This cafe is right along the strip of schools on 2nd Ave. The laid back arty vibe is in contrast to Nemesis nearby. Service was good. The drip coffee and croissants are alright (I think a tad cheaper than Nemesis). The space has some outletd at certain spots (was expecting more outlets), wifi is available. Street parking is available on non-rush hours, otherwise, there are a few paid parking spots right in front for the cafe. There are also parking lots nearby. Overall, it's ok.

A spacious and gorgeous study cafe near Emily Carr with a nice vibe, tons of natural light, and fantastic food and beverage options! After visiting for Hot Chocolate Fest this year, Kafka's easily became my new favorite cafe to study at, read, or even just catch up with a friend! Both drink and snack pairing were delicious! The hot chocolates were super creamy and had the perfect balance of sweetness, while the cookie and brownie had the perfect bite and added onto the flavors of the drinks very well! I'd definitely come back and would highly recommend this cafe to anyone!

Actually went to check out nemesis on gnw but was put off by slow moving and long line up there. Kafka feels like a place that is frequented mostly by the students at Emily Carr, with a lot of indoor seating. Less polished and tidy then other cafes we've recently been in. Limited selection of baked goods, some of which seem day old. Cream and sugar is added for you behind the counter. Coffee and vegan muffin was reasonably good though. Wait staff was friendly and courteous.

CPP Sandwich, Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie, Latte

Really nice coffee shop! Before visiting I thought it might just be a cafe of one the Emily Carr buildings, but despite being located by the university, it's a self-contained business. The space is artsy in a way that doesn't feel contrived and the music choices set the perfect mood. There's a good amount of seating on the two floors and the small patio. The patio is not covered, although at first glance it looks like it might be, so it's not usable when it's wet out. The barista who took my order and prepared my drink was really nice. I ordered a CPP Sandwich, a Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie, and a Latte. Everything was fantastic. The latte (almond milk, decaf) was perfect, with a velvety mouthfeel, perfect amount of foam, and flavour that was just right in every aspect: moderately sweet, a little bitter, and just a tiny hint of acidity. I loved the combination of ingredients on the CPP (Cambozola cheese, roasted red pepper, arugula, pear confit, walnuts, and lemon aioli). I wasn't familiar with Cambozola before this - I'd describe it as a cross between brie and gorgonzola (but slightly closer to brie). I'm into both of these cheeses, so I really liked this and it was interesting to try something a little different. Normally I prefer this kind of sandwich warmed up, but this was served at room temp and I actually liked it this way since it let the freshness of the ingredients shine through and highlighted the texture of the cheese. Two complaints with this (neither regarding the sandwich itself): I don't understand why they serve the "for-here" sandwiches wrapped up parchment paper and sealed with a sticker instead of on a ceramic plate, since they serve the baked goods on a plate and the coffee in mugs. I think their sandwiches are actually supplied/made by Little Bird Company, but since they do seem to be assembling them to order in the kitchen, they should be able to use the cafe's tableware. The sandwich was on the smaller side, and while the portion size was actually just right for me, at $13 it was way too expensive. I'm not usually excited by chocolate chip cookies, but this one looked particularly good and my decision to take a chance on it paid off. The chocolate chips were very soft and the whole cookie had a slightly caramelized flavour, with a gooey middle and crisp edges. I was fine eating the whole thing alone, this would also be a good size to split with someone. Besides the sandwich, I thought the prices were reasonable. I would definitely come back here for the great food and vibe.

Ground floor seating area with art pieces for sale/display. Very clean and staff sanitized area as I sat gobbling down my food!

Stopped by this wonderfully hidden cafe bakery as tge Tim Horton's down the block was packed. A little hidden next to the Centre for Digital Media but the space inside and out is gorgeous! Prior to entering in there's a little patio to the right and a covid19 safety sign asking patrons to wear a mask before entering. It was around 9:15am when I popped in and boy was there a line! Service was quick and staff friendly. Ordered my self an Americano and a savoury red pepper feta cheese Puff Tart! Delicious! The coffee was hot and puff pastry is a must try! The area is beautifully decored with paintings and a large black/white mural. There's also a 2nd floor, but blocked off due to Covid19 protocols. The space is large, welcoming and combine that with calming upbeat music and friendly speedy staff this spot is sure to please!

Monday aft at noon, beat the rush for some studying. Nice loft set up w a second floor for group table seating and single bar row. It's across fr my building, gave it a go. Pros: - food options like bfast, bowls, baked goods (avo toast $5, add egg $2) - plenty of seating, v clean, big windows, and well lit - friendly staff - pay parking lot outside, free on the street if you go up or down half a block Notes: - paying more for ethically sourced coffee - telus and kafka Wi-Fi

Great location opened up on Great Northern Way, the space has loft seating and a nice place for the students to study! Went by to pick my daughter up from Emily Carr and stopped by here, to my surprise they served a lunch bowl that was delicious! A vegetarian "glory bowl" kale quinoa and a tasty hummus with tomatoes avocados and pickled cabbage! It was delightful I couldn't stop eating! I'll definitely be coming back and who knows, I might even bring her something next time!

The interior is well laid out with stool window seats, small tables along the walls, and a gorgeous wooden table at the end. The walls are professionally decorated with framed shots by local photographers. On to the star of the show...the coffee. I started with shot of potent espresso topped with oat milk. What a heavenly combo that was! I took the time to slowly savour each sip. They're not just about coffee, despite the name. The Jasmine loose leaf tea is very fragrant and provides a very nice alternative to those who prefer tea. Feeling a bit hungry, I added an almond croissant produced by a local bakery nearby. I love how this indie is supporting his own local businesses. Better yet, the croissant was sooooo nice right to the last bite....and of course, I scraped up all the crumbs and enjoyed that just as much. Lastly, the owner who took over the shop this summer is a gentleman. He knows his coffee!! I hope everyone in the area will keep supporting the Indies.

They hardly had any customers there either so that's not an excuse. I appeared it was being too cheap and bad judgement, and it cost them further business from me since. Penny wise and pound foolish. Akso the shared bathroom in the building here is gross. The rest of the review is similar to another expensive coffee shop in the city that shares a poor business practice with this place. Totally unacceptable and irresponsible to me when a business has no listed phone number to contact them for any important reasons during business hours. Ther are not following traditional good service tradition in this country and continent, and being available during business hours is important. What if there was an emergency or if it could save a customer an unnecessary trip, or what if it brought more business there instead of going elsewhere? Not everyone wants to communicate asynchronous by Instagram messages only. How about some human connection and service if you open uo a public facing business? Big problem for me.i found another place with more reasonable priced great coffee and they have a phone too, so my business goes there.
