was also huge and perfectly cooked. What everyone knows to be true is- you want to be fed well and have a great time trying new drinks, definitely check out Dogfish.

I had the Rhinestone Cowboy burger, which was seasoned well and medium rare, but it was dry, especially around the edges. The bbq sauce was delicious. The fries were ok but not crispy. The other one had Korean tacos, which were also just okay. We tried the Coconut Etiquette beer, which as very refreshing and not as fruity as expected, which is a good thing; very subtle coconut notes. Wouldn't go back.

When we got there, several people were waiting for tables but we were able to walk on by since we had the res. When we sat down we learned it was restaurant week! At first we thought it would be too much food - but the menu sounded too good so our arms were twisted haha. I got the lobster toast - this was my fave thing I ate at the Blue Hen. My bf got the carpaccio (also delish). For our main course I got the branzino. It was topped w fennel and carrot and it tasted so good w the fish. My bf got the fried chicken and he enjoyed it. We both loved our desserts. I got the strawberry - yum!! And he got the blueberry bread pudding. I had several tastes of his and I wasn't sure which dessert I liked more. Def need to come back!! I can't remember which drinks we had but I do remember that we liked them. I had only been to the Blue Hen for happy hour previously but now I know I need to be back soon!

After many a weekend spent and many a restaurant tried we welcomed new eats at The Blue Hen. This menu is intriguing- small, tight but inventive- we were so excited to eat here! Was wonderful in having a table ready when we arrived for at-will, no reserve seating at about 7pm. Quiet corner. Promptly greeted by our server. She was gracious, so nice, and helpful our whole dining time. We ordered readily, in Mom's overwhelming hunger, lolol. Ordered the Lobster Toast and the Yellow Tomato Gazpacho, as starters. Amazingly accommodating on our order of this gorgeous gazpacho. We were given 2 bowls to split this tomato beauty. A few spoons of smooth & sweet, acidic, flavorful, gripping. Could have ordered more! The Lobster Toast- Accompanied by a concoction of radish, sesame, bitter-sweet....stunning bites in this salad. Unfamiliar but pronounced in the combination. Well done. The lobster- Absent. Wished for an open faced variety. Or at least a dish that advocates for lobster. Charge more. Bigger brioche. Pronounce those beautiful lobster bites in presentation. The lobster as served, was not the star. Ok, a moment for cocktails though- Whoa. Killer kill. The Church Girl Martini. Blessed be in evil, haha This Girl was too tasty in being that strong. So good in flavor, unbeknownst combos. A definite Watch Yourself and watch out for!! Entrees.....well when ordering was told the Sea Bream was out- disappointed on that. The entree menu is small, so should keep available. And when we entered the restaurant it was busier after we sat....so why out of a primary fish already?? So decided ahead- Mom had the Burger and I had the Crab Cake Sandwich. The burger- smashed, but still big patties. A perfect medium. Good overall. The bacon jam was an ask on the side. The bacons were really spicy lardons and were delicious. My crab cake sandwich. Hmmm. You are a sandwich. For the pricing, it's not there. Ate the Lumps, but the rest of the sandwich should I say was in the Dumps? Nothing to be said of standout. Would recommend putting this crab cake as a stand alone entree with accompaniment. Forget the bun. Overall food gets a 3.75. Drinks, environment and service a 4. The Blue Hen is not Spent. But also is not the Top Chicken.
