Ordered take out on the way to Day of the Dog event on Main Street Smoked salmon on a bagel with side salad was delicious! The dressing on the salad was tasty and sweet. Everything was delicious! Husband ordered the burrito Kurito. Loved the spicy kick to it! Service was excellent and pickup was quick! Would definitely return!

We had an amazing breakfast of The Kings brioche quiche and Poached eggs. The owner was super friendly and the food was fresh organic and very, very tasty.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Loved this gem of a casual sidewalk cafe with reasonable prices.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I liked the planter boxes so much that I am going to replicate this look chez moi![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Opted for the poached eggs ($17) that came with two eggs, cheese on bread, tomato, avocado, red onion, pesto sauce, and salad topping. The owner adds a personal touch and provided great service. I dig their brewed coffee too, you can tell it is quality!

Nice neighborhood cafe spot in Santa Monica and a short walk from the beach. Great meeting place for coffee or food with indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered the Open Sandwich, which is fresh mozzerella, tomato, avocado and pesto on a baguette. Overall the sandwich was delicious and fresh. If only they had a cafe like this in DTLA.

    Margherita pizza, pretty good.

Small café with a nice variety on the menu. The food was good and the service was great. The margherita pizza (7/10) was more like a regular cheese pizza; it didn't have the fresh mozzarella, just regular cheese on top. With that said, it was still a tasty pizza. The crust was SUPER thin, like a tortilla, but still managed to be nice and crispy. I highly recommend the fresh lemonade. 9/10 I used my Yelp check-in to get the lemonade instead of the beer/wine which they were offering, and they were happy to accommodate.

We got off an early morning flight to LA and needed to find a spot to do work for a few hours. Kafe K is the perfect place to chill or knock out a few emails. They have a great coffee and drink selection so I was able to get all my beverages in. I had the omelette with bacon, feta and tomato and it was just the perfect breakfast. Props to the nice outdoor seating and even nicer staff.

Wow, I'm so glad I discovered Kafe K! There are tons of gluten free options, but beware gf bread is in a shared toaster so if you're celiac like me, it's not recommended. The owner was so nice & accommodating and said he could still do something with bread for me but not toast it; it just wouldn't taste as good because it wouldn't be warm. I decided to go with an omelette, and I asked if he could sub the bread for fruit and he said no problem! I looked to the right and saw GLUTEN FREE MADELEINES. I've been gluten free for 11 years now and have never seen or had one...I almost teared up! It was very yummy and the omelette was yummy too. I sat on the patio which is so cute and I loved people watching on a nice sunny day. Great experience and I'll definitely be coming back!

    Chocolate cheesecake is divine!

Oh, Kafe K! There are not enough stars in the world for you! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The beautiful friendly owners, the fantastic food, the welcoming atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] What else could you want?! Check out Kafé K for the best Santa Monica coffee, food, and vibes!

The food at Kafe K is so yummy! I couldn't decide what I wanted for brunch so I ordered both the Margherita pizza and the poached eggs with a mimosa :) My husband ordered Capricciosa pizza and the Blackberry Power smoothie and enjoyed them both as well. The couple that runs this place is very sweet as well. Thanks for the complimentary Kombuchas!! The next time we are in Santa Monica for brunch, we'll come by!

I'm an Americana fan, so I was excited to learn that Route 66 turns 100 this year. That's when I…read morediscovered that the historic western end of Route 66 is right here in my neck of the woods--Mel's Diner in Santa Monica. I finally visited earlier this week with one of my nieces, who was in town from Kauai. For a Monday evening, I was pleasantly surprised to see the restaurant had a healthy crowd. AMBIANCE This isn't a cozy, homey diner. The concrete floors and walls give it more of an industrial feel. That said, each table has its own jukebox, which instantly gives the place that classic American diner atmosphere. SERVICE Our server reminded me of the old-school diner waitresses from movies set in the 1950s and 1960s--efficient, brisk, and focused on getting the job done. I was curious whether that image reflected reality or was simply a Hollywood stereotype, so I looked it up afterward. It turns out that traditional diner service really was known for being fast, efficient, and no-nonsense: seating customers quickly, taking orders, serving hot food promptly, keeping coffee cups full, collecting payment, and moving on to the next table. Our server was certainly speedy, but he was also more accommodating than those classic diner stereotypes. He pointed out to my niece that ordering fries with her sandwich might be too much since we were already ordered a type of fries as an appetizer. He also patiently answered my questions about the Slow-Braised Short Rib Dinner, which I had my eye on. At the end of our meal, my niece mentioned something about her own experience as a restaurant server. By then, though, he was clearly ready to move on to his next table. Fair enough-- it made the experience feel even more like an old-school diner. Haha! DRINKS One pleasant surprise: they serve Spiked Milkshakes. My niece was thrilled! As for me, I ordered a glass of Chardonnay, and -- it easily held its own against glasses I've paid considerably more at upscale restaurants. APPETIZER Bacon Ranch Cheese Fries -- Need I say more? MAIN COURSES Reuben Sandwich (with colesalw instead of fries, thanks to our server's suggestion). My niece loved it. Slow-Braised Short Rib Dinner -- Absolutely delicious! The meat was incredibly tender. I ordered the demi glace (sauce) on the side because I wasn't familiar with it. I asked our server whether it was sweet, and he said kind of. So I decided to try it separately and requested it on the side. It turned out to be rich, savory, and the perfect complement to the short rib. I'm glad I ordered it that way. I highly recommend the Slow-Braised Short Rib Dinner. DESSERT We skipped dessert because my nieces' spiked milkshake was practically dessert on its own. PARKING The restaurant has its own parking lot immediately next door. I got lucky and found an open space as soon as I drove in--just a few steps from the entrance. It reminded me of those movie scenes where the main character somehow always finds the perfect parking spot right in front of where they're going. BOTTOM LINE Overall, we had a very enjoyable dinner. If you're looking for a classic American diner experience -- especially if you're a Route 66 enthusiast -- Mel's Diner is definitely worth a visit.

I ordered an omelette sandwich while my gf went with the ham steak breakfast, and we shared a peanut butter milkshake that was surprisingly good. It's the kind of place that immediately makes you think you're in for a great meal. I stopped in while visiting my wife during her lunch break at the hospital. I originally planned to bring her food, so I happened to have a Kool-Aid cup in my hand when I walked in. After I'd already placed my order, I was told they don't allow outside food or drinks. I understand restaurants have policies, but this felt like one of those moments where a little common sense and hospitality would have gone a long way. I wasn't bringing in another restaurant's meal--I was already buying food from you. As for the food itself, we ordered the $10 double smash burger. It was fine, but it was tiny and ultimately forgettable. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but there also wasn't anything that made it stand out. The biggest disappointment was the $7 "truffle fries." After the first bite, I looked at my wife and said, "Whatever you're thinking, I just had the exact same thought." They simply weren't good. For $7, I expected something memorable, but honestly, McDonald's fries are more enjoyable for less than half the price. I genuinely want this place to succeed because the location and atmosphere are fantastic. Right now, though, it feels like the aesthetics are carrying the experience. Improve the fries, make the burger feel like a better value, and be a little more flexible with customer interactions. The foundation is there--it just needs the food and hospitality to match the beautiful space.
