    Sushi for two -

We tried Kai Sushi for an early supper one late Saturday afternoon. It was very good. My dining partner ordered his usual Cali Roll and I did some sampling. We will definitely return !

We came out of Saturday early afternoon, and the restaurant has a few tables occupied. They make an effort to welcome everyone as they enter the restaurant, which is a nice touch. Service is very attentive. Now when it comes to the food, we enjoyed everything we ordered, especially the sashimi samplers from the appetizer/starter section of the menu. The sampler came with 11 pieces of fish some come with two while others come with individual pieces. Their fish are very fresh and sweet. Aside from the sashimi samplers we also got the rainbow roll, tuna roll from the gluten-free section, tempura udon noodle soup and chicken teriyaki Bento box from the kids menu. Fish and these rolls were fresh as well. They were also very generous with the tuna in the tuna roll. I'm glad they offer gluten-free option, including a choice of gluten-free soy sauce. Udon yo soup was yummy and flavorful, and the bowl comes with a nice variety of imitation crab and other fresh vegetables. Udon came with three pieces of nicely battered vegetable tempura We also tried their mochi ice cream which came with strawberry and chocolate flavors. Overall, a solid sushi restaurant, especially in this part of town. We will come back.

Enjoyed a quick lunch special at Kai today. It was good but nothing special - a solid 4 star experience. I ordered the 5 pieces of chef selected sushi + 1 Maki roll deal for $21. Slightly overpriced for the quality in my opinion. I selected the dragon roll, which was a tad too sweet for my taste. The nigiri had a good fish to rice ratio and flavorful fish. Attentive service and a clean, modern space.

    All gluten free. All delicious.

Update (a little over a year later): Still amazing. Still BYOB (extra points here). The food, the service, everything. This is in my top favorites of restaurants.

Kai sushi is always solid. The staff is super attentive, polite, and friendly. The food is fresh and the crispy rice appetizer is a great palette starter and the establishment is clean. Highly recommend for lunch/dinner that's both delicious and reasonably priced.

Ahh I really had high hopes for this place because it came highly recommended and we came for a bday party. It is really far from me too. I am giving it a generous 3 only because the staff and owner is really nice. And some of the sushi was pretty fresh and tasted good. The staff was very attentive and helpful and it's hard to rate them this way but I have to in hopes they know and maybe change in some way. First there is no parking and the wait for the sushi boat was long BUT that's not why I had to rate low. After eating and indulging our group left and one in our party got very sick. I thought she was having a heart attack but it turned out to be food poison. She was so sick. If it was an isolated incident we can chalk it up to indigestion or something but then another person in our party got sick too. We didn't find out until later. She was in the toilet all night and was still sick the next day. Out of our party of 7, 2 got so sick. So now I am so weary and most likely will not return. The place wasn't the cleanest. The table next to us had a baby who threw rice all over the floor lol but It's a small restaurant and it was busy that night. My miso soup tasted fine. The apps were ok, the squid balls were questionable. I ate it but idk if that's what made my friend sick. The salad was good. The tofu was good. I didn't eat the edamame. But the highlight was the boat it was beautiful. And every piece of sushi and sashimi I had was good. Pretty fresh but not the best sushi I've had and the rice is a bit too hard for my liking. The rice reminded me of HEB sushi rice which is sad. BUT the few pieces of sushi and sashimi fish I had wasn't bad. It was good. They grill the head of the fish after you've eaten. It was not bad. They even gave us a dessert for the bday girls. I only had a bite. However the experience of driving my friend home, worrying about her, thinking we were going to have an accident because I thought she was having a heart attack mars the whole dinner experience. And then finding out another friend had major tummy issues and couldn't eat the next day put the nail on the coffin. Will not be coming back sorry. But the boat made for a pretty pic! Hope you all have a better experience.

I went here a while ago with my friends and this place is SO GOOD. The ambiance of this place is super cool and it's so relaxing. The service was really good and the server was very nice and understanding. I can't eat certain meats so I asked her a few questions, she answered them very patiently and she was curious about my culture so she asked a few questions very politely. The prices for the food were reasonable. The food was great and we all enjoyed. We all got the chicken katsu, the the proportions were really good, the crunch on the chicken was crazy, and it came with so much food and side dishes to go with such as miso soup, dumplings, sushi, rice, and salad. The salad had such a fresh and new taste to it which I really really enjoyed.

The first time that I tried Kai Sushi was during the pandemic. My experience was alright but really not worth noting as I only picked it up. This time around I was able to sit and order at the restaurant. I brought my niece here as sushi was on her list of accepted meals after a long soccer tournament. We had a wonderful experience and wonderful service, so kind and authentic. Our food was delicious and we could not have left happier. I look forward to making more time to come and sit to enjoy the experience more often than not. This is also a great spot for a date night, very intimate and I'd say mostly quiet.

We wanted a nice Sushi place close to Cedar Park and found Kai Sushi with great reviews in Yelp! What a nice meal! We had the lunch special with nigiri and a roll, including a salad with the most delicious dressing and a Miso soup. Service was quick and very friendly, the place is super cozy, a touch romantic and rather quiet. The food was delicious, we tried the Vegas roll and the deep fried shrimp tempura with avocado one. I will definitely be back! Super!!!

You know when a place is soooo good you want to keep it for yourself?! That's how I feel about Kai Sushi, but alas, it's time to share with the world. This is the BEST sushi spot in Leander. The sushi is so delicately prepared, so authentic and soooo delicious. It is by far my favorite place to grab lunch. Great for date night as well as its bring your own alcohol. Their service is superb and so friendly. I simply love this place!

We went to this restaurant few days ago. Even on a weekday there were quite a number of families dining there. The food was good. We tried miso, spicy edamame and bunch of Sushi. We liked all of them. We will go back and I recommend.

We recently went Kai Sushi for my daughter's birthday. The sushi was great, and the service was absolutely fantastic! We really enjoyed our waitress. She did a lot to make my daughter's birthday special. The food was so good that my kids wanted to make sure I gave this place a five star review!

Your party of 3 can have 2 people finish their entire dinner before one of you ever gets anything. This happened to us last Friday at Momo. I sat for 40 minutes waiting patiently for a bento box while my husband and daughter had their entire meal. Someone who was not our server came over and said "it looks like you're missing some things" - yep, dude, you sure are perceptive. Our appetizer came out at around 30+ minutes - it was the veggie and shrimp tempura. And that was after the multiple sushi rolls came out and my family had already eaten them. The bento came out finally, with no offer to make it right. Our server only sheepishly said sorry. I should have known trouble was on the way when we walked in and we were sat right next to the counter with a view of the sushi "chef." I watched him bang a knife (he had just used to cut avocado with) on the inside of a dirty trash can and then proceeded to use it again. Nope. All the way nope. Good luck to you, Momo. I won't be back to even bother finding out if you've gotten your *ish together.

For roughly $60 the wife was full and we had roughly 6 dishes and one cocktail (I was still slightly hungry). Think of it as more of a tapas style ordering. Soft shelled crab - My absolute favorite and by far the best dish! Crispy from the breading, soft shell and subtle crab taste, and to top it off the fried egg adds some creaminess from the yolk. Not greasy at all due to the way it's fried. And who doesn't like a little microgreen to add some freshness to it?! It could likely use a little more salt, and this particular time the yolk was a overcooked. Sushi Tacos - 2nd favorite! You get two, and frankly I prefer not sharing these (although my wife forced me to). It's such a unique dish. Each taco is palm sized. They take a yummy piece of laver (seaweed), coat one side and deep fry it to make a nice hard shell taco casing. Then they fill it with sushi rice, top it with plentiful tuna, add a slice of avocado, and top it with micro greens. Refreshing, light (once you squeeze the tiny lime on top), slightly filling due to the rice, and absolutely delicious. Takoyaki - I'm not a fan, but the wife is. For me it's a texture thing. Even when visiting Japan I didn't enjoy this dish. Honestly though I do think it deserves far more bonito flakes, as the dish is meant to look alive from the waving flakes. Honestly we love this place so much, I always get engrossed in the food so much I forget to take pics. The overall ambience is chill and refined, albeit no white tableclothes, but it acts like it should have them. The menu seemed to have changed a bit from last year, but looked substantially the same. When we arrived at the restaurant, the hostess said that she didn't have the reso on her end; rather than apologizing or making a single effort to fix the issue, she just stared at us. We had to prompt her for clarification and next steps, and had to continue to prompt her through the process of getting us sat. When we finally sat down at a regular table, we waited about 15 minutes without a server coming by. I eventually flagged a server down, and we got our order under way. We requested the manager stop by to tell him about the issue with the reservation and the fact that his hostess needs additional training, and surprise, the manager was also not helpful. He did apologize for our reservation being lost, but blamed it on the system and denied any responsibility for taking care of it - basically just told us that "life is life". He did not offer a discount or any kind of relief for the setbacks or bad service. I wasn't expecting the world or anything, but good hospitality dictates that you do more that basically tell us to just deal with it. For the food: the sushi was pretty gnarly - it looked like somebody was angry at the fish when they were slicing. Most things needed salt. Steak and fried rice was good, but the vegetables were pretty much raw. I can forgive quite a bit when it comes to service, especially on graduation/mother's day weekend. But honestly I'm a little impressed at how little the entire staff cared about their guests.

It was well rendered, if a bit salty for my taste, and medium spicy as requested (plenty spicy enough for me). I've since tried Typhoon Shelter Crab -- a first for me, a feast for the eyes and palate -- and the popular cold dish they call Sliced Beef & Tripe in Chili Sauce (夫妻肺片 in Mandarin, also known in English as 'Husband & Wife Lung Slices' and 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith'). Shu Kitchen is very legit and more adventurous than your typical Chinese restaurants in the area (as you can easily tell by the number of Asian customers coming to their door). Although you can order standard dishes like stir-fries, fried rice combos, sesame, orange and General Tso's chicken, broccoli beef and stir-fried green beans, you can also get the likes of Shuwei Xuan Sichuan Spicy Blood Curd Stew (蜀味轩毛血旺), Boiled Bullfrog in Chili Sauce, Boiled Pork Intestines, Boiled Black Fish Filet in Chili Sauce, and one of my favorites, Hot and Sour Chicken Gizzard (sliced). The prices for some of the more esoteric/authentic dishes can run north of $35 and up to around $40, but this is not your typical Chinese fast food joint; the chef is experienced and the ingredients are carefully sourced. Housekeeping note: At this writing there is another Shu Kitchen listing at the same address, but this appears to have been changed from Sushi Express & Poke Bowl, which was at the same location but closed a while back.
