It's in a little shopping center off 183 in Leander just south of Lowes. The food is really good, staff is nice, prices are decent, and beer selection is pretty good. First the beer selection ... they had a few offerings from Whitestone brewery which is nice. Normally sushi places only have Asian beer which is kinda frustrating. However this place has an expanded selection. The sushi itself is really good and comes out pretty fast. My wife had the Udon soup which was awesome. We will be back. read more

My husband and I just moved to the area and were excited to discover a local sushi place with decent reviews since we eat sushi regularly as our go to take out. I called to place an order and the person on the phone gave me a total that was $10 more than what the total should have been (after tax) according to the prices on the website. We were just ordering 4 rolls to try the place out. We didn't want to order what we'd usually order at a place that is new to us in case we didn't like it. They said that they increased the prices and when I asked them to honor the prices they had listed online, they declined. Not a good way to do business. I cancelled the order. Our family (myself, wife, and 2 High School students) have been trying a new place to eat every month. We went to Kai yesterday and were VERY pleased. The ambiance, staff, and food were all great! I'm very torn here. I stopped by this sushi spot for some Togo sushi since it's right next to my work and I wanted to give it a try. I was pretty hesitant to try sushi in Texas because of the fact there are no oceans close but whatever I still tried it. I ordered spicy tuna crispy rice ( I've never had sliced tuna on top of rice before that was a first ) it was very good....Next I had a basic spicy tuna roll and upon eating it it tasted a bit warm to me... I ended it with a house salad and that was pretty tasty. The girl working was soo nice and sweet. I'm sure I'll try this place again and hopefully next time it will be better but it definitely wasn't horrible just not the best sushi I've had. read more

Wow! What an amazing experience. Our server Helena was so nice and knowledgeable about the fish and where it came from. My wife, son, and I got a variety of rolls, some Uni, some Salmon Roe, and some fried stuff mushroom poppers. Our favorite roll was the "fire ants on a log" or the "I love you" roll. We just moved here from SoCal so we're a little picky when it comes to our sushi, but this place was truly amazing! I'm afraid we'll be back once a week haha! We have been here many times, the food is always ok, not great. The service has always been good. We don't know what happened last night. The restaurant was only half full, but the food service really sucked. The gyoza and spicy tuna roll came out quite quickly, but then it went totally downhill. Our entrees did not come out till half an hour later. Our server kept coming up to apologize that something came up in the kitchen. I really could not think of anything could be coming up in the kitchen when there were only 6 tables occupied. The egg in my bibimbap was totally over cooked and cold. We were so disappointed in the whole experience that we just packed our dinners to go. To demonstrate the "chaos" in the kitchen, they brought us an plate of gyoza and we had to tell them we were already served. I think from now on we will drive a little further to Umiya. Kai Sushi offers a vast menu of classic and modern taste of sushi and have great price points for the portions you get. The venue offers a dining experience that is quiet with no frills. It's nice to be able to have a conversation without the need to speak up. The place is small, but not too small, and atmosphere is minimal, but it shouldn't matter if your aim is to have good sushi. Their Happy Hour, especially on Monday and Tuesday (4pm - Close), is our jam and have found ourselves coming every week. We usually get the Mikey, Geisha, and Salmon rolls. We are happy to say that Kai Sushi is one of our first go-to restaurants since moving in and it makes us super happy! read more
